How much will it cost to get a chipped tooth fixed?

I had an abscessed tooth for a long time but didn't have dental or money to get it fixed. I just got dental insurance and the stupid tooth, well part of it just fell off...I guess it was decayed. So now I'm stuck with half of one tooth. How much will it cost to get this fixed?
--------------------
I hate to say this but it is going to be pretty expensive, especially if it is a front tooth. You're definitely going to need a crown on the tooth and if it is a front tooth, you'll also need the extra step of having a post built into the root shaft to support a crown. Otherwise, the tooth will break off. Insurance will help some but it won't cover the entire expense. Still, it is cheaper than to have the tooth pulled and get a bridge or an implant put there. I would say you're looking at around $1000 to get it fixed.

How much does it generally cost to go to the dentist for the basic stuff?

Keeping in mind that I understand that dentists may charge different things, I'm just trying to see how much I'd have to pay if I didn't opt for dental insurance. I usually go for a dental check up every 6 months.
--------------------
It probably depends on where you live. Generally, the prices where I live are $60-$80 for a cleaning. You should probably call dentists in your area and get price comparisons.

What is the difference between veneers and lumineers?

Are they the same thing? And I know the chances of my insurance company covering for it is very low since it will be done only for cosmetic procedures. But does anyone have any ways to at least increase the chances of the dental insurance paying for my veneers or lumineers? Thanks!
--------------------
Lumineers are brand name veneers which are made by a specific company (Den Mat). They are advertised as relatively thin veneers so that you won't have to trim down your teeth to make room for them. Other labs can also make thin veneers but Den Mat is the one company that had spent a lot of money advertising its brand. Insurance companies can pay for them if they can be justified in strengthening your teeth. If your teeth don't have a lot of fillings, insurance companies will conclude that the veneers are cosmetic.

How do I shop for the least expensive, competent dentist to have my son's wisdom teeth removed?

We have no dental insurance, so we pay cash. Our regular dentist does not do oral surgery, and the doctor he referred us to is known to be VERY expensive. . Have already tried the local dental school - frustration and failure!!
--------------------
email me if you'd like me to refer you to mine. he's top notch.

im looking for a dental school or something to get root canal done with no insurance and low income in balt.?

mother and mother to be, and dont want to spend too much on dental when i have alot of other things it could go on but i have abcess and it is painful and i need to get a root canal done and it is a side tooth and i dont want it pulled either i am only ninteen dont want to be missing any teeth yet...
--------------------
Go to any Universities near your town. Quite a few of them have students who do the work for not as much as a licensed dentist. And they should always have a licensed dentist at their side observing the whole procedure to make sure they don't do anything incorrectly.

Where Can I Get Cheap Dental Care?

I live in Illinois, Is there any dental offices around the Canton, Peoria, Springfield area that are cheap. I have no insurance. I hope that they will work with me on a payment plan of some sort. I need my teeth pulled & so does my husband.
--------------------
I would strongly encourage you to visit this great site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago when I was in college and they have saved me thousands of dollars on all dental services. From root canals, xrays, exams...etc. Even my braces. They even had my very affordable benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and hope this helps

How do I find health insurance for myself as an individual?

I am currently a sophomore in college, and I really hate student insurance, as it covers and pays for almost nothing, and doesn't include dental. Where do I go if i need to get a different provider?
--------------------
If you're not satisfied with the student insurance options available through your school, you may want to take a look at the individual health insurance plans available in your area. Your selection and the cost of the plans available will vary depending on the state in which you live, but if you're young and relatively healthy you may have some affordable options. Talk to a licensed agent that represents multiple insurance companies in your area to get the broadest view of what's available. It doesn't cost anything extra to work through an agent. If you want to take a look at your options for yourself, visit a licensed online health insurance agency like eHealthInsurance.com, where I work. Through our site, for example, you can get free quotes and compare plans side by side before applying for coverage online. We also have customer reviews for a lot of the plans we sell. You can talk with one of our licensed agents at 1-800-977-8860. One more thing – In addition to the individual and family health insurance plans available in the open market there are also "student" health insurance plans out there that are quite flexible and can be especially helpful for people who attend school and spend their summers in different states. Just something else to consider. Best of luck, Amir M, licensed agent

How can I get health insurance for my family member?

My little cousin has absolutely no health insurance, and he has never even been to the dentist. Right now, he really needs extensive dental work. Unfortunately, his parents are ill-equipped to help in this situation, and he is not old enough to get his own insurance (nor is he old enough to work). Basically, it's impossible for his parents to get insurance for him, so I want to help him myself. Since I am not his parent, and our slight age difference makes it impossible for me to pretend to be his parent, I don't see how I can put him on my insurance. He doesn't really speak to his parents, so that makes it even more difficult to coordinate anything with them. I don't make that much money, so I couldn't possibly pay for the work solely out of my pocket. Some sort of financial assistance is simply a must. What can I do to help pay for this dental work?
--------------------
I'm not sure whether you can include your cousin on your health insurance; you should call your insurance company, your state insurance office (link below), or a local insurance agent (link below) if you'd rather not talk with the company. I do know that the definition of "dependent" has changed lately regarding health insurance. Some states have extended the eligible age and others have broadened who can have dependents on their health insurance (grandparents, for example). As for financial assistance, I've included several links that might be of use. Some free clinics also provide dental services, so that would be a free or discounted option (also try searching for your county's health department. The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), offers health insurance for kids, although you might have to get the parents involved. Insure Kids Now is a Web site where you can look for state-sponsored insurance programs, many of which include dental coverage. The American Academy of Pediatrics has a resource page to help promote children's access to health care, and you might also want to try contacting the American Dental Association to see if they have any dentists that do pro bono work in your area. Hope this helps. It's touching that you want to help out your cousin. Barnes@MostChoice

Who Has Had Experience With Dental Implants?

I am curious as the cost, effectiveness, etc., etc., of dental implants - what kind of coverage did you get from insurance? Thanks in advance.
--------------------
I have place many implants in my career and even have had one done on myself. They are incredibly successful and have brought dentistry into a new era. They allow you replace a tooth without having to involve other teeth to connect it to. The allow denture wearers to have much more stability and chewing power with their denture. They are less painful that doing an extraction. The cost is about the same as a replacement with a fixed bridge. In my experience about half of the dental insurances offer any coverage. You will not be sorry if you get one. Good luck.

What's the best medical insurance for a 20 yr old?

I'm almost 20 yr and I don't have medical insurance. I want to get one because in case I have an accident I don't want to be in debt for the rest of my life. I go to college, so I don't make a lot of money. It doesn't really matter if it doesn't cover dental. I just want it to cover emergencies. Which insurance do you recomend me? I live in the United States.
--------------------
Most colleges make available some sort of health insurance for your situation. It will cover illnesses and accidents and tends to be reasonable in price. Check with the Student Services people to see if you can buy it. Also, call the state insurance commissioner and see if your state allows the sale of low income insurance that is stripped of mandates (drug and alcohol rehab, mental health counseling, etc) and who sell it

Does Medicare Australia or any dental insurances cover braces(Invisalign)?

Hi, I'm the oversea student studying in uni in Australia and thinking of getting braces preferably Invisalign, but is it qualified by any dental insurances such as Medicare? If so can I still use that though I'm not the citizen of Australia?
--------------------
Medicare does not cover Invisalign. Private health funds usually refund the same for Invisalign as for braces. Normally you have to belong to the fund in their "extras cover", for 12 months to get any refund for orthodontic treatment. This site may help you investigate other funds (but they're all there to make money - not to really cover your treatment costs!) http://www.iselect.com.au/ Cheers, Ortho85

Has anyone ever went to a Dental School?

Has anyone ever went to a school of dentistry to have thier teeth looked at? I hear they are a lot cheaper then regular dentist. My wisdom teeth are coming in and one is coming in next to a broken tooth. So I'm wondering if they wondering if they would be cheaper with my insurance I have Delta Dental PPO and they are not listed as one of the prefered dentist. I'm not worried about paying to get the bad tooth removed it only cost me $24 with my insurance. What I'm looking for is a cheaper place to get my Wisdom Teeth pulled that's even if they need to pull them.
--------------------
Well I am in dental school and work on patients. It is a lot cheaper than if you were to go to a private practice. The only downfall is if you have a lot of work to be done it takes more time. The work done is good quality though. So I would recommend you going to the school to see what needs to be done. Depending on the position of your wisdom teeth a dental student could do it, but if not it would be sent to an oral surgery resident.

What would be the consequences of trying to live without health insurance for my family?

My family health insurance is $565 per month through my employer. My family dental is about $50/month. I only make $2400 per month. After taxes and medical deducions, my take home pay is only $1600/month. Almost 25% of my gross pay goes to insurance. I've thought about cancelling medical to help us survive to make sure we have enough money to live on. What would be the consequences

How much for health insurance?

I am 23 years old & I'm fixing to graduate from college. I will no longer be covered under my parents insurance & I want to buy some. I've always had wonderful insurance with Blue Cross/Blue Shield & I'd like to have the same kind of great insurance when I purchase it after graduating. I just want dental/maternity/maybe optical/and the other basics. Ballpark, how much would insurance be on me? When I get married will it be cheaper to cover both of us? What will that price be? I'm very healthy & do not smoke.
--------------------
For good coverage maybe $800 - $1,000 a month for all you are asking. The basics maybe $500. People dont realize just how much employers (or others employers) pay a month on insurance till they have to pay it themself.

Dental work - is the quote I received reasonable?

I have two cracked teeth that are in bad condition. I just came from my dentist who x-rayed the teeth and came up with two solutions. This is what has to be done: One tooth requires a root canal, but it can be saved The other tooth has broken beneath the gum and will be extracted completely. After these two procedures, a bridge will be built between the missing teeth, and a crown made for each. The estimated cost of these procedures is $5,125.00. My insurance will only cover $1,000.00, which will leave me with a bill of $4,125.00. I have not had dental work done in about 25 years, and so I do not know what the going rates are for this kind of work. Can someone tell me if this is a reasonable cost for these procedures? Thank you.
--------------------
Wow. I went to NYU Dental School in NYC because they were the cheapest place I could find. Extractions are $90 or $100. I've had 3 taken out so far without any problems. They also charge approx. $800-1300 (possibly even less) for root canals plus crowns. This is the cost without insurance. I'm looking into bridgework but I haven't gotten the quotes yet. You're estimate sounds like a slightly high average for a private practice. I'm not surprised. I know someone that was charged $6000 for way less work than what you are having done!

handicapped laws re avaliability of dental care for quadraplegics?

Every community should have at least one dentist whose office is equipped to handle patients in electic wheelchairs who can't be4 tansferred to the regular dental chair. The entire Norfolk area doesn't have such a dentist. My son is a quad on suctioinm with rotten teeth. He has dental insurance, bu no dentist in the Norfold area can accomodate a patient in an electric chair. One that can't be transfered to the conventional denal chair without the use od a Hoya life.So hse's spent 10 years with abcesseed teeth, actute pain, and the only relief he's gotten is when he goes to the VA for his annual physical they will pull those that are aching. When about the effects of infected teeth on general health? He has dental insurance. What he needs is a dentist. Isabel Scott ilscott500@yahoo.com
--------------------
I'm a dentist. I can understand your frustration. I've encountered many situations like yours before (people unable to find a dentist willing to treat them), especially when I was doing my surgery internship. Many general dentists would send patients like your son to us to take to the operating room and remove all their rotten teeth. If I understand it correctly, your son is unable to protect his own airway. Even if he could stand up and do jumping jacks in the treatment room, I'd refuse to treat him in my office. Any dentist would do the same. What you need is a general dentist with operating room privileges (believe it or not, some general dentists do have them). That way, treatment can often be completed in one or two appointments, and it frees the doctor from having to manage your son's airway, as he will be intubated and thus have a protected airway. This aspect would be monitored by an anesthesiologist. It's more expensive, but you'll need to bite the bullet. Check with some local pediatric dentists. They often have OR privileges. If your son is too old for them to treat, they still may be able to refer you to a general dentist with OR privileges.

Do community colleges have insurance plans?

can i get medical, dental, or vision insurance for being a full time student?(have yet to enroll)
--------------------
Yes, most colleges/university have health insurance for full time student inclu on and off campus and even when you are out of country. My school have a connection with Aetna and there is a program call Chickering Group where I pay only $380 a year. It is year by year basis and you can reapply if you are still enrolling in school. But they only cover when it is an emergency or when you really sick. Not for regular physical exam or dental. Talk to your school health center, they will provide you with different options. No healthy insurance is very risky. I rather pay 400 a yr instead of paying thousands when something happen.

Wife needs Apicoectomy. Health insurance coverage?

I asked twice before with long descriptions of the procedure. If you are familiar with this, my question is: Is it considered a medical necessity to have this done? My dental insurance only covers $1000 and the procedure is supposed to be $8000. She needs it done on the 6 upper front teeth. I am hoping that my health insurance plan will cover it. She has an active infection in the bone and I feel that it is medically necessary to have this done. What are your feelings on this? I am not interested in an answer from "Biologic Dental Consultant" thank you.
--------------------
Thank you for saying that about the Bio Dental information they seem to be spreading all over here. As for your question it will need to be determined by the oral surgeon for it to be considered a medical problem and be submitted. In most cases such as your wife's, it is considered as such and the medical coverage picks it up. But I don't know the situation that has caused this and can't be positive, so you should rely on what the OS says. I don't think obtaining additional insurance will help, as this will be considered a "pre-existing condition" and most all insurance co. have a clause that covers this and disallows any claims submitted. I would suggest just filing for a "pre-determination" (if there is time) to see what and if it's covered. The office manager or insurance clerk at either the dental or Oral Surgeons office will be able, and more than happy to help you with the needed forms and they will submit everything that is required for it to be processed quickly. You just need to relax and spend time and take care of your wife, who I'm sure is very anxious over both the procedure and the expense.
