Bad Dental Crowns - multiple replacements, what to do!!?

I had 2 dental crowns done in 2006 by a highly recommended dentist that many of my friends and family were using. A year later I moved out of the area and had to visit another highly recommended dentist. She showed me the X-RAYS of the 2 crowns and I could clearly see openings with cavities underneath the crowns. I got very upset and frustrated, but had those crowns re-done because I didn't want to loose my teeth. I called my first dentist and after some negotiation he refunded my out of pocket expenses, so the new crowns were no cost to me. A year later I moved again and went to another highly reommended dentist that several people at my just have been using for over 20 years...and it turns out the SAME "new" crowns that were just re-done a year ago have openings with cavities! Insurance doesn't cover replacement sooner than in 5 years, so everything will have to come out of my pocket ($2600), not to mention the pain assosiated with crown removal and lack of trust - do I have to do it AGAIN in a year? I guess the question is, can I get my money refunded by the second dentist? I spoke with her and she is willing to fix it, however I live in a different state and multiple trips across the country to the dentist will cost me almost as much as getting them crowns re-done locally...Should I ask for a full refund? Lawyer? This situation is very frustrating... Thanks for your answers
--------------------
I would recommend getting a second opinion first. It's your cheapest option and different dentists take different approaches to each case and restorations. No Dentistnwants it to be their fault if a case fails, they may appreciate the second opinion also. Good luck.

Are there any decent student health insurance programs out there?

Because if there are, I can't find any. The one offered through my school is a joke, but my Google-fu has so far revealed that they all are. My parents don't have insurance, and in fact I've *never* had health insurance so I don't even know where to begin looking, really, but I'm tired of paying outrageous out-of-pocket expenses for urgent care center visits from time to time. I think my wisdom teeth might be coming in, so I desperately need dental coverage to go get that looked at, because there's no way I can afford it (and the likely surgery to follow). But all the student health programs I keep finding basically say that you're only covered in case of acute illnesses or injuries, not for simple things like vision and dental. I'd prefer a student health plan because the rates generally seem to be better (I'm a grad student and I don't make much money. As in, at all. Plus I'm in debt up to my eyeballs thanks to school, so cost is a big factor for me but so is at least halfway decent coverage). But am I going to have to suck it up and just get regular health insurance? I'm not covered under my job's plan, as I'm a graduate assistant and thus considered part-time, but I don't know what else to do. Advice?

Dental question?

When I was a kid, my family never had extra money for anything, and we didn't have insurance, so I never saw a dentist until I was in my mid 20's. I'm 36 now and have several missing teeth, just molars, on the top and bottom on both sides. They've rotted out years ago and eventually broke apart and fell out. But the roots are still in my gums...just the crowns of the teeth are gone. My question is, is there a type of dental bridge that a dentist could fit my mouth with to fill in the spaces where the missing teeth are, even though the roots are still deep in my gums? Or would they have to somehow pull out the roots? It really hurts to eat anything crunchy like tacos, or chips because I end up biting them with my gums, where the tooth should be and that hurts.
--------------------
No, the roots have to be removed. You wouldn't want trouble brewing under the bridge. Most of the time extracting roots like yours is relatively easy.

Will I be able to stay on my parents insurance if I take my classes online?

I graduated from a local Community College as a dental hygienist in May. I just got a full time job, but my insurance wont kick in 'til January. I am enrolled full time online to take 12 credits this Fall and just wanted to make sure online classes will still count as... full time to insurance companies. I can't see why not... but my father brought it up and I figured i'd see if anyone knew before I called the insurance company to make sure.
--------------------
What? Health, Life or Auto insurance? I'm guessing you mean health insurance. I don't think they care as long os the premium is paid to cover you. Assuming you are healthy, health insurance companies look at people like you as cash cows because you pay for services you never need, so they will want to keep you on the policy. Is your dad getting insurance from work or through a broker? Call whoever it is and find out the details. No need to be squeamish. You can't hide relevant details from the insurance company or they will use that as an excuse to withhold payment in case of a catastrophic problem.

How do I pay for dental procedures when my insurance pays for nothing?

My husband has always worked for big businesses and their insurance was always outstanding. Well at&t instead if justing firing people (which would look bad) made it impossible for everyone to make their numbers. Out of the 30 people that worked at the store and 20 had been their at least 5 yrs all lost their jobs. Well praise God someone offered my husband a job and we are so thankful, but it is a small business and the insurance is with bluecross and they are awful! I have never ever had to deal with an insurance co. that is hell bent on not paying for anything if they can help it. I was in the middle of having my mouth worked on and I have to see specialist after specialist and I find out that bcbs will not pay and these procedures are close to 2 thousand each. What do I do? I am so out of my league. Both my husband and I are very scared and I already have to deal with a new physical disability, I can't deal with this too. We have no credit cards and nobody will give us a loan and we are paying close to 400$ for insurance when we use to pay 50$. Please help.Please.

I have used the for all dentistry work because the plan is very affordable. I know for a fact that all dentistry work is included. Othordontics, braces and cosmentic surgery are included also. can a Canadian citizen get medical insurance in the US

I'm mostly wanting to know about dental insurance and if its something you have to have a SSN to purchase/use it. if anyone can suggest any companies that'd be great too. Thanks.
--------------------
Well, you don't have to be a US Citizen to get a SS number! But I haven't seen any private dental policies that pay out, more than they cost, either. And they won't cover a Canadian provider - only a US one, that's "in network". Between deductibles, coverage limitations, and waiting periods, it's probably going to cost you more to buy the policy than pay the services out of pocket.

Need health insurance plan, please advise on best option!?

I am an Asian male, 27 years old, living in Southern California and I have been without health/dental insurance for a year now since I started my restaurant. I was hoping someone could set me up with an insurance company that catered to people in my age group. I am in good health, so the insurance policy would only be for checkups, although if anyone could introduce me to a plan that had dental included, that would be great. Thanks again!
--------------------
The company that caters to your age group will be different depending upon what zip code you're in. You will need to visit a local independent agent. This person can find the best policy in your area that fits your situation and budget. The plans and premiums are the same whether you go through the agent or buy directly from a company. You may get answers here concerning medical discount cards. Be very wary of these cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of "save up to 80%" be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn't find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won't give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they're still taking the card (many don't even know that they're listed as a provider) and that they're accepting new patients. For dental a yearly exam and cleaning and even an occasional filling will be cheaper without insurance. Some companies will have dental as an option. You'll need to compare the benefits with what you need and the agent will be able to help you there.

free dental care in northwest iowa?

I live in northwest iowa. I have several cavities and no dental insurance. Any office I call wants the whole fee up front, and that is just not possible. I was wondering if there is any free clinics or low cost clinics that anyone knows about.
--------------------
Free clinics are very hard to come by, even in the big cities. Maybe a dental school, if you qualify they will give you a discount. Or I would strongly encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars. From root canals, fillings, xrays, exams..etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. Cosmetic surgery, orthodontics and even dentures are also included. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. CareCredit is another way of financing dental work. hope this helps.

Dear All, I visited a dental office after asking multiple times whether they accept my insurance. They repeatedly said "yes" but I received today a mail from my insurance company that the dentist was not their preferred provider and I am in charge of full amount of the care I got from the office. how does a deductible on an insurance policy work? is the deductible paid by the patient to the provider?

example: $1500 worth of dental services are rendered to the patient. The patient's insurance policy pays at 80%, leaving the patient a co-pay of 20%, meaning the patient pays $300 to the dental provider. If there is a $200 deductible, is that paid to the dental provider or to the insurance company? If the deductible is to be paid to the provider, does the patient then pay a total of $500 to the provider?
--------------------
In this instance, you would pay ths first $200.00 to the dentist and then the insurance company would pay 80% of the remaining $1200.00. That would be $960.00. That leaves another $240.00 for you to pay. The billing clerk or insurance specialist in the dentist's office handles this for you. Every office has one and they are very adept at working with insurance offices.

Filling fell out, Can I wait it out?

I have a filling in one of my back teeth that fell out. Right now I have no serious pain when I eat. I don't have dental insurance and I am a poor college student. I was quoted $150 for xray and a couple hundred for the filling. My question is, if I just let this go untill july, will the tooth be ok? or do I need to get it refilled right away. I am not going to have money untill this summer.

what category does braces fall under

i am looking for individual dental insurance in florida that would cover most of the cost for braces and other common services, any reccomendations?
--------------------
Braces are under the catagory of ORTHODONTICS. There are unlimited number of insurances possible, but they will all be a bit pricey, remember, in insurance, cheap means not very good. Orthodontics is an expensive type of dentisty, so insurance that covers it will be more expensive as well. The good news is, a lot of orthodontists have payment plans so you can pay for your braces a bit each month.

Are there any dentist who do work for free in the Baltimore area of Maryland?

My neighbors grandson needs dental work, He has a minimum wage job and no health insurance and he needs to have all teeth pulled. He tried Univ. Of MD dental school and that is way too expensive. Can anyone help? I am willing to help pay a little, but I am no where near the $5,000 that he was quoted at U of M dental school.
--------------------
That amount of money seems very high for the dental school with the students treating the patient. ($5,000 is close to what someone in private practice would charge for the extractions and denture). It could be that he got into the wrong department and that is the price quoted if a faculty member does the procedures. Your neighbor should try again and make sure that he gets a quote from the undergraduate student clinic. If in fact that is correct, there are usually indigent dental clinics that people qualify for. If you call the county department of health or the state board of dentistry, they should have a list of clinics that perform free or reduced fee dentistry. It is extremely nice of you to be concerned with your neighbor's grandson. Good-luck with your quest.

Should I try to save my uppers or just get dentures?

I am already missing my front two top teeth and one top one on the side. I have fillings in all of the top teeth already and now the dentist is recommending that I continue to try to save them...but I have at least 4 new cavities and that is without even looking at ex-rays. I am so tired of spending money on dental work b/c I have no insurance. He says dentures are a bad idea, but I am so tired of not wanting to smile..(even with a partial, I am to paranoid to really smile)..Just looking for advice or experiences. By the way I am only 27. Thanks.
--------------------
Well, I would suggest trying to keep your teeth. I know it gets old, but there is nothing like your own teeth. Think about trying to chew with plastic teeth! You are so young, I would do anything I could to save my teeth. Have you looked into Care Credit?? They have a 12 mo no interest payment plan if that's something you may be interested in. You can check it out at www.carecredit.com. Just some helpful advice........stay away from soda =). Between the sugar & the acid it's one of your teeths worst enemies. Good luck =)
