Can someone tell me stats about living in Chicago, IL?

I would like to know the following: Cost of (per month) -Food -Gas/fuel -Electricity -Telephone -Water -Clothing -Personal care (including haircut, toiletries etc.) INSURANCE -life -health -dental -auto I would really appreiciate it! Thanks in advance.
--------------------
It varies by area for a lot of those things. Food is expensive at most chain places (Jewel, Dominick's) usually. Places like Aldi or local grocery stores are cheaper. So is shopping for clothes. If you want to shop by brand that's a little more expensive but places like Filene's basement and TJ Maxx have decent stuff if you're willing to look. Toiletries and what not are pretty much the same anywhere. There's a lot of Walgreens and CVS stores in most places. Gas and water are usually included if you're living in an apartment. I don't know how much they are if you're buying a house. I don't know how insurance is compared to other cities. Hope some of this helps

Canadian Dental Procedure Code?

I'm a CDA in British Columbia and I'm now living in California working as an RDA. We have a patient who is visiting and needs insurance forms for her canadian insurance (manitoba to be exact) I'm looking for the canadian procedure code for a porcelain fused to metal crown with a porcelain butt margin. (can't remember if different margins have a different code) If anyone can give me a hand it'd be greatly appreciated :)

cavity problems?

Does anyone know the end result of not pulling out a tooth with a cavity in it (apart from the pain)? i dont have dental insurance and i guess its better to die than pay what dentists usually ask for... the prices are crazy, and i cant really go to india right now for the cheaper dentists...
--------------------
if you can, pay the $100-200 to get it filled...if it's infected already, you need it extracted - maybe $120-180. If you just "Live with" the infection, it could affect your immune system and make you sick in other ways. Worst case scenario - the cavity becomes an infection, the infection abcesses, the abcess becomes a cellulits (swelling) which can theoretically, if ignored, swell enough to close off your airway. Take your pick... along w/ calling welfare, try finding a dental school; this will be cheaper than private dentists...also non-profit clinics exist - i work at one in New Hampshire. I'm amused by the guy who answered "go see your doctor." A lot of people who can't afford a dentist don't have insurance - dental or medical, so they can't do that either. At least in the US....

How should I manage my money?

Ok. So currently I work at Macy's for $7.25 for 8 hours every saturday (in summer I worked 30 h per week). I go to full-time college studying enlglish for foreigners (non-degree program). I will have this until nov 17. I will have 1 month gap before I enroll in regular -degree computer science program. I have balance on my checking account only $1616 left. Now I have obligation to pay $418 on credit card (more than half balance for school supplies and little dining on, transportation). What bothers me a lot is that I do not have healh insurance. I would like to buy it. There is a temporary insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shield for $255 for 6 months - $1500 deductible, $1000 out of pocket limit, 20 % coins. hospitl admision $85. dental discount plan would be included and I do not have this but soon I have to go to dentist to clean my teeth from cavity on 10/20. I calculated if I spent for insurance I will have only $943 left. with no insurance $1198. are the money worth spending for BC?

Packing a lunch can certainly be nutritional. Just pack two sandwiches if necessary. As long as you are filling yourself up, and as long as it's not junk food and contains different food groups, it's nutritional. You could cut your lunch bills in half by packing lunches every day. Trust me, I've done it and done the number crunching. I used to spend $5 on union lunches, then switched to lunches consisting of a sandwich or two, an apple, and a soda. Never buy stuff from vending machines at school. You can buy snacks and sodas in bulk for like a third of the price, then just keep stuff in your backpack for when you get hungry. If you have the time, you should shoot for more like 3 or 4 work days a week, but only if you can maintain your grades while working. As for the health insurance, many colleges offer discounted health insurance through the school, so you should look into that to see if it's a better deal than the Blue Cross Blue Shield.

False Tooth?

I need a pricing variation on false teeth. I need a molar. Either a bridge or a tooth I don't have dental insurance. I have some cash in stash, though.
--------------------
i went to the local dental college, and i found that to be much much much cheaper. you might want to check to see if there is such a critter where you live. the dental college cost me less than half of what a regular dentist wanted even using the dental insurance i had.

Cheap/free dentist in NJ?

Does anyone know where I can find one? Even a dentist that allows payment plans? I think I have a cavity on my top left front tooth. I cannot even brush them without having the worst pain. I do not have dental insurance, and the base of the tooth is kinda black and caving in if that makes any sense. Thanks!
--------------------
You might want to try and see if there are any dental colleges in the area as they will do work like that for free or for a small fee. Contact your public health department as well they may be able to help.

Dentist in Atlanta?

My husband and I are looking for a dentist either in the 85-Clairmont area / Norcross near the perimeter / Vinings (ie near our work or home). They don't need to be cheap just reasonable since our dental insurance covers a lot. They just need to be good. And I don't want to get pushed to cosmetic treatments, just cleanings and fillings and such.
--------------------
You can use the yellow pages or http://www.switchboard.com to find ones in the area and then call the office and discuss fees and philosophies. There is also a GA Dental Assn http://www.gadental.org/ which has a referral service that may be useful,

Filing teeth?

Has anyone really got their teeth filed? How much would it cost average? i have "rabit teeth" and i wanna know if itll hurt and how mcuh it would be? i do have dental insurance if that covers it?>\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
--------------------
i would suggest calling a dentist and asking them the price for the procedure-if you give them your insurance info they can give you an estimate, some dentists can just file them and others may want to do a simple nerve test- its really not too bad ..... as for the filing itself itll be similar to other dental procedure you may have had minus the pain...the dentist just uses an istrument to smooth the teeth down until they look appropriate and maintain your bite sometimes for a day or two you may experience mild sensitivity to hot and cold but nothing to ail over its because even though you have always had the same nerves in your teeth the are suudenly "awake" by the procedure but it wont last it ll partly be becaue theyll feel new and different to you too...Good luck and keep smiling!!!

Teeth feeling wierd?

Ok about a week ago I was telling my g/f that my gums bleed. She said not good and told me to start brushing, flossing and using listerene twice a day, I have followed this regiment and now my gums don't bleed when I brush anymore, but lately my teeth have felt very tight and some of the teeth feel kinda loose. it isn't much but it moves like less then a millimeter and cannot always repeat it. I was just wondering if my gums are kinda of retracting after being swollen all though it was never really bad to begin with. Any idea what maybe going on? I know most of you will say go to a dentist but I do not have dental insurance.
--------------------
Warning signs that you HAVE to see a dentist: *gums are red, and/or noticeably receeding back from teeth *drainage of pus around any tooth *tooth changing color (gray or brown) *pain in or near a tooth that is worse when you drink hot or cold liquids *obvious cavity (dark spot) Otherwise - you might be brushing too hard, try either using an electric toothbrush, or only hold the toothbrush with your thumb and two fingers. Some people are sensitive to listerene (all the alcohol), try a different brand with less/no alcohol. Also, use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth for 2-3 weeks and see if that helps.

Re-Filing Every Claim!?

My famiy has dental insurance with a company that has done us really well until the last couple of years. We have a regular dentist and a pediatric dentist whose offices are having to re-file every single claim submitted in order to get paid. It's really getting to be a pain. Who should I contact of write about this?
--------------------
Contact the number on the back of your card, for member services. Ask them if there's a problem with the dentist - like, are they getting BOTH sets of claim forms, but maybe the first one isn't signed? Or they're forgetting to add procedure codes? If they're only getting one set, perhaps the offices are mailing to an old claims address, and there is now a better mailing address they should be using to submit the forms . . .

Permanent crown fell out! Help!?

My permanent crown fell out after 7 years of having it. How much will it cost to cement it back on with no dental insurance?
--------------------
As long as it can be re-cemented. If there is a problem with the tooth under the crown you may not be able. But if you can then it is around $75. At least that is what it costs at our office.

Gum Odor please help!?

I am having a bad breath odor which seems to be coming from my gums. Nothing I can do will take the odor away. I would see a dentist, but I'm disabled and do not have dental insurance. Is there anything I can do? This is becoming unbearable!
--------------------
Sounds like you have gingivitis. It's caused by plaque build up under the gumline and unfortunately it has to be removed by your dentist.

Question about teeth?

my mother's teeth are very yellow, thats not the biggest problem though. I'm sure she has tons of cavities, but she has one tooth that has broken off a little and she says it feels like its about to fall out. Does that mean its rotten? We do not have enough money to go to the dentist, or no dental insurance. Is there anyway we can prevent it from falling out, or her getting that horrible disease, periodontitis. Please help
--------------------
It may be hard to search for, but try checking your area for local dental schools, as they usually run free clinics. In the meantime, I would recommend to her listerine, and if possible, some peridex (an oral mouth rinse that is generally prescribed to patients with abcess in the gums, usually its prescribed, sometimes not), and brushing and flossing twice a day.

fafsa, change to lower income parent...?

i applied for fafsa since i started college three years ago, and have NEVER been eligable. thing is, i dont even live at home with my mom, i live with my boyfriend, and i live off $500 a month from stipend i get from my scholarship. here's my problem. i want to do "corrections" on my 07-08 fafsa and put that i'm living with my father, who gets low income. i know that if i just use only his income, i will be eligable to get some fafsa. is it ok for me to just put my father's income on the fafsa, and not my mom's and stepdad's, if i dont leven live with any of them and live on my own, to get any amountof financial aid? is it considered illegal to not report my mom's income, even if i'm not living with her? other than medical and dental insurance, i don't get anything else from my mom, no money, nothing, i support myself in every other way. so, can i just make corrections to fafsa and only put my father's income?
--------------------
When your parents divorced, was your mom or dad awarded custody? If it was your mom, then you must legally use her information when completing the FAFSA. If your parents were awarded joint custody - who provided more than 50% of support for you? Again, if it was your mom, then you must legally use her information. At this point you cannot make corrections and change from your mother's income to your father's. You could try and complete a special circumstances appeal with the financial aid office, but unless there are extenuating circumstances as to why you need to change, then it will most likely be denied. Sorry! Talk to a financial aid officer at your school for more information/guidance. Good luck!

my teeth are crooked..?

my mom doesnt have dental insurance and i need to go to the orthodontist because i know i need braces and my parents will never be able to pay for it. what should i do? is there a way to get free braces and consultations? in hendersonvill nc
--------------------
Unfortunately, I do not know anywhere that offers free braces. Most offices offer a free consultation. Dental colleges offer cheeper orthodontic work because the residents are training to become orthodontists. (Don't worry these residents are already dentists going back to school and they work under the supervison of a Orthodontist.) There are also financial assistance programs that are like medical credit cards. Our office uses CareCredit, and we have many patients who use it. It has no interest for a year as long as you make the minimum payments. Many offices also have their own financial systems. Hope I helped! :)

I need front teeth?

Churches help out with a lot of different things. Tell them your situation and see if they can't help. There might be a dentist that will help out in the church. You never know until you try.

What happened here?

I met a man and we proceeded to know each other. He told me G-d had answered his prayers with me, promised to spoil me,make me blissfully happy and as soon as I agreed he changed gears and proposed friends with benefits. I did not agree and did not sleep with him(still havent) and we remained just friends but talking as if we were bf/gf even about real state we could share as a couple. I had some money left over from a loan and he started telling me about his lack of dental insurance & other financial problems. I said I could not help because I lost my job and need the money to survive until I get a job but maybe we could live together/share expenses to help each other out. He e-mailed me to back the F--k off that I was never his woman and since it is obvious I feel I am being led on by his calling or picking up the phone, we will not even speak and he has not answered not returned my calls. What happened here? How did I go from dream girl to nightmare?
--------------------
Just a case of smooth talker. A guy will tell you anything he can just to get what he wants, not all guys of course, you will find the right one, most likely when you are not looking. Notice his reactions, all he wanted was sex and/or money. I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone else. Sorry honey. I myself have been caught by one of these men, but don't worry they all get what's coming to them.

No money, wisdom tooth infected?

and I do have Medical AND Dental insurance, great health care my work has huh? What in God's name can I do, short of having to pay $1400 to completely fix it? I don't have the money, and I can't bear this pain any more. It's awful. I am nearly sure it is infected
--------------------
Your health coverage won't cover the removal of a wisdom tooth? Why "Fix" it when it is better to just yoink the unneeded tooth? Where are you located? (City) You could always call up a clinic I go to here in chicago and ask if they have any recommendations for community clinics in your area... I go to Howard Brown: www.howardbrown.org I'm in Chicago but there has to be a national number they could recommend... Either find a free clinic in your area or go to County and see what they can do for you... Any chance you can work out a payment plan with your dentist?

Help!! I see my wisdom tooth coming in?

Geeez I'm 20 years old I thought I was done teeth growing in.. Why is this one coming in now? Is this normal? What should I expect when it grows in? I don't have any dental insurance..
--------------------
Your at the right age for wisdom teeth to come in... I didn't get mine pulled till I was 24. What to expect.... Hmmm.. Depends on how they are laying in your jaw... All 4 of mine were on thier sides, and when they came in, my mouth didn't have room to accomodate, so they pushed forward on my molars causing discomfort and MAJOR swelling of my gums back there... No biggie though, when they start to hurt is when it's time to get them pulled... My mom's came in perfectly straight and she's 55 now and still has them... So it just depends.... As far as insurance goes, I have a really good dental plan that saved me a TON of money when I had to get mine pulled.... Check them out, maybe they can help you too... www.savondentalplan.com

Root Canel or pulled tooth?

hi guys..heres my story. I went to the dentist a couple months ago for some work. Now they want to do a couple root canels as well as crowns. One tooth is so bad (tooth # 15, upper left molar tooth) they want to pull it. Another one is tooth #4 which is a bicuspid. Another one is tooth #6 which it says its an anterior. Tooth #11 (anterior) tooth #21 (bicuspid) tooth #30 and #31 (both molars) I don't have much money. In fact, I have really bad dental insurance, and I have only a $1000 CareCredit Card, which is maxed. Difference between root canels/crowns and a pulled tooth is literally a thousand dollars or more. I want to get this done as soon as possible but can't due to the money. I want to get braces asap. Would the dentist be willing to pull any of these teeth like the back molars? any input would be greatly appeciated thanks!
--------------------
get some second opinion, your teeth may not need all of that procedures.
