How can I get Dental Insurance outside of my work?

I have a small chip in one of my teeth that needs to be filled, but I do not have dental insurance. Is there anyway that I can sign up for just dental insurance, get my tooth fixed and then cancel the policy.
--------------------
Hey, I know a dental plan that is on;y14.96 a month for a single person. You dont have to stay on the plan for any amount of time, It does reqoire a 20 dollar aplication fee and the 14.95 to get started so I domt know It may not cost much money to get your tooth fixed,Check out the web site under dentist and find a provider in your area, and then the fee schedule to see the savings you would get, You can enroll your self omline or call the represenative. Best of luck Amber

Why is good dental insurance so hard to find?

Dental care is SO expensive, the insurance is terrible, does not cover anything. Why is this? Why cant it be included in health insurance?
--------------------
You have three options with dental. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. $50 deductible, annual maximum of $750 - $1500, waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$10 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan.

How do you go to the dentist without dental insurance?

I currently have no insurance. I will receive health insurance after the first of the year, but it does not include dental. I am trying to figure out how to go to the dentist without dental insurance.
--------------------
Call and ask the nearest dental office if payments in instalments are accepted, than go and pay by cash, or cheque; if necessary pay the whole amount by a credit card. Also, the dental schools allow their students to practise under supervision and the patients get the low cost treatments. Good luck.

When buying your own dental insurance what should I be aware of?

I am a student and a veteran. I need my wisdom teeth out and the VA does not cover dental after the initial post service exam. Looking at dental insurance online and would appreciate any intel. Thanks.
--------------------
Most dental insurance will take around 6 months to even be active after a series of monthly payments. If its just your wisdom teeth, then I would encourage you to visit this great site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago and they have saved me thousands of dollars on all services. From my braces and wisdom teeth extractions. I was quoted $2200, but ended up only paying $1000. They even had my extremely affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day since mine was an emergency. Hope this helps.

What is the best discount dental insurance available?

I recently found out I have to get a root canal and I don't have any dental insurance - I need help!
--------------------
Dental discount plans are not usually worth the cost. Finding a dentist who will accept a fraction of regular fees if they are able to fill appointments will full-fee patients might be difficult. In fact, many people have found that NO dentists in their area (at least, not dentists they would WANT to visit) accept the discount plan. The State of Montana sued one of the main plans, Ameriplan, for insurance fraud and won. Please investigate carefully before giving personal information to internet-based plans. Ask your dentist about financing plans through such companies as Care Credit or Dental Fee Plan. You'd be much safer!

Can anyone inform me about dental insurance plans in Texas?

Me and my family are planning to move to Texas by next month. We plan to purchase dental insurance plans especially for my dad who's thinking about having an orthognathic surgery. Please help me guys! Thanks!
--------------------
The best dental insurance is one that achieves a perfect balance between price and policy inclusions, and does not leave you feeling helpless when the time comes for you to make good use of it. Here is a summary of the basic dental insurance coverage in Texas: 1. Preventive and diagnostic dental care. Preventive dental care necessarily includes all regular cleaning and check-up services that a dentist performs to avert further destruction or decay of the teeth. The most basic services are included here, including evaluation and diagnosis of any prevailing dental problem. 2. Basic dental care and dental procedures. Although this coverage is somewhat subjective to what your dentist considers "basic" services, dental care and procedure may or may not include tooth filling, tooth extractions, root canals and repairing broken teeth. As long as your dentist considers it a simple and minor procedure, you can expect it to fall under this category. 3. Major dental care. Major denture work, dental orthodontics, surgery and other large-scale procedures are the most expensive – if you opt for a higher percentage under this category, expect your premium to increase. Some aging people prefer for a higher coverage on the major dental care because sooner or later, they are going to need a set of dentures and other more complicated dental repair and enhancement procedure.

I need some pretty expensive dental work, and have no dental insurance.

Where can I get the best individual dental insurance?

I need to purchase my own dental insurance. Who offers the best bang for the buck?
--------------------
Honestly, I haven't EVER seen an individual dental policy that pays out more than you pay in. Between waiting periods, copays, and coverage limits, you're just as well off working out a payment plan with your dentist.

What health and dental insurance companies does Waste Management use?

Just got hired on as a residential driver with Waste Management and start soon. What I need to know is: what insurance companies does Waste Management use for their health and dental plans? Are they very good plans, or not? I haven't gotten a straight answer anywhere else on the net, so this seems to be a forum of knowledgable individuals.
--------------------
It undoubtedly varies by state. Waste Management operates nationally. If you're going to be a union driver, those benefits may be provided through the union rather than directly by the company.

What is a good website for finding dental insurance?

I am trying to buy dental insurance online, but I am not sure where to begin. There are a ton of sites out there that let you compare plans and so on, but I don't know which ones are legit. I prefer websites with forums and such, where actual people make comments and reviews. Also, it seems like the only plans I have been able to find are discount plans. What countries have national dental insurance?

What countries have national dental insurance? I currently live in Canada, we have free health insurance, but not dental. :( I am a 21 year old finishing college and going to university next year, after that I'd live to establish myself in a country with benefits of free health, dental, and vision care. Does anyone recommend any countries?
--------------------
The UK, however, if you live in England and are over 16 and working you have to pay for dental treatment, prescriptions and any services or products from an opticians, so healthcare is not completely free. If you live in Scotland it is free and University is free there as well (but not for international students). What you also have to bare in mind is the reason why healthcare is free, the UK has very high tax and VAT, you should take that into account before you move anywhere.

What's the difference between health/dental insurance and a health/dental plan?

I don't get insurance through work but I saw something online for health and dental plans. They seem a lot cheaper than getting insurance on my own. Has anyone tried this? Is there a catch I'm not seeing? Thanks!
--------------------
With a dental plan the company sponsoring the plan doesn't pay out anything. With dental insurance the insurance company pays the dentist. You have five options with dental. 1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning, exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance. 2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den… 3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With insurance you pay $460 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With discount plans you pay around $827. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

COntact your dentist. Depending on your insurance, and his practice, you might be billed, or need to pay up front. Cant really tell you more without knowing more about the specific coverage. Just call teh dentist office, they will tell you everything you need to know. Then, call the insurance provider, to confirm the dentist's info.

Looking for individual dental insurance in NY without a 12-month waiting period - is there such a thing?

I'm shopping around for dental insurance and most plans I see have a 12 month waiting period for major procedures - and I'm going to need to get my wisdom teeth out soon. Can anybody recommend me a plan? Thanks!

All individual dental insurance will have waiting periods of 12 to 36 months before you get the full benefits for major proceedures. What do you pay for family dental insurance?

My husband's company wants to charge us $21/week for dental insurance. I would assume they are charging us 100% of the premium. It only covers $1000 per year. How can a dental insurance company charge over the amount that they cover. $21 per week would cost $1092 per year. I'm just really pissed off right now. I thought it was a mistake at first, but turns out it's not.
--------------------
That's $1,000 PER PERSON. Plus you get the network discounts for the dentists in the plan on top of that. $80/month is pretty cheap...$110-$130 is what a plan would usually run (depending on your state/zip code). They're likely contributing either not at all or very little. If it's 100/80/50 (preventative/basic/major) then that's normal as well.

How long after I get dental insurance can I get at tooth pulled and be covered?

I don't have insurance now. If I get dental insurance ... how long after that can I go in and get my wisdom tooth pulled? Can I do it immediately or do I have to wait?
--------------------
each plan is different, some plans have a 6 month or 12 month waiting period for anything more than preventative procedures (cleanings, exams, xrays...). there are a few plans that provide immediate benefits. one for example is the Delta Dental HMO. you have to pay the entire year up front (total is about $101). then you will be covered immediately without having to wait. that plan is called the CAA54. in CAA54 you can view the details and prices for all services. i recommend you download the plan and look up wisdom teeth or teeth pulling. it will tell you exactly how much that service will cost. without insurance it might cost $2000. with CAA54 it might cost $800-1200. you are basically getting the plan so you can get the discounted price on your procedure. why do other plans have waiting periods? to prevent adverse selection. they don't want you to sign up for $20/mn, wait 2 weeks and go have $2000 of work done, then 2 weeks later cancel your $20/mn plan. they have it figured it out and realize that people try to do that. if they allowed it, they would be out of business in no time at all. download details of CAA54 by Delta Dental at http://usdirecthealthinsurance.com/apps/… application for CAA54 can be found at http://usdirecthealthinsurance.com/apps/… btw: CAA54 is a California only plan. pick your local dentist from this link (CA only), copy the whole link and paste into your browser. you need the dentist office ID number to put on the application above. https://www.deltadentalins.com/PD/provid…

I am 26 years old, and I want to wear braces. I try to enroll a dental insurance to save money but failed to find one that covers orthodontics for adults of my age. Can anyone give me any recommendation for the dental insurance? Many many thanks.

Finding a dental insurance plan that cover orthodontics is almost impossible. Even if you do there will be a waiting period of 12 to 24 months before you could get orthodontics covered. Also, most dental plans will only pay out $750 to $1500 per year so you'd still be paying a lot for the braces. You do have other options, though. 1. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den… 2. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. What are some tips for first time dental insurance buyers to avoid rip offs and scams?

never having bought dental insurance before can be scary, anyone have any tips to avoid misunderstandings, and high costs, and things like this ? Corporations clearly can trick people to get into their pocket books big time, so what are some things to look out for and avoid when you have never bought dental insurance before? (In California if it matters)
--------------------
Normally, dental insurance is NOT a good buy. Dental insurance typically only covers 50% of the work, has a very low yearly limit ($1000-$2000), and each procedure has a deductible attached (usually about $50). For the price it doesn't cover itself. I'm a self-employed so there is no "company benefits" and my dad is an insurance salesperson. There is NO WAY I can go a day without medical insurance. He WILL NOT sale me dental insurance because it just isn't worth the money. Also, my dentist discounts everything now that I don't have dental insurance. I didn't ask for this; he just started doing it.
