cold callers are they stupid? or just pathetic losers who dont want a real job?

Its saturday morning i'm slouching about waiting for my sister to call, the door knocks and i run foward to let her in. Oh but no! its not somebody i'm comfertable with. Some clipboard hugging smily bint. I told her straight off "Sorry i thought you were somebody i was expecting or else i wouldnt have opened the door so quickly" 30 seconds later shes accusing me off being aggresive even though she called to my door and didnt take the hint that i was expecting somebody. She was trying to sell dental insurance. I have dental insurance already from my house insurance company, if i want any insurance i go out myself and shop for it i dont expect some ****** to come to my door and accuse me of threatening behaviour before running off because she lost a sale. So cold callers what is it with them? are they idiots or what.
--------------------
Cold callers are annoying. But implying that they don't have "a real job" is annoying too. They're usually ordinary people trying to earn a living. I'm sure cold calling wasn't their first choice.... By the way, the callers themselves don't create the company policies, so personally attacking them is an easy cop-out. I worked in retail, on tills, for years, and I had to deal with snobs telling me to "get a real job". It's quite funny, because when it comes down to it, these people usually mean "Get a job where you sit at a desk, filing stuff, shredding some paper and answering the phone." These are usually the types who ended up in soul-destroying, dull jobs themselves, and take their bitterness out on those they see as "beneath" them (due to the lack of a poxy desk). Get a grip on your ego, and chill out. P.S. I never said you attacked her to her face. But you've personally insulted her on here. Not much better. And about "false rape" accusations, please get over your victim complex. The only thing I've accused you of is what you clearly are: a snob who thinks people who work as cold callers are lesser people, and who makes nasty personal comments about them instead of questioning the companies involved.

Child custody. What would a judge think?

What do you think the court system would think with sending th ex this? In the letter I wrote you dated 8/19/2008, which you received and signed for by certified mail, I stated that (The child) had said that he needed glasses. He had said that his music teacher wrote a letter stating that he needed his eyes checked. I asked for a copy of that letter to be sent to me prior to any action being taken in respect to his vision, in order for us to discuss, choose an optometrist and a time in which (Step mom) and I would be able to attend an appointment. Also, in the letter on 8/19/2008, I stated, once again, that we currently do not carry vision insurance for (child) because there was previously never any mention of him having any vision issues. When I picked (child) up from your house on 09/01/02008, you stated that you had taken (child) to get glasses and that the bill was in his school bag. In blatant disregard for my wishes on the matter, you never communicated to me that you were taking him to the optometrist nor did you ever communicate with me the date that he would be seen so that I could attend. This is completely unacceptable. We both have equal rights to (child), but by you not communicating with me properly and not involving me, you are taking away some of my rights as his father. You have not respected any request I have made to be allow me to be an active parent or for me to have any input on issues pertaining to his medical health. As previously stated, I wanted to discus this matter before any appointments were scheduled because I am the one who carries insurance on him. When open enrollment is available with my employer, I intend on adding (child) to my vision plan. Wal-Mart's vision center is not covered a preferred provider with my insurance and therefore, when he is added to my policy, all of his records from Wal-Mart will have to be transferred out to a provider who is covered. He only needs one eye doctor and this entire situation could have been avoid with merely your compliance with my previous wishes and requests for you to communicate with either myself or (step mom). In the future I expect for you to keep me involved in every aspect of my son's life, and that you will allow me to have equal rights as the court decreed was appropriate. As stated in the original Journal of Judgment and Decree of Divorce, which I have included a copy of in this letter, all medical and dental expenses not reimbursed or otherwise paid by health or dental insurance policies covering (child) are to be paid on a "fifty-fifty" basis. With the new ruling of child support it states that I am only responsible for $300.00 per month plus all extracurricular activities, lunches, and daycare for which I provide. Since expense above and beyond the aforementioned items were not addressed in the prior rulings, I feel that the incurred expense of his vision care should follow "fifty-fifty" rule and we should equally share the expense. Therefore, I am requesting that you generate a payment plan to allow me to pay my half of the $111.00, the total cost of eye exam and glasses, since you did not allow me adequate amount of time to budget for the extra expense. There was also other bill's for two polo shirts and other miscellaneous school supplies in (child) school bag. As it has always been clothing kept at your home you have paid for and clothing kept at my home I have paid for. As for the supplies that he needed for school you said you would be taking care of them. You have never communicated to me that I would be responsible for expenses incurred nor did you give me the option on what was bought or spent. It would have made more since to of have given me a copy of the school supply list. Then some form of communication on what you expect for the expenses incurred and in what proportions each of us should be responsible for. I have done some research on the subject and have included in this letter, copies of the collection of opinions of many peoples views on the matter.
--------------------
Way too long and way too trivial. It is exactly like stuff my ex husband tried to pull on me, and it didn't fly well with the judge. What do you expect to get from it? Money? Probably won't work. Make your ex look bad? Also more likely to backfire onto you. The kid needs glasses, and if it is bad enough that the music teacher notices, he needs them *now,* not after protracted negotiations between you and your ex. My company changed insurance policies every year or two, which often meant I had to change one of my medical providers. So having records transferred from one office to another is not going to be unusual. And finally: $111 is cheap, cheap, cheap for an eye exam *and* glasses. I sat down and did the calculations on how much I paid a month for vision coverage, how much the co-payments were for eye exams and frames, and how much *more* regular optometrists charged. I realized that it was much cheaper to skip the vision coverage and go to Costco or Walmart for exams and glasses. I certainly hope you will include my post with your response, but somehow I don't think so.

--------------------
Ummmm..I would think it would be just a bunch of mumble jumble - Why would somebody need a collection of "opinions" on this matter. THe child needed to go to the eye doctor - when a child needs eye glasses - (a teacher said he should get them checked) - you shouldn't wait for an "enrollment" period to get his eyes checked. AND - how uncomfortable would that be for the Mother to have to have the father and stepmother come to an appointment for glasses - why bring the WHOLE FAMILY to a eye appointment. Just split the bill 50/50 - and see if the mother will accept $50 a month from you. SO - what do I think the judge would think of that letter? It is just a lot of nonsense- and dates layed out in a letter.. trying to be professional and getting everything out - but, its a LONG DRAWN OUT LETTER. I'm sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear - but, just wanted to tell you my opinion. hopefully the child is older - and you won't have to deal with this - you owe me - I owe you for 17 more years!! As to answer one of your other questions about child support. Child support should pay for clothing, food, shelter, school supplies etc... I receive child support and I do not ask my ex for money for any clothing, school supplies, sports or anything - thats what the child support is for. If he feels like doing something nice for the kids(which he doesn't) - then that is seperate from child support - but, he doesnt have to. We also pay child support out in my household - and in that situation - she does ask for money for school supplies etc - we used to pay it - until we felt like she was totally taking it for granted - and she made it up to be something we HAD to do - instead of wanted to do out....thats when we decided - we pay child support- she can use that money for the school supplies. Is it YOu that is getting the vision insurance? I checked into that - and we have 3 in the household that has contacts - but, when you add up the premiums it really didn't pay. How often do you really need contacts? not every year for me. plus - you will be the one paying for the vision insurance and yes, you might get free glasses - but, who is that saving money for? THE EX! more will come out of your pocket for premiums - and less money comes out of her pocket. should look into that more.

Question on dental filling?

What does it mean "Resin composite-3s,posterior"? Apart from insurance claim my dentist asked me to pay $90. Some of the fillings are free as per my insurance. Is it possible they can put wrong procedure code and eat my money & insurance money? Just curious. Thanks.
--------------------
The code means a composite (white) filling, 3 surfaces, posterior tooth. I hope they explained the filling and procedure prior to doing the filling. Posterior composite (white) fillings tend to be expensive and the remaining amount may not be covered by your insurance. Call your insurance and ask, they'll know. Dr. Dan

Should I sue this dentist?

At the end of Nov./beginning of Dec. I went to the dentist because my dental insurance was about to expire. I had no tooth aches, just a chipped tooth and some cavities. The 1st time I went they cleaned me and told me to come back. The 2nd time they filled a cavity (after breaking off large chunk off of a tooth, stopping to look at her assistant, and resuming hoping I didn't notice the BB sized chunk that flew across my mouth and the loud breaking sound) and left a nub where a tooth used to be. They also fitted me for a crown. I paid 350 for the crown (was 700, 50% co pay). The temp broke the same day and I swallowed many pieces of whatever they used to coat the temp. When I got the real crown it was not like any other tooth in my mouth, even my other crowns. It's like a crude attempt at a crown. On the day they set the crown they also filled a small bicuspid (did well on that), and filled/drilled a molar. I sat in that room for 45 minutes waiting, losing numbness, because her and 3 of her 4 staff members were in the back making fun of a Pakistani family that had just left. They finally came back, finished, and referred me to a specialist to extract a wisdom tooth. Well, they told me I could eat on the side that was worked on that day in a few hours. I was in pain for a week straight. They told me they would call if they had an opening the last time I was there, but they never did and after 7 days I decided to call them. Turns out, I needed a root canal (650$ out of pocket). The guy that did the root canal does nothing but root canals, and had to use an anestetic they only have to use 6 times a year. The nerves were so enflamed I can not understand how she missed it. So now I have to go buy a crown with no dental insurance because she refused to charge me for it the day before my root canal (Dec 20th). I had the root canal done on the 21st (last day of insurance) and could not charge it then because you can not charge a root canal and crown the same day with the insurance plan I had. NOW, I have been in pain for over a week on the tooth that had the CROWN put on it. She crowned it without checking to see if I needed a root canal, and this is bad pain. Bone pain. Hydrocodone does nothing for it, all I can do is endure for now because I do not have 2000 dollars just lying to fix her mistake. I hate to sue but I'm in pain here. I feel like she screwed me big time. so back to the question... Should I sue this dentist? If so, for how much? If not, why, and how should I fix this? Thanks, Casey Dwayne
--------------------
You can sue anyone but you would not win. So what should you do ? Go back to the dentist and tell him of your concerns. Listen to his side and see if there can be some kind of mutual agreement on where to go from here. If that does not work, and you are not satisfied, ask that all of your records be sent to another dentist of your choice for evaluation and a second opinion. You may have to pay a small fee for this, but it is your right. Depending on what happens from this, you can file a complaint with the state dental society or licensing board. If the dentist was at fault, they will make him pay reparations, etc. I think going through the legal system will only frustrate you. I wish you luck.

Dont know what to do about my teeth?

So I was very dumb and now I feel horrible. I got braces when I was in 6th grade around late 2001. I took a while but starting in 2007 i stopped going to my appointments because of family problems and constant moving and the longer i didn't go the more i didn't want to go cause they scold you for not going well its 2010 now and my braces have fallen apart. I'm 19 and I don't know what to do. I visited a dentist and he says i still need them and my teeth are starting to move apart again. My family doesn't want to go through it again since we already paid. They want to start us again and we don't have insurance so i don't know what to do. The dentist said that my teeth will continue to move and get out of place as I get older. I don't know what to do. I can wait till i get mandatory health insurance when I enter university this fall and apply for separate dental insurance but i might get turned down for that and I don't know anything about dental insurance so I don't know if they would help with braces. What do now

Lost a filling, now my tooth split and its a huge cavity. Now what?

I had one tooth they had to replace the filling four times because I had a cheap dentist. Three years after it fell out I got married. My husbands in the military & he said we just couldn't afford the dental insurance. So I said okay. Well, now my tooth split in half and now I have a huge cavity. He still says he doesn't want to get the dental insurance, so I'm kinda sitting around waiting to see what's going to happen. I'm in a lot of pain. When I get the dental insurance next year while he's gone, what are they going to do to my tooth? I'm really scared.
--------------------
you need to go see a dentist. take out a loan if you have to. that could probably get really infected. your cheek is probably just irritated, but that tooth needs to be taken care of sooner than later. they might pull it, or if it's fixable they might try to fix it. just make sure they don't use the "silver" fillings because those are mercury which is poison to your body. make sure they use the porcelain fillings. i'm no dentist but i'm sure you shouldn't be sitting around waiting to see what happens. go to a dentist.

Front tooth knocked out. Solutions?

Ok, a definitely nightmare scenario has played out for my mom last week. She was out walking and she slipped on some ice and fell, knocking out one of her front teeth and damaging at least the other. She is 50 years old, has no dental insurance, and is naturally an extremely self-conscious person. However, due to this lack of insurance, she hasn't had a dental visit in years, so her overall dental health is probably questionable as it is. This whole thing has completely devastated her, and she refuses to leave her house or even agree to see me yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for cost-effective solutions here? Whether it be dentures (expensive if several teeth need to be removed) implants (also very expensive) or whatever. I'm hoping there's something I don't know about. Any ideas, dental pros?
--------------------
I think the best interim solution is a "flipper". Our office charges $200 for these -- basically a retainer with some teeth attached. Esthetically they look very good (sometimes even I have to take a really close look to figure out which teeth have been replaced). She could wear this until she saved enough for other options. If the cost is too high at your dentist, ask them if they can use cheaper plastic teeth. Best wishes.

What to do for acute toothache on Sunday night?

My husband has really bad toothache pain and the only thing that is relieving it at all is ice water but I know that using ice water is only increasing the length of time it will hurt... but stopping the ice water causes too much pain for him to put up with so he gets the water again... We're also students with NO dental insurance and NO medical insurance except the really crappy Student insurance offered by our university (Ameritas) which doesn't have a dental part. We also have NO money because we live on student loans... Any ideas? We live in Lincoln, Nebraska if it matters. University dental center is expensive; they won't see him for free; it will most likely cost hundreds for a root canal.
--------------------
I live in Lincoln too and there isn't a lot you can do for a tooth ache on a Sunday night.I had a tooth ache with a tooth that partially broke off due to a bad filling job.Orajel was the only relief that I could find.It worked really well. But don't listen to the person that said steal it.

--------------------
Ok longer you wait the more likely you will have to get a root canal and that is way more painful and costs way much more money. And you should never leave and tooth open like that cuz an open cavity is like an open wound. your gums bleed cuz there are blood vessels in your gums that lead to the heart and it is not good for leave an opening to your blood stream like that.

In regard to Health Care Plans?

I'm wondering why Dental insurance isn't a factor for candidates. Is oral health not vital to a human being? There are a lot of people in this country who have teeth rotting out of their heads, not because they like to look like Jack O' Lanterns, but because they can not afford a dentist nor can they afford Dental insurance. I guess I've always been curious as to why Dental is not included in health care plans. My parents are both retired and need to pay for their dental work out of pocket. They're lucky that they can afford to do so, but a lot of other people can't. Your thoughts?
--------------------
Dental plans usually come with most health plans, although they do not cover much. We got extra dental insurance and it didn't cover much either.

How much will it cost for an American to get wisdom teeth taken out in Canada?

I live in a western suburb of Chicago. Two years ago I had to have a wisdom tooth taken out because it was falling apart. It cost me $800. The dental surgeon wanted to do the rest but he said the remaining 3 would cost about $2500 two of which are impacted and will eventually cause problems with my jaw and surrounding teeth if left alone. I decided to put it off because I didn't have the money and I'm not fond of debt. Neither my health insurance nor my dental insurance covers dental surgery which wisdom teeth extraction is considered to be (whether impacted or not). I'm now considering taking a vacation and going to Canada to have them taken out. I am curious to hear from anyone who has had them done in Canada or a Canadian dental surgeon on how much it would cost and whether or not it would be advisable. I have X-rays taken before the one tooth was pulled, if that helps.
--------------------
It will probally cost anywhere from $600-$1300 depending on how many teeth their pulling, and you will probally have to redo the x-rays since they from 2 years ago, your teeth have changed since then.

Help me I may have a problem with my gums. Help?

There is a particular area at the top right of my mouth and in the area of my first molar with a crown on it, the gums around that tooth bleed a little when I floss. They don't bleed when I brush but I still worry. I use a soft bristle brush and I don't brush hard, I floss once every day and I occasionally gargle salt water. My gums still bleed when I floss. They are also sore in that area for a minute after flossing. They had receded a little over that tooth, but don't seem to be receding anymore. I use Pepsodent and Aquafresh toothpaste. I am out of mouthwash. I had my dental insurance taken away because I am over 18, people over 18 with IEHP lose their dental insurance a couple years ago and I can't afford to pay for more dental visits me and my mom are on a tight budget because of money trouble. But I do go to a place that offers free dental day once a year. Last time I was there they said floss as deep as I can go and carefully. They also pointed out a couple of my teeth had receding gums mildly. How can I stop this bleeding and soreness from flossing? And to prevent further receding? :(

My teeth are very sensitive to cold and hot foods and transparent at the edges, especially the front teeth....?

they also have large gaps between them and generally move when I try to move them with two fingers. Can I have an implant dentist completely remove them all and put in stronger and bigger implants since I can't bite on anything hard with these "baby teeth" either????? I do have dental insurance, so I assume it should should not be expensive. I also think that cosmetic dentistry could solve the problem but they do not accept delta dental insurance or any dental insurance for that matter
--------------------
??? Have you been doing the whitening thing too much? That would explain what you are saying in terms of both the sensitivity and the transparency, I think, because you can damage the enamel, which you do NOT want to do. And you should NOT be "trying to move your teeth with two fingers"--WTF are you thinking??? SHEESH! If you have poor teeth, you of course need to talk about your issues with an actual dentist, etc.; in the meantime, do NOT screw with your teeth...how do you think that "seeing if they are loose" is somehow going to HELP them?? Please, please use some common sense! :-( They are your TEETH and dental health affects your ability to eat, thus your intake of the needed energy in the sort of mix you have to have to be healthy. Don't screw with them, take care of them! :-( Good luck!

To root canal or pull the tooth?

I previously had a root canal & a crown on a tooth this year, & I have maxed out my dental insurance for the year. NOW, I have a severe tooth ache & I am suspecting that I have an abscess. This is a tooth that my dentist has previously noted as a possible root canal. Since I have used up all my dental insurance & have to pay out of my own pocket for everything, I was wondering how long I can safely go between having a root canal & having the crown. If a root canal could hold out until the New Year, then my dental insurance starts over & I won't have to pay for everything outright. If a root canal cannot hold out that long, then I need to seriously consider just having it pulled, since it would be foolish to drop $800 on a root canal & then have to have it pulled because I waited too long. I am not willing to bankrupt my family over a tooth (especially since it is one you can't see when I smile), but if a root canal can hold for a good while, I might like to save the tooth. Please help!
--------------------
Well it all depends on if the tooth is really broken down, decayed, whatnot. If that's the case its best served with a crown sooner than later, but also could totally hold out until the New Year. Once the root canal is completed the dentist can do what's called a core build-up that will restore the crown of the tooth to make it functional until you can get a permanent crown. People can get by with them for quite awhile, it just really depends. And yeah, even if you can't see this tooth when you smile its best to just keep all your teeth and not get in the habit of having them extracted!! Good luck.

Question about my teeth - question for dentist people?

I turned 22 in June. Not sure if my age matters. But anyways, I was brushing my teeth today. After I rinsed my mouth with water when I got done brushing, I noticed my gums were red. You know when you cook a steak? You know how sometimes when steak can be bloody red? Well my gums were kinda red. At the TOP of my mouth is where it was red. It wasn't red near my teeth. You have to lift my upper lip up in order to see the red. And if i pull my lower lip down yuo can see some dark red spots but my gums are not sore or anything. My mouth feels just fine. What should i do? I cancelled my 6 month cleaning appointment because i'm no longer egilible for the dental insurance that my parents had for me cause of my age. So I applied for my own dental insurnace thruogh delta dental and it doesn't go into affect until october 1st. It will cost me $90 to get a cleaning and the insurance will cover 60% if i wait till october 1st. what should i do? Just go and forget the insurance?

Can I sue my employer?

I started working in a dental office about a year and a half ago. I pay for health insurance through the company and do not have dental insurance because as stated in our employee handbook all of our dental needs are supposed to be done in house at a discounted rate of what normal insurance would come out to be. Since I have been there I have only had my teeth cleaned. No cavities done and now they have been neglected so long that one of them needs a root canal. One of my crowns fell off and that tooth cracked about three months ago. I asked several times to be fixed and everytime I have been put in the schedule I get removed for a paying customer, I have asked the office manager to take a day off to go to a dentist and am told that I can have it done in house and they could not let me have off because I am needed there and threatened to write me up. Anyone out there know anything about the law and if I have any grounds for a law suit here. Also any suggestions would be great because the only suggestions I can think of will basically cost me my job. Unfortunately at this time there arent a lot of other jobs in my area to just walk away from this one.

Is that dental agreement covered in a contract? If so, what were the terms? How long could they make you wait, how much of a discount, do you make an appointment, etc. If it was just some discussion you had, you may sue your employer, but you won't win anything. First because you haven't been paying for anything and are therefore not "damaged" at this point. Second, your employers are in no way obligated to provide dental insurance. Most cities have at least one dental network that offers a plan instead of insurance. In Denver there's a really good one that costs $76 a year and covers up to six cleanings a year, four filled cavities, free x-rays, etc. Your alleged discount probably isn't that good anyway.

how much do British citizens pay in taxes?

in the US it is lower but we have to pay for medical insurance, id say about 25% of my income would go towards medical/dental and vision insurance if i actually had insurance, i cant afford it though so i do not go to doctors or the dentist. anyway im just making comparisons tonight, i think the US is embarrassingly behind other countries, it is funny that so many people think we are the most "fortunate" people on earth. maybe some of us are but i am definitely not one of them LOL

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/it.htm Yes, the US is the only country in the industrialised world without nationalised healthcare. Profit before health - not good.

Can I use my HSA to pay for my wife's COBRA premiums?

This is a bit confusing - My wife recently left her job where we were both covered by her employer's health and dental insurance. As a result, we both moved onto the plan offered by my employer - a high deductible HSA plan. Although we intend to use our current medical plan, my employer can't offer reasonable dental insurance. Because the HSA can be used to pay for dental expenses, I'm trying to figure out if we can pay for the dental COBRA premiums out of our HSA. Anybody know? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can use HSA funds for any tax qualified premium including COBRA premiums. Here is the IRS publications regarding HSA plans: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p969.pdf

Cost of wisdom teeth removal?

I don't think my health insurance covers dental. And i had two teeth done from a dentist 6 years ago and have two wisdom left that are starting to bother me. I plan on going to the same dentist but can't remember what i paid. Without coverage and going to a dentist not oral surgeon, what should i expect to pay?
--------------------
Most dentists in this area charge between $250 and $1000 per tooth, depending on how much bone is covering the teeth still and how difficult they are to remove. Local anesthesia is usually included, but nitrous or sedation usually is not. Sometimes general dentist don't feel comfortable taking out one persons wisdom teeth, but have no problem with others. It really depends how close your nerve is to the roots. Good luck
