Question about dental insurance?

My grandmother has blue cross I think, pretty sure. Well she has that for dentail isurance. Is she able to put me on hers also? Is there a waiting period for me? She has had it for a year now. Also I currently have braces paying by cash, is it possible for that insurance she puts me under her name pay for that or cover for anything in the future without a waiting period? Thanks^^!
--------------------
My b/f has something like the blue cross, he wanted me to have it to so he put me on his plan. I think you can so the same, you would just have to get her to phone in because it is her blue cross account. i had to Wait to get a card, then I could use it, it might take up to 3 or 4 weeks for you to get the card. Maybe when you get her to phone in you can get her to ask them for a number you can use before you get your car.Just phone and see what you can do. I hope this helps

Can anyone help me find free or very affordable dental services in Orange County?

I am a 23 year old student who cannot afford dental insurance. I have a bad tooth ache and am just afraid to go see just any dentist and pay out the ears. I live in Fullerton, CA and I cannot afford much. If anyone knows a way to find a dental clinic or dental school in the area that would help me out greatly.
--------------------
It sounds to me like you've need a dental clinic. The best way to find one is to look at your local phone book or you might try calling the emergency room of a local hospital and ask if they know of a local dental clinic they can refer you to. However, the problem with dental clinics is that you could end up waiting a week or more to be seen. If you can not wait that long, you'll have to put out a few dollars and join a discount dental plan that will allow you to go to the doctor ASAP as well as saving you a few bucks.

Company Medical and Dental benefits, when does it start?

I have a job but my medical and dental insurance benefits start 6 months after employment. On average, when does it usually start? Do I always need to complete my 6 month probation or do some companies give it to me right off the bat?
--------------------
Companies all set their own rules on when employees are eligible for benefits. Some are 30 days, 3 months. A few are immediate. There is no rule. I haven't seen too many with a 6 month waiting period but it's not that uncommon. 30 days or 3 months are the most common ones I've seen.

How much would it cost to get a cavity fixed without insurance?

Going to the dentist for a cavity without dental insurance
--------------------
It depends on the extent of the decay and the size of the filling. The best thing to do is have a dental exam to assess the problem. They will be able to give you a price at that time.

Regarding dental care: Is there a difference in quality of care received from a PPO provider than a Non-PPO?

My Delta Dental insurance provides a 60% co-pay for Non--PPO and an 80% co-pay for a PPO dental care provider. And are the allowed amounts that are set by Delta Dental different for a PPO and Non-PPO provider for the same procedure?
--------------------
PPO providers are usually paid at a lower rate than a non provider. Thus the insurance company can make more of a profit. That is why they pay less and you have more out of pocket expense if you see one. It has nothing to do with their level of expertise. My personal opinion after practicing dentistry for over 40 years, is that most non providers are better dentists and have plenty of patients and do not need to get paid at a lower rate for their services. That is why they do not sign on as providers.

Where can I find free or very cheap dental work to fix a root canal that has broken?

I had the root canal when I was a teenager and now 20 some years later the tooth has broken and another is loose. I don't have dental insurance and don't make much money. I've checked around and there isn't even a clinic that I could go to in the county that I live in. Does anyone have any ideas? I need help... this is starting to affect my self esteem. I live in Northeast Ohio.
--------------------
Look for the closest dental school. They usually have programs where dental students provide care either free of charge or at very low rates. The students are supervised by licensed dentists.

Should I be held liable for insurance premiums my employer failed to deduct from my pay ?

My employer did not deduct my dental insurance premiums from my pay for the past 8 months and they informed me today that they'll deduct the past due amount to get me up to date ! It's their fault yet I'm being asked to cover their mistake ! I've had this insurance for the past 5 years and they've always automatically deducted the premium from my pay so should I be held liable or should they !
--------------------
Well I'd say its their mistake and considering that you say this went on for 8 months, that's a huge mistake ! I would be checking my 401k as well because if these idiots haven't been deducting your insurance premiums, they also may not have been deducting your 401k contributions !

how can i get free or health/dental insurance for cheap? i'm 19.?

i would like to get braces. i haven't been to the dentist in so long, it's embarrassing. i turn 20 next month, so i still might be eligible to receive free insurance maybe? i have no clue. i can't really pay a lot though because i'm only working part time right now & i'm not in school. any advice would be useful. thank you.
--------------------
Well, when i was pregnant, I had to get medical assistance (from welfare) and it included dental and vision. I dont think you have to be pregnant to still apply, because my daughter is 1, and i still have the insurance for myself. I am also 20, and in need of braces. i am scared of the dentist, though. And I am having mouth problems, and must go soon. So try out welfare. I dont know how you feel about it, but hey, its something.

Individual & Family Health Plans This is a major health insurance plan for individuals and families. If you are looking for comprehensive long term health insurance coverage for yourself and/or your family members who are 62 years old or younger - this is the plan to choose. Short Term Medical Plans This plan is ideal for individuals in transition. Maybe you've found a new job, but your new employer's group health insurance plan won't kick in until you've been with months. Where do I go to find help with paying for my little girls dental work? Are there any grants available?

Unfortunately my 4 year old daughter has to have 4 teeth pulled and nine filled. Our dental insurance only pays 15 percent of the costs. Im trying to find anywhere that will help me cover the cost. which will be Two thousand dollars. If you know anywhere I can try please let me know. Thank you so much!
--------------------
We don't have dental insurance and I have heard that sometimes, dental schools will do work on people's teeth for either free,or for a very low cost, much cheaper than most dentists charge. Keep in mind that in these,"Dental Schools,"these are students who are in training to become dentists and there are board certified dentists watching them very closely, and working with these students, teaching them what to do for different dental needs! You will have to call around in your area to see where there may be a dental school, but be reassured that these dental students LOVE working with patients and as I said earlier, they are not allowed to work by themselves on any patient,an instructor who is a board certified and accreditied dentist is RIGHT THERE MONITORING THE DENTAL STUDENTS EVERY MOVE! I have heard that these dental school students can do everything from fillings,to denture work, and possibly even more work than that, depending on what a patient's dental needs are. I hope this has helped you and PLEASE let us know how everything has turned out for you! Best of luck and best wishes!! ;-)

What is a good dental plan that you recommend?

Looking for a dental insurance or dental discount plan. Thanks for your help.
--------------------
I would recommend Ameriplan. But, I would also recommend shopping around. I have located a website that you can compare discount dental plans. I will list both sites as sources below. When shopping discount plans, I would look at monthly premiums, number of local providers and savings on general procedures (unless you are looking for a specific procedure in which case I would compare the savings on that procedure between plans).

Why do I need Medical Insurance approval for a Oral Surgeon?

I am getting my wisdom teeth removed. My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon. The oral surgeon accepts my dental insurance but not my medical. Why do I need medical insurance approval?
--------------------
You don't need health insurance approval if they don't PAY anything. Generally, wisdom teeth removal with an oral surgeon, is dental, not health. Who's telling you you need medical approval? Ask them WHY.

How should I pay for a $5000 to $8000 total dental bill?

I have to get 5 teeth extracted, 10cavities removed, root canal correction and a tooth implant. If I do not get the dental work done then I probably will not see the age of 40 (I am 25). The total price will be between $5000 to $8000. I do not have dental insurance and have not gotten a consolutation yet. My biweekly paycheck is $769.95. I can try to make my biweekly paycheck $950 or more. I cannot afford the New Jersey health insurance because the cheapest insurance in New Jersey is $244.50 per month. How do I go about paying for this without help from my parents if possible?
--------------------
At our office, Lakeland Hills Dental, Dr. Joe Jankowski offers a payment plan called, "CareCredit". "CareCredit" allows our patients to receive their dental treament and make payments. We offer two different plans with "CareCredit", first- interest free plans up to 6 months, the second plan can range from 24 months to 60 months, currently with an interst rate of 11.9%. There is no penalty to pre-pay. We feel that patients need an option of payment in order to receive their treatment to achieve great oral health. Good Luck!

Who should be responsible for understanding a patients dental benefits? The patient or the dentist office?

Having been a dental assistant for 10 yrs., I have always been told that it is the patients responsibility to know their own benefits. However I see patients daily who don't understand a thing about their dental insurance, especially when it comes to going out of network. It seems like when you try to explain it to them, they get mad at the dental office instead of their insurance company, as if they think we are making it all up. They have usually heard things about insurance from friends, family or coworkers and take that as the gospal. Who should be responsible for knowing details of the insurance plans? Taking into consideration that most dentists accept numerous insurance plans, and each plan has hundreds of individual policies, each having different rules and regulations.
--------------------
It's a tough question and I don't think there's one, deffinitive answer. Having worked as long as you have in the dental field, I have aquired a huge amount of information about insurance plans. I've spent countless hours attending seminars, getting phone support, and reading explanation of benefits (EOB's). There are things I can help patients understand about their insurance benefits and I do this as part of my job. On the other hand, there are still clauses and exceptions that surprise me all the time. Plans change, people max their coverage at other offices, employers don't pay premiums, employees don't work enough hours to qualify, waiting periods come and go.... There's just NO WAY I can be an expert on each of the thousands of plans out there. So, most reasonable people would expect the person who is BUYING the plan to know something about what they purchase. (Employees "buy" the plan by trading their work hours for the benefit the employers offer.) Sadly, this is often not true. Once they hear "dental insurance", all they get is "two free cleanings a year" and that's about it. One of my pet peeves is people not taking responsibility for what is their own - and one of those things is knowing their coverage. If you are intelligent enough to work, you should be able to find out what your plan does - and more importantly, does not - cover. If you don't understand the wording, call someone and ASK a few questions until you do understand it. You bought it, you're paying for it in labor, you should know what it does. People get mad at the dental office over insurance because we have conditioned people to think we're experts in their insurance. For decades, we have accepted assignment of benefits, letting people walk out the door without paying a dime for their services. "Just bill my insurance and I'll pay if there's anything left." We have given them the impression that our "estimate" is exact and if there's any mistakes, it must be the fault of the dental office. They also get mad at us because we're easier to reach than a faceless insurance company. We make handy targets. I'm glad to help our patients understand what "coordination of benefits" means, or "missing tooth clause." But like you, I'm disappointed that more people won't take responsibility for becoming informed on what is - after all - a contract between themselves, their employer, and the insurance company.
