Divorce in California?

My wife and I signed a spousal support agreement in Mar 2010 entitling her to $1400/mth until she marries or I die; which ever comes first. the papers were filed but was rejected coz i had it printed double sided. we seperated in nov 2009. she recently learned i got a much higher paying job (about 70% more than my previous job and it is close to $200K). now she wants to change the spousal support agreement making me pay her $1600/mth, plus her cell phone, auto and medical/dental insurance until she remarries or i die; which ever comes first. or she said i pay her $1900/mth and i will not be responsible for the rest of the bills. is she entitled to all these? since the original agreement we both signed have been notarized; i.e. $1400/mth without any mention of her auto/dental/medical insurance and phone bills? we were married for 7 yrs and all these years she has not been supportive of me or my career and she is just too lazy to get a permanent job or retrain herself. she is threatening me with a lawyer to divide all my properties (401K; house; pension; savings) if i do not agree to her terms. please advise coz i am all stressed up. thanks.
--------------------
I think you are getting off really easy, since she is not asking for you 401k, house, etc. Sign it and get is filed. Peace.

What are typical Employee benefits?

I am interested in a job and I am going to call the HR Director tomorrow to discuss employee benefits. What should I ask about (even if I don't think they offer it)? I just want to make sure all my bases are covered. Here's what I'm thinking: 1) Holidays paid off? Which ones? 2) Vacation - how many days? How are they accrued? 3) Health Insurance - HMO vs. PPO? Monthly deduction? How much? *Waiting period (i.e. 30, 60, 90 days). 4) Dental Insurance - HMO vs. PPO? Monthly deduction? How much? 5) Vision Insurance? 6) Short Term Disability? 7) Long Term Disability? 8) Life Insurance? 9) Any Profit sharing? or 401K? 10) Personal Days and/or Sick Days? Any thing else that I'm not thinking of???
--------------------
omg! yeah, follow reds advice! I mean, I know you want to know all these things and they are very important, but holy **** Batman yer givin me a headache! LOL!! j/k. Let them tell you all that's available and since you're calling to discuss these things, that's probably what they will cover. You could have your list in front of you and check them off as they go so when you're asked if you have any questions you will remember which ones weren't covered. but, anyways, I think you have all the bases covered. your question just comes off uhhmmm....kind of 'in your face' and you've yet to be offered a job. Good luck though!

Is it just me, or is Obama becoming mean and even more politically tone-deaf?

I used to really like the guy, but it seems now that his inexperience is showing. He loses his cool a lot more now than he ever used to. First a couple weeks ago he called the Cambridge police officers "stupid" even though he didn't know the facts. Now he's telling workers in Indiana that America wasn't built on "griping and complaining" (which is accusing people of complaining and griping). That is a lot of ammunition for the opposition and I don't understand why he is digging his own political grave. People don't want to hear his pep-talks anymore, they want ACTION. Did you know that his healthcare plan doesn't have dental insurance, and if you want dental insurance you have to pay extra? The majority of Americans don't want his plan (they want reform, but not Obama reform), and the more he receives this reaction to his plan, the more he pushes it. Just like when he said "people stick to their guns and religion," he seems to be saying much worse these days. What's with this? Should our president be losing his cool and acting unprofessionally like this? I am a Social Democrat, by the way, so don't call me a Republican.
--------------------
I find your perspective intriguing, because as a registered republican, I did not vote for him, because of what he said ALL during his campaigning across this nation. I listened carefully, because, I did want change, I think Bush was not fiscally conservative. I was looking for a tough politician that could still protect this country, and not try to grow government. I listened as Obama promised increase in government spending, which always equated to higher taxes. So to answer your question, no I am not surprised, at all. He showed his true colors before any ballot was cast.

how come those who are not poor don't even try to understand or have human compassion?

I have been having a very hard finical time for about 6 months. It is worsened by these companies and people who do not understand. To me I would give a homeless person or someone who was poor help in whatever way I can help. I once stopped mid traffic to hand a homeless man some water and food. All the cars honked at me but I knew what I was doing was more important. (no I did not cause a wreck.) All the companies are pay money to are so cold. I was talking with KCPL and told them I could only afford $30/month. They said if I do not pay the full thing on budget billing I could be taken off and then have to pay $300? Furthermore my dental insurance refuses to cover the dental work I need. I just have to suffer. The dentist I go to refuses to write a letter because I am appealing the insurance companies descion. Gas is going up again. I am tired.. My sister might lose her house I could go on and on about our current soceity.

If only there were more people like you!!! - you sound like a woooonderfull person, very warm! I myself am worried for all those poor civillians in Gaza!, i really want to do something to help! I don't understand people who don't care about them, it's really shocking how the world is reacting...they are calling for cease fires...and that's it...now Israel has started fighting they believe they are getting somewhere they aren't going to stop that easily...and now this 3 hour cease fire per day pffft!!! nothing! ------------ Well done you for actually doing something, most people who can't afford moan about it...but getting a degree- that's a really good step into helping earn more, and generally become more knowledgeable. What degree are you doing? :)

I'm a grown woman terrified of going to the dentist?

I'm nearly 30 and I have not had dental insurance during the last 10 yrs and I have not seen a dentist in at least 12 years or so. I take care of my teeth, I floss and brush twice a day. I had braces for 3 yrs as a teenager and I saw the dentist regularly througout my childhood. Now I have some problems with my teeth. I'm pretty sure one is absessed (though not painful) and part of a tooth has broken. I'm not in pain, thank god. I've developed a huge anxiety over my teeth as to where I think I would have a panic attack if I saw a dentist. My husband started a new job and will have dental insurance in the near future. I'm so afraid to go. Has anyone else had a fear or anxiety of the dentist? I feel so ashamed :(
--------------------
Since you haven't been to the dentist in so long, the first appointment will likely just be a consultation exam with xrays. It will give you a chance to get to know the dentist and help you feel more comfortable. Plus you should be able to get an idea of exactly what needs to be done. The dentist is there to help you and will not do anything that you're uncomfortable with. Let them know right away that you haven't been to a dentist in a while and just want to know where things stand with your teeth. You will want the abscessed one dealt with before it does begin to hurt and the broken one may be able to just be filled since it's not bothering. Only a dentist will be able to tell. Your teeth may not even be as bad as you think they are since you brush and floss regularly.

I've never been to a dentist.. I'm almost 25...?

I've never been to a dentist because #1) My parents never had dental insurance and we couldn't afford it #2) I've never been able to afford my own dental insurance either. #3) I've heard SO many horror stories about dentists... I'm scared!! Anyway.. now I have no choice BUT to go to a dentist. I have had this horrible toothache now for about a month or a little longer. I don't know if it's just a cavity or what. It hurts to drink anything cold... it causes me to have a bad headache and toothache. It hurts to smile because the air hits it and triggers a toothache. It hurts to eat.. that also triggers a toothache. What should I expect? I'm really worried.. I don't want them to pull my tooth!! I hope I can just get a filling. Is it painful to get fillings? What does the procedure involve? Also, I'm really embarrassed to have to tell them I've never been to a dentist...
--------------------
Yep, it's a cavity! Chances are mate, you'll have to get a few fillings if you've never been! I've never had a filling needed at that stage - always earlier. The dentist will numb your gum and jaw, drill into the tooth until there's no decay, then fill it with a metal composite. Then they'll set it with a UV lamp. What may hurt a TINY bit is when your nerve is exposed. This is because they still bloody wash the tooth with water and it feels like probably what you're going through with cold water. It has to be ice cold to cool your tooth after drilling. Don't worry about it though!

Dr's in San Diego Area?

Need dental work done very badly! Had to drop my dental insurance to keep my health insurance. Went through cancer a few yrs ago. No one wants to hire me now. I was a Chef for almost 9yrs. Could any of you Dentists out there refer me to someone who could help me out here. I'm in very much pain with not very many choices to make other than laying my head on a RR track and getting it over with. Any info will be greatly appreciated. I'm already on very strong pain killers and they don't even help with the muscular & neurological pain I'm in right now. The chemo & surgeries were more than I thought they would be. My beautiful wife also needs a flipper. Maybe there aren't any good people left in this world after all. Maybe these people are right and were living in hell with the demons in charge of it all!!!

Price or quality of care? What would you do in this situation?

This is marriage-related in that I have some personal anxieties about spending "our" money for something that I think is really a personal expense I should be able to foot myself. (We have a hybrid his-hers-and-ours money arrangement.) My dental insurance is HMO. If you know anything about insurance, you know that's bad insurance. It means you have to pick from a short list of dentists, many of which suck. I need a root canal and a crown for a broken molar. I found an out-of-network dentist to do a free consultation to explain all this. I really like him, his personality, his helpfulness, the helpfulness of his staff, and the way they were completely open and willing to talk about money matters upfront. But my insurance won't pay him. And this will end up costing me over $2000 through him. My husband is willing to take the money out of joint savings to pay for it, but I don't feel completely comfortable with that. If I stay in-network, the only option I have is a dentist 25 miles away who is a complete hack, with unhelpful staff and a surly personality and a history (from people I know that have been there) of doing shoddy work. The money concerns are gone, but I would deal with a lot of abrasive personalities and a lot more office visits to get the same work done there. You can tell which way I'm leaning, but is $2000 excessive for insuring quality of the work and service I get? Am I being silly to hesitate on my husband's offer, or would you feel weird too?
--------------------
This is your (oral) health you're talking about...not a masseuse or yoga instructor or someone you could live without if you had to...poor dental health can lead to health issues in other parts of your body, and real misery is when you've got pain in your mouth... Go to the dentist you like, and payback your savings account as soon as possible (make regular payments into it, as if you were paying your dental bill to the dentist over time)...when it comes to my health, I won't knowingly go to someone who does half azzed work or who has a crummy attitude and crummy staff...I've had serious enough health issued to where sweet and understanding/caring people are the only ones I want to deal with...people who care about me and the level of care I recieve...

I need someone to point us in the right direction. My Mom needs help....?

Not sure were to go with this so any help would be great. My Mother is 59 she is a cancer patiant is on kemo for the past 1.5 years.. She is doing well but is very skinny. She needs to put on weight badly but has little to no teeth and is in serious need of dentures or implants... she has GHI dental insurance she is a retired nurse assistant for the V.A... Her dentist said it would be a 6,000 Job but we dont have that kind of money to put up and the insurance will only cover 30% of the 6,000.. My mother can barly pay rent and has 0 dollers toward dental work.. This is a matter of life and death she just needs some way to chew meat and other foods that will put on fat. she collects 200 a month from disablity.. But really needs more money she lives off her retirement and disabilty which is not much.. I really really need to help her gain some weight. we had mothers day dinner last night and she could not even chew her food. I gatta do somthing..

First off I am very sorry for your mother and you. However Iirc stores like CVS sell dentures. Very cheap as my grandmother needed some.
Source

for those of you that said $75 is cheap and asked if it was really insurance...?

i am told it is a cigna plan...i have a $20 copay, all routine visits and followups are 100% covered...the deductible is $1000 but my understanding is that is only for non routine appts and procedures...the vision is a "plan" it covers $35 or exan and $250 for glasses contacts ect every other year...they said i pay out of pocket then will be reimbursed. dental has 100% coverage for routine and 80% for more complicated things and 50% for dentures... i am excited that i can afford it... i guess i didnt really ask a question yet...sorry...i will do better next time
--------------------
Sound much like what I found when I was looking for coverage on-line. If it were a family plan, I'd say it sounds low. For a single, its about right.

thinking of taking a year off schooling before college?

im thinking of taking a full year off nxt year, i graduate high school in june. well first of all my parents dont have money to support my college, and i dont have any money saved so im basically screwed. plus i didnt apply to any colleges either. so i was thinking a community college, but i really want to leave this town :( im tired of it and the people. everyone is the same. so i was thinking of saving up money over the summer and moving somewhere cheap, gettnig a job there. then working day to night and saving up every penny. and i also dont even have like dental or health insurance or anything. i dont have a car..ive been sharing my mothers. i really need dental insurance because...ive always needed braces but ive only been to the dentists like twice in my life and my teeth are really bad, i mean not terrible but it is embarrassing and its really ideal for me to get braces or the invisible braces or surgery for my teeth. (also i had bulimia so they are even worse now) so thats really a big goal i have for myself. im just thinking if its a good idea to take a year off. also i was depressed in school a lot and didnt really care about my grades and i just dont want that to happen again next year and for me to flunk out. i want to just discover myself and get the things that i need (my teeth fixed, a car) and thenill go back to school. idk any advice?
--------------------
Sounds like you don't have much of a choice but to skip a year. But my only advice to you is, stay at home if your parents let you, you sound like your from America, not sure what it is like over there but over in UK, its really expensive to move out. If you do move away and get a job for a year you might find it hard to go back to college, with memories of you hating school (because over in England college is exactly the same as school even though they say it isn't). If i were you i would go to college for a few years and then go to uni, because you can get student accommodation and student loans to support you. Also you don't have to go to a close uni you could go to any.. so you would get to move away and discover yourself ... But I'm not sure what it is like in America, but in England you do get student accommodation and student loans, grants etc, and i think everyone is eligible. I think you should stay with your parents. I mean whats the rush, you've got the rest of your life to live : ) xx

What am I doing to myself?

I have very bad teeth due to having no dental insurance when I was a child. I only saw a dentist 2 or 3 times between the ages of 5 and 16, now I am 25 and I still have no health or dental insurance because I am in college and raising my child. My teeth hurt constantly, it's the first thing I notice when I wake up, they bother me in class, and they keep me from sleeping at night. My pregnancy 5 years ago also took a very bad toll on my teeth, almost every tooth in my mouth I'm sure needs to be pulled and I have some in the back that have rotted all the way up into my gum. To the point: to try and cope with the pain I have taken OTC pain relievers on a DAILY basis for about 3 years. I take everything from aspirin to ibuprofen to (flinch) BC powder. I have at times, taken 10 BC powders or 16 ibuprofens in one day. I have not gotten severely sick or anything yet (just some bladder problems and stomach pains) but I was wondering how bad am I hurting my body? How much longr can ido this?
--------------------
Taking too much OTC can cause problems, but the teeth can cause a more severe problem. In cases, it can damage your brain, which can also lead to death. You should go to a dentist immediately, even without insurance, a lot of dentists give discounts to people without insurance, and there are loads of cheap dentists around. You're still young, you should get it done earlier in life as possible. See a dentists soon, Good Luck!

Help! How can I get over this?

Like many people, we search for "the one". We have certain things that we look for in the other person.....great personality, responsible, fun, trust worthy, honest. We all have things we find attractive...me for instance, I'm a sucker for blond hair, beautiful blue eyes, tattoos. What about the things that can be deal breakers, or...phobias maybe. I'm 35 years old. I've had the very long term relationship (10 years...never did marry or have children), I've been single now for almost 5 years, did my party thing and now, I'm just trying to concentrate on my future. I'd like to have someone to share what I have to offer with. I don't really have a problem getting a mans attention, but I'm not gorgeous by no means. So I meet someone, ends up, we went to high school together, we knew each other, even sat next to each other in classes.....even thought the other was "a cutie" back in the day. We seem to be what the other looks for in a person we want to spend time with, and we're both where we want that "one" in our lives. He's my blond, blue, tattooed guy. We get along great, we can carry on a conversation, share so many interest...it's amazing. Here is my deal breaker I'm trying to get over. I'm not a clean freak by no means, but you can tell when someone is dirty from working...or just dirty. To look at him....he fits the clean category. He even has the most kissable lips....but his teeth are horrible! I so badly want to allow him to kiss me deeply, but all I can find myself giving is just long pecks on the lips. I'm a person that gets turned on by deep passionate kisses.....and I so badly want to kiss him. I grew up with braces on my teeth, I take care of them....and I cant seem to get past it. I know someday he wants to fix them, but he doesn't have dental insurance, and he doesn't make alot of money at all...like so many of us, he barely has enough to keep his own head above water. We've been seeing each other for awhile, and MAYBE.....he could be that "one", so if it got to that point, I do have pretty good insurance, which includes dental, then I could help him. He is embarrassed about his teeth, so I don't really say much. I don't want to hurt his feelings. I know he wants to give me that deep kiss as well.....but I don't know how to get over this. Any advice?
--------------------
this is abit of a tricky one. my boyfriend doesnt have perfect teeth and i just sat down and said to him about it and just told him im sorry its just how i feel kind of thing, yeh he did get upset but he got even more upset by the fact i just ***** confront him about it. so maybe try confronting him about it and tell him that you would like to help him so as he can feel alot better about himself and feel better as to how others look at him. fingers crossed things go well for you

I have a bad toothache, and ibuprophen doent help anymore, can i go to the emergency room?

I dont have dental insurance, but my husband and i got married in january so he added me to his insurance. I donht have pain meds and havent gotten my insurance card yet. Ive been to the emergency room about 2-3 weeks ago for antibiotics and pain meds for my tooth. Can i go back to get more? I should be getting the insurance card soon enough and have been using ibuprophen but its not helping any more. The doctors wont think im just wanting pain meds for fun will they?

How about paying couple of hundred to see a dentist instead of wasting THOUSANDS of ER resources. The pain meds will not fix the problem. GO TO DENTIST, DON'T WASTE THE ER RESOURCES

Does your dentist pressure you to get work done you can't afford?

I hate going to the dentist. Not because I have horrible problems but every time I go she tries to pressure me into getting an implant for a back molar I lost years ago. First her office told me that my dental insurance would cover it so I scheduled a consultation. I double checked and found out none of it would be covered, it's considered cosmetic. The next time I saw her she said "well we wouldn't want you to jeopardize your dental health because of money"....I don't have $4,000 to replace a tooth. Then she wanted me to put in a bridge, which I found out later was also considered cosmetic and not covered by my insurance. Then she wanted me to buy a custom retainer. I have had no problems with the loss of this tooth. I wish she would just stop. Has anyone else had their dentist keep pressuring you to do work you can't afford?
--------------------
Your dentist is just trying to advise you as to what would be best for you. She would not be very good if she wasn't concerned about your dental health. Who you should really be angry with is your insurance company. There is no way replacing a missing molar is considered cosmetic. It is totally for function and to prevent future damage to your other teeth. It is malpractice for the insurance company to try and get out of paying this claim with a falsehood like this. They should be reported to the state insurance commission.

How can I get my dad to take going to the dentist seriously?

So me and my sister haven't been to the dentist in years... We have dental insurance (2 cleanings a year are fully covered). A while ago there weren't any dentist in our area who took our insurance now there is but we still don't go. I have been asking my dad when we are gona go and he does not seem to concerned about it.... Hes like why would you want to go to the dentist... Why would you want somebody to pick at your teeth?? Well I think I have a wisdom tooth comming in, that is going to need attention. Also I would like to have the dentist talk to my parents about how important getting braces are. Also my sisters been complaining that her teeht hurt on and off. I just don't get it, it dosen't even cost any money so what is the problem?? I mean why do we have insurance (we have ortho. insurance too) if we are not going to use it?? Its not like I can just call a dentist and make my own appointment either (esepecially if I have issues that need to be discussed with my parents).
--------------------
Go to this website: www.komonews.com and look up the story about the woman that was convicted of not taking her son to the dentist. This was just on their website a couple of weeks ago. This news station is in Seattle. Show your dad the story. Maybe that will convince him to make the appointment.

Root canal needed? I have a very intense pain and it settles down after a cycle of antibiotic.?

Last week, I had an intense toothache on a Molar that had a deep tooth filling a month ago. During tooth filling, the nerve was exposed and the dentist prescript me some antibiotic. At that time, I didn't finish all antibiotic that I supposed to finish. It was OK until 3 weeks after the filling. I had a very intense pain. It was a thanksgiving weekend so I called my dentist and he prescript me some antibiotic. I finish the whole antibiotic cycle and my pain goes away. Today is the third day after I stop the antibiotic. That molar is painless and I can even chew with it. I make an appointment with my dentist this Friday. Should I do root canal as soon as I can? I don't have dental insurance currently but if it is needed to be done I am willing to do it. If it can be untreated for 1-2 years I would wait until I got a job that offers me dental insurance. Any opinion on this? Thanks!

HAVE THE NERVE REMOVED NOW TO GET YOU OUT OF PAIN, AND THE CASE FINISHED AT A LATER, TIMELY DATE WHEN FINANCES ARE BETTER FOR YOU. THIS PROCEDURENIS CALLED NERVE EXTIRPATION AND WILL CEASE THE PAIM, YET IF YOU LET IT GO AND NEVER FINISH THE ROOT CANAL YOU WILL EVENTUALLY LOSE THIS TOOTH.

Is it safe for a toddler to get a crown?

Okay, Here is my problem. I brought my two year old daughter to a pediatric dentist here in Sugar land area with Dr. Ben Villalon. He did an evaluation and let me know that my daughter has an under bite, and aside from that my daughter needs 8 crowns. He advised me that it is better to put a stainless crowns on her instead of a crown that looks like a real teeth because of her under bite. My question is it safe for a 2 year old girl to have her 8 teeth get crown and is it safe for her to go under anesthesia? I feel guilty because I let her go to sleep with a bottle on her mouth, and that's the reason why she needed a crown because of cavities. I need your advice and if this is the only way to solve her dental issue would you still let her go under anesthesia and have the crowns on her even if she is only 2 years old. If you are a pediatric dentist, assistant and have any dental background about dental field please give me some helpful tips and advice. It will cost like around $2,790 but we have a dental insurance.

8 crowns on a 2 year old? WOW! Did you not know it's horrible to put your kid to bed with a bottle?? As for as crowns go, they are temporary for young kids like that since their teeth will change and a stainless crown is more price effective. I hope the only thing your kid gets in his/her bottle at night now is only water. I would definitely take her to a pediatric dental office to get this done as they can accommodate young kids better since they have all the equipment they need and the right sizes.

Where and to whom do I write?

Does anybody know the appropriate place and person to send a letter or petition concerning Medicare reform? I have a petition signed by a lot of people who feel that Medicare should cover dental work. People on Medicare are retired elderly people or people with a disability who cannot work. Dentists will not work on your teeth unless you pay for the work when it is done. Nobody I know (myself included) on Medicare has $4,000 at the ready for a crown. I currently need in excess of $8,000 worth of dental work done and my dentist will not do anything about it because I cannot pay him up front and he will not let me make monthly payments. It's not that I do not take care of my teeth. I had great teeth until I became disabled and had to start taking several medications which cause dry mouth, which causes decay (at a rapid pace) I am only 47 yrs. old and now I am going to have to sit here while my teeth rot out of my head because I have no dental insurance and cannot afford it.....I cannot afford to have my teeth fixed....even the dental school wants payment when services are rendered and while they are 40% cheaper, I don't have 40% of $8,000 anymore than I have the $8,000. To whose attention do I bring this and send this petition?

They know about it, and they don't care. I can remember when they also didn't cover glasses after cataract surgery, isn't it wonderful to think that we, in this country don't care if the elderly see? Thank heaven for the operation that changed their need. If not the government. In the meantime, if you have a credit card, many dentists take that, otherwise you may have to have the teeth pulled, a full denture is cheaper than a partial, and way cheaper than a crown, not an ideal solution, but that's the best that can be offered right now. Don't lose your hearing either.

My mouth/teeth hurt soooooooooo bad?

About a week ago I started noticing bad pain in my lower left molar area. As a brief history, I used to suffer from bulimia so I'm used to dental pain - and actually the embarassment of the cause of the problems made me refrain from dental care for a LONG time. It is so bad that I actually called to find about going to a dentist (it's been years, i know, that's bad) but my dental insurance doesnt kick in until May 1. I called to try to schedule an appointment asap after the 1st, and every dentist i've called said it wont be until JUNE. I can't even wait five days I sure cant wait over a month. I tried to tell them it was an emergency, that i cant eat, cant sleep, cant do anything, but they said june is their first available for new paitents. should i go to the ER? what could they do to me? I know I have an absess as well as 2 broken teeth and wisdom teeth pushing through. I know they'll probably say make a dental appt, but can they do anything to help in the meantime?

I'm sorry, that REALLY sucks!! EVERY dentist I've ever been to has an emergency policy! Keep calling around, SOMEONE has to be able to get you in. Just GO there (to the dentist, not the ER) if you have to!!
