Little bit of an odd dental situation?

Hey everyone, Ok when i was in 8th grade (10 years ago now) i was playing football, got hit wrong and my left front tooth broke... had a route canal done, post put in and a crown thrown on top, so about 10 trips to 3 different dentists i got a new tooth. Well the last two days it has hurt like crazy... but not the pain normally associated with teeth, more like a dull pain. i do have a horrible habit that i can't exactly control of griding my teeth in my sleep (i know, i know). I thought it was gone until my girlfriend told me otherwise. I have been meaning to get a night mouth guard my dentist suggested but with no dental insurance being a real estate agent/investor that's been put on the back bumper. I was just wondering from a DOCTOR'S point of view should i be worried about it or should i pay the few hundred bucks to get it examined?
--------------------
If the root canal treatment was succesful, you shouldn't feel pain on the tooth. You definitely should let a dentist check it and have xrays taken on whole mouth. It's possible that the tooth inside broke or traumatized from the metal post being pushed through your grinding habit. But we can never be certain unless we have clinical and dental view of the tooth.

Can Medical cover some of dental work or is it too late?

I currently have Metlife dental insurance and I have already had work done on my teeth. Metlife paid for a portion of the work done but still I had to apply in order to open a credit account with Chase Health Advance to cover what was left over and I still pay out of pocket more than I can afford at the moment =(. I'm going to college and working a bit in order to try to pay for the monthly bill but it's tough. I was wondering if I were to apply for Medical would it cover some if not all of what I have to pay??

No, it will not

Extremely bad toothache. No dental ins. No job. No $$. HELP!!!?

I have an extremely bad toothache its been here for over a year and is extremely painful and I think I may have an absess. I know for a fact there in an infection. I cannot stand it anymore I am in excrushiating pain. I have no job at the moment, I've been looking everywhere and cannot find a job. I am so broke its not even funny and I have no dental insurance. Any ideas? I am in Californoa, San Diego to be exact.
--------------------
It appears that San Diego has some low cost resources that you could consider. Because they use a sliding scale (based on income) if you have no income your services would be at the lowest cost (possibly free). Why not give them a call and check it out: Here's the info from their website: Community Clinics 800-640-1662 A network of nonprofit community-based clinics located throughout San Diego County, provides medical services to individuals with no medical coverage on a sliding scale basis according to income. Some clinics also provide sliding scale dental services. To locate a clinic near you, please call INFO LINE.

Wisdom teeth removal, no insurance, unemployed, inexperienced. What to do?

I'm in my 20s and I have only had insurance through my parents and work in the past. I am currently unemployed, and uninsured and I don't have a dentist. Unfortunate timing for wisdom tooth pain! I really don't know where to start in my quest for relief. I'm getting really confused trying to research dental insurance, dental plans, dentists. I don't know what point to start at! I don't even care if I'm covered for long, I just need help getting all four of these teeth extracted ASAP, they are killing me! What kind of plan or even specific company do you recommend in this situation if you've been here, if you think you have good, informed advice?

What would you prefer, a Government Run free Dental program or black and missing teeth?

All because the insurance companies have priced MOST of us out of coverage.
--------------------
A government run free dental program, obviously. I think all dental care and medical care should be free. The advances made in these fields are gifts to humankind, and money should not enter into them in any way, shape, or form. The poorest of the poor is just as deserving of dental and medical care as the wealthiest. Dental and medical insurance should be UNNECESSARY.

which of these is least expensive to fix my overbite?

i have a overbite, my two top big teeth, are slightly large and crooked, and some of my other top teeth are kinda crooked tpp. Which is least exspensive to get rid of these: invisalign, normal braces, or surgery? I do have dental insurance, so how much would it be with that?? Just a rough estimate is fine. Thanx.
--------------------
I know that invisalign is quite a bit more expensive than normal braces. That is because they are newer and more of a convenience as you can remove them etc. Surgery - if you are talking about getting veneers they can be quite pricey per tooth and often are not covered by dental insurance as it is considered cosmetic surgery. As for your dental insurance, you need to read your policy to determine how much it will cover. Some do not cover orthodontics while others will pay a certain percentage of treatment. Each policy is different so you will need to call your insurance company or refer to you book that you got when you became eligible for benefits if you got one. Both my policy and my husband's cover a percentage of orthodontics (his 80%, mine 60%) but only for children up to 18 years of age..

Does anyone know of a good free dental clinic or low cost one that is in Tampa Fl?

I am having tooth problem and I have no health insurance and am unemployed. Any suggestions anyone?
--------------------
There are dentists in Tampa FL who will reduce their prices significantly if you are a member of a discount plan like dentalservice4less.com. You could save a lot more than the membership costs. It is not for everyone though, you need a method of payment like a credit card, debit or check to enroll online.

How can I get the new Health Plan Insurance ?

I am unemployed & don't have any Health or Dental Insurance. I do have some savings that I can use to buy low cost insurance, hopefully in accordance with new Health Plan bill that passed. I have no idea how to get even started & have few questions. (1) Anyone knows as to how much it will cost for a single ummarried person & how soon can I get it ? If not where can I get all that information ? (2) Would I have to pay any deductibles out of my pocket ? (3) Does it cover dental insurance too or do I have to buy a separate dental plan on my own ? (4) If any of you answer & have a question for me, how do I respond to that ? It seems yahoo answers is not like a forum where you can ask & answer back & forth. Thank You in adavnce for taking time to answer.

Do you think my dental problem can kill me?

I'm 19 years old and I don't have dental insurance. I never went to the dentist as a child...and I've only been a few times in my life because my deadbeat father with insurance doesn't really care about me. I've had two teeth pulled and I need two more pulled. The worse one is a wisdom tooth on the right. It's not even a tooth anymore. It is just the outside with a giant hole in the middle and now a piece of inflammed skin is in the middle. IT KILLS me when pressure is applied to it. Or it hurts for no reason. The gum surrounding it hurts too...it even goes to my ears. Sometimes I have to use a needle and poke the surrounding gum to make it bleed and it relieves the pain somewhat. The tooth on the other side is just as bad but it doesn't hurt as much. I'm not so good at describing it...but it's just soo painful...so horrible. Do you think this can lead to some serious life or death issues?
--------------------
Yes, it can actually. If the pulp of the tooth becomes infected, the infection can spread and kill just like any other infection. It certainly sounds infected to me, so you better get it extracted ASAP. If you cannot afford a dentist and/or are uninsured, look into a free dental clinic or go to the Emergency Room at a hospital.

Do i have dental cap or crown or what?

OK, so ive been reading about caps and crowns which are apparently the same thing, but then when i was reading about how they are made and applied, it doesnt sound anything like what i have. You see, when i was younger (in 5th grade), i chipped about 75% off of my front tooth. The nerve was hanging out and everything, hurt like hell to even breathe. So when i went to get it fixed, the dentist applied a some sort of white "goop" and then he shaped it into a tooth shape. He then used a red light to harden the "goop". Now from what i read, when you get a cap or crown, you go in and they measure where its gonna go, then you leave and they have it made somewhere and then you come back when its ready and they install it. Now that doesn't sound like what i had done to me. When i went in, it was finished in one visit. So do i have a cap or crown or something different? I ask because a piece of it broke off and now i need to see about getting it fixed. Now i don't have any dental insurance so I'm trying to find the cheapest fix possible, like at a dental school or something, but i need to know if this is a cap/crown before i can look for prices about getting it fixed. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
--------------------
This is neither a cap or a crown. What you had was composite filling material to build up the tooth back to it's original form. You can have this repaired by having another composite filling added to the defect where it has chipped, and you can get good aesthetic results with this. This would also be the cheaper option. A crown would be a more complex procedure, and would take more than one appointment. Another option you may want to consider, particularly if your concern is aesthetic only, is a Veneer over the tooth.

Dental x-rays necessary?

I am 29yrs old...I don't have dental insurance, I pay cash for my dentist. My teeth are healthy,no cavities or gum disease or anything like that. Last yr a dentist took 5 yr x ray films, however I changed dentists and she wants to do x-rays in August since it's been a year. It will cost me about $150 or so for the exam, cleaning, and x-rays. My question is, can I decline x-rays and if so will she still do an exam and clean my teeth? I dont feel that x-rays are necessary for my health status and age. Thanks.
--------------------
X ray is take to clear doubts. If the dentist has a doubt that a cavity is forming between two teeth then he will ask for an X ray. Some times manual examination can miss cavities.

Dental implants cost what?

Between my junior year in high school when I got in all 4 wisdom teeth and now I am 31 I have only had dental insurance about a year now. Therefore I've had teeth problems. Anyway I can deal with back teeth problems because its not as obvious to the world but front teeth, no. I lost a top tooth that the one just beside my two front teeth. So I didn't really know what I could possibly expect to pay for an like that one tooth, not as like a denture I could take out but a more permant one. In case any of you want to know this is not from a lack of brushing cause I brush 2x a day and now days often use Crest Mouth Wash.

They had my membership active in 2 hours and was able to use the same day. I am very thankful. Good Luck. Hope this helps

Is it okay to put a dental deep cleaning off a few months? How serious is perio???

I went to the dentist last week because of some pain in the mouth (my wisdom teeth are coming in) and they have me scheduled for extraction on Friday. They also said that I need a deep cleaning because I have perio (HOW SERIOUS IS THIS? DETAILS? ANY INFO ON PERIO WILL BE HELPFUL!!!) After having my wisdom teeth extracted I won't have any more insurance coverage until January, so I can't afford the deep cleaning until then. Is it okay to wait until then? What preventive measures should I take in the mean time? Any information, experience, or web sites will be helpful. I will choose the best answer tomorrow morning before noon EST. The most informative, helpful answer will be chosen. Thank you!
--------------------
A few months? This might depend on how bad your perio problem. If left untreated you can loose your teeth. This usually happens after a long time of neglected dental health. The best way is to ask your dentsit or hygienst if you can wait. Usually you can wait just a little while. If its costs you are afraid of there are some dental credit cards you can check out just to be on the safe side as long as your DDS accepts this form of payment: www.carecredit.com .

How to pay for EXPENSIVE dental work??

How can a single parent find a way to pay for their own VERY expensive dental work? I have Dental insurance (JOKE) through my employer, but it is so poor that most dentists will not file a claim or see me until I have paid for the entire procedure "upfront". Recently my city was listed as THE worst city in the U.S.A. for dental care!! I am in pain almost all the time, I now have two broken teeth that need removal (and bridges), one other needs a root canal, and several with cavities in need of filling. By the time the dentist completed their estimates for all the work they say I need, the total came to $17,000.00!!! Anyone know where I could go for financial assistance to help start my dental work?
--------------------
Here is a link to dental schools in the US, they should have discounted prices: http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/programs/sear… Also, maybe you will have to find a dentist that offers payment plans.

Dental plan?

So I have a lot of work that needs to be done to my teeth. We all have our excuses; I won't bother you with that. I will say that I am dedicated and determined to set my life in order, and while I have already come a long ways (lost 100lbs & kept it off, got a fantastic job, etc), the next step is my teeth that I neglected when I was a teen. While I have taken great care of my teeth for the past few years now, it obviously won't reverse what I've already done to them. I have decided that no matter how expensive or time consuming it is, I will fix my teeth and take great care of them now... before it's too late. My question is.. I have NO dental insurance. I do live in Colorado and live near a company called Comfort Dental. They have something called a "Gold Plan" that has reduced prices. Any of you know about this plan or have any advice?
--------------------
First of all, congrats on the weight loss and the new job!! Good for you that you're getting your life in order one step at a time! I checked out the Gold Plan at Comfort Dental and the fees they charge (gotta love this internet!). In addition to the reduced fees (which are pretty good), a $20 copay is required at each visit. Checkups (including xrays, cleanings) are no charge, again except for the $20 copay per visit. As long as the work you'll be getting is quality and not quantity, then go for it. Just make sure it isn't a 'chop shop' and all they care about is the income. Good luck~

This question is about insurance/billing?

So I finally scheduled my dentist appointment for April 19. I had asked a lot of questions but the facility where I want to go to...make is sound very confusing. So...as a new patient, all I have to do is make sure I bring in my dental insurance card and they will do all the insurance for me. Im guessing...call up the insurance and verify that im a member. Then they said that they usually want payment before any procedures are done. Well... how do I know when to go to the dentist with extra cash to pay up front fees when they have to submit my claims after visits to get the procedures done?! It's so confusing =( Just let me know your experiences on insurance billing and claims for dental work! Thanks!
--------------------
Call your insurance company and ask if there is a co-pay for dental visits. That is probably the easiest thing to do:) It could take a couple of weeks to process the claims from the procedures, so they will send you a bill. Usually, the dentist office will work with you for payments.

Are there other dental treatments that do the job of a porcelain overlay but are less expensive?

One of my teeth has another cavity again. Doc says if she drills the tooth it might not have a significant amount of structure left, so she wants to use a porcelain overlay. This costs 880 dollars 50% of which will be covered by insurance. Is there a similar procedure that will not cost me 440 dollars our of pocket but will do the job? Thanks.
--------------------
Hello...yes there are other options that can be less expensive...."BUT"...you may find your trading cheaper cost for a Veneer that will not last as long...in fact you can pretty well bank on that being the case...you have two basic choices...Plastic/ Composite, which will be guaranteed to wear as you brush on a daily basis, or Porcelain which will most likely give you three to five times the expected longevity...Good luck and I wish you well....Also...having created hundreds and hundreds of Porcelain crowns and veneers as well as plastic/composite appliances....the cost of the Porcelain is well worth the difference....The Denture Pro.

How can I "delay" the infection in my tooth?

I'm pretty sure my last baby tooth (on the side, in the middle-ish) is in the process of getting infected. It's not realy loose yet, just kind of wiggly. I have had infected teeth before, and the pain is terrible, and distracting. It also hinders eating habits. I can't go to the dentist, as we don't have dental insurance (nor will we for 80+ days) How can I delay the infection untill we can get it taken care of?

I use raw garlic it is a natural antibiotic.it stings like hell only for seconds, but it helps the pain.and brings down swelling..but u will smell like garlic for the rest of the day,but then u can chew gum.. :)

How Would I go About Getting my own Insurance?

I'll be 17 in a few months and have not seen my doctor in three years and my dentist in six. My mother refuses to take me because we lost our insurance when I was 13.[Regardless she goes to the doctor three times a year and the dentist just because her tooth is sore or needs a cleaning, etc. And my father goes every three months to both Dr. and dentist and my brother goes to al kinds of doctors and psychiatrists and blood tests and all. Where am I in this? Apparently no where.] I went to my boyfriend's dentist appointment today adn he asked how much a visit would be without insurance and they told him $259 for clean up and X-ray. He didn't asked for teeth puling.[I need appx. six pulled an cavity fillings.] He told me he would pay half if my mother or me come up with the other half. So, I'm just getting sick of being excluded and in pain[physical pain and being sick.] I have a job and I will be moving out in a year, but my health status is getting worse and I can't wait another year. [Been waiting since before middle school and I'll be a Jr this year.] I need to see if I can get a diagnosis for the pain in my joints. [I assume it's the arthritis that runs in my family. All the women get it when they are about my age.] My boyfriend will assist in the payments, so that will help a lot. I'm especially worried about dental right now, health later on. So how do I go about this? What should I look for? My mother won't tell me anything about insurance and my boyfriend doesn't know much about it himself since he is still under his parents insurance through their work because he is in college and living with them still. I would like to ask his parents, but they don't need to know my condition right now.[If they knew, they'd think I'm irresponsible and end up like my mother, which it is the exact opposite.] I know it all depends on the company and whether it is through work or not and all, but I need a general idea.[My work only has it available to managers.]
