anyone know where to get good individual dental insurance thats effective immediatly?

I need my wisdom teeth removed but have no insurance, most individual insurance companies have a 6 month waiting period for procedures other than preventitive. I need them out now because one was infected and I got it treated with antibiotics but Im afraid it will come back because it keeps bleeding. Any help will do and I am in florida.
--------------------
Nope. Why would anyone sell you insurance and immediately cover a pre-existing condition? This is like shopping for medical insurance when you are 6 months pregnant. I hate, hate, hate to say this, but since you said, "Any help will do," you might be someone who should look into a dental discount plan. Bear in mind that it is NOT insurance and you may have to go to a dentist that you don't like to take advantage of the discount, but you might be able to pick up a discount plan and get your wisdom teeth out and then dump the plan. I'm sure someone representing one of those plans will come along and pitch their product in response to your question.

What's the Catch? (Dental insurance buffs) Why go with a PPO over a HMO?

So I've been researching dental insurance in my area. (S. Florida Metro - Ft. Lauderdale/Miami/Palm Beach) I've received a quote from a dental HMO that provides the following; Individual Premium per month - 11.95$ No Wating Period No Plan Maximum No Deductable. As examples of coverage; Cleanings are no charge. Fillings for one surface are 25$ for composite fillings. Standard silver fillings are no charge. Crowns run between 245$-300$ Endodontics/Root Canals run between 110$ and 345$ Periodontic services run between 110$ and 300$ for surgical services. Non surgiacal periodontic services run between 38$ and 65$ Dentures and bridges are fairly priced between 300$ and 425$ Extractions run between 30$ and 100$ The only place they really get you is with orthodontics. Now let's look at a PPO. Individual Coverage is between 30$ and 42$ a month for basically the same services between plans, with large waiting periods, tiny plan maximums, and really not that great of coverage. (Cont.)
--------------------
Great question. I recently was stuck trying to decide between the two. I chose the PPO just cause that's what everyone else has in the office. But the more I kept comparing the two, I couldn't understand why you pay more with a PPO if the HMO gave you more coverage. I guess I feel better about the PPO cause I get a wider range of doctors and I can go outside the network if I wanted to. That seems to be the only advantage.

Will someone explain medical and dental insurance to me?

ive never had either and wasnt raised to know all about them. I undersand that you pay each month for each... but what does it cover? Is there a limit or something? do you have to be paying a couple months before you can get something done? so curious and confused. Thank you so much.where do you get medical and dental??
--------------------
here's what insurance is- you paid a little each month so that if you have an accident, or need a doctor, the insurance covers it. not all companies are good though! some are cheating, lying bastards. some times there is a waiting period for coverage, sometimes not. insurance companies have what are called plans. these plans are like cell phone plans. you choose what you can be covered for, ei. self injury may or may not be covered. the company may only pay to a certain extent, or the company may even drop you the second you need them for no reason. it's almost impossible to answer this question fully on YA. isolate what coverage you thing you will need, and what you think you will be covered for. such as- high blood pressure runs in the family, so i have chosen better coverage in case of a heart attack than if i get shot (which probably won't happen). different companies charge different rates for plans and some have sneaky fees. look around on the net for "customer reviews" of insurance companies, the customers are honest, and don't trust a single provider for a second. btw, i have state farm auto, dental, and health insurance. they are low cost and nice folks. as a general rule, the better there commercial or the flashier the commercial, the worst the company. (geiko and esurance suck @$$) i'm sorry i couldn't help more

If someone already has braces but presently no dental insurance, can they purchase dental insurance?

so that they can get their braces looked after and adjusted properly ?
--------------------
Yes. And a good plan would be Ameriplan if I may suggest it. The website is www.urdentalmed.com. Hope I was helpful.

Is there any such thing as good dental insurance?

if so, where?
--------------------
not really unless it is an employer funded and administrated plan (employer just pays the costs up to a set amount) or you are a member of certain unions like some wisconsin teachers have WEA Trust which is very good in comparison to regular dental insurance plans. Flexible Spending plans are very nice if you can get a treatment plan from your dentist for the work you need you can prepare for it. Dental insurance doesn't really protect you from expenses, just helps you pay a little less.

what does this mean in respect to dental insurance: 18 month waiting period applies; 50% Coinsurance after ded?

deductible. Does this mean I have to pay them insurance for 18 months before I can get work done and on top of that they will only pay for half?
--------------------
This means you have a waiting period on a specific service in other words you cannot have a specific service paid for during the first 18 months while you are covered. this is most common with major work like Crowns bridges and dentures. for example my Dental Insurance began Jan 2010 my insurance will not pay for my crown until July 2011, 18 months after My insurance took effect. For the second Part of the question "50% coinsurance after ded". this is usually a different benefit detail more than likely relating to major procedures again like Crowns, Bridges and dentures. in most cases it really doesn't affect one or the other in other words the 18 month WP does not affect how my crown will get paid its just how my insurance covers my crown on July 2011 it will be covered at 50% after I have met my deductible. deductible can range anywhere from $25 dollars to $200.00. on most plans you only have to pay the deductible one time a year the first time you have a service that the deductible applies to like the above example.. the crown.

can I buy dental insurance now when I need so many procedures done?

I just lost my insurance from my mom's work because she got fired. now I'm left with needing 4 root canals, all my wisdom teeth pulled out and I dont know what else. I DON"T have money for any of this
--------------------
You have to find a dentist who will take installment payments or payment arrangements. Otherwise, you can contact a dental school if there is one where you live and do the same thing but have an evaluation first. The cost will be according to your parents income. You can also apply for Medicaid if you have no money and your mom is not working. Now is the time to do that because your dental problems sound urgent. If you are under 21 you should have no problem getting Medicaid. Dental insurance does not help because of the waiting periods and a dental plan is all you could afford does not pay much. There are dental plans and dental insurance but neither one covers much and you still have to pay most of the charges, so try to get Medicaid or whatever program is in your state for minors. From now on, take care of your teeth because dental work is very, very expensive.

Severe toothache with no dental insurance...What can I do?

I have a severe toothache, and do not have dental insurance, also currently I am unemployed, only attending school full time. Can I still go to the dentist, or will I be turned down. What can I do about seeing a dentist ASAP! The pain is so intense I feel almost like passing out. Please Help!
--------------------
I would definitely start with the school health clinic - they might at least be able to get you something for the pain. They also might be able to recommend a good dentist who would work with you on payment plans. Good luck! I know how it is to be a full-time student with no job or insurance! I relied on the health clinic!

How come there is never any good dental insurance offered by an employer? Why can't they pay 90%....?

health insurance does? You have to pay so much out of pocket for dental work, it's terrible. What's the reason?
--------------------
I think that dental treatment is generally non-catastrophic where health can be. There are dental conditions that can create life threatening conditions but most dental work is either preventive or restorative. It is not just the percentage paid is lower, the yearly limit they will pay is usually only between $1,000.00 to $2,000.00. In most cases, companies that purchase dental insurance for their employees, would be better off if they self insured and set up their own set of benefits where they reimburse their employees directly for pre-determined dental charges. I you are paying for your own dental insurance, it is usually better in the long run for you to cancel the insurance and just put that amount of money in the bank every month so that you can pay the treatment yourself. Most of us don't need major work every year and even when we do, the insurance is not that helpful and when it does pay for most of the work it is because the particular plan is very expensive.

Are dental hygienists offered group health insurance or do they always have to get their own?

Are dental hygienists responsible for their own health insurance or is it common place to have the employer (aka dentist) offer group plans? With some past medical history I am finding it hard to find individual plans without denial or outrageous premiums (planning to go through DH school and need insurance for that) Anyone?
--------------------
Depends on whether you are an employee or an independent contractor. Most dentists hire hygienists as independent contractors which mean they have to get their own health insurance. The ADA might have some group health plans - check them out. HTH

Can a dental office not submit claims to insurance by choice?

I saw a dentist in 2004. I had dental insurance and provided this information to the dental office. I never heard anything after that but changed dentists due to location. I get a copy of my credit report last month and see there is a collection for this dentists office. I contact them direct and was told my insurance denied the claim. My coverage was active at the time of service conducted. I called the insurance carrier and was told the dental office NEVER even submitted the claim to them. So, the dental office is going to submit the claim to the insurance now but says they still can charge me the fee that it cost them to turn it over to the collection agency. i dont feel this is right because the $38 fee would never had to happen if the dental office had submitted the claim like they were supposed to. I was referred to this dental office by the insurance company's website so I know they accepted the insurance. Is this a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act somehow?
--------------------
Many health care professionals file an insurance form as a courtesy to the patient. However, they are not required to do so. If you were referred by the insurance company website, the dentist had an agreement with that carrier to accept their usual and customary fee. It may or may not have had a requirement to submit the forms for the patient. However, that agreement would be between the provider and the insurance carrier. Your best bet is to contact the insurance company, since their website did the referral. They are more likely to refund the fee than the dentist's office. If you took them to small claims court it would cost you more than you would recover and you would probably spend a fortune trying to get the dental office to pay you. The BBB is really a farce. They take reports, but when you call them to find out about a compnay all they will say is they have or have not received reports about them. The BBB will not disclose what was reported- good or bad. You might try your state insurance commissioner.

Will dental insurance cover invisible braces?

I'm in really need for braces. My teeth aren't in really bad sharp. But it's not really that attractive. I heard that sometimes they will decline you. Because it's more cosmetic. So you'll have pay up from you own pocket. But people with somewhat or bad shape teeth. Will those people be covered?
--------------------
I would contact the insurance office. They might cover you. Especially since having crooked teeth can lead to decay and consistent dental problems. My lower teeth were so close that i couldnt even fit floss between them and they were chipping. I wasnt covered but I never had dental insurance. Make a case for yourself that the placement of your teeth is impacting proper oral hygiene. I dont know how bad your teeth are but its worth a shot. Maybe they will pay a portion of it. Good luck and happy brushing!!

Getting braces, need some info about dental clinics and dental insurance.?

Hello, I am getting braces soon, I live in Seattle, WA. I would like to find out a clinic that does braces it doesn't have to be at Seattle, I practically can go far distances from Seattle. Could anyone recommend me a dental place or clinic to get my braces and an appropriate and good insurance for that clinic that would work. Could someone explain to me how all this works, because I've got no clue what and where.
--------------------
Hi, Why don't you search online to find best dentists near your residence? I think it would be a great idea. So my piece of advice is: 1) Get a lucrative discount dental plans. They have increasingly been useful and act as a handy alternative to dental insurance. 2) searching best dentists near your residence and get discounts on specialty services such as braces, and other dental equipment etc. It will help you to get rid of your dental maladies at astonishing rates.

I have a friend who has no insurance & needs emergency dental work. Can he apply thru the state for coverage?

My friend has had some really bad tooth aches lately. He had a crown and it fell out. Now he needs his tooth taken out but has no insurance. How does he go about getting emergency dental coverage thru the state (MI)?
--------------------
Trying any state programs will take some time. You may want to try a dental clinic if your friend has Med-care or something similar, the clinics will take this type of coverage and do have sliding scales for payment. But again the dental clincs are booked months in advance so it could take some time to get an appointment. You could try to see if Dentist take CARE CREDIT which is a like a dental credit card. If you can pay off the balance within 12 months it is ZERO % APR or you can opt to have an extended payment plan of up to 60 months with an APR of 11.9% (which is lower APR than most credit cards). If your friend has low or bad credit they could get a co-applicant. But by all means get to a dentist ASAP. If your friend is having a tooth ache it could be bad decay into the tooth needing a Root Canal and since the tooth is in a weak state it will need a crown over the Root Canal tooth. For the tooth that lost the crown, it could mean there is so much decay under the existing crown that it has "eaten" away the "glue" . But get to see a dentist with a FULL exam and FULL x-rays so the dentist can diagnosis ALL problems. Some Dentists will give up to 50% off new patients. But make sure to get a FULL exam AND FULL MOUTH x-rays (not just bite-wings also called BWX). Hope all goes well.

i am looking for dental insurance or a discount plan that can help me get tooth implants!!?

due to an illness, I recently lost all my teeth and want to replace them with dental implants. i have been shopping online for coverage to help me with this cost but with all the choices its difficult to pick the one that would cover the most. can someone help me find an insurance or dental plan in western new york please?
--------------------
I'm not familiar with what's offered in your area, but you're right, it's tricky to navigate. Most insurers' web sites have convenient side-by-side plan comparisons. Or, you may want to use an agent to help you make the right choice. Questions to ask: Are you restricted as to which dentists you can use? What is the waiting period for major work? Monthly premium / deductible / co-insurance Good luck!

In San Jose CA, what is the ball-park price for oral surgery of an impacted wisdom tooth, no dental insurance?

This oral surgery is for my nephew, a student who has no dental insurance. It is a requirement prior to joining the Peace Corps.
--------------------
Call the dental school at UC SF. You might get a deal if he is willing to be a practice patient for a student. They have a teacher - who is a very competent dentist - standing at one elbow, so if anything goes wrong the teacher steps in. It takes longer than normal, though.
