Insurance for dental work I've had consultations for?

I am a full time student and my father is retired military. He is looking into enrolling in the delta dental plan through his retiree program which is a very good program considering his crappy one that he has from his job. Anyway, I was in the process of getting consultations for my wisdomt teeth extractions. I recently went to a dental school to get my xrays looked at to get the procedure done. I was wondering, if he enrolls in this program, am I able to go back to the same oral surgeon with a new dental insurance, or would I have to go to another surgeon so that it is not looked at as a "pre exisiting condition" so that they will take the insurance?

What is the best dental insurance for my situation?

I have a broken tooth (number 5 bottom left) which has to be either replaced with an implant or root-canaled and filled. I have been told that either way it will take more than 3000$ to fix it. Obviously, I have no dental insurance plan and I have to fix my tooth before it affect my health. Now, I am thinking about different ways to deal with this, one would be to pay in cash or installment without any dental plan. Another way is to get a dental discount plan or a real insurance. What do you think would be the best choice? If I get a real insurance, can I use it right away? What are some reputable dental insurances in the US? Where do I start to find plans and quotes? Does it worth it to go through all the insurance policies and stuff like that? Or I can just fix the tooth by cash? thanks for your help
--------------------
I would encourage you to visit this great website: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago and they have saved me thousands of dollars on all of my dental services. From extractions to xrays, fillings, crowns, Cleanings, and even my braces. They even had my affordable benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. I have been using this plan when I max out my insurance and or when I had a waiting period and needed work done ASAP. Good luck and Hope this helps.

Dental insurance? is it worth it..I dont really understand how it works?

I know you pay a monthly fee..so if i got insured could i then straight away go to a private dentist and have work done and the cost be covered (with me paying monthly?)
--------------------
If you need ANY dental work done then yes dental insurance is absolutely worth it. Anything a dentist does is gonna cost quit a bit and your insurance will cover a percentage of that cost, usually 50-80%, depending what it is and how good your insurance is. It should also cover two cleanings a year at no cost to you.

Need dental work done, no insurance or plan.?

Dental Plan or Insurance out of pocket? Hi, I don't receive dental insurance or a plan from my work. I need dental work done. I've not been to a dentist in 7 years. I've got tooth decay on one of my two front teeth, at only 21 years old. It's killer with my social skills, and I'm always conscious of the decay, and try to not smile. I know, embarrassing right. Anyways. How should someone that doesn't have insurance go about getting dental work done? I need to see a dentist, and have my front tooth repaired before it continues to eat, and I've no longer a front tooth. Possible veneer or two. I'm in Oregon btw. I know I'll be billed, and I'm cool with making payments, as long as my teeth are fixed, and I no longer have this decay. Thanks for your time.

Need help to choose dental insurance.....please read ?

I am working as contractor and don't have insurance. I just purchase insurance through Mega Insurance http://www.megainsurance.com/ They have the dental plan that cost about $40/mt for family, but look like i have to pay out arm/leg at the time of service. My kids (11 and 6) need to have some work done (cavities and crown). What Health and Dental insurance is best for private contractor like me? Any dental insurance that is good so that I can sign up to have my kids dental work done? thanks so much.
--------------------
Your first mistake was the Mega policy. Mega is a hospital certificate, not a comprehensive major medical. Here is a comparison of Mega to the other plans available. After reading this you should visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. Mega deductible is per confinement, which means if you go into the hospital 3 times in one year you have 3 deductibles to meet. Most plans' deductible is per year. Lifetime maximum for Mega is $1 Million. Major medical plans are $2 to $8 Million. Mega has an annual maximum per illness of $500,000. Most Major medical have NO annual maximums. Depending upon the policy, Mega will only pay UP to $500 per day if you are admitted to the hospital. Average daily hospital cost - $3000, Average stay – Three days. For the average hospital stay MEGA will pay up to $1500, you will pay $7500. Depending upon the policy, Mega will only pay UP to $1500 per day if you are in ICU. Average cost - $8000, Average stay – Two days. For the average ICU stay MEGA will pay up to $3000, you will pay $13,000. Since most people (unless they're dead) have a hospital stay after the ICU stay you can add in the figures from the previous paragraph. Doctor visits while you are in the hospital is limited to $50 per visit and limited to ONE visit per day. Average cost - $120, Average number of daily visits – TWO. For the average 3 day hospital stay MEGA will pay $150, you will pay $570. Ambulance transport is limited to $250 per trip and payable only if you are admitted to the hospital for over 24 hours. If you are transported to the ER and not admitted - no benefits. The average cost for ambulance - $1000. For the ambulance (if you are admitted to the hospital) MEGA will pay $250, you will pay $750. For the ambulance (if you are NOT admitted to the hospital) MEGA will pay $0, you will pay $1000. Air ambulance is not covered unless additional rider purchased. Maximum benefits with Mega are $3500. Average cost - $12,000. Your bill - $8500. Many other limitations for: miscellaneous hospital inpatient charges, inpatient and outpatient surgery, routine physicals, anesthesiologist and more. Plus you have to pay the expensive yearly dues. Here is some information about Mega: http://law.freeadvice.com/insurance_law/… For dental insurance you can check this link. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

Can a dental office submit claims to insurance LATER?

I went to my dentist yeaterday. I supposed to have dental insurance trough my wife's work (actually we paid for it), and HR ar her work told her that the insurance will kick in Nov 01/2007. Yes, but when I went to the office they checked with the insurance company and said to me that there is no insurance under our name. When my wife double checked with Human Resources they told her that the insurance actually will kick in Dec 01/2007 (one month later). I didn't pay the bill. The dentist said to me to clarify the problem and call them bak. I am going to call the office tomorrow. Is it possible for them to claim the work they did after Dec 01/2007 or I have to pay cash AGAIN. It is so painful paying cash and insurance at the same time, isn't it?
--------------------
They can pretend that you got the work done on Dec. 7 instead of Nov. 7, but its technically insurance fraud. however, if they are willing to do it, let them do it.

Dental Hygenist recommends expander, insurance doesnt cover ortho? ?

I saw my dentist for the first time in 5 yrs(had no health insurance) and actually he wasn't in so I saw his terrible dental hygenist she took x-rays/cleaned/examined..came out with a bunch of cavities(not sure of the # she said he might find more?) which doesn't bother me, because genetically I'm pretty prone to them..She also mentioned I go back to my orthodontist(havent seen him in about 5 years also...) and get an expander on the bottom of my teeth if I could..(I have overcrowding since my wisdom teeth came in/not wearing my retainer..dammit.) Well here's my issue, my dental insurance doesn't cover orthodontics(wonderrrful..) and I'm not exactly rich(more like starving college student, whom mommy & daddy havent loaned me a penny since I was 13..) and I don't know what to do..I've made the appointment with the orthodontist to get a permanent metal bracket on the back of my two front teeth put back on..(if he can, that happened almost 2 years ago)..and I don't want to mention the expander and have him start doing things and not be able to pay my rent this month..What should I do? If I don't get this expander, will my dentist just stop seeing me?
--------------------
If finances are an issue then you should not be considering ortho at this time. Ortho is elective treatment mostly for the purposes of cosmetics. You should be working on getting any cavities fixed. As for the hygenist, I don't know what to say. They should not be diagnosing you, especially in ortho. A hygenist may notice cavities and mention it to you and have doctor verify that you do have cavities but for the most she should not be doing the final diagnosis of it. The other odd thing is if you do have cavities why are you getting braces done first? Ortho is not to be started until the mouth is stable. This is negligence on the part of orthodontist who puts the braces on knowing there are cavities. I would seek a second opinion and if you do have cavities get them worked on first.

Approval for Health & Dental Insurance?

What criteria do insurance companies use to approve you for insurance benefits? I submitted an application for health and dental insurance & have poor credit so I'm wondering if this could be a reason I won't get approved. My family was on Medicaid, but as soon as finances looked better we wanted to be on regular health insurance. I'm just curious what a person would do if they aren't approved for insurance? I have two small kids that really need to be insured for obvious reasons, but also my son was born with a heart condition that was repaired, but he does require ongoing treatment. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dentists, Dental work, and Dental Insurance plans?

For the past 6 or 7 years, Ive largely ignored my dental problems. Ive had bad teeth all my life from taking a medication for seizures. I don't have then anymore, and I'm nolonger on the medication but my bad teeth persist. I rely haven't been able to afford to get my teeth fixed until now, and even now with my son being 6 months old, and all the new expenses I don't have much more than I did before. My dental problems however have gotten to the point where I can no longer afford to put them off any longer. I have two molars with about 1/4 of each tooth missing, and every other tooth in my mouth has some kind of discoloration or hole in it. I'm use to the constant tooth aches by now, so much that I hardly even notice them any more. Indeed I cant even remember what its like for my teeth NOT to hurt. I haven't had any kind of dental insurance, or seen a dentist in years, so some information might be good. Anyone have a plan they can recommend? Any good websites with info? Thanks!

How can I get my Dental Insurance to Pay consistantly?

I get my work done at a dental school where the faculty and dental students work on my teeth. I pay out of pocket and my insurance is suposed to reimburse me. 50% of the time it does 50% it sends me forms that want more information. I went and had two wisdom teeth pulled. The dental school gave me the same print out to give to my insurance company. The company paid for one tooth, but the other tooth they claimed they wanted the residents license and tax id number. The tooth they paid for had the schools license number, the deans license number and the schools tax id number. They accepted the information for one claim, but not the other. The school tells me the information they provided is sufficient and the dental student who is not paid does not have a tax id number. I explained this to the insurance company, but they insist on the infomation. What can I do to be reimbursed?
--------------------
I have gone to the schools as well, and it is a pain getting things paid for. Definatly document all your work and see if the school will let try again to help you push the paperwork through.. i'm still fighting something from over a year ago.. so instead.. I found something with almost the exact same pricing and you can go to a bunch of dentists and it's not a pain getting reimbursed since they just give you an upfront discount nad then you pay the difference. it's a dental discount plan with AmeriPlan USA. AmeriPlan USA is the nations largest company in discount dental plans and we were just featured in MAY 2008 of PARENT Magazine as the best dental discount coverage in the USA! How much is dental insurance?

I am 18, my family can't afford health / dental insurance. I have had aches in some of my teeth for a while now, and I know from sensitivity while eating and drinking that I must have some cavities. I live in California, I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park figure of what it would cost to get the cheapest dental insurance just so I could get a cleaning / fillings so I could get a "fresh start" so to speak. Also, one of my teeth is starting to get kinda loose, it's not very noticeable but I can feel that it's loose. If I got insurance would they be able to do anything about it?

Is there any dental insurance that covers implants in the U.S.?

I am 57 and have always had poor teeth. For years I was a single mom and could not afford dental care so now my teeth are really bad. I took a loan from my 403(b) seven years ago and got two MAJOR bridges (4 tooth and 5 tooth) on the top. Two months ago, the crown on the tooth next to one of these bridges ( on one of the front four teeth on top) broke...and the remaining tooth has too little left to do a buildup...so the crown can not be glued back on. I do not want a removable tooth in the front here...so, I should have an implant...but, the dentist I went to insisted on checking out my entire mouth rather than just doing this one implant. He has given me optional treatments for the top and bottom of my mouth ranging from a low of $15,500 to a high of $38,000 for this work. Wouldn't it be nice if I had the money to do this??? I've considered going to Mexico or some other country where it would be less expensive to have the work done...but, this extensive work would have to be done over a year and a half to two years....it's not just a "one-time" appointment sort of thing. I want to get a "second opinion"....but, I DO have dental insurance that will cover a portion of the cost for new bridges, crowns or prosthetics if some or all of this is necessary and it's really difficult to find another dentist nearby that accepts my same insurance...plus...implants are NOT covered on the insurance I now have at all. Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks.
--------------------
There are some dental insurance that covers implants. Metlife will cover implants up to $1100.00 per year so they cover about 65% of the cost. I'm sure all employer dental plans would cover implants but most companies don't want to include that coverage. They would rather provide preventative care and minor work like crowns, bridges, etc. From your question it sounds like you're trying to find a supplemental plan to cover implants. They probably don't exist or if they do they're probably expensive and don't cover the full amount. From what you describe of your problem the bridge could probably be fixed by having the bad tooth replaced with an implant post to secure the bridge. It may require another post on the opposite side. You should look for a dentist who will fix what you have and will accept the fact that you don't have a lot of money. See if you can find a dental referral service in your area and talk to them. They may be able to point you to a dentist who specializes in that type of work. Good Luck.

No dental insurance, how much $?

Hello, I'm under my mom's medical insurance b/c I'm a full time college student, however I have no dental insurance. My wisdom teeth's are starting to bother me. I'm a bit scared but I want them remove, anyone know how much money that could cost?
--------------------
It can vary- it will depend on if they are impacted or not. So it could be a couple hundred or it could be upwards of $1000. I would call an oral surgeon (oral surgeons take out wisdom teeth most of the time as opposed to a dentist) and ask for a consultation regarding your wisdom teeth. That won't cost much and then they can tell you exactly what they need to do to remove them and how much it will cost you.

Can't beat that, preexisting conditions are covered immediately. You do have to choose a primary dentist, and use network providers. There are many to choose from. Best wishes.

Help with dental insurance?

Ok, , please only answer this if you are for sure on the answer! Thanks. Ok, I have 4 cavities and gingivtes, and my husband has a bunch of cavities and gingivites and root canals. We have no dental insurance, and we need atleast 6-7000 dollars worth of dental work done. DOES ANYONE have any idea of a place I could go to get amazing dental insurance? I can't pay up front to much money maybe a few hundred. This really sucks- its way to much to even think about =( thanks
--------------------
It is hard to find individual plans (those not linked to an employer). And when you do find them they are usually not that good. As the saying goes "you get what you pay for". Even if you had, or are able to find, a traditional indemnity or PPO plan, they typically pay out a maximum of $1000- $1500 per person, per year. And the more complicated procedures you refer to, would only be covered at 50% most likely. So in addition to paying you deductible, copays and any amounts about and beyond the maximu, you will also have paid a premium to your insurance company. You would really need to sit down and do the math to see if gettin insurance really saves you that much money in the long run. See if you dentist can spread out the treatment of a longer period of time and work out a payment or possibly a low interest rate credit card. The USA really has to do something the insurance problems we have. Good Luck!

Dental Insurance--Is it really necessary?

So, I'm looking into getting private health insurance because I will be leaving my employment soon. I'm looking at dental insurance. The plans I'm finding range from $8 a month with an unlimited coverage amount to $80 a month for a $1000 annual limit. The $8 a month is attractive except for the fact that there are only 3 dentists in the plan near me and they are all about an away from where I live. I've found a local dentist I absolutely love, but he is not on that plan. I cannot see spending $60-80 a month only to get denied coverage over $1000 a year!!! I have pretty healthy teeth and gums and go in twice a year for a cleaning. I've checked with my dentist and I think that will cost me about $300 annually. It seems like that is the way to go, but I wanted to see if anyone could give me a reason why I really need dental coverage??? Thank you.
--------------------
After you leave your job, you can always use COBRA for 18 months until you either find a new job or get new insurance. If you're not familiar with it, you keep your same insurance but pay the premiums yourself. Most dental insurance companies have a $1000-$2500 a year plan maximum, but that doesn't mean you can only have that amount of work done. It means they will pay that much towards your dental treatment annually. Checkups are usually covered in full, with fillings, crowns, etc.. covered at a 'usual and customary' rate, usually anywhere from 60%-80%, leaving you with the difference. Stick with your local dentist since you're comfy with him and his staff. You could always assign benefits over to him on the dental claim form, then you'd just be responsible for the outstanding balance. Good Luck!

DENTAL FILLING, INDIVIDUAL ... NO INSURANCE???? HELP!!!?

hello I would like to take care of some cavities, I'm an individual with no dental insurance whatsoever, I would like to know which would be cheaper? to get a filling w/o insurance, to get an dental discount plan thingy? or to go to the dentist without either?
--------------------
You can do the following : 1. Get the dental discount plan 2. Go to a local dental school for cheaper fees 3. Go to a local community health care center and sign up for a "Sliding Fee", if they offer it. Sliding Fee allows you to get the work done for 50% of the cost, provided you can prove a low income. Good luck !

Good dental insurance?

Dental insurance isn't provided through our jobs, so we are looking for some coverage on our own. Does anyone have personal dental insurance? If so, which companies do you suggest?
--------------------
Dental coverage purchased as an individual almost never makes sense. Insurance companies could not stay in business if they paid out more in benefits than they take in in premiums. Most dental plans out there are not insurance at all but "discount plans" with unsustainably low fees which dentists often accept to get you in the door. There is then a strong incentive to steer patients to services with uncontrolled fees. Your best bet if you can't get your employers to set up a group is to try to see if medical savings accounts are available. Failing that, if you expect high dental bills see if you can find a dentist who offers financing. Most dentists should be able to prioritize treatment and perform it in stages to make the financial pain more manageable. Good luck, Steve Bornfeld, DDS
