How much do you usually pay for a cavity filling in NY?

I don't have dental insurance cuz I'm not from NY and I think I have a cavity. How much do you have to pay around here (preferably Queens area)? And could you recommend good places? Thanks :)
--------------------
I pay only $60 for a white filling because of this great plan I have. I would encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands since. From fillings, root canals, xrays, exams...etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps

How can i tell if its my jawbone i feel or a wisdom tooth?

I have no pain or gum swelling back their and dont have dental insurance or enough money right now. So any. its smooth so im gunna say jawbone. What do you think
--------------------
you cannot feel the tooth unless its below the gums and outside the bone. you will feel the sharp edges and blanching (whiteness) in the gums if the tooth is there. if the area is smooth then its jaw bone.

I have some grayish stains on my gums near my front bottom row teeth?

I have no health insurance/dental insurance so I can't really go to the dentist. I am kinda worried that it could be something serious. I am a smoker but I brush my teeth twice a day though I am sure that probably does not help much. Any advice on what I can do or if low cost dental clinics exist so I can get them checked?
--------------------
if this gray-color is on your gums and not your teeth... it can be from a variety of things - from gum disease to oral cancer. I'd do one of two things if i were you (or 3 if the first 2 don't work) find a sliding scale dentist office ($20-$35) or go to a sliding scale medical doctor is they have been in your mouth/on your gums for more than 2 weeks.... same sliding scale if you search your area under sliding scale medical walk-ins. or 3 - go for a "Dental Consultation" - many many of them are FREE. Have them look at your teeth and gums, ask the dentist if he suggests any work ups, does it look like cancer, or gum disease, or just stains! Get all the freebie info you can get out of the consultation. But truly - You really Need to See a Dentist/Doctor - This is the case anytime a sore is in the mouth or ON an area of the Gums. For notice whenever we bite our lip a little or inner cheek? - those sores go away much faster than 2 weeks. So it is standard medical advice that anything Longer than 2 weeks to heal and/or looks suspicious - See a Doctor. You don't want to take any chances with this one. Even though it is probably nothing - it just might be something. So please, DO something ok? and If money is Super-Tight... Do the Consultation, walk in like you're full of money and you'll get more of their time. Sounds terrible, but your life is worth it.

College insurance question?

If im currently taking a 13 credits and i drop a 3 credit class to drop to 10, will i still keep my health/dental insurance because i attempted 13 credits which is over the required 12 for a full time student, or will i lose it because i fell under 12?
--------------------
I've never had this problem, but recently at college my friends wanted to drop a class, but they were only taking 12 credits so they couldn't withdraw or else they'd be dropped from their insurance, so they're stuck taking it :/ I would contact the insurance agency or look on their website. On my policy, it says pretty clearly that if I EVER drop below 12 credits/"full-time" status, I'll be dropped.

Racism in Orange County in the Dental Practices?

I'd visit a dental office located in Laguna Niguel www.aestheticdentaldesigns.net called the office and explained to the office personal that I was just released from the Mission Hospital ER and I was suffering from servere tooth pain and was told that I needed a root canal from the ER Physician. I asked the receptionist over the phone if the dentist specialized in root canals and the office gal put me on hold, came back to the phone and stated yes that they specialized treating patients with root canals, she went on to say, if this is an emergency that I can be seen the same day. When I arrived to the Dental office, the appearance of the office looked very exotic with a fancy construction build out something that reminded of a Star Trek movie. I'd notice the Dentist running around in the hall way making copies of documents while I was being entertained by his staff. I was called into a room 20 minutes from waiting in the lobby for X-rays. The technician asked where was I experiencing the most pain and she took X-rays of just three teeth and not the full mouth. Within 35 minutes, the second gal who was the receptionist walked into the room. Before any treatments or X-ray explanations she begins a sentence with "She did not know what I could afford?" Apprehensively , she begin explaining the findings of the X-ray taken of the three teeth, however I could not understand what she was trying to convey because of her lack of experience reading X-rays. After not understanding the receptionist I'd demanded to speak to the dentist. The dentist finally walked into the room 25 minutes later with a nasty deposition and handed me a flyer of an African American boy who died of rotten teeth. I begin asking questions about the findings of the X-rays, and the dentist responded with a nasty smirk; his actions gave an impression as if he didn't want to treat, or touch an African American. He went on to explain the X-rays, and suggested that I should seek another dentist for general treatments and recommended that I should see a dentist that specialized in root canals. I'd asked the dentist for a prescription for pain the dentist in return begins to ask allot of unusual questions as if I was a street person who was a drug user. He hesitated to write the prescriptions and stated that he doesn't get involved with giving patient prescriptions to medications. He continued to push the flyer in my face of the African American boy who died of rotten teeth because his mother could not afford dental insurance. The dentist went on to say that I would need a crown after the root canal and can be seen by any dentist! I begin asking the dentist about his fees concerning crowns, the dentist assumed because I was African American that I could not afford his dental services and printed an extra nominal fee of $2,200 per crown. His office charged me a consulting fee, close to $200 bucks for No treatment and phony Xrays.

well they sound very unprofessional and would be wise to not go back to them fools, but why would you goto an ER for tooth pain in the first place. hmm

Where can I find a dental surgeon?

I Need a dental surgeon who can work with me I do not have insurance at this time and I am in pain, I have a cracked/ broken wisdom tooth that is in severe pain... I have no insurance through my job and cannot afford to purchase insurance. Is there a place I can go in Houston TX that can help me before this gets too bad????
--------------------
The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston has a dental branch. The phone number is 713-500-4000. At a dental college you can get excellent treatment at very low cost, sometimes you only pay for materials used. All treatment is overseen by an instructor. I have used the one near my home several times before I got dental insurance. They sometimes have a pain clinic so try giving them a call.

orthodontist insurance?

I want to get braces, My teeth aren't that bad, all I have are about 3 minor gaps on my upper row, and 2 small ones on the lower teeth. I haven't been to a dentist to have a consultation or anything yet, but judging by looking at friends who have had braces, I couldn't possibly need them for over 2 years. I also don't have dental insurance, but plan to get it before I go for my first orthodontist consultation and all. I just wanted to ask people on here how much do you think I could save having dental insurance, (percentage wise), and for suggestions for a good dental insurance plan in your opinion that you've tried. And maybe an opinion, of how much without the insurance would regular metal braces would cost in total. I'd especially like to hear from those of you who has had them before and your positive or negative experience from braces, how long you've had them, what your problem was and how your felt about the final results. Thanks
--------------------
My husband had braces for over 4 years because he didn't follow the orthodontist's instructions. If your teeth aren't too bad then I wouldn't imagine you would have them on near this amount of time....just do what you are told to do with the care of them!! Insurance can be pretty pricy so make sure to do your homework to see how much will be covered and if it is worth it to take the plan. Another alternative is a dental discount card. You will pay $11.95 a month and it will provide you a discount at participating provider locations. Just make sure to verify provider participation in your area before applying. Here is a link that you can explore: http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/40491833 If this is for you then just click on Join Now and you can go to the dentist the same day.

Serious dental problem?

I am 23 years old, and a full time student who works part time. I have been without dental insurance since I was 11, because it is just too expensive. For the past few weeks, my mouth has been hurting very badly. I went to see my school nurse today, and she said I have an impacted molar coming in, and I better get to see a dentist soon, or I was in for a world of pain. She gave me a list of dentists to call, and none of them will see you unless you can pay the full amount up front. I can't do that, I am a full time student and I have rent to pay. Does anybody know of any service in Florida that will help people who cannot afford dental care? I am at my wit's end and do not know what I can do. Help!
--------------------
Hey what part of Florida are you in? I am in Melbourne. I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. You should always have your wisdom teeth taken out because when they start to come in they can cause your other teeth to shift and move because most people to not have a large enough jaw to support them. They are also so far back that it is hard for you to keep clean so that makes it easier for them to get infected. You should look into any dental schools in your area to see if they can see you. They will be alot cheaper than going to a private practice. Also look into any free clinics in your area and see what they offer. They could probably tell you who you could see if they cannot do anything for you. Good Luck and I hope that you feel better soon.

Wisdom Teeth/Biting Cheek/Extraction/Insurance?

So my wisdom teeth have been growing lately & now my lower right one is partially out and my upper right one is completely out.. I notcied that when I chew, my wisdom teeth bite my cheek and I have to be very careful not to hurt myself. I was wondering if you could have your wisdom teeth pulled for this reason alone (there's no impacted molar or anything, that I know of), and would dental insurance cover it?
--------------------
Your dentist can recommend the removal of your wisdom teeth and have the dental insurance pay for the cost without there being an impaction or infection. In your case, yes the biting of the cheek is enough to suggest they haven't erupted correctly and need to be removed. In fact, the sooner you have it done the easier it will be to do the job. The wisdom teeth do not have roots into the jawbone for the first bit after they erupt, which makes removal much more pleasant to recover from as well. They can be removed with just a local anesthetic, and not require an oral surgeon or sedation. My daughter had the same problem and had hers removed as well. The insurance paid for it. She had the teeth removed in the morning, and was out with friends at the movies that evening. She had to leave the popcorn and soda alone, but otherwise she was on full feed and did great. Just go see the dentist as soon as you can get in, and arrange for the removal. The folks in the business office can help with the insurance arrangements. Good luck, and don't worry. If they aren't infected or impacted, removal is usually not that bad.

How much will it cost to get a crown?

I'm a full-time student without dental insurance and needs some dental work done. The main thing I need is a crown, and was wondering how much I could expect to pay, and if anyone has any suggestions for looking around and trying to get a better price. Please share your experiences :)
--------------------
I was in school without insurance too and had to get a root canal which includes a crown at the end. The crown runs about $900 give or take . I got care credit (a 0% interest card you can only use for medical reasons). I paid it off fairly quick that way. Or, does your school have a dental program? They can do it for the price of materials. It'll probably run you $100-$200 that way. Crowns are fairly easy to do, so I wouldn't be too worried about having a student do it- especially since a DDS is there watching and grading making sure they do it well. Option 3: Keep the temporary crown they'll put on until you're done with school (They look great as long as you have a decent and picky assistant working with the doctor). Those can last surprisingly long sometimes. And then you can wait until you're done with school to get the permanent one seated.

benefits of a nurse practitioner and a physicians assistant?

for a project i need to know the job benefits of a nurse practitioner and a physicians assistant such as: health/dental insurance, malpractice insurance, prescription plan, pension, disability/unemployment, stock options, social security, freebies, etc. anything would help. don't refer me to wikipedia please i already looked there.
--------------------
This package of benefits is often negotiated as part of the hire package. In other cases it depends on the group or the hospital or other place of employment. Malpractice is generally always provided unless you are an independent contractor. With this type of profession there are no pat set answers, it is far too variable. In one of my PA jobs I have absolutely no benefits at all except they pay my license fees, malpractice is included with the rest of the group, and provide me housing (I go for the summer). I also can use their lab for free, their exam stuff, their radiology dept , for my own personal exam (and whatever drugs they stock) etc. In another PA job they pay my malpractice, CPR, ACLS training but that's all. Since its a large HMO, I get prescriptions cheap, but don't have a plan--I just get to pay at a reduced rate. I have no medical insurance but can usually get a "curbside: consult if I don't feel well. Other jobs I have had I have been an independent contractor with nothing, except again, being included in the malpractice of the group (that's pretty typical).

Why does my tooth implant hurt when I bite down on it?

It is 2 1/2 years old and I guess it always has hurt a little and maybe it's getting a bit worse when I bite directly down on it with anything remotely hard. It's not excruciating, but uncomfortable enough that I favor it a bit. I don't have dental insurance and I didn't really like the guy who put it in. Shoulld I just live with it? Is it normal to hurt a bit? Did he put it too close to the nerve?
--------------------
Implants can always become sensitive but it has been a long time and should have settled. Maybe it has a crack somewhere which can hurt and cause the implant to hurt or it may be a little high and need to be reduced down a bit see your local dentist as soon as you can as you shouldnt be in pain

Should my 17 year old daughter have a tooth pulled?

My daughter has a cavity in one of her upper back teeth. I have 2 options for her. She either gets it extracted or a root canal. The problem is she doesn't have dental insurance. So I can either pay a very minimal cost for the extraction or go for the root canal and save the tooth at almost 1900.00. Will it cause a problem to have this tooth missing at her age? And the empty space will not be visible when she smiles.
--------------------
I'd do what no. 1 said and seek out a dental school--they have clinics where they offer low cost or no cost dental care. I myself would opt for the root canal... but hell I've spent three thousand dollars on my 6 year old daughter's PRIMARY teeth this past year and we HAVE dental insurance! I wouldn't mess around with my child's health...teeth are part of your over all health... it's not like it is something truly replaceable... you gotta care for your body and all it's parts. (She is afraid of the dentist and wouldn't let our regular dentist work on her...so things got worse...I had to find a pediatric dentist that uses "laughing gas" which is quite costly--and it took 6 sessions to get her problems resolved--including two extractions of primary teeth and then a retainer to hold the space until her secondary teeth come in.) I understand your reasoning here that its a big expense and who is going to see the tooth---but that tooth has a purpose... I do think it is ridiculous that these procedures cost so much money. Dental insurance really stinks--I'll tell you that! I covers next to nothing except cleanings and xrays!

average cost of dental implants?

why dental insurance will not pay for dental implants? why it cost alot?
--------------------
Your insurance company will not pay for implants. It's considered "cosmetic". I live in Maine, and I can quote you what my dentist charges for implants. I spend a lot of time in there looking around and bothering people, so I am pretty up-to-date on his fees. Plus, lately, I have this tooth fetish. Whatever. Anyway, first you need the tooth extracted - $150. Maybe you have done that bit already. Next, they implant the post - $1250. A titanium piece is inserted into the jawbone, and during a process called "osseointegration" the bone grows around the post and holds it firmly in place, just like the root of a tooth. This takes upwards of 2-3 months, sometimes as much as 6 months. They put a healing abutment over the screwhole - the details on that are sketchy at the moment. I need to read more about that part. I think it helps keep food particles out and encourages the gums to heal in a prooper shape. After the post is set, a crown is put on - $1250. C'est fini! Your local dentist's prices may differ. It's expensive because it's a long process, there is oral surgery involved, and healthcare of any sort in the US is astronomical. My sister is getting an implant soon, and she got a loan through CareCredit. Ask if your dentist offers that. It is hard to suddenly come up with $2500, but if it's spread out over a year it is more manageable. Just be sure you can pay it off in one year! Perhaps get approved for half at a time, to keep the debt manageable.

Dental screening on Thursday...reasonable cost and point of being weighed?

I made an appointment to have a dental screening (x-rays and a general evaluation) Thursday. It will be $94. I chose a university, because I believe those are cheaper than private practices. Is this cheap? It still sounds like a lot. Also, if I do in fact have cavities, I will have to get a second job and attend school...do you think I would be better off paying for dental insurance and then getting the dental work? I did a search on this forum and was shocked by the prices. I'm a college student, and I'm paying for this on my own...how long can I wait and still be okay (just so I can make a little more money)? Also, I remember when I got braces as a young teenager, they weighed me. What is the point of being weighed? I don't really see a connection with my weight and dental health. Was that only relevant to my orthodontic work, or will it also be required for a regular screening? I'm hoping it won't be necessary. Thanks in advance.
--------------------
Weight may have been a factor in determining your stage of growth. Orthodontics is all about trying to work WITH growth and development to GUIDE your teeth where they need to go. Timing is everything. We used to weigh patients as part of their general medical evaluation when they were processed in as new patients in dental school, but the last time I weighed a patient was 1975. I have not missed that data either. I've got scales in my eyes that are accurate enough for my purposes. I'm not an orthodontist, though. As far as the fee: I think $94 is cheaper than you could have x-rays and an exam in most private office, but I'm not impressed that it's all that cheap. Dental schools are not the bargain basements that they used to be as universities are holding them more accountable for their income. Some schools have actually closed because they were not able to raise clinic fees high enough to pay their own operating expenses and the universities cut them off. At $94, if you factor in the 3 hours or so that it will take for the procedure, you might think it's cheaper in the "real world." Now, if that includes a cleaning, it's a bargain. An exam only and panoramic x-ray in my office would total $125. A very detailed evaluation (perio charting) and x-ray would be $155. You decide.

I was recently laid off. Should I use my remaining medical insurance to get braces?

My medical insurance will end at the end of the month. And the dental covers 1500$ of braces. I could get this now, but I'd have to put another 1500 of my own money to pay the full 4500-5000 for braces. Should I get this now? or wait til I get a new job?

Is it possible for a person on workman's comp to get dental coverage from the Carrier?

I also would appreciate it if someone out there can also answer this other question: I have recently moved from New York to Pennslyvania, and finding a doctor to continue treatment has been difficult. Thus, I have been traveling to and from the doctor's in NY. to continue treatment as well as benefits. My question is it possible to have the carrier pay for a rental because my car will not last if I drive back and forth for once a month. Please help me out!
--------------------
Workers' Comp insurance is for injuries that you sustain from an accident while working or traveling to and from your job. If the injuries sustain effected you dental work, then possibly yes, if the injury was soft tissue to another part of your body, then no. With regards to your car, if your car was damaged within the scope of your employment, you would have to check with your auto insurance carrier to ascertain coverage for a rental. If you receive a settlement from your Workers' Comp Claim, you can use the money any way you please.

If you are looking for a dental insurance that pays 100% of the bill the premium will be expensive. If you are looking for a dental plan that includes all treatments I would look at a plan called dental plus. This plan can save you a lot of money because its affordable and includes all treatments.

Can I add Dental coverage to my COBRA plan?

I as laid off in mid February (a little over 4 months ago). At the time I only chose to have COBRA for health insurance. I never thought I'd still be out of work when it came time for dental checkups, but that time is now coming up. So can I change my COBRA plan to now include dental coverage, or is it too late?
--------------------
Unfortunately, the answer is NO. However, you do have options, if you were to visit www.marcosvicentefinancial.com and click on the Health Care page, scroll down until you see Madison Dental, you can get a few quotes and compare your choice of programs -- and apply right online. If you are strapped for money (within your budget) you can scroll back up until you see CAREington Dental and that is a discount plan for about $12 per month (for the entire house hold). A lot of times actual Dental coverage plans are not worth the premiums; annual limitations, annual deductibles, 6 months to a year long waiting periods, monthly premiums, coinsurance percentages, & copays per visit !!! Besides, most of the time... "cash is king" at the dentist office and in the long run you'll be better off putting all that coin in your pocket and only spending when you actually need to go in for a cleaning or have work done. No Insurance..I need relief of toothache such as root canal.Im going to the hospital, can they not admit me?

I went once before to the dental clinic in the hospital, they took me in. I havent paid the hospital bill. I am in alot of pain and would like something to be done whether its an extraction or root canal..Can they say no and leave me in pain because I have no insurance or because i havent paid? I live in the state of New York. Thanks!

In New York, emergency care is required to be provided regardless of your economic status. A toothache may or may not qualify under that statute. However, it has been my experience that they will treat you.

Does Tricare Dental cover dental implants? ?

I recently got married to my wife who's in the Navy. I'm wanting to get dental implants, but my current dental insurance doesn't cover them at all since it's 'Cosmetic.' I've been looking/reading around, and on the Tricare site it said they only cover 1200 annually? If so/not how much do they cover if any for dental implants?

Nope...in fact there are very few insurance companies that are presently covering implants. Good Luck

I have a denplan extensive cover, can I go abroad for treatment?

I could receive the same treatment in Germany for one third of the UK price...would I need to pay it myself or would I be able to recover it from my dental insurance co thanks.
--------------------
It should tell you on your policy terms and conditions. If it doesn't then contact them, if the answer is 'yes' then get them to confirm it in writing. If the answer is 'no' then ring again and make sure you get the same answer before giving up! Even if you think you are covered on reading your policy I would contact them before embarking on any treatment overseas.

should i quit my job to be a restaurant server?

depends on how good your current benefits are and how much/often you need them ... good medical coverage can be pricey ... you should get some quotes for independent coverage to compare the cost savings. My work takes my benefits out after tax, is that legal?

I recently signed up for medical/dental insurance through work. My benefits are taken out AFTER taxes. I contacted the benefits department and they say its because the IRS doesn't recognize domestic partners as dependents. My parnter had me on his benefits at American Airlines and he had the benefits taken out pre tax, so is FedEx breaking the law or are am I looking at Sexual Discrimination?

Regardless of your domestic situation, companies have the option of taking benefits out either pre-tax or after tax. In order to withhold benefits pre-tax, the company has to set up a Section 125 plan.

What is Patient's Financial Responsibility When Insurance Company Adjusts Claims?

My dental insurance company processed a claim by my dentist and denied it because of their contractual agreement with the provider that any fillings re-worked within 2 years are not the patient's responsibility. The provider's benefit statement regarding this service states, "The amounts shown as payable by you and by Delta Dental are in accordance with the terms of your dental plan and the terms of our agreement with your dental provider." The benefits statement shows my 80% benefit level for this service. The insurance company is not saying that I am ineligible for the benefit. Rather, they are saying that the dentist is not eligible to be paid for this service (by either the insurance company or me) based on his contract with Delta Dental and the benefits to be provided by Delta Dental and paid by the customer. The benefits statements includes notes explaining why the claim was denied. The underlying question is: "What is the patient's responsibility when the insurance provider says it is zero in accordance with the insurance agreements that all parties are abiding by?" Said differently, "Is the insurance company the final arbiter of amounts owed by the patient?" Does the insurance agreement prevail? Or does the doctor truly have the right to demand payment for amounts that the insurance company says the patient does not owe? I realize the patient is responsible for co-pays and deductibles. But I am pretty convinced that if the insurance company is denying the claim and also stating the patient has no responsibility, then the patient truly has no responsibility until and unless the provider gets the claim processed differently. The provider agreed to be bound by insurance processing when he agreed to accept this provider and its terms and benefits. Insurance companies routinely adjust the "submitted fee" downward to the "accepted/contractual" fee and providers routinely accept those adjustments (and that is one of the reasons we have this complex insurance system: to adjust charges to reasonable levels and protect patients. We pay tons of premiums for this benefit). It makes no sense to then claim the patient owes other amounts that the insurance company says the patient does not owe.
--------------------
the insurance company is NOT saying you dont owe. they are just saying they won't pay.

what are good at home remedies for gingivitis?

You're really irritating your gums by rinsing with these things. Try warm salt water its the best thing for your mouth, speeds up healing. make sure you keep the teeth very clean, brush 2x/day at least two minutes, floss 1x/day. It should clear up in about one week.

Self Employed....Health Insurance???

Am looking for health/dental insurance for my family in Colorado. My husband also has a kid in Florida and one in New York he has to have covered. We opened our own business and are looking for him to quit his job within the next 6 months. Any suggestions??
--------------------
Contact a local independent agent. This person can sell for most of the plans in your area and can find the best plan for your current situation. They don't charge you anything for the service. Do not try to do this over the internet unless you have several days to compare the hundreds of plans available. You will probably need separate plans for each kid because plans are different in different states. The local agent will be able to guide you there as well. You may get offers here from people trying to sell medical discount cards. Be very wary of them. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of "save up to 80%" be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. One state couldn't find any doctors in that state that took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won't give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they're still taking the card (many don't even know that they're listed as a provider) and that they're accepting new patients.

Health Insurance for 18 yr. old?

I'm an 18 yr. old girl and I need to know how to get Health Insurance in New Jersey. I don't qualified for Medicaid and I don't know how to go about getting Health or Dental Insurance.
--------------------
I work for a company that offers medical and dental health plans. Our plans are different from insurance because we are a discount plan and therefore there is no deductible, no co-pay and no preexisting conditions. Also we offer either individual or household plans and our household plans cover everyone that is under one roof even if they are not related (so you and your boyfriend could both be covered under the same plan). The medical plan includes the dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic care plan. If you would like more information on the plans you can visit the following site: http:www.mybenefitsplus.com/mlein

How long can a person take an antibiotic b4 they become immune to it?

Clindamycin 300 mg. to be specific. (trying to nurse a tooth that lost a medicated filling as long as possible to save up to have pulled. Started pills 2day. Can get it pulled in July. No dental insurance.)
--------------------
Average courses of Clindamycin last from 5 days to 10 days. The longest time mentioned is for a severe lung infection "which may take as long as 2 to 4 months." So it's use is possible for the length of time you mention. You really need professional advice as this is a drug for serious infections (including soft tissue - dental), in those cases a 5 - 10 day course would usually be adequate. I hope a pharmacist sees your question, can't you ask the person who prescribed Clindamycin for you? There is information on the links and read the leaflet in your pack/s, read side effects, interactions and contraindications. Whatever you do, or take, I hope the antibiotics work. Trouble with teeth is a nental and physical pain.

i need the best site for health insurance for a small business?

the insurance will be for 3 employees and needs to include dental and vision insurance
--------------------
I think the best way is to do some research on your own and then get in touch with local health insurance agents or brokers. I say more than one because talking with more agents will give you more ideas, see more health plan products, and – most importantly – get several different insurance agents competing two earn your business. Many people don't realize it, but insurance plans aren't any cheaper online than they are through an agent. When I've looked at small business matters, The National Associated for the Self-Employed (see link below) had some good information. They have a health care Web site with some good information as well (also below). Also, some states have group-purchasing pools for small business and the self-employed. Depending on the kind of business you're in, there may be a trade association you can join and get group health insurance through them. After you've done some researching, try visiting MostChoice.com. I'm a writer for them, and they have a simple approach to shopping for health insurance. You fill out a short form, they send you information on health plans available in your state, and local state-licensed insurance agents contact you within 48 hours to talk about what you're company needs in a group health plan. It's free and you're not required to buy anything from the agents who contact you. Just wait until one of them delivers an insurance solution that makes sense for you and your company. You can visit MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insuran… Hope this helps, Barnes @ MostChoice.

How can I relieve chronic toothaches?

I currently am in need of two back-tooth root canals, one on either side of my mouth, but can't dish up the $600 [each]; dental insurance won't cover it either. I haven't used the right side of my mouth to chew for a year now, but the left side has recently been giving me terrible, fleeting pains. The pain has woken me up for the past three days now, and ibuprofen isn't working as well as I'd hoped. How can I relieve the pain in my tooth? Thanks in advance.
--------------------
my dad had this problem and he would break a tylenol in several pieces and stick it down into the hole until he had it fixed. I have also heard a few drops of vanilla, clove oil or wheat grass all are supposed to take the pain away for a while You cant work out a payment plan with your dentist?? The longer you wait the more its going to cost in the long run.

what is the likelihood of me finding a dentist with compassion?

my point is, after finally getting dental insurance (8 years without it) i need to see a dentist terribly and i do not have the finances to cover the 20% that would be my part of the copay. are there dentists out there that are able to see a patient without a copay or would they get in trouble by waving the copay? i live paycheck to paycheck but teeth are something you can't neglect.
--------------------
There are dentists who offer those long term plans like what Capital One sells. If you sign up for that they will tell you how much you need to pay each month (for a year or so) to cover your part of the expense. It does not go on your regular credit card and evidently they do not report it to credit bureaus so your existing credit line is untouched. If you want low cost compassion see if there is a dental school in your area. They usually have a clinic where senior students (under supervision of a licensed dentist) will do the work for free or for negligible cost. Forsythe in the Boston area does that for example.

is using baking soda and peroxide to white teeth going to take off the enamel?

I don't have dental insurance to go to the dentists office, but would really love whiter teeth. I heard brushing with baking soda and peroxide really works, but does it do harm to teeth with cavities, or take the enamel off?
--------------------
NO, we reccomend this in our office all the time, and NO one has EVER had a problem, brushing 2-3 times a day is all and you can alter this formula with your regular toothpaste. Get a bottle of: Hydrogen Peroxide 3% (H2O2)- Use fresh product and a Box of Baking Soda (any brand is fine) Wet toothbrush with Hydrogen Peroxide then dip in the baking soda, a paste will form on the brush…brush as shown, focusing on the gum line using a gentle, massaging circular motion. Brush all tooth surfaces, and tongue. . For oral use, you can dilute the 3% hydrogen peroxide with up to 10 parts water. Adjust dilution to your taste Rinse the mouth well when you are done Baking soda has the effect of increasing alkalinity in the mouth, thereby neutralizing acids produced by the bacteria responsible for plaque and tooth decay. Baking soda is also a mild abrasive and whitens teeth. Hydrogen peroxide is alkaline and bubbles and foams as it destroys the bacteria. It also cleans the tongue Alternate this formula with your regular toothpaste. Not for use by those with High Blood pressure or salt-restricted diet.

You should get an anterior open bite fixed with a combination of dental orthodontics to line up your teeth, and with jaw corrction surgery to get your jaws properly aligned so that your front teeth can normally overlap, allowing you to bite into things. How to I waive an over charge claim from my dentist?

We went to a dentist who said they would accept our dental insurance. After we had our evaluations (since it was 2 years since our last appt. because we didn't have insurance, and can't afford dentistry without insurance) and 1 cleaning, we now have a charge of over $100, after our insurance paid their 100%. My husband still needs his teeth cleaned. We can't afford the bill, and want the dentist to waive it for us. Is there any information, or legal info about dentists can't charge more than what the insurance is paying them, if the insurance company is paying 100%? Please help!
--------------------
If they are a participating provider they are required to provide service at the rate they are contracted at. However, if they are not a contracted, participating provider, the insurance company pays a set amount and if the doctor's fees are higher than the amount the insurance company is willing to pay you are responsible for the difference. The best thing you can do is speak with the dentist. Most insurance companies will pay for one eval and one cleaning every year, some will pay every 6 months. That is per person. Again though if you are not seeing a participating provider then they can charge whatever their fee is and your insurance may not pay the whole thing.

I'm a college student who just recently got dental insurance, and I need braces. What steps would I have to go through to get them. Should I contact the orthodontist first, or go to a random dentist or what? Thanks in advance!

That depends on your insurance. So first check with your insurance to see if you need to be referred to an orthodontist by a regular dentist first. If yes, you will need to find a good dentist in your area, ask your friends and family for a good one. If you don't need a referral, then again, ask around to friends and family to find a good orthodontist. Good Luck

Call the insurance company and let them know they received a claim from a person who is no longer insured under that policy. Dentists are not generally going to allow you to make payments unless it's a procedure such as a bridge that is going to take more than one visit to complete. Then they will expect you to just have your part paid in full by the time the bridge is actually seated in your mouth. Good luck in your quest to find one that will accept payments, but don't get your hopes up.

How should I care for my toddler's bottle tooth decay until we can get to a dentist?

We had a fairly casual oral hygeine routine for my 22-month old until recently we noticed bad breath and more plaque buildup (we assumed it was due to changing diet). After beginning a more aggressive brushing routine, we noticed the top half of his upper front teeth have moderate decay. (The rest of his teeth are spotless :( ) Our dental insurance kicks in in two weeks, and I have two questions: given that we are now taking scrupulous care of his teeth, will it advance quickly enough that we should run him to a dentist RIGHT NOW and deal with the debt, or will it hold steady? And two, can I cause more damage to his teeth through incautious cleaning until they are repaired? Please, I'm begging anyone with dental training to help me.
--------------------
you said the insurance kicks in in four weeks and you are taking good care now of his teeth and he is NOT in pain. if it were my child i would wait. 4 weeks in this case is not probably going to change the outcome UNLESS you see visible swelling or the child has pain.

You need a plan with no waiting periods so things don't get worse, and a plan with no limits because you have extensive work to be done. My first choice is eHealthPlus and if that doesn't work for you, one of the Dental Plans.com.

Does anyone know of any good financing programs for Orthodontist?

Hi I recently had a orthodontist consultation. I have dental insurance but my insurance does not cover braces. Does anyone know of a good financing company that I can use with low monthly payments even if I only have fair credit? Or does your credit rating even matter. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
--------------------
Hello. I do know that Ameriplan does cover braces. They are an excellent discounted Dental Plan that gives you Vision, Chiropractic Care, & Prescription for free with their Dental Plan. They will cover about 50% or better on your braces. Only $14.95 a month. Hope this has helped. Go to www.urdentalmed.com

Delta Dental PPO Preferred?

My husband's new dental insurance plan is Delta Dental PPO (preferred) we are in NJ and i was wondering if anyone is familiar with this type of insurance plan? I used to have Horizon so I am just wondering if anyone that has Delta Dental can help me ou with some experienced information! Thanks!
--------------------
I have had Delta foever and I was fortuneate enough to get it with my current employer. The coverage is simple and you can easily find out how much you owe or whats covered before any work is done. DPO is better than DHMO since you can go to better higher end dentists than the cheapo limited dentists that you can go to with the DHMO. I hope it helped. Try going to the benefits person at work and get a print out on whats covered, everything is listed very specifically.

How can I get my gums to stop bleeding?

About a month and a half ago, I had a crown and 2 cavities filled. Since then, I have lost my dental insurance. Over the past 3-4 weeks, my gums have been bleeding. It seems to be getting worse. Everytime I brush my teeth there is blood in the sink. I'm getting a little worried but I don't have the money to go back to my dentist right now without the insurance. Is there any thing I can do or try to help with the bleeding?
--------------------
Floss your teeth daily! Bleeding gums are often a sign that you don't floss enough. Plaque builds up between the teeth and causes inflammation that causes bleeding. Did you know that research shows that if you regularly floss your teeth, it can increase your life by 6 years! The inflammation from your gums can go to your heart and other arteries and cause inflammation there also.

Does the self whitening kits for your teeth work?

I have no dental insurance, not a smoker, but do love coca-cola. I have had some dental work done when I was young and have damage to my jaw-line but would love to have a whiter smile any suggestions on what could improve my smile.
--------------------
The problem with the self whitening kits is the mouth trays. They aren't custom molded to your teeth so you have a chance that the bleach will not be on some spots or all your teeth. The bleach you buy on amazon or ebay generally doesn't have the same strength as professional bleach does. You can however buy the syringes on the internet that do offer the same bleach amount and sometimes you can buy exactly what the dentist would sell you. The white strips are very popular and I have heard they work also. They won't give you the results a professional would give you. If you do end up going to the dentist for bleaching you can get the trays and bleach for about $250.00 so not too expensive.

Discount Dental in Southern California?

Do anyone know of a place that provide extremely discount dental work. I live paycheck to paycheck, very low income no dental insurance I was told I need around $1,800 worth of dental work to save my teeth (gum diese)
--------------------
Ok, here is your best bet. First off can you apply for financing? Most dental offices will offer some type of financing. That is where you want to start. Now...instead of financing the whole $1800, we can reduce that by using this new product called DentaCard (www.dentacard.com) , it's going to hopefully reduce that $1800 by 20-50%, then once you've reduced it you'll use your financing on the rest. Check out their website it's pretty straight forward and you can even search for dentists in your area! Ok, if you can't apply for financing your best bet is still to use the DentaCard, I think it's only $49 or something, and it will still reduce your bill 20-50% then you can work out a payment plan with the dental office. Hope this helps my friend!

How do you research review Dentists in your area?

I've got Cigna Dental Insurance with my company and I'm trying to find a good dentist in my area. San Jose / Fremont , CA area to be exact. Anybody know of any websites I can go to to research review Dentists?
--------------------
This is a tough one. What you have to do is ASK several co-workers who have the same insurance plan that you have who they see as a dentist. I mean, ask at least 20 people. After you've asked 20, you will probably see several different names, but one will come up ten times. This is who you want to go to.

How much will it cost to get 2 root canal treatments?

I have dental insurance but with only a $1000 maximum cap. Should this be sufficient to cover 2 root canal surgeries? The teeth in question are #13 and #30.
--------------------
It depends on where you live & the dental office that you go to. Here in Kansas for these two root canals, I'd expect it to be around $1500- $2000. You will also NEED to get crowns done on these teeth!!! I've seen so many times where a patient gets a root canal done & doesn't have the crown done & a year or two down the road the break it & the tooth has to be taken out. Wouldn't that be a waste of $$? Hope this answers your questions. Good luck!

Is it safe to wait 5 months to pull out a partially grown wisdom tooth?

My wisdom tooth on my lower left jaw has been growing out. and it hurts ALOT- most likely an impacted tooth. Problem is that i don't not have dental insurance this year and i would have to wait 5 months. is it safe to wait until 2009 or should i pay out of pocket now?

Should I do what my dentist says and go into years of debt, or should I find a different dentist?

My dentist wants me to spend thousands of dollars on six crowns and one implant. He wants me to save money to do one per year and won't listen to my excuses that I can't save that much money that fast. Since they are considered cosmetic procedures, my dental insurance doesn't cover any of it. He keeps "bugging" me about it every six months I get my teeth cleaned.
--------------------
Definately get a 2nd opinion! I had to have a bridge made for my bottom 4 front teeth.I wanted a partial, that I could put in and take out.(I call them hockey teeth). My dentist at the time(5 yrs ago) said,"no,thats not a good idea, but cementing this bridge in will last for 20 yrs or more" Well, the bridge fell out this past summer, messed up about 3 more teeth, and I had to get another bridge made.Difference is, a better dentist, had a partial made, and put me on a dental plan. Your dentist reminds me of my first one, only wanting the $$$ ! Good luck.....Altho it cost me another $1200(after insurance),I am much happier!

My dentist said because I'm poor I have to have the toxic type of dental fillings?

He said since I have the type of insurance that disabled people have that my insurance only allowed 50% mercury fillings and I couldn't get the non-mercury ones. After pleading with him and arguing with his mean dental assistant lady for awhile he finally gave in and gave me the non-mercury one anyway, which was really nice. But it made me feel like I was living in the middle ages caste system and I was one of the peasants.
--------------------
humm.... this doesnt make any sense. but... the only thing i can figure is that your insurance said that they would only pay for amalgam (silver) fillings and not cover the "white" ones. the doctor has to go by the insurance since that is who is paying him. they dictate to him what his prices are and if you arent covered by it and want it then you are paying full price for it. that is nice of your dentist, EXTREMELY nice since he just paid for your filling! it sucks but that is insurance for you. try looking into another one or going to a dental school to get your work done. its not really your dentist saying that but the insurance saying that.

How do I tell if my loose tooth is a baby or adult tooth?

I'm 15, soon to be 16, and my top right kanine tooth is loose. I don't remember it happening, or when it happened, but I have a small chip taken out of the bottom of it. I tried to leave it alon but it's just getting looser. I thought if it was a baby it would have come out by now. It's been a couple months. We don't have dental insurance and I'm really worried, please help?

Can a dentist help my periodontitis?

I have periodontal disease. I've never gone to a dentist because my family has never had dental insurance, along with the usual feelings of fear and embarrassment. My gums have receded and I've tried to keep the disease from getting worse by brushing all the time and using Listerine. I called a periodontist's office, but he's booked until June. I'm scared to wait that long. The lady told me to go to a dentist, but I know that my problem is more so for a periodontist and not a regular dentist. I know I will probably have to have root planning and scaling. Will going to a dentist be even worth it? I'm scared to wait any longer, but I need to go to a periodontist, but all of them in my area seem to be booked up for at least a few months. I know it's not at the beginning. I guess it's moderate to severe. My teeth don't seem loose or anything like that, but I'm still scared out of my mind, especially since I can't seem to get to a periodontist soon.
--------------------
seek out a dental clinic in your area. some hospitals have them. or u can go to a dental college. they go by what u can afford, u may be able to pay nothing. a periodontist would help. to keep from losing your teeth, everyday take vitamin c and calcium w/ vit. d. luck to u.

At what point should a wisdom tooth be removed?

I know not everyone needs to have them removed. I am asking because i have been noticing one of mine coming in. I would say its been like this for at least 3 months. It doesn't really hurt that bad, but my mouth is sore for a day or two and then it goes away. I would like to know how important it is to get it removed. I don't have dental insurance right now and I am worried this tooth is going to cost me a lot of money i dont have. :(
--------------------
Some people can keep their wisdom teeth, but it depends on the effect they are having on the rest of your mouth. So what i suggest is go to the dentist for an evaluation. Although most general dentists do not extract wisdom teeth (some can but most don't), they can probably tell you whether or not you have to get them removed. A lot of dentists will have a free consultation or exam and i would try that. one that is free is at aspen dental ( for the coupon go to http://www.aspendental.com/coupons/freee… ) But if you are told you have to get them out don't fret. Insurance generally takes a while and wont cover pre-existing conditions, but you would be eligible for a discount dental plan. The difference between those and traditional insurance is that they start immediately, they cover pre-existing conditions, they a cheap to get some are just 6.95 per month, and they work for major procedures. And from the situation that you have described that sounds like a good fit for you. The plan I personally recommend is at www.1Dental.com. Its the cheapest to get started right away. But another plan you can check is the Aetna Dental Access Plan. But again. get a consultation/exam, because if you do need to get them removed and you wait, it will just cause more problems that are more expensive. Hope that helps.

How can I strengthen my teeth?

I'm 25 years old and am not sure that the "drink milk" solution will still work at my age. Also, I don't have dental insurance so going to the dentist for procedures isn't really an option. I'm just looking for practical, inexpensive solutions to get my teeth back on track.

Have you personally had braces after the age of 30? How long did you wear them? Can you tell a huge differen

Can you tell a difference? I'm hoping that by age 32 I will financially be able to FINALLY afford braces. My teeth are not too bad but they are a little crowded. My mother is wanting me to have veneers put on and has offered to pay $4200. She thinks my teeth are also yellow. I'm think a better idea would be to get braces and pay for the in-office whitening. My dental insurance will not pay for either option.
--------------------
I am 51 years old and I have braces. It's something I always wanted to do as an adult and I finally did it. My braces come off this month after 20 months of treatment. Yes, there is a huge difference. My braces were close to $4,500 and I pay $200 per month. Don't put it off any longer. I would go with braces and in-home whitening. My orthodontist's office recommended the Crest Premium Whitening method. Good luck.

Dental question!?

Does anyone know how much would it cost to get the "invisalign" (not sure about spelling)? Is it covered by your dental insurance? Ans also, if the insurance does not cover it, do many dentists accept a payment plan? Any insight and help would be appreciated.
--------------------
I work in a dental office and we offer invisalign. I am also wearing invisalign. If your insurance plan covers orthodontics, most likely they will cover invisalign. We offer 2 types depending on length of treatment. There is Invisalign Express which is $3000, and there is the traditional Invisalign which is $4995. This is very similar to the cost of traditional ortho. Most dental offices will offer an outside lender to finance a payment plan. You can go to the invisalign website to find a certified dentist in your area.

How much does a tooth crown cost WITH insurance?

i have insurance cigna ppo i think; it also covers dental. my dentist says i need a crown on my bottom right molar how much does it cost on average with a good dental plan, i think mines is good whats considered good i think its like 80% coverage but i'm not sure if it's for crowns too
--------------------
the charge for a crown in my office is $1,000. IF you have 80% coverage you will have to pay $200 plus your deductable (usually $50 yearly) However I have found that most insurances consider crowns to be "major" work and only cover 50%. You can check with the insurance company directly or have your dentist send in a pretreatment authorization., then you will know exactly what your out of pocket expense will be.

Very concerned about blackening around roots of teeth?

there is a limit to what ayurvedic treatments can do. You should buy insurance for more severe diseases which ayurvedic treatments cant cure. Or otherwise you have to pay a higher premium. Its better to acquire ayurvedic treatment out of pocket. than via insurance

My teeth are literally falling out! How can you get dental work done w/ no insurance and very little money?

Ok, I'm really hoping someone can help me with this one. To start, I haven't been to a dentist since I was like 18 and i'm 25 now. I've been through multiple pregnancy's which as you know affects your teeth tremendously b/c it takes out calcium. I can hardly eat most foods b/c I'm mostly in pain everyday and also scared of my teeth chipping more or worse falling out. I haven't been since 18 b/c that's when my insurance stopped. This is really affecting my everyday life and I'm afraid for my health b/c bad teeth can cause heart attacks and stroke. And not to mention is doing a number on my self esteem, I'm scared to smile. I'm pretty sure that i'll just have to get all of them extracted and get dentures, but when I look into it, the prices are way out of my budget. Does anybody know what I can do?
--------------------
You're not gonna get it done for "very little money" but you you need to decide whats really important. Would u really want to go cheap on something as important as your smile? I know that sounds mean but I'm serious. I would not want some chop shop dentist working on my mouth. BUT there is an option.... there is something called Care Credit. It is a credit line, similar to a credit card that is just for dentistry work. So you can make payments. Not a whole lot of dentist offer it so look around. BUT DONT GO WITH THE CHEAPEST DENTIST!! YOU'LL REGRET IT IN THE END.

Can I omit information on a health insurance form?

I have been having a hard time getting health insurance in Canada because I have been a carrier of Hep C for 21 years. Even though I have no symptoms and have liver function tests every year that are consistently normal, the companies won't touch me! I am about to have our first baby and would really like coverage for prescription drugs, dental and vision - that's all I need. If I don't put down that I have Hep C, what are the repercussions if I get caught? Will they know anyway? And if anyone knows a company that WILL cover me, with or without a waiver for Hep C related conditions, I will be forever grateful. Thanks all.
--------------------
They check your records they would find out anyway. Check with an agent and ask about a possible exclusion for the Hep C and any conditions resulting from it?

Are dental plans and discount programs really worth it?

I need dental work done, but we haven't been able to pick up insurance from my husband's work yet. I'm looking at discount plans, and they prices seem promising but are there catches? Are they really worth it and do they save you money?
--------------------
the only way you can tell if they will save you money is if they give you their full price list up front. i looked at some plans that just give a "sample" price list so you don't really know what you're getting. I have a dental discount plan called careington 500 Series that i investigated a lot. i found it at 1dental.com. you can see their full list of prices beforehand (so you know what you're paying for. its saved me $2000+ so far on a combination of crowns/root canals recently and i haven't seen any catches. so yeah mine has been worth it i gather that the reason these plans can lower prices so much is that they are "in-network" only so they can kind of work the system. you have to go to a dentist contracted with the plan, but usually they have a list you can choose from so it's not a big deal

Have no insurance and can my gums heal by brushing everyday?

So i have no insurance and I live in a small town miles away from any dental school so that isn't an option. I have bleeding gums and I have since kicked up the brushing to three times a day and flossing as well as using mouthwash that is medicated. I want to know if doing these things allow the gums to heal?
--------------------
Bleeding gums or Scurvy is a vitamin C deficiency and fatal if untreated. All you need is vitamin C supplements. Get these from a pharmacy & also from foods such as oranges, lemonade, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbages, and green peppers.
