Please help me get health and dental insurance?

I am 20 years old and make about $250/week (bi-weekly checks vary from about $420-520 after taxes). I am in desperate need of health insurance and I badly need dental coverage. This is horrible, but I need at least 5 fillings maybe more. I have weak enamel and I am prone to cavities. As you can tell I don't make a hell of a lot of money (and I work almost every day, but of course my hours were recently cut because the owner decided to hire a family member and pay them twice as much to sit on their *** and tell me to do the stuff I already do on my own initiative, then ***** that payroll is too high) I have to pay car insurance and constant car repairs until I can just replace it with one that won't need so much tlc and money. This makes it pretty hard to save when I keep on paying to fix things. I have a phone bill to pay as well and I do not have a house phone so it is necessary to keep in touch with family and work. Please help me figure out how to get the best coverage possible that will be affordable on a teeny budget. I really am in desperate need. Thank you so much!

I would encourage you to visit this great website: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago when I was in college and they have saved me thousands of dollars over the years on all services. From extractions, cleanings, xrays, fillings, exams..etc. They even had my extremely affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Also try to work out a payment plan with the dentist, if not, then also do what I did...I had carecredit and paid a monthly payment. I know its not easy, but taking it one tooth at a time helps on spending. Hope this helps

What is the estimated cost of dental care without dental insurance?

My teeth are causing me a lot of bother, both of the physical kind and the psychological kind. My back molars are rotting and in fact one of my fillings from an older filling fell out so there's a hollow in my tooth. Sometimes I get a dull ache in the side of my face going up to my head on that side of my mouth. I also have sore spots on my teeth on the other side which I primarily chew with. I need major dental care because my teeth are rotting, they look bad, and it affects my confidence. I'm a 23 year old girl just out of college without insurance and this is ruining my life. Please help me out. I need help finding cheap insurance and ways to pay, and an idea of what I will have to do and how much it will cost.

I am trying to find affordable dental insurance in Northern VA that's not with my job. Anybody know any?

I basically maxed out my dental insurance I have with my job because I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I still need different things done like filling cavities and a cap. I need to find another affordable insurance company to sign up for quickly so I do not cause too much harm to my teeth. Ive had painful tooth aches to the point that I have had to get root canals and have teeth pulled so I am really hoping to find something quick before it ever gets that bad. Please help!

Can I or should I get dental insurance?

My dentist told me that I need to have six fillings before getting braces (at least $100 per tooth); on top of that, the orthodontist I went to suggested that I have four to six teeth pulled before the braces are put on. I'm looking at a cost of $1000.00 or more total before braces. I can get on a payment plan, but am thinking about dental insurance. Is it worth getting? Is there any low-cost insurance that would cover the fillings and tooth extraction? No scams, please, if possible. ;)

Is it possible to have more than one dental insurance?

On November 1, I'll be enrolled in the dental insurance offered by my husband's employer. I have to have several thousand dollars' worth of work done on my teeth. Is it possible (legal??) to get my own individual coverage in addition to what his employer offers? If so, how does that work? For example, suppose I have a tooth extracted and my husband's insurance company says that my portion out of pocket is $50, but I have this additional insurance plan. Will the second insurance company pick up the tab for that $50, or will I still have to pay out of pocket? How does it work?
--------------------
Yes, it is possible - but like health insurance, the benefits are not additive. One insurance will be primary payer and the other will be secondary. Google "coordination of benefits."

Are Active Duty soldiers covered with Dental insurance?

I know they get health insurance through Tricare, but how does Dental work? Also, are you eligible for using the health & dental care after you enlist, or after you've started Basic Training? I've been having tooth pain, and I was wondering whether it's worth it just to wait until I've been enlisted (I'm in the process of enlisting anyway) to see a dentist. Otherwise, I could ask dad to pay out-of-pocket but it wouldn't be cheap. One other question - does military Dental also cover endodontist treatment (such as root canals)?
--------------------
yes but only once you have shipped to basic training, not while in DEP. they will only take care of medically necessary stuff, so cosmetic braces are NOT covered ( or even permitted if you pay for them yourself in many circumstances.. you must be non deployable the entire time they are suppsoed to be on.. so only very long schools usually) in any event.. have it looked at anyway. the tooth pain cause may Disqualify you from enlisting until it has been taken care of.

Is dental insurance worth it?

I've heard from some people that it's actually cheaper to pay out of pocket. Has anyone ever calculated it out and seen if it's worth the money or would it be more cost effective just to pay out of pocket?
--------------------
It depends on your policy and your history, and your dental needs. You pay premiums and copays when you have insurance, and most insurances pay out a total of $1000- $1500 per yr, per person. Obviously, if you dont have alot of dental problems and only have to see your dentist 2x a year for check ups, that cost is about $250.00. If you pay more than that in premiums, its better to pay our ot pocket. But if you have alot of dental needs, insurance can be a benefit but remember there is a maximum they pay per year, and once that is met, any additional cost is an out of pocket charge to you as well.

Im in the national guard and im trying to get Tricare but I dont know who to call.?

I just need the number to a tricare representative so that I can start gettin Tricare health insurance. Does tricare cover everything? Is dental separate? How much does Tricare cost and is it worth it?
--------------------
Tri-care is a great benefit to being in the guard now. It provides affordable health care coverage to single and soldiers with families. This booklet http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/Downloa… should provide you with all the information that you are looking for. For a single soldier the cost is around 80 dollars and for a soldier with family it is around 250 per month. Dental is offered through United Concordia and is in addition to this benefit. http://www.tricaredentalprogram.com/tdpt…

Why do we bother with repairing natural teeth and why isn't it covered on regular insurance?

This seems like a very silly question to which I'm sure there will be a lot of silly attempts at answering. However, I am seriously wondering why we bother with repairing teeth. It is nice to have our own teeth, but with the way that they rot and contain nerve endings for current practical reasons unknown to me, if any (what reason we keep the nerves, not why they rot)...it seems silly to bother with putting fillings in them that end up in needing resealing and refilling. Why not just kill the nerves that go up into the teeth, extract the affected tooth, make a mold and with that mold make a synthetic tooth as a replacement? Why do we need to keep patching these inefficient, high maintenance parts? It wouldn't bother me at all to just get rid of the nerves that go into the teeth. What do they really serve that the rest of the mouth can't tell us? The second part to the question is why is dental always apart from regular medical insurance? Do I get hand insurance because they're used more than most every other part of my body? No, why does dental get separated?
--------------------
The synthetic teeth you ask about are called implants. They are painful to have put in, painful to have to pull out the old tooth and cost around $2 to $3 thousand each. Very expensive mouth. Filling a tooth well costs about $2 to $3 hundred and can last 30 to 40 years. You can buy separate dental insurance. It's not included in most policies bacause everyone would get a one year policy, run up a huge dental bill and cancel as it's not usually an ongoing danger like the rest of our bodies.

Am I receiving proper dental care or am I being mistreated?

I've always been leery of dentists and something never felt right. I've had bad experiences but I need answers. I've been going to this dentist for 2 years now. I started going to him originally because the dentist I went to before packed a cavity, the filling fell out a week later, he repacked it sloppy while cursing up and down, 3 yrs later badly infected tooth. So this dentist I've been going to for 2 years starts by fixing my infected tooth and gave me a root canal. He was so friendly and polite, I trusted him. I never trusted a dentist before that. I regret it now. So after my first cleaning he puts this stick against my teeth that has a small red dot light on the end to see if I have cavities. He tells me I have eight!! So its now two years later and he has done 10-12 of my teeth, 4 of my husbands, prescribed me a night-guard (when I know for a fact I don't grind my teeth and there are no signs of me grinding my teeth) and before him I only had two cavities filled. Now before him those two cavities were silver fillings, he has done all my fillings since then and their all white fillings. A filling he did last year fell out of my back tooth this october. He got me in his office 24-48 hours later and filled it. I said, "This is the filling you did why did it fall out". He tells me, "I didn't do that filling!" Now I saved the filling when it fell out, I felt it, it was loose for a while. The filling was the size of a pin head. Now when he was drilling the whole I felt like he was struggling with it, or drilling it more than needed to be done. So I go home look at it my tooth is gone for the gum line to almost the bottom on that on side?!?! From a pin hole to that? Not only that, there is a slit the size of my nail (because my nail fits in there) of open space between my tooth and the gum line that's exposed for water and food to get in and it hurts. Now me and my husband never had tooth sensitivity before, but since he did our teeth it comes and goes no matter how much time passes. So from the beginning my husband warned me to find another dentist that this one is money hungry. And I ignore all the signs, saying, " He's a nice professional, has up-to-date equipment, and its hard to find a good dentist their all butchers." Boy, was I right! I really woke up with his attitude and the way he drilled this tooth. Then I look back at all the facts. Now his secretary is trying to charge a yearly deductible. My insurance says I have no "dental yearly deductible in or out of network". This secretary argues it being rude saying stuff like, "I could tell you were a tight *** when I talked to your over the phone!". That comment was in regards to her sending a FINAL notice to my house saying I owe $30 dollars from 7 and a half months ago? And that if I don't pay they have the right to start charging %20 interest and they'll turn it over to a collection agency. I never even got a phone call before that. Then she says its $60 dollars, then oh wait, no $30 again. Then she bills the wrong insurance trying to get a hundred some dollars. All the while saying stuff to me like, " Look, I don't need to hear you just pay what you owe, I know you called a week ago I didn't return it because you should just pay, Your a liar you didn't talk to your insurance company, etc." So I get an insurance representative to finally call her, she says" no we never asked her to pay a yearly deductible"!!!!!!! BS And this secretary just started this summer, the old one I never had a problem with. I always pay right away and on time. This new secretary accused the old one of stealing? I do not believe her because she's always changing her story. So my questions are, what kind(s) of action can I take? Did he mess up that tooth I was talking about because I feel its gonna lead to a root canal? Can anyone recommend a good dentist in philadelphia? I am so consummed with anger its not even funny. I've been crying and stressed out relentlessly. I feel I'm going to loose my tooth by the time I'm forty. He took my health for profit, you can't replace that. How cruel is that!! I do not deserve to be treated like that by him or his secretary! What can I do?
--------------------
wow... okay... first, you can never know for sure if you're grinding while you're sleeping. stress can cause you to grind while you're asleep. since you already have the night guard, i would just advise you to keep using it. second, sometimes, cavities can be overlooked. maybe when you went to this dentist, he found some cavities that were undiagnosed by the previous dentist. third, replacing silver filling with white fillings is good since the white material doesn't contain mercury. now, to the tricky parts... pin sized filling fell out? maybe a piece broke off as opposed to the whole filling falling out? but he shouldn't have drilled more... that's where my issue is. he maybe would've drilled for like 2 seconds, but not a lot. the secretary is a dumba*s. you need to report her to the dentist, the manager, the better business bureau. also, if you believe your dentist is doing unlawful and unethical things... report him to the dental board of your state. i don't want to justify anything he did, but after reading more into it, your story did start to seem like they were money hungry. but the beginning does seem right...

need dentures or at least partials in front. no insurance?

I am looking for resources, or insurance i can purchase that will cover me in getting either dentures or to get a partial to replace my top and bottom front teeth. I have no insurance as my job does not offer it, and living in arizona the public aid doesnt cover dental on anyone over 21. I have been in a car accident and have for real problems with my front teeth. Having them replaced would be a huge life saver for me. if anyone knows of any resources please help a sista out :p my preference would be to get partials to replace my front top teeth at least..
--------------------
You have four options with dental. 1. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. 2. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a full upper denture in my area is $1252. With insurance you pay $626 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 3. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - with discount plans you pay around $1125. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 4. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - with fee for service plans a full upper denture in my area will run as low as $518. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

How come my boyfriend pays so much more for health insurance than I do?

My boyfriend and I both just got full-time 40-hours-per-week 9-5 jobs. This is after 5 years of working in bars and restaurants while going to school. After I graduated we both got jobs and 3 months later our employee health insurance kicked in. I've never been covered by an employer before but I was surprised when I learned that it would only cost me about $1/paycheck for health, life, and dental. My boyfriend's health insurance kicked in a little after mine and his costs him $40/paycheck! Why does his cost so much more than mine? We both work for private companies, though mine is a bit bigger than his, neither are extremely big. What's the difference? Is his company just cheap?
--------------------
There are so many variables here. Generally speaking, if you are young, his insurance should be cheaper than yours because you are a woman of childbearing age. It sounds like your employer plays 100% of your premium, whereas his employer only pays a percentage of his. Or he may have better insurance than you do. Do you know what his or your deductibles are or what your co-insurance is? Like my deductible is $500 and my co-insurance is 20% of the final medical bill. Edit: Considering you are both healthy, a young man's health insurance is far cheaper than a woman's so the other posters are wrong about that. But if your boyfriend is on medication or has some sort of disease like diabetes or high blood pressure, then his will be higher. For example, my husband and I are 30, both healthy. His insurance is $90/month and mine is $390/month! Ok, then it sounds like either your employer just pays more (all) of your premium and his only pays a percentage of his. That or his plan is better meaning he could have a much lower deductible and lower co-insurance. It's good that you both have PPOs. His actually isn't that high. You just got an awesome deal. Consider yourself very lucky.

What does my health plan mean by dentist number?

I'm applying for health insurance through my job. One of the options comes with a dental plan for a little extra which isn't a problem. It says to check the box next to the plan you want. Next to that it asks for a dentist # the box is not big enough for a phone number. So I'm a little confused. Do I try to fit a phone number in there and hope for the best, or do dentists have specific ID number.
--------------------
All dentists have a unique provider number which represents them, and their place of work. Your health insurance is likely asking for that number. If you give your dental office a call, they can provide you with the detail for your dentist.

What is a good affordable health plan to get?

I am a single 25 year old healthy male. Are there any truly affordable health plans out there for me? And don't say that $300 a month is affordable, because its not. I don't need any major medical coverage. I haven't had insurance for 6 years and haven't been to the doctor in those six years. However, my eyesight isn't great, so vision coverage would be good. I also want dental coverage as well. Any suggestions?
--------------------
I think it's cheaper to pay cash, insurance is merely a coupon.

How much is a dental implant? (in the US)?

I've been missing one of my molars for several years and am considering an implant. I was wondering how much they cost. I don't think my insurance will cover the implant but will cover the crown so how much do they each cost?
--------------------
Basic implants are $1,250-$3,000 each, but the total cost can escalate to $15,000-$30,000 depending on location, complexity and the need for bone or gum restoration work, according to DentalResources.com.Many dentists provide financing because most insurance doesn't cover implants. What should be included: For those missing one or more teeth, a titanium screw or post is surgically implanted into the bone of the jaw. AboutCosmeticDentistry.com describes three basic types of implant procedures. Implantation requires a full surgical team and healing may take three to six months. Once the area is healed, a crown is placed on the implant. The implant is considered permanent; the crown may be replaced as needed over the years.

How much would it cost to fix a chipped tooth?

My front tooth has always looked like its chipped even though its not, but how much would it cost to make it look right? I don't have insurance and so I am also wondering if I would be charged for a consultaion with the dentist and for how much. Also would be cheaper to go to a place like western dental or a small dentist place? Thanks.
--------------------
any dentist can do this all they will do is shave the chip a little and bond on some tooth colored composite and smoothen it out it will look very natural.im a dental assistant we do this all the time and my front tooth is chipped and it was fixed 8 years ago and still going never changed colors or anything...it shouldnt cost no more than 200 and if they charge you for a consultation it shouldnt be no more than 50-100 dollars and that money should get applied to what ever you have done so if you pay 100 for the consultation and the filling is 200 you should only owe another 100...i say go for it..it makes a complete difference

What's the process to repair a hole in my Maxillary sinus bone and what's an idea of what it will cost?

Do they have to do some kind of skin graft? While extracting some upper teeth my dental surgeon made a large hole there. Now sinus infection is constantly leaking straight into my mouth. I don't have insurance.
--------------------
The gum tissue is usually pulled over the hole opening into the sinus 9 the oral-antral fistula) and you will be given antibiotics and special instructions to follow. This is considered oral surgery and if you have medical insurance, it will be covered. Ask the oral surgeon agout costs and possible insurance coverage. Good luck.

When do kids need to start going to the dentist?

I have an 18 month old and I'm starting to fill out my insurance for next year and I needed to know if I needed to add him to my dental. When did you start taking your kids to dentist? Thanks.
--------------------
The dentist I went to said 2, but we moved and I asked 2 different dental offices and they both told me to bring my daughter in when she's 3. They said by 3 she'll have all her teeth in. Which makes more sense to me because my daughter will be 3 in December and is just now getting her last top set of 2 year molars in. So I'll take her in when she turns 3.

Are braces appropriate at age 51?

I had 2 lower teeth extracted when I was 14. My parents did not take me back for more dental work. One tooth was on the left and the other on the right. When I was 28 I had a bridge placed on the lower left but not on the right. Now all my bottom teeth have shifted and the spot of the missing tooth touching the teeth beside each. I went to the dentist for my 6 month checkup and they referred me to an orthodontist. Am I to old for wishful thinking that my teeth can look better? My self esteem is so low because of my teeth. Also, I have a fairly good dental insurance 1250 a year, but not sure if they will cover this. any suggestions?
--------------------
Go ahead and get the braces. I'm 47 years old and I'm thinking about braces too. My orthodontist said that almost 30% of his patients are adults. I have my records appointment next week, for x-rays, molds, etc and then he will let me know what his plan is for me. Be glad that you have insurance. I don't have dental insurance and the braces are going to be $5,000.

--------------------
Insurance companies are in the business of denying health care, they are for profit and if you cost more than that get from you they would go out of business(whens the last time you saw an insurance co go under??) You go to the hospital, your doctor says you need this procedure. You have a co-pay for the visit(this you pay out of pocket) The insurance company says thats not covered or we will only pay X amount. They have nurses and doctors on staff to argue with your doctor etc about the necessity of the procedure. Doctors and hospitals raise the rates they charge to cover the costs of all the time spent arguing with the insurance company. Normally you have to pay up to the limit of your deductible say it costs $5000.00 and you have a $1500.00 deductible you pay $1500.00 and the insurance co pays the remaining $3500.00. Sometimes this is a yearly deductible so the next procedure (in a given year) will not cost you out of pocket. However(a big however) You insurance probably has limits as to how much they will pay for the procedure. They may say that they will only pay $2000.00 for this procedure. You pay your $1500.00 deductible Insurance pays $500.00 and then the doctor sends you a bill for $3000.00
