Can you buy a dental insurance plan on its own?

I am presently on a COBRA plan with my health insurance, which is still ongoing, but my COBRA dental insurance runs out at the end of this month. The company (Blue Cross Blue Shiled) told me that they don't offer dental in itself. I'm presently a student and don't have options through a company. Is it possible to get dental insurance on its own from a provider? I imagine that this is the case, but I was hoping that people could lead me in the right direction!
--------------------
if you are going to get insurance for yourself (only) you could put the money you would spend on premiums in a savings account and call it dental insurance about 80.00 a month (40.00 on the 1st and 40.00 on the 15th) that is about what you pay to have insurance (unless your job pays for some ) do this for one year ( usually waiting period anyway) then go to the dentist next year and you will have your own insurance and spend it how you want to in the dentist office. and if you don't need work done you can keep building it up for the next year!

Can I get dental insurance without going through my job?

I am looking for dental insurance which will pay 90% of dental work done.
--------------------
You could research a discount dental plan. The discount amount varies by location, procedure and the plan that you go with. I have located a website that you could use to compare discount dental plans, as I only have personal experience with Ameriplan. I will list both below as sources for you. I would definitely compare their monthly premiums, number of local providers and the savings on whatever procedures that you need.

Does your dental insurance help cover orthodontic treatments?

If your dental insurance helps cover orthodontic treatments, whether it's only a little bit or in full, please tell me what insurance you have. I CANNOT find anywhere dental insurance that covers orthodontic, or any orthodontic insurance. Its driving me nuts. Only relevant answers please. And i'm not talking about dental discounts for it, i'm talking about actual insurance. Thank you
--------------------
Only 50%. I'm with Aetna. They cover 100% preventative (cleanings, etc), 80% of minor dental work (fillings, extractions), and 50% of orthodontics. It blows but its better than nothing. The only time I had insurance that covered everything was in the military.

I have no insurance, about how much will these dental procedures cost me?

I have no dental insurance, but I can't wait any longer, I need to get many cavities fixed, and I need help with my gum disease. I was managing it from home pretty well for a while but I still need help. Since I have no insurance, how much will it cost me to get my many cavities fixed and get help with my gum disease?
--------------------
Many cavities, $500 - $600, and the gum disease prevention and advice are included; but you can not reverse or fix the damage done to the gums, and there may be some root damage as well. Certainly there will be plaque or a coating below the gumline associated with gingevitis.

Can my boyfriend put me on his dental insurance?

I need dental insurance. Is there a way I could be put on my boyfriend's dental insurance?
--------------------
Only if your boyfriend's insurance has an option for 'significant other' coverage. Assuming he has employer provided insurance, he can ask his HR department about that possibility.

What can be done if you can't afford $14,000 of dental work after insurance?

My husband just went to the dentist this morning and was told he needed so much work done that he would have to pay $14,000 after the $1,000 our dental insurance covers. They offer a credit card option, but he was denied. I do not believe we are eligible for Medicaid, but there is no way we are able to afford $14,000. He is in pain everyday, we cannot just let this go. Please help!! Thank you.

which one is the best one for dental coverage, buying a dental plan or dental insurance? Thanx for the input?

I'm a 58 year old single man needing some work done on my teeth, and I was wondering, which would deliver more bang (drilling) for my buck, a dental plan or dental insurance? Thanks a head of time for your responses!
--------------------
Let's compare dental insurance vs discount dental plan. With dental insurance you pay a monthly premium for which you receive dental work. The plan provider reimburses your dentist for part of the work, usually 50% to 80%, then you're responsible for paying the rest. Insurance plans usually have a set deductible and limits on the amount of services you can receive within a given year. There are also waiting periods of 3 to 12 months before you can receive dental treatment, and preexisting conditions are not covered. Premiums for one person average out to $200 to $500 per year, and you can choose your own dentist. With discount dental plans you have the option of paying monthly, quarterly, or annualyl for premiums. You can receive 10% to 80% discounts on all your dental work. There are no waiting periods before you can see a dentist or dental specialist, and preexisting conditions are covered. You can see a dentist within one to three days after joining a plan and get all the dental work you need. You can also change dentists if you prefer at any time. Discount dental plans have no limits on the amount of work you can have done, and there are no deductibles. There are no form-filling and paperwork hassles like there are with dental insurance, and discount dental plans cover cosmetic dentistry which dental insurance doesn't. With these plans you can choose from over thirty nationwide networks, and more than 100,000 dentists and dental specialists. Premiums for one person are less a year than dental insurance. Last year I needed two fillings, two root canals, and a number of crowns replaced. When I checked out dental insurance plans I found that none of the work I needed was covered. In addition, I would have to wait for six months before I could get any other work done, and the yearly premium was $420. I then took a look a discount dental plans. What a difference! All of the work I needed was covered, I was able to see a dentist the same week I signed up for the plan, and my initial exam was free. Not only did I save more than $2,500, but I found a dentist who was virtually painless, and who took the time to explain every procedure. If you need work now or in the future and want to save a lot of money on your dental work, discount dental plans are the way to go. Click on the source below to get an idea of the discount plan that I use. You can keep it as long as you want without committing to any contract.

At what age should you get dental insurance on children?

What is the recommended age in which I should get dental insurance on a child?
--------------------
I'm a dental hygienist. I very rarely see anyone ages 2 and under. I have, however, seen several 3 year olds and older. I'd say 3 is a good age to start. Most dental insurance plans will cover 2 exams and 2 cleanings per year. They will also cover 2 fluoride treatments a year, which will help prevent cavities from forming. Many insurance programs also cover sealants (to protect the teeth from forming cavities). I hope that helps!

My girlfriend needs her wisdom teeth out and doesn't have dental insurance. Whats the best option?

My girlfriend needs her wisdom teeth out. The thing is, she only has health insurance and her employer doesn't offer dental. How much would removing 4 wisdom teeth normally cost? (local anesthesia) Also are there any dental plans that would help her with this and give her basic coverage without gobbling her paycheck? She lives in MD so it would have to be available there.
--------------------
I had mine taken out on Wednesday. (It hurts like hell btw) For removing all 4 of my wisdom teeth it was around $900 (I think), don't have insurance, plus whatever the Vicadin costs. That is w/o insurance.

When to add baby to dental insurance?

I just gave birth to my first little one on April 4 and I have to notify my insurance company to add her to my health insurance. My question is, should I worry about adding her to dental insurance right now?? I can change my benefits again in late December (she'll be about 8 or 9 months)-can I just wait to add her until then you think? Thanks!
--------------------
Wait. Most dental offices won't even see a baby until they're at least 12 months old. Since you have open enrollment long before your baby will be 12 months, so point in spending money on the premiums now!

Should I get a second dental insurance plan?

I am a college student, and currently covered under my parents' dental plan. I need to get all of my wisdom teeth extracted, and I found out that I possibly also need 3 root canals. My insurance only covers $1500 per year. I don't want to put off this work, but I don't think I can afford this. Would getting my own individual dental insurance plan help? What plans are good, and what is a decent price/yr for an individual plan?
--------------------
You said you don't want to put off the dental work. Most individual plans will either have a waiting period of 12 months before you can get full benefits and then only pay at 50%, or will cover a smaller percentage until you've had the plan for 24 months (for example 10% the first year, 20% the second, and 40% the third). Premiums will run $30 - $50 depending upon your location. You may want to check out dental schools where you can get good service at a reasonable cost. You can find the nearest school here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den… You can also try Care Credit. You'll borrow the money but can pay it back interest free if you pay within the timeframe.

Is there a government program that helps college students with health/dental insurance?

I'm a college student in a Cal State University. I receive financial aid (grants) and I would like to know if there are government programs that will help me or give discount for health/dental insurance? Thanks
--------------------
The only program at the state level is Medi-cal and unless you have children under the age of 18 and have a 30 day disability, you will not qualify. Check at the student health center for options on getting low cost insurance that will at least cover the big stuff. They should also offer care there or can refer you to low cost clinics. County clinics and hospitals also offer care at a reduced sliding fee scale based on your ability to pay.

Are There Any Affordable Dental Insurance Policys on the Market?

I am wanting some work done on my teeth but do not have dental insurance, where can I find affordable dental insurance?
--------------------
Well, "affordable" dental coverage, isn't going to save you money. Private dental coverage is extremely limited in what it covers, and if you add up all your premiums, and calculate what you're having done and how much is covered, you usually end up paying slightly more than if you paid everything out of pocket.
