Dental Help for friend with lupus?

My friend suffers from lupus and the medications and compromised immune system have ruined her teeth. The family has dental insurance, but even with it, they would still need to come up with over 7000 dollars out of pocket. Does anyone know of any kind of grant or program to help cover the cost? Or just any suggestions please...she has started to opt for extraction over saving the teeth to cut back on cost, but its sad to see my pretty, 27 year old friend stop smiling because she is losing her teeth

Dental screening on Thursday...reasonable cost and point of being weighed?

I made an appointment to have a dental screening (x-rays and a general evaluation) Thursday. It will be $94. I chose a university, because I believe those are cheaper than private practices. Is this cheap? It still sounds like a lot. Also, if I do in fact have cavities, I will have to get a second job and attend school...do you think I would be better off paying for dental insurance and then getting the dental work? I did a search on this forum and was shocked by the prices. I'm a college student, and I'm paying for this on my own...how long can I wait and still be okay (just so I can make a little more money)? Also, I remember when I got braces as a young teenager, they weighed me. What is the point of being weighed? I don't really see a connection with my weight and dental health. Was that only relevant to my orthodontic work, or will it also be required for a regular screening? I'm hoping it won't be necessary. Thanks in advance.
--------------------
Weight may have been a factor in determining your stage of growth. Orthodontics is all about trying to work WITH growth and development to GUIDE your teeth where they need to go. Timing is everything. We used to weigh patients as part of their general medical evaluation when they were processed in as new patients in dental school, but the last time I weighed a patient was 1975. I have not missed that data either. I've got scales in my eyes that are accurate enough for my purposes. I'm not an orthodontist, though. As far as the fee: I think $94 is cheaper than you could have x-rays and an exam in most private office, but I'm not impressed that it's all that cheap. Dental schools are not the bargain basements that they used to be as universities are holding them more accountable for their income. Some schools have actually closed because they were not able to raise clinic fees high enough to pay their own operating expenses and the universities cut them off. At $94, if you factor in the 3 hours or so that it will take for the procedure, you might think it's cheaper in the "real world." Now, if that includes a cleaning, it's a bargain. An exam only and panoramic x-ray in my office would total $125. A very detailed evaluation (perio charting) and x-ray would be $155. You decide.

I was recently laid off. Should I use my remaining medical insurance to get braces?

My medical insurance will end at the end of the month. And the dental covers 1500$ of braces. I could get this now, but I'd have to put another 1500 of my own money to pay the full 4500-5000 for braces. Should I get this now? or wait til I get a new job?
--------------------
1500 + 1500 = 3,000. NOT 4500 - 5000. xxx

We live in Norhwest Ohio, and my 21 year old son has really bad teeth and needs dentures. However, he does not have insurance through his job and can't afford to pay for them himself.I am really worried about the health affects from his teeth. So, does anyone in Ohio know of free or low cost dental care or any organizations that can help pay?

Check with local colleges. If there is a dental program, they might be able to get him in, little to no cost. Usually long waits though, if he can wait.

dental plans, and being able to afford the treatment?

If one was to have dental insurance and under went a dental procedure could he work out a payment plan with his dentist, instead of paying the lump some all at once?
--------------------
Some dentists will do this. They might have a loan company they work with. If it is just a regular dentist they might let you do this, but make you pay off the bill before they do the treatment.

Is it possible for a person on workman's comp to get dental coverage from the Carrier?

I have no insurance, but the coverage for the injury I recieved at the work place, which is for a lower back injury. The carrier does provide me with a bi-weekly check, but I discovered that the dental work I need will cost over $3000 dollars. I also would appreciate it if someone out there can also answer this other question: I have recently moved from New York to Pennslyvania, and finding a doctor to continue treatment has been difficult. Thus, I have been traveling to and from the doctor's in NY. to continue treatment as well as benefits. My question is it possible to have the carrier pay for a rental because my car will not last if I drive back and forth for once a month. Please help me out!
--------------------
Workers' Comp insurance is for injuries that you sustain from an accident while working or traveling to and from your job. If the injuries sustain effected you dental work, then possibly yes, if the injury was soft tissue to another part of your body, then no. With regards to your car, if your car was damaged within the scope of your employment, you would have to check with your auto insurance carrier to ascertain coverage for a rental. If you receive a settlement from your Workers' Comp Claim, you can use the money any way you please.

can i cancel my health insurance?

I signed up for dental and medical insurance for a year paying twice a year, which I figured means for 6 months. I payed the $760, which I figured would be the payment the second time too. But, I got a bill after 5 months for $920. They said it was 760 before, because it was only 5 months, but now it will be 6. I feel like they screwed me, what can I do?

Where can you go for cheap dental work near Toronto, canada?

For someone that has no health insurance and needs a bridge / implant or crown who normally resides in Toronto - which nearby countries are recommended for both a nice relaxing holiday and a chance to have such dental work done and what are the sort of likely costs involved? Looking at places that are not too expensive to reach by plane - so mainly consider Mexico, Brazil, Chile, etc.
--------------------
Try to visit a Dental School around your area, they need patients for their Dental students. Usually the cost for treatment is a fraction of what you would pay at a regular dentist. Example: Cost of a Crown at a regular dentist: $750.00. Cost of a Crown at a Dental School: $202.00 Good Luck

where can i find a good dental plan?

i need dental insurance, where can i find insurance that covers all work 100% i need to have some teeth pulled and replace as well as a few fixed any help would be appreciated
--------------------
If you are looking for a dental insurance that pays 100% of the bill the premium will be expensive. If you are looking for a dental plan that includes all treatments I would look at a plan called dental plus. This plan can save you a lot of money because its affordable and includes all treatments.

Can I add Dental coverage to my COBRA plan?

I as laid off in mid February (a little over 4 months ago). At the time I only chose to have COBRA for health insurance. I never thought I'd still be out of work when it came time for dental checkups, but that time is now coming up. So can I change my COBRA plan to now include dental coverage, or is it too late?
--------------------
Unfortunately, the answer is NO. However, you do have options, if you were to visit www.marcosvicentefinancial.com and click on the Health Care page, scroll down until you see Madison Dental, you can get a few quotes and compare your choice of programs -- and apply right online. If you are strapped for money (within your budget) you can scroll back up until you see CAREington Dental and that is a discount plan for about $12 per month (for the entire house hold). A lot of times actual Dental coverage plans are not worth the premiums; annual limitations, annual deductibles, 6 months to a year long waiting periods, monthly premiums, coinsurance percentages, & copays per visit !!! Besides, most of the time... "cash is king" at the dentist office and in the long run you'll be better off putting all that coin in your pocket and only spending when you actually need to go in for a cleaning or have work done. Sincerely, MarcosVicente

No Insurance..I need relief of toothache such as root canal.Im going to the hospital, can they not admit me?

I went once before to the dental clinic in the hospital, they took me in. I havent paid the hospital bill. I am in alot of pain and would like something to be done whether its an extraction or root canal..Can they say no and leave me in pain because I have no insurance or because i havent paid? I live in the state of New York. Thanks!
--------------------
In New York, emergency care is required to be provided regardless of your economic status. A toothache may or may not qualify under that statute. However, it has been my experience that they will treat you.

Does Tricare Dental cover dental implants? ?

I recently got married to my wife who's in the Navy. I'm wanting to get dental implants, but my current dental insurance doesn't cover them at all since it's 'Cosmetic.' I've been looking/reading around, and on the Tricare site it said they only cover 1200 annually? If so/not how much do they cover if any for dental implants?
--------------------
Nope...in fact there are very few insurance companies that are presently covering implants. Good Luck

I have a denplan extensive cover, can I go abroad for treatment?

I could receive the same treatment in Germany for one third of the UK price...would I need to pay it myself or would I be able to recover it from my dental insurance co thanks.
--------------------
It should tell you on your policy terms and conditions. If it doesn't then contact them, if the answer is 'yes' then get them to confirm it in writing. If the answer is 'no' then ring again and make sure you get the same answer before giving up! Even if you think you are covered on reading your policy I would contact them before embarking on any treatment overseas.

should i quit my job to be a restaurant server?

Im making 12.98 per hour and im starting to hate it. Should i quit my current job to be a server in an upscale restaurant? The thing kinda stop me is the benifits from my current job, like medical and dental insurance but other than that i dont like it. where would i make more money?
--------------------
depends on how good your current benefits are and how much/often you need them ... good medical coverage can be pricey ... you should get some quotes for independent coverage to compare the cost savings. It will also depend on the kind of restaurant you work at ... some nicer ones will have better tips ...

My work takes my benefits out after tax, is that legal?

I recently signed up for medical/dental insurance through work. My benefits are taken out AFTER taxes. I contacted the benefits department and they say its because the IRS doesn't recognize domestic partners as dependents. My parnter had me on his benefits at American Airlines and he had the benefits taken out pre tax, so is FedEx breaking the law or are am I looking at Sexual Discrimination?
--------------------
Regardless of your domestic situation, companies have the option of taking benefits out either pre-tax or after tax. In order to withhold benefits pre-tax, the company has to set up a Section 125 plan.

What is Patient's Financial Responsibility When Insurance Company Adjusts Claims?

My dental insurance company processed a claim by my dentist and denied it because of their contractual agreement with the provider that any fillings re-worked within 2 years are not the patient's responsibility. The provider's benefit statement regarding this service states, "The amounts shown as payable by you and by Delta Dental are in accordance with the terms of your dental plan and the terms of our agreement with your dental provider." The benefits statement shows my 80% benefit level for this service. The insurance company is not saying that I am ineligible for the benefit. Rather, they are saying that the dentist is not eligible to be paid for this service (by either the insurance company or me) based on his contract with Delta Dental and the benefits to be provided by Delta Dental and paid by the customer. The benefits statements includes notes explaining why the claim was denied. The underlying question is: "What is the patient's responsibility when the insurance provider says it is zero in accordance with the insurance agreements that all parties are abiding by?" Said differently, "Is the insurance company the final arbiter of amounts owed by the patient?" Does the insurance agreement prevail? Or does the doctor truly have the right to demand payment for amounts that the insurance company says the patient does not owe? I realize the patient is responsible for co-pays and deductibles. But I am pretty convinced that if the insurance company is denying the claim and also stating the patient has no responsibility, then the patient truly has no responsibility until and unless the provider gets the claim processed differently. The provider agreed to be bound by insurance processing when he agreed to accept this provider and its terms and benefits. Insurance companies routinely adjust the "submitted fee" downward to the "accepted/contractual" fee and providers routinely accept those adjustments (and that is one of the reasons we have this complex insurance system: to adjust charges to reasonable levels and protect patients. We pay tons of premiums for this benefit). It makes no sense to then claim the patient owes other amounts that the insurance company says the patient does not owe.
--------------------
the insurance company is NOT saying you dont owe. they are just saying they won't pay.

what are good at home remedies for gingivitis?

i went from having an electric toothbrush to a manual one for a month or so and i guess i kept missing a few spots, anywayy its just a little tender under one tooth and i need an at home remedy. please dont tell me to see a dentist as i have no money to spare right now and i don't have dental insurance. so far i've gone back to an electric toothbrush, and rinse with hydrogen peroxide and listerine twice a day. thanks(:
--------------------
You're really irritating your gums by rinsing with these things. Try warm salt water its the best thing for your mouth, speeds up healing. make sure you keep the teeth very clean, brush 2x/day at least two minutes, floss 1x/day. It should clear up in about one week.
