Is wisdom tooth extraction considered orthognathic surgery?

My health insurance covers orthognathic surgery, but I do not have a seperate dental plan. Why wisdom teeth have begun bothering me to the point that I can not eat. So for my sake can having the teeth removed fall under "orthognathic surgery"? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Yep its surgery, I just had mine removed today, Omfg it hurt, not trying to scare u, its not 2 bad untill u get home.

Probability, Can I get some help?

Ink Inc., a publishing firm, offers its 899 employees a cafeteria approach to benefits, in which employees can enroll in the benefit plan of their choice. Seven hundred thirteen employees have health insurance, 523 have dental insurance, and 489 have both health and dental insurance. A.) What is the probability p that one of the employees has either health or dental insurance? B.)What is the probability p that one of the employees has health insurance but not dental insurance?
--------------------
PART A: If you just add up the employees that have health insurance (713) and those that have dental insurance (523) you'll be double counting the people that have both (489). So you need to add 713 + 523 and subtract 489. 713 + 523 - 489 = 747 employees with either or both types of insurance. P(insurance) = 747/899 ? 83.1% PART B: There are 713 with health insurance, but of these, 489 have both. So subtract them. That will leave those with *only* health insurance. 713 - 489 = 224 employees P(health, not dental) = 224/899 ? 24.9%

Having dental work done, which do you suggest?

I need to have a lot of dental work done, and I don't have insurance. It will take about $3000 for xrays, exams, fillings, and wisdom teeth pulling just to get me to the point where I can pay at least $4000 for braces..... I have poor enamel on my teeth, and have always had major problems, in my mind it would make more sense to just pay $3000-$4000 for the wisdom teeth, and fillings, and get implants or a partial included in that cost, and then not have to shell out so much money. I am only 26, but have always had major problems with my teeth (it runs in my family-my mother has a partial). Just curious what anyone else would do, any suggestions?
--------------------
If you live near a university that has a dental school, you can volunteer to be a patient. They assess financial needs, and qualify a good patient. The student doctors are taught and watched carefully by board certified dentists, and its free for you. They need patients too. If that doesn't work for you, see if you can barter (trade services) or ask for discounts or outright help from local dentists.

When does universal health care kick in?

I need new glasses and I want to get a lot of dental work done. Also, I want a top to bottom check-up. I work full-time for a company that has 180 employees but health insurance is not offered and at minimum wage, none of us can afford a doctor.
--------------------
2014 -- but it's not universal health care. It's just insurance for most folks. Full text of health care law here: http://docs.house.gov/rules/hr4872/111_h… Questions and answers guide here: http://www.ahrq.gov/CONSUMER/insuranceqa… There is a great deal of information on the new bill here: http://healthreform.kff.org/ Health care bill calculator where you can enter the amount you make, etc.: http://healthreform.kff.org/SubsidyCalcu… ##

i've never had braces and it seems my teeth are moving?

i used to never have any gaps in my teeth but now my third tooth is slowly creatng a gap between my 2nd tooth. i'm 22 and never had braces and do not have dental insurance. is there anyway to prevent this tooth from creating an even bigger gap without expensive dental work? thanks
--------------------
No there really isn't but if you go to the orthodontist now you may only need a retainer($800) to wear while you sleep. If you wait and it continues you could need the full set braces---top and bottom ($6,000) Most Ortho's will work with you if you don't have insurance.

Personal health insurance?

Any other health insurance companies in Michigan that are good? I checked out Blue Cross. They're pricey but offer dental coverage which might be worth it. Because I got hit with some dental bills these past few years. Any websites that allow you to compare companies?
--------------------
If you're trying to compare health insurance policies, you need to sit down with a local agent. Beware health insurance "comparison quote" websites - they harvest your personal information to sell as leads.

Why would a small tooth fragment protrude where a wisdom tooth should be?

well i have about three of my wisdom tooth coming in, but the one that hasnt came through recently had a small fragment of tooth poke out( which i though was the tooth) but then i played with it a little and it fell out! i dont know what to do if this is normal or not, i also dont have dental insurance, advice would be appreciated ..thanks
--------------------
this was not a piece of tooth. it was a piece of bone. sometimes when the wisdom teeth are moving through the bone, you will get little bone shards. this is perfectly normal and nothing that you need to see a dentist about.

Does anyone know of any organizations that will help get a person dentures?

My husband has Chrons disease and was diagnosed 27 years ago. Back when he started having complications with the disease he was treated with steroids for many years. Therefore it effected his bones and teeth. His teeth are decayed to the gum. With the disease he has he needs to be able to chew his food but he has no teeth to chew with. He is disabled because of the disease so he doesn't work. I have dental insurance where I work but still can't afford to pay what the insurance won't pay. Is there help out there??
--------------------
If you're located in California, you may qualify for MediCal, and if that's the case, then the dentures should be covered by their program. If not, i would recommend going to a dental school or if possible, a dental residency program (associated with a hospital - called a GPR (General Practice Residency)) to get treatment at a low cost for your husband. Treatment does take longer than on the outside, but the quality of treatment is very good. If you get treatment through a GPR, the dental residents there and the facility are better equipped to deal with patients that have medical conditions. Hope that helps

At what age does a child need to start seeing a Dentist?

My child is going on 2 years of age, and I'm not sure if I should enroll him in my insurance dental plan already? My plan enrollment is always in November. Should I have him added already?
--------------------
I had a family plan and it didn't cost extra to have my son enrolled. I started taking him to the dentist at 2. I think it's a good idea to start them early so they learn that going to the dentist is not scary. At 2 they just check their teeth.

How to pick health insurance please!?!?!?

I just can't afford these rates of $160 a month for me and my husband, but he is getting sick alot and I thought it would be cheaper to have insurance instead of paying these doctor visits ourselves. We're relatively young, so we don't need alot, but do you know of any insurances that cover medical and dental for two that's under $100 a month?
--------------------
Is the insurance you are looking at thru your work? I pay about $30 a week for my daughter and I. My husband just got insurance thru his work and it would be $18 per week just for him. We both have Anthem BCBS. In my experience, any insurance plan you go out and buy (rather than get thru work) is always more expensive and doesn't cover as much. You always have to answer questions about your health and whether you'll be needing expensive tests ran. That can hurt your chances of being insured. Good luck. It's expensive, but it's worth it.

I was wondering if anyone could give my advice about going to USC dental school to get my dental work done?

I currently don't have insurance so I need something that is low cost. I probably need a cap over one of my molars and I probably have a few cavities as well. Does anyone know approximately how much this will cost me?
--------------------
I don't know about USC, but my dental school charged about $400 for a crown and $80 for a cavity...so about 50% off what a private practice would charge. Good luck!

Should i get my wisdomteeth removed?

I am 18 almost 19, you can see the tips of all my wisdom teeth already. I don't know if i should get them removed or not. I currently don't have dental insurance, so i should really think this through. I used to have braces so the molars are pushing my teeth and ruining $3500 worth of orthodontics. What should i do?
--------------------
If they're not certainly going to get impacted don't waste your money unless you've got good coverage. At 38 I still have mine. I was "wise" enough not to blow $2000 when the dentist showed me a FAKE x-ray of my mouth that showed teeth that were totally pushing into "my" others. That was 15 years ago.

What can i do about the pain that i feel from my tooth?

My tooth on my right side of my mouth next to my wisdom teeth hurt so bad that it bleeds on its on, and it has my ear hurting and also my throat is sore. What can i do to stop the pain until i can save up for the oral surgeon? I don't have dental insurance
--------------------
Sounds like a gum infection. Those need to be drained by a professional. If your area has 211 then dial it to find a service that might sponser you to see a dentist. If you don't have 211 then research clinics in your area!

is my wisdom tooth infected or just growing? no insurance, just making sure. help!?

my gums are hurting a LITTLE . not a ton. not where i can't bear it. it feels like...when i touch it or it hits my cheek, it feels like a popcorn cornel is stuck and it needs to get out. just a little sore. my bottom right wisdom tooth is there , growing, not all the way out but two top parts definitely poking out. it could be growing at a SLIGHT angle....i wash with mouthwash and brush and after that it feels a lot better...do i just keep doing that or could it be infected? i dont want to take it out if its not infected because i don't have dental insurance. so symptoms are: slightly irritated gums. (like food is stuck with no food there)sometimes sore to touch... gums NOT inflamed cheek close to area where tooth is growing sore when i brush it , then after brushing feels much better
--------------------
When wisdom teeth is coming out it's okay to have some soreness around the area - I'm basing this according to your sign and symptoms- Your right, my concern is that this might be coming out in an angle or it might be just coming out right since i thinked it just barely started. Best advice is to consult this with the Dentist and have them take a single x-ray. No insurance, then check with Foothill College ( or any dental students) where they have hygiene and dental assistant programs. And definitely they can give you/or adviced you with possible treatment for your concern this time.

What are the best/ cheapest private health insurance providers in wisconsin?

23 yr old male, good health medical, dental, and vision plans? Thanks!
--------------------
Best / Cheapest are opposing goals. When you are paying the premiums you want the cheapest plan you can get. But if your health falters you want the finest coverage money can buy. As everything else in life you can't have both simultaneousy. Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company. If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, optional dental and vision plans as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant. On the other hand because you are young and healthy and presumably rarely use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead. You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. That adviser can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and copays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price. Even worse, some will "pitch" a discount plan that is not even. Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

How to get insurance coverage for a gingivectomy?

I can't afford one but I really want one and think it would help my self esteem if I got one, (my reasons are mainly cosmetic), but I was wondering, is there some way to label this procedure as preventative and get my dental insurance to cover it so that I can afford to have it done?

Can someone PLEASE HELP me get an estimate, on dental work?

I havent been to a dentist in a while and I know I need a lot of work done. I just got dental Insurance through my work ,first dental health PPO but I know that I will still have to pay out of pocket. I dont have much money, so I need an estimate on how much it will cost. 2 of my permanant teeth have fallen out. I also need a cleaning, and some of my teeth to be filed down to be straight, not to mention fillings for cavaties.I know, I know I should take better care of my teeth. Please someone give me an estimate. Thanks so much!!!! Also, if you know an afordable dentist in Southern California htat would be great
--------------------
One thousand per implant, two thousand per crown, and a thousand for xrays and exam work. And an additional thousand, to two, for the cavities, but if some of the cavities need root canals, add an additional thousand for each. Good luck, a lot of dentists do offer payment plans, so, it's not all bad.

What do you know about CEREC dental technology?

I had one dentist tell me that I need 4- ¾ crowns and it's going to cost me $1562.00 I thought that was a little pricy so I went to another dentist and they told me that I only need one Onlay/Inlay and it's going to cost $342.00 They dentist that is going to charge less uses CEREC technology to make the Onlay/Inlays in the office while you wait. I've heard that this method is a little more difficult and if not done just right can cause some more problems in a couple years. With such a HUGE price difference I'm not sure if the 1st dentist is trying to rip me off or if the 2nd dentist just didn't see everything the first guy saw? They both took several x-rays and did cleanings so they both should have seen the same problem? The price quoted is after my dental insurance.
--------------------
Well, I know that CEREC is a brand of CAD/CAM machines. CAD: computer aided design CAM: computer assisted milling so basically these suckers take a digital image of your teeth and crown prep, and then design and mill a crown right there for you. I don't know that either method is more difficult, they are just different. If you feel good about the DDS who uses CEREC, you should be able to get your work done with that and it should be fine. Whatever your DDS does, he is putting something in your mouth that he wants to be proud of. He doesn't want you cursing his name every time you take a bite and your crown hurts. So whichever method/DDS you go to, you should get a great result. good luck!
