Can anyone answer a few questions about how dental insurance usually works?
Generally, after you've had work done at the dentist, then, does the dentist send you a bill or does your insurance company send you a bill? And also, if you have ever had this done, how much does your particular insurance make you pay if you have a dental visit where you need to have a root canal and then a crown and whatever else those require?

If a dentist office failed to completely verify your dental insurance, should you pay for the bill?
I went to a new dentist and thought I was completely covered under my mom's dental insurance. They appearently thought I was too, so I signed a statement which came to $0!!! I didn't have to pay for anything, I'm covered, that's what they told me. Ok, so then I get a call saying I'm not covered at all, so now I have to pay for the whole bill. Am I responsible for their mistake? I have already paid for half.

They look up the info to cover their own @ss from people like you who dont think they should pay for their treatment if they are not covered....they dont look it up for YOU. Had they seen that you were not covered they probably would have billed you upfront.

What's a typical cost for independent health and dental insurance?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of leaving journalism and delving into the world of full-time nannying. Besides being sick to my stomach with corporate America, I hope to one day go back to school for a degree with early childhood education. I love working with kids. I got a filling done today, and maybe it was just the dental practice I go to, but I felt like everyone was smirking or looking down on me since I don't have dental insurance. Can I purchase dental insurance and add my daughter even if she has dental coverage through my husband's work?
My work is finally offering dental insurance and I would like to add my daughter, even though she already has dental with my husband. I currently have Cigna's dental insurance and I went to the dentist a couple weeks ago and got diagnosed with Periodontal disease. the treatment is almost 700 with insurance and I was wondering would it be ok to try and find a dentist that is cheaper in this? I am getting some work done at this dentist already such as fillings and I already got a tooth pulled. I just don't want to, if I don't have to, pay 700 out of pocket!
