could this root canal be coming back?

my gum is swollen and sore around a tooth that had a root canal when i was 14. im 22 now, the filling fell off 2 years ago and i dont have dental insurance. it looks like i have a huge hole where the tooth once was. what should i do???
--------------------
You need to see a dentist!! Without that filling in there the root canal you had done is not sealed. If not sealed properly it can become reinfected and have to be re-treated. If this is the case and you do not have anything done you could potentially lose the tooth if you let it go and it starts to decay. It is common for there to be a big hole (since you lost the filling) because they had to drill out the center of your tooth to get to the canals. You need to make sure you are keeping it clean while you do not have the filling in it.

unemployment compensition?

If you get medical and dental insurance paid by your employer (Real Estate Agent) and get laid off. What benefits can you get.
--------------------
Unemployment comp is only a portion of your salary -- no benefits. COBRA will give you the option of continuing your health (and maybe dental, not sure) insurance uninterupted, but it's not especially affordable. Good luck!

dentures or not to denture?

My upper teeth have a short life expectancy remaining. My lowers however should last a while. I will loose my dental insurance in less than 2 yrs. My dentist will try every cocievable way to avoid pulling teeth.
--------------------
Upper dentures and lower dentures are totally different. Most people have a much easier time adapting to and being able to use an upper denture than they can with a lower denture. The upper denture fits snuggly with suction. The lower does not and floats around and the tongue and the floor of the mouth are working against it. So try to hang on to your lower teeth as long as you can. Even a couple of good solid teeth will allow a partial to be made and give the lower some stability.

Pull out own wisdom tooth?

I never got my wisdom teeth pulled when I was a teen. So now, one wisdom tooth is seriously damaged. It ended up breaking in half and falling out, so now the other half is still intact, but loose. Should I pull it out or leave it there? It didn't hurt when the other half fell out, but now whatever is left is starting to get a little painful. I would go to the Oral Surgeon if I had the money, but I don't. I also don't have any dental insurance. Thanks for your help.
--------------------
Very bad idea! Most of the time when "part" of a tooth comes out, it's only the top part called the crown. Even if you think you can get most of it out, you'll probably leave part of the root deep down, which can lead to a very large infection. Also, wisdom teeth extractions come with plenty of risks: in the upper arch, you risk perforating the sinus and creating a communication between your mouth and sinus if they're not pulled out right, while in the lower arch you can risk touching or tearing your nerve, which may lead to permanent nerve damage and loss of sensation in a large part of your mouth. In short, get it out by a professional. Pulling out adult teeth is nothing like pulling out baby teeth. Adult teeth roots are very big and very solid. Every time I've seen a patient who says they "pulled out their own tooth", they usually don't even realize that there's a huge chunk of diseased and decaying root left. If what's left after they pulled their own tooth is very small and no longer attached to a larger chunk of tooth, it can be a real nightmare to get the remaining pieces out. Trust me, you'd much rather have it done right the first time than have to go to the surgeon to fish around for root tips.

I need some Psychology info please!?

I have to fill out this form for 1 of my classes and I don't know where to find this info. I need to know : **What kind of benefits a Social Work can EXPECT to get paid, not hope too.** Health insurance Life insurance Dental insurance Paid vacations, Paid holidays Retirement benefits Stock options Other benefits Obviously this would come from an employeer, but since I am only a freshman in College, and won't be a Social Worker for quite sometime I really need to know where to find this type of information. Thanks!
--------------------
First social work and psychology are different careers. Second, these are going to vary from area to area, organization to organization, level of experience, training, etc. In general a BSW will earn 20-40K (starting) MSW - 30-60K (starting). Most organizations will offer some benefits - State jobs will offer the best as they are often unionized. Hospitals also offer good benefits. Small non-profits will offer the most minimum benefits. What is wrong with a dentist making over $100,000 a year?

I am a dental assistant, so I know the behinds the scenes reasons why dentistry is so expensive. I am amazed at the number of people on here who call dentists money hungry and complain about the amount of money that dentists make, but a dentist isn't so bad when that same person has a horrible toothach. Do patients really think that the money they pay a dentist goes directly into their pocket? Do patients not realize that everything that they see in that office, from the drills to the anesthetic down to a single piece of paper, costs money, and that a dentist has to pay for all of this, rent, lab bills, utilities, salaries, malpractice insurance, continueing ed courses, repairs to computers and other equipment, before he pockets a dime of the money patients pay him? I can tell you, if I went to school for 8 years, paid over $300,000 for dental school, and had to deal with the issues that dentists do, I would expect to take home over $1000,000 a year. Wouldn't you?
--------------------
I agree. When I was in hygiene school we were told over and over to watch how many towels we used just to dry our hands becuz in the real world dentists are cheapskates with what they need to spend. They should be, if people knew all the supplies and other expenses that it takes and just the stress of getting that far in your career, you should be making that much or more. The dentists at my office are very nice and have done a lot of quick procedures free of charge when I've walked in needing something like a small chip drilled smooth.

Black Gums You thnk the Dentist and clear that n give me pink healthy gums?

i have dental insurance my father he has money so i wanna get veneers because i have gaps in my front tooth and gaps on top and bottom and after i get veneers get my teeth whitening and get my black gums cleared pink .... i would love to now what's the best dental insurance and how much is the cheaper veneers like composite veneers i wanna get them how long it stays on your teeth and what is the best toothbrush you have to get.....? please reply....
--------------------
if you have gaps in your teeth, braces would probably be a better option. with any type of veneer, they can be fragile. which ever type you choose they should last a long time if you take care of them. in terms of prices you would have to talk to your dentist. they can give you prices based on how many you would need. veneers do not whiten by bleaching, so it may not be necessary unless the teeth next to them are visible when you smile. as far as your gums being dark... your skin tone could be why your gums are dark. if that is the case there is nothing to do to fix that. if you want a manual toothbrush they are all pretty much the same, as long as you use a soft bristle brush. if you want a rechargeable brush you can get the sonicare or oral-b triumph, both work well. hope this helps. send me a message if you have anymore questions.

Tell me how anyone can afford healthcare insurance- My husband is retired but not old enough for Medicare.?

We pay $500/month - for medical, dental & vision, $1200 deductible. Help! Does anyone have an individual policy that may be better and cheaper. His is through his previous employer.

Would you support a new Congressional effort for free health care for all?

Momentum is building in Congress to support for universal health care for all citizens who need it. Private health care would remain, but millions of people would now have access. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to include dental care, eye care, hearing aids, physical checkups, and foot care among the items and services for which payment may be made under the supplementary medical insurance program, and to provide safeguards against consumer abuse in the provision of these items and services.

Yes I would. Could we please start taxing the rich again and drop all this "supply-side economics" crap to give the poor some real relief?

free or low cost dentist?

I need a dentist. My husband and I live in MA and we struggle from paycheck to paycheck to just keep the bills paid and food on the table. MA is very expensive so, even with our meager existence, we make "too much money" to get any sort of assistance for rent or food. We have medical insurance through my work, but we don't have dental insurance. I lost a filling and my tooth really hurts, but we cant afford a dentist. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help? (we have no children, if it matters)
--------------------
If your closest large city or college area has a dental program of instruction, you could possibly get the filling with a sliding scale program of payment. They take patients to work on. Fillings are the least of dental procedures that I know of. Meanwhile, your pharmacy could have pain relievers.

My filling chipped off?

Years ago, I bit a fork and chipped my lower front tooth, and went to the dentist and got a filling for the chip. Now the filling has come off, and we don't have dental insurance anymore. Should I just live with it, even though it hurts, or should I tell my parents, and have a big dental bill because of it? I don't know why it came out. I wasn't eating at the time. Thanks.
--------------------
You need to go back to the dentist who did it. It may or may not be free or redone at a reduced price. It will depend on the dentist. These bonds that restore the biting edges of teeth are sometimes difficult to get to hold, especially if you have a tight bite. good luck.

single mom needs dental care in dallas tx?

I am a single mom and have no insurance b/c i cant afford it, but I went to a baylor clinic where the students pratice and they want 1400 dollars !!!! I just need something with a payment plan, or if you know someone that might happen to have a kind heart that does charity work for those that TRULEY need it.
--------------------
If you have/had an address in Arlington, you can go to the Mission in Arlington. The "old" (about three years ago) rate was $20 per visit, regardless of the required treatment. I would suggest you call them anyway, some of the doctors are willing to help out those in need even beyond volunteering their hours there. You could also visit South Texas Dental. I used to worjk there. They offer discounted rates on dental care. There are several locations throughout Dallas. They stay pretty busy, that's the only downside. If you'd like, you can e-mail me more information and I can make a phone call to help you get the ball rolling. They received some bad press awhile ago, but it is not a bad place to visit, otherwise the offices would have been closed. I can also give you the background info on that. There is a group of dentists that do charity work, but due to overwhelming need, it is very difficult to get on the list. You have to have extreme need and be wlling to be used as a case study, in some treatments. As I said, I'd be more than willing to help you out. Don't despair, there is help available to you.

Which job would you take?

I was offered two different jobs today. Here are the details 1. Second shift, 3:30 - 11:30 PM Monday - Friday from September to June (I live in Wisconsin where it snows during the winter), first shift from June until September, union job, pay starts at $11.09/hour and will go up to $13/hour by next July, full benefits including dental, medical and life insurance, long term disability, state retirement. I have done this type of job for 26 years and I HATE DOING IT!!!!! 2. First shift 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday and every third Saturday for 3 hours, non-union, pay starts at $10/hour and will go to $10.50/hour in 90 days, no dental insurance but has every other type of insurance as well as two retirement plans. This would be a new type of job for me and I would LOVE THIS JOB!!! Both jobs are 20 miles from where I live. Which should I choose? I have to let them know in the morning.

What's wrong with my jaw?

The right biting side of my jaw fits fine together, then the left side doesn't really match up well. Most of the time when I chew or open my mouth my jaw makes like a pop noise. What's wrong with me? I don't have dental insurance yet, so there's not much i can do. Would I have to get braces or like reconstructive jaw surgery or something?
--------------------
It sounds like TMJ. The full name: Tempromandibular Joint Dysfunction. I have had it since I was a pre-teen - and it sucks! It can cause pain in the jaw, and some NASTY headaches. There are specialists who can treat without surgery - and it's generally effective. I understand the no insurance thing though. What MY specialist told me to do was get a football mouth guard & put it in when I go to sleep. That was training my jaw to stay where it should. Then he got me a real bite splint to do the same thing. But the guard would help. Most people with this grind or clench their teeth during sleep or times of stress. You can Google the condition for more info. Good luck!!

Wisdom teeth questions?

Can anyone tell me, Do your wisdom teeth have to be all the way in before they can be removed? My top ones are almost all the way in, but my bottoms are just barely breaking through the gum tissue, But they HURT SO BAD!!! Also does anyone know about how much it would cost to remove them? I do not have dental insurance. Thanks for the help!
--------------------
When wisdom teeth do not break out of the gums, they are called "impacted". My son has 3 impacted ones. The oral surgeon said they usually aren't supposed to hurt unless they are getting infected or...well, the area around the tooth can create a bigger "hole" and this can cause serious problems. The "hole" can get bigger in the gums but then it progresses where there is a "cavern" starting in the bone down lower, carving out an empty indentation in the bone. This progresses slowly, but can cause real problems. Also there's a very sensitive nerve that runs where the roots of the teeth are growing in, and if you let the roots grow all the way and the teeth aren't moving up, then the roots will hit/grow through the nerve. So yes they need to probably come out. It is expensive though. My son's 3 teeth are costing us $800 and that's with insurance picking up almost half the bill. Is there a dental school near you? That's where I would take my son for years while he was younger to get all the work done. Did a good job, and ALOT less expensive. Or maybe a dental clinic that goes on income? Check it out. Hope all works out. Will send you healing thoughts.... Is there

Wisdom tooth coming in?

I'm pretty sure that my wisdom tooth is coming in, but just one. I feel it with my tongue, and I think half of it is out but the other half feels almost half stuck under the gumb. Is it supposed to hurt? It hurts a little, sort of like a teething pain. I don't have dental insurance...what should I do?
--------------------
It most likely is your wisdoms. Yes, they will hurt, but it varies person to person how much, depending on whether or not the tooth is impacted.(Growing in sideways) Some people have enough space in their mouths for their wisdoms, and they go through some pain as the tooth comes in but are otherwise fine. But if your mouth is crowded and you don't think there will be room....get yourself dental insurance. There's no huge rush. My wisdom teeth were "coming in" for like 8 years...but don't wait too long. Waiting too long can make your teeth shift or damage nerves in your mouth. My advice would be to see a doctor and get x-rays so he can tell you if you'll have enough room for them or not. Note: All dentists will tell you that your wisdoms HAVE to come out. That's not true- they just like making money like everybody else. Make sure to specifically ask the dentist if you have enough room or not. Ask to see the x-ray if he doesn't show you.

Which is better: paying for braces out of pocket or with an dental PPO plan?

Insurances confuse me... :)

Medical Discount Plan ideal for those who cannot afford or qualify for traditional health insurance. The companies offer discounted health services for a quite low monthly fee. Benefits include a range of discounts for doctors, hospitals, dental, vision, prescriptions, vitamins, as well as other health services. Individual & Family Health Plans This is a major health insurance plan for individuals and families. If you are looking for comprehensive long term health insurance coverage for yourself and/or your family members who are 62 years old or younger - this is the plan to choose. Short Term Medical Plans This plan is ideal for individuals in transition. Maybe you have just graduated from college and are no longer covered under your student health insurance or you moved out on your own, and you're no longer covered under your parents' medical insurance plan. Or perhaps you're employed part-time, going to school, leaving home for the first time, or even retiring early. Maybe you've found a new job, but your new employer's group health insurance plan won't kick in until you've been with months. YOu are not the only one who met this problem,I have met this type of problem before.I have good experience here    www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info    to solve my similiar problem.
