Can I get dental insurance for myself if I am a dependent?

I'm 19 and I live at home with my parents. I am still a dependent. We don't have dental insurance and I wanted to know if I can buy dental insurance for myself. I am unemployed, will that make a difference?

Yes you can. Have a look at http://www.wakefinancialgroup.com/dental-insurance.html where you can get some free quotes.

Can anyone answer a few questions about how dental insurance usually works?

Generally, after you've had work done at the dentist, then, does the dentist send you a bill or does your insurance company send you a bill? And also, if you have ever had this done, how much does your particular insurance make you pay if you have a dental visit where you need to have a root canal and then a crown and whatever else those require?

My boyfriend is currently unemployed and needs health and dental insurance can I add him to mine?

My boyfriend and I have been together for a little under 2 yrs, he just lost his job due to lay offs, he now has no medical and no dental insurance. Is there a way I can add him to my plan since we are not married and not living together?
--------------------
All you have to do is marry him, and then you can add him. In order to get marital priveleges, you have to be married.

If a dentist office failed to completely verify your dental insurance, should you pay for the bill?

I went to a new dentist and thought I was completely covered under my mom's dental insurance. They appearently thought I was too, so I signed a statement which came to $0!!! I didn't have to pay for anything, I'm covered, that's what they told me. Ok, so then I get a call saying I'm not covered at all, so now I have to pay for the whole bill. Am I responsible for their mistake? I have already paid for half.
--------------------
YOU are responsible for knowing what YOUR coverage is, not the dentist. They look up the info to cover their own @ss from people like you who dont think they should pay for their treatment if they are not covered....they dont look it up for YOU. Had they seen that you were not covered they probably would have billed you upfront.

Can anyone recommend a good dental insurance company?

I have to pay for insurance on my own and I tend to have a lot of dental problems so I know I will need good coverage. Any recommendations for good private dental insurance companies? Thanks!!
--------------------
Ameriplan is a great company to go with. They can save you up to 80% on your dental care, and their plan also comes with vision, prescription and chiropractic care. The individual plan cost $11.95 per month and the houshold plan is $19.95 per month. You can view more about the plans, search for providers in your area and find a number to call or sign up at the following website: http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/mlein Good Luck :) FYI they also have medical plans in addition to the dental plan and the medical plan includes the dental plan and it cost $49.95 for an individual and $59.95 per month for a houshold. What's a typical cost for independent health and dental insurance?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of leaving journalism and delving into the world of full-time nannying. Besides being sick to my stomach with corporate America, I hope to one day go back to school for a degree with early childhood education. I love working with kids. My only concern with this career move is losing the benefits that come with a corporate employer. Does anyone know the average monthly cost for dental, health and/or insurance? Any suggestions for insurance companies to go with?
--------------------
The premium for your health insurance when you go out on your own will vary significantly based on your age and gender. I have seen decent policys as low as $111 per month for a young male and over $800 per month for someone in their late 50's. Keep in mind, when you are going into the self employed arena - and you are shopping for health insurance, you can not look at the benefits in the same fashion as your big corporate health insurance policys. You need to look for the following: 1) minimal internal policy limitations - ie - limints on physical therapy, ambulance, in-patient hospitalization limits 2) Provider Network - make sure you get into a plan that gives you in network access to nationwide doctors 3) Rate guarantees - some carriers are offering 18 and 24 month rate guarantees 4) Get educated on Health Savings Account (HSA) qualified plans - they can save you significant premium and tax dollars 5) Pre-existing condition limitations - if you have pre-existing conditions, be sure to review any exclusions with the policy 6) Use a local broker / agent - they have the most knowledge regarding the policys that work the best in your local area. Hope this helps

Can you help with a dental insurance question?

Do you know of a good dental insurance company that covers pre- existing problems such as peridontal disease.I am currently living in Texas if that helps. I'm wanting to get it activated ASAP.Thx.
--------------------
Given your situation, what i would recommend is a dental discount plan. It is different than dental insurance. I recommend that because although a dental insurance may "cover" a pre-existing condition, they can have some long waiting periods before you can get some work done... it operates as an unofficial "we don't cover pre-existing conditions" clause. Discount Plans for dental on the other hand start immediately for any procedure, they are about 7 bucks a month, and they do cover pre-existing conditions. Now you will also want to check these out with whatever dental discount plan you look at. 1. what is the start up/processing fee. Most are fairly cheap but some are $20 dollars and others are $40. 2. is there a difference in savings between general dentists and specialists (such as a periodontist). Most of the time there is, but ask what the difference is. 3. can you pay the membership monthly or does it have to be for a whole year at once. I know the discount plan at www.1Dental.com has a monthly offer, whereas most other dont and want you to pay for a whole year at once. Another thing you can do as well is check out nearby universities and dental schools to see if they have availabilities and would be able to help you. Anyway, i know that is a lot, but explore your options. You can check the university, but if that doesnt work, i would purchase a dental discount plan because you would be able to use it right away. Hope that helps!

What is the most popular/best dental insurance PPO in south florida, St lucie county to be exact?

I'm looking for a good dental insurance plan. One that is not so expensive and preferably with no or <6m waiting period for basic dental such as fillings
--------------------
The all have either a waiting period or a reduced benefit period for both basic and major dental work. You have five options with dental. 1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance. 2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den… 3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With insurance you pay $460 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With discount plans you pay around $827. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

How much of my dental bill will my insurance cover?

i've literally never been to a dentist. i know i have some cavities and i have an idea of how much dental work costs w/o insurance and its going to be quite a high bill to get everything fixed. i live in NY and have Blue Cross Blue Shield as an insurance provider. I just wanted to get an idea of how much dental insurance covers of the actual bill, and the percentage of the bill i should expect to pay out of pocket. thanks
--------------------
If your dentist really wants your business, they will file a "treatment plan" and let you know what your costs would be and what they expect the insurance to pay. So, your best bet would be to talk to the dentist directly.

Will my dental insurance cover braces for me?

I received basic information from my new employer about my dental insurance. I just want to be clear on something. Does this mean my insurance will not cover braces for me, who is well over 19? Here is what I was given: Dental Insurance: $1000 annual maximum per person; Orthodontic services to age 19, $1000, lifetime max. Diagnostic and preventive 100%; 50% Basic and major services.

what are some good dental insurance companies in Eugene, OR?

i have over $7,000 in dental bills and need help BAD paying for it. I dont know much about insurance so I was wondering whats good company to go through?
--------------------
I was in the same boat, I had a 9,000 dollar dental bill to worry about, I was desperately looking for some kind of insurance that will help me pay for it, but unfortunately I was unsuccessful, either there were some kind of probation period or you had to be employed with a company that offered it. There is hope though, there is something called dental plans, instead of insurance. It's basically a discount program, a big discount program, more then 50%, my bill dropped down to about 2500 after I signed up and informed my dentist about the plan I have. Find the best one that suites you, I joined one that participated in a program called DDS, check my source to help search for the best plan for you

What is a good dental insurance/coverage for 50-$100 a month?

What is a good dental insurance/coverage for 50-$100 a month? I need to get some work done on my teeth, hopefully just some fillings redone. Was looking for something that would also hopefully cover a root canal/cap just in case.
--------------------
Contact a local agent that works with several different companies. The agent can help you find a policy in that price range very easily in most parts of the country. Be aware that all plans have a waiting period before you can get some procedures. The average waiting period for fillings is 6 months and for root canals/caps is 12 months. If you can't wait you should try a dental school where you can get good service for a reasonable cost. You can find the nearest school here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den…

What do dentists and hygienists think of a patient who doesn't have dental insurance?

I got a filling done today, and maybe it was just the dental practice I go to, but I felt like everyone was smirking or looking down on me since I don't have dental insurance. I'm in grad school full time & work part time, so I don't have dental insurance, but I paid the bill in full & everything today. Everytime I was asked about insurance & I said I don't have any, I felt like the girls in the office were shooting looks at each other.
--------------------
I worked will patients who didn't have ins. and not all are like you. I would say 60% of people with or without ins. do not pay there balance. I am sure they were showing their concern more than they should have. I am sure after they see that your going to pay they will show their appreciation for a patient like you.

Can I purchase dental insurance and add my daughter even if she has dental coverage through my husband's work?

My work is finally offering dental insurance and I would like to add my daughter, even though she already has dental with my husband. She is already showing the signs of bad teeth (a lovely genetic gift from my side of the family lol!) and I am thinking that if she is double-covered then we may save some money that way. However, I'm not sure how or if this will work. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!!
--------------------
what would be the point? - one of you would be paying for nothing - you can only use one insurance for any one visit/procedure - you don't get double coverage - NEVER allowed - dentist can only send his bill to ONE insurance company

How does dental insurance work?

I currently have Cigna's dental insurance and I went to the dentist a couple weeks ago and got diagnosed with Periodontal disease. the treatment is almost 700 with insurance and I was wondering would it be ok to try and find a dentist that is cheaper in this? I am getting some work done at this dentist already such as fillings and I already got a tooth pulled. I just don't want to, if I don't have to, pay 700 out of pocket! Would it be ok to try to find a periodontist that offers cheaper services?

Do you have to wait before you can use your new dental insurance?

If you get a new dental insurance policy, do they make you wait for a certain period of time before you can get dental surgery (wisdom tooth extraction)? Can you get the policy and then get the extraction done soon after?

It depends on the policy of the health insurances, it could be up to 30+ days. Call the number at the back of the paper, if you want to know.
