Dental insurance: Benefit Limit and 50% co-insurance. Explain?

I have dental insurance which states that for "Routine Dental Treatment" that a "50% Co-insurance applies". There is then "Benefit Limit" of $400. Can some please explain what this means and how the Benefit limit and 50% Co-insurance are related. Thanks!
--------------------
Your Co-insurance means your insurance will pay 50% of your dental bill. The benefit limit means that the insurance will pay 50% of your bill up to $400. That means if you have a dental bill of $600, the insurance will pay 50%, or $300. If the bill is $800, the insurance pays $400. If the bill is $1000, it will pay $400 even though 50% is $500 because the "limit" is only $400.

I am self employed i need to buy some dental insurance. Is there any out there on the net that someone

that someone would recommend. Would you just recommend pay out of pocket each time. THANKS.

Most of my employers haven't offered me dental coverage (ironic, isn't it?). And I haven't seen a private policy that pays out more than it takes in.

They pay $400 or 1/2 of the cost, whichever is less. You pay the rest. For example: a) If you need $600 of care, then they pay $300 and you pay $300. b) If you need $1000 of of care, then they pay $400 and you pay $600.

How do i get my insurance to pay for dental implants?

I got a couple of teeth pulled months ago. Now my other teeth are starting to get worse its hard to chew cause its either cold or it just hurts to chew. And my gums are starting to bleed! Not to mention I kind of have a lisp when I talk now :( And I'm good at brushing my teeth but when I was a kid I wasn't and my parents never took me to the dentist!
--------------------
As the previous answer says, most insurance plans specifically exclude implants. It's kind of stupid, since implants are the best treatment. But it's also understandable, because they are so expensive. Of course, there is an alternative to implants, which is a bridge (either temporary or permanent). Most insurance companies WILL pay for a bridge, at least partly. Ask your dentist about whether a bridge would work for you. They are unnoticeable, and the permanent ones will last for decades. Having a permanent bridge is not at all like having false teeth. But if your gums are bleeding and you are having trouble chewing, you may have other problems beside the missing teeth. You need to get back to the dentist and have him look at your mouth. It sounds like you could be having gum disease problems, and you need to clear that up before you think about implants, a bridge, or anything else. I would not wait on this. These kinds of problems get worse rather than better if left on their own. Good luck!!

how can I get Dental Insurance?

Hi, I'm on SSDI - and I have Medicare and Wisconsin Hirsp - a high risk state program, and neither covers any dental work for me, and I've been paying for everything out of my pocket and I've spent a small fortune on dental work. What other coverage can I get. I don't have a lot of income - but I think it will be worth it to try to get coverage. I'm in Wisconsin. thanks
--------------------
You have three options with dental. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. $50 deductible, annual maximum of $750 - $1500, waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

Dental Insurance Question?

I don't understand what the "Annual Maximum" in regards to dental insurance means. My annual maximum is 1200. What does this mean for me? My dental insurance will pay for up to 1200? If so, what happens after I reach that? Does that mean I pay for services fully out of pocket?

Or does anyone know of a good dental plan that would cover prcedures for severe gum disease with out a waiting period? i know if we dont get it fixed soon he will loose his teeth, thanks.

The dental schools in your area are University of Michigan (Ann Arbor,) Detroit Mercy University (Detroit,) University of Illinois Chicago (Chicago,) and Marquette University (Milwaukee.) Dental schools are cheaper than private practice, but do take longer. I hope one of these are convenient for you.

First, do not get the discount plan mentioned in the first answer. Even if you get a discount plan, you will still need to get insurance, and there is no reason to get both. Getting both will cost more than just getting insurance, and offers no advantage. Getting only the discount plan would leave you uninsured and could cost you more than getting nothing. Using arbitrary dates of birth within the age ranges you mentioned, and using an arbitrary Houston ZIP code for you address, http://ehealthinsurance.com said that you had over 100 options for health insurance, ranging in price from $138 per month for BlueCross BlueShield of Texas Foundation Hospital Care Plan I (Hospital Only Plan) to $1325.02 per month for UnitedHealthOne Copay Select 80 - 500. I did not check dental prices, but they are usually much less than health insurance.

How can i get dental work done without insurance or mexico?

My employer does not offer a plan and i need a bridge or implant very soon but most individual plans don't cover much of the cost and they make you wait 6-12 months for bridges and implants.
--------------------
First you should check to see if there is a dental school somewhere near you. (Or at least within reasonable driving distance.) Many dental schools provide a full range of dental work in order to give their students experience. (Tricky procedures are usually done by the teacher, with the students assisting.) Sometimes they limit expensive procedures to low-income people only, but you can always check. (If you have low income, you may find you can get some assistance from the county health too.)

can imputed income for medical & dental insurance for my domestic partner be claimed as medical expense?

my company offers medical and dental insurance to my domestic partner. but my company reports the entire value (what it cost me and my company) of the medical and dental coverage as taxable income to me. This totals over $8k last year. When I file my taxes, can I declare this as a medical expense under medical insurance premium?
--------------------
I run across this quite often. The answer is no. While some states recognize domestic partnership, the Federal Government does not. That is the reason that your employer reports it as income. They should not be pre-taxing your contribution for his insurance because Section 125 of the IRS code will only allow you to deduct on a pretax basis for members of your family, as defined by Federal Law. Domestic partnership does not meet that definition. The same holds true for COBRA. It is a federal law, and therefore, does not recognize domestic partnership. IRS Publication 502 lists all medical expenses that are eligible for tax consideration/deduction. It says: "You can generally include medical expenses you pay for yourself as well as those you pay for someone who was your spouse or your dependent...To include these expenses, you must have been married either at the time your spouse received the medical services or at the time you paid the medical expenses." It further defines dependent as, " Child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc, your stepchild, brother, sister, half brother, half sister, stepbrother or stepsister, parent, grandparent, or other direct ancestor, but not foster parent, stepfather, stepmother, brother or sister of your father or mother, son or daughter of your brother or sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in law." The person must have lived with you for the entire year and you must have provided half of that person's total support for the calendar year. There is no mention of domestic partner. By the way, I don't believe that you can file a joint return unless you are married either.

Around how much can you expect to pay for dental insurance?

for only yourself? never bought it before, so don't know
--------------------
Too much for what you will benefit. I would consider having a dental exam to access your needs. Then I would consider some sort of payment options..such as Care Credit, versus insurance. If your needs are minimal, you don't need insurance. Good Luck

Any cheap dental insurance?

I am into getting braces but i dont have dental insurance. So i was looking into delta dental and aethna? but didnt know if they were better ones that cover more and that have cheap payments or annual fees?
--------------------
Look, they all charge about the same, and most of them exclude orthodontics, flat out. Orthodontics coverage is EXTREMELY limited, because only people who wanted to use it, would ever buy it.

Health Centers provide health and dental care to people of all ages, whether or not they have health insurance or the money to pay for health care.
