Any AARP Members Using Delta Dental Membership?

If you are an AARP member and gotten Delta Dental insurance, did it work ok for you? There are two plans, A and B. Care to comment?
--------------------
First, I would check with your dentist. My dentist will not accept Delta Dental insurance, because of issues he had with negotiating fees. I'm not saying it is a bad company - my sister in law is an underwriter for them. Just saying to check with your dentist before enrolling.

has anyone ever gone to a dental school for dental treatment?

i am very short on cash and have no insurance but i need to have dental work done, i was thinking about going to a dental school..I need to know pros and cons of this.. any info would be greatly appreciated.. thank you.
--------------------
ive had 4 teeth filled at my local dental school. i do have a dentist, but its a lot cheaper and i always have him look over the work because i will have it fixed if done incorrectly. i think its worth it but it really depends on how experienced the dental student is. you wanna make sure hes not the one sleeping in class lol.

Will insurance cover my boyfriend and I?

My boyfriend and I are both young (22) and we recently got kicked off of our parent's insurance plans. We want to get insurance together, and were wondering if it is possible to do so? We are not married, but is there a way we can do it as a domestic partnership? Neither one of our offices that we work at offer a health insurance policy, either. We are looking for something affordable that preferrably includes dental, medical, and vision. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even names of reliable insurance companies would be great. Thanks in advance!
--------------------
This varies with companies, but it usually doesn't reduce your premium payment. Contact a local independant agent in your area to get many different plans and benefits. He/she will be able to help you choose the best plan for your particular financial and medical needs. Choosing your own plans will also cause no problems in coverage if at some point you both decide to go your own way. I am not saying this will happen, but just another point to consider.

Can you have two dental insurances and a dental plan?

My dentist told me today that I would be a good candidate for invisalign express treatment (this is not the first time this has been suggested to me by a dentist). However, delta dental insurance does not cover orthodontic treatment. My dentist quoted me a price of $3500.00 for the treatment. So I was thinking about purchasing another dental insurancethat covers orthodontic treatments and a dental plan to knock off the rest of the cost. I looked online to find a dental plan that discounts orthodontic procedures and I found this one: http://www.dentalplans.com/dentalplans/orthocarehome.asp?zipcode=46311. Now I just need to find a dental insurance that covers adult orthodontic treatments.
--------------------
I would encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars since. From cleanings, xrays, crowns..etc. My braces only cost me $2000 from the original quote of $4500. All though it may differ in the area you live, but the savings are great. I don't believe you will find a company(ies) that will cover the entire cost. Weather it is Invasilign or braces. Most will cover half. Invasalign is technically still new, and coverage for that is limited. hope this helps.

How about Universal Auto insurance?

Universal Dental, universal home insurance, universal life insurance, universal pet medical insurance, universal flood insurance, universal renters insurance. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have the government provide all insurance to everybody? There couldn't be problems with that right? ( please note heavy sarcasm )
--------------------
Bwahahaha so true! I will take Universal Auto Insurance! I love your sarcasm, the dental and pet ones you named made me laugh too! :)

if you have health insurance through work & you change to part time, can you still purchase the same insurance?

I am going to change my hours at work from full time to part time and I get pretty good insurance benefits as a full-time employee. However, my company does not offer this insurance to part-timers. Is there a way I could still keep my insurance by simply paying for it out of pocket? It is Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Metlife Dental. If so, how do I do this?
--------------------
There are two options. Pay to continue the health and dental insurance under COBRA. You will be allowed to do that for up to the next 18 months but understand that you can be charged 100 percent of the premiums plus a 2 percent administrative fee. "Pretty good" plans that are subsidized or paid for by your employer may be shockingly expensive when you are the one picking up the tab. The other possibility might be to see if the carriers offer a individual conversion plan. The benefits offered will not be so "rich" but you also won't have to be rich to afford the monthly premium.

Can step-parent cover step kids under their med insurance?

I live in MN. I am able to cover my husbands son (my step son) under our insurance at work which is Medica. He is unable to do so with his insurance which is Health Partners and his Dental plan as well (for my children). His employer told him he would have to adopt them in order to be insured. Is this correct? Do employers/insurance companies have the final say in what they allow? Is it up to the discretion and contract of the employer and insurance company? Having a hard time finding info on this.
--------------------
Since the employer is providing the health insurance, they set the rules for eligibility. Yes, they may require that he adopt the children. Most often it depends on who has custody, but they may require adoption. You should ask the employer to provide you (in writing) the rules for eligibility-just for you own peace of mind. The carrier should also be able to provide you with this info.

Is there any dental clinic providing free or discounted gum graft surgery in L.A.?

I already overused my dental insurance this year. the Graft surgery from my current dentist cost more than $900 per tooth. Any clinic offering better price than this?
--------------------
You might want to check dental/assistance schools....some offer excellent discounts for dentist who are training or must preform a certain amount of such surgeries to become certified..my daughter is a hygienist and when her dentist began dental implants they offers 60-70% discount...so I imagine somewhere would offer gum graph surgery discount..good luck.

Is the dental plan through Tricare worth getting?

I'm having an issue with a capped tooth (uggggggggh!) and need to sign up for the insurance you get through Tricare. I think its Concordia? I've heard that its not the best dental plan and was wondering if those who have used it think its worth it? If people wouldn't mind sharing their experiences that'd be great! I'm and Active Duty dependent. Thanks!
--------------------
It is not a great program, but what other options do you have? For the price you pay you should definitely get it and if there is another policy available through your office, if you work, then get that as a supplemental. When my wife worked for an insurance agency, she had both concordia and her work policy.

Emergency dental programs for people without insurance?

I have a friend that has developed an abscessed tooth. She is on her second emergency room visit for IV antibiotics. Face is swollen along with her throat. I know we can not do anything until the swelling and infection is under control. The issue is she has no insurance and she also doesn't have the up-front cash for even the first consultation with a dentist. I have called around and keep getting… no new clients or sorry no payment plans, or we offer it but it doesn't cover the doctor's initial visit. It seems like there should be options out there for people under these circumstances. This is not a cosmetic issue, its metical? Are there any resources people can suggest? St. Francis House couldn't even get her in until the end of July. More than 6 weeks from now. I'm in the OK, MO, & NWA Area
--------------------
The lack of access to dental care is a huge problem. There was a 12 year old boy in the D.C. area who died last year because he couldn't get a dentist who accepted Medicaid. If your friend is getting IV antibiotics in the ER, why aren't they admitting her for treatment? The law says you have to stabilize someone in the ER regardless of ability to pay. Seems like a single dose of antibiotics isn't stabilizing someone. If she's admitted, maybe an oral surgeon can see her in hospital.

Dental program for low income families?

Are there any programs that provide low cost/free assistance wit dental? my son needs a badly infected tooth pulled and we dont have dental insurance. its urgent! can someone help?!
--------------------
There's a bunch of different companies online that are NOT insurance. They ARE discount cards once you become a member. For ex. ameriplan, signature dental plan, but actually there's a website w/a listing of it looks like 30 different companies. They all average abt the same price like 10-15 bucks a month and can use almost immediately. they charge that amount on your cc. they have individual and family plans and u can cancel anytime too. I have one too, but different than the names I mentioned above. I have saved a LOT of money coz have no dental ins. obviously and found a great dentist right down the street who takes/accepts the plan at his business. it's worth it.

Can you recommend me a good health insurance?

I missed out on signing up for healthy insurance where I work and I'm becoming worried that I might have to go see the doctor soon. So I'd like to get a good quality insurance. I'm 22, male, single no kids and I'm from texas. If you know of a good insurance that covers well please share. I'd like to sign up really soon. Also if you have any for dental and vision coverage that would be great! Thank you.
--------------------
If you're young and relatively healthy you may have some pretty affordable options when purchasing coverage on your own. Given your age, you may also be able to stay on your parents' plan. One of the provisions of health reform law allows adult children (whether or not they are in school) to stay on their parents' plan until age 26. That provision goes into effect this September. Talk to your parent's Human Resources department to learn more. If you want to purchase coverage on your own, however, I'd recommend working through a licensed agent. It's not generally a good idea to make a straightforward recommendation without more information than you've provided here. But a licensed agent (online or off) can help you get quotes from a variety of insurers in your area and help you find the best match for your needs and budget. It doesn't cost anything extra to work with an agent. Through our company's site at www.ehealthinsurance.com, for example, you can compare plans in your area and read customer reviews before applying. And of course you can also talk with a licensed agent for personal help. Whatever you choose to do, just make sure you get covered. Best of luck!

Can i have multiple insurance?

If i had two sets of dental insurance can i use them at the same time for the same bill?
--------------------
This is perfectly legal. Your dentist will submit the claim to your primary insurer; once your primary processes the claim, your dentist will submit the claim with the primary insurer's EOB to the secondary insurer. Please note, unless your dentist is a "participating provider" (has a contract with your insurance companies), you may have to file one or both claims yourself. Before you go to the expense of purchasing secondary insurance, however, it's vital that you read the "Coordination of Benefits" (COB) section in BOTH policies. This is important because: 1) You must have a clear understanding of which policy is primary. If you're the primary insured under both, typically the policy purchased first is primary. However, this is NOT always the case. Better safe than sorry. 2) There may be a clause in the secondary insurer's COB section that says if your primary paid as much or more than the secondary would have paid if it was primary, then the secondary will pay NOTHING. If this is the case, it makes little sense to purchase the secondary policy, since you'll receive nothing from it. There are exceptions, though. If your primary doesn't pay for certain expensive services, but the secondary does, it may be worth having. 3) Check the COB section of the secondary's policy to ensure it covers any co-pay or co-insurance you have under your primary. It should state this one way or the other. I hope this helps.

Which medical insurance plan should I get?

Right now I have medical insurance. I'm worried that my husband and I are going to get a divorce and I am planning to buy my own insurance. Under the Tricare Prime for Retired Military. Is general dental (ie. annual exams and cleanings covered)?

I am trying to decide whether I should get my company Dental Insurance or stick with Tricare. My company ins. will cost me 44$ a month. Or maybe be double covered for dental. I just can not find whether general dental is covered within Tricare Prime. Or do I need to enroll in the Tricare Dental Program separtely.
--------------------
Tricare dental is separate. When you have the dental annual exams and cleaning are included. It covers 70% of the expenses for everything else.

I have some dental questions to ask a doctor, where could i go for advice?

I need some extensive dental work done w/o insurance. It will be expensive and I am considering having it done out of the country (US)
--------------------
Dental work is getting better out of the country. I just had a patient come back with a 1/2 decent bridge from the philipines. She cam in to have me check it out. It wasn't bad. Some f the gold work coming out of Mexico is very good too. I think though you really need to do your homework. I've also seen some huge disasters come back from mexico. Generally the farther in away from the border the less likely you are to get funelled into a chop shop. I agree that the average dental work in the US is better.

I am currently in the dental hygiene program, and have to have 65 patients. How can I find patients?

I am currently in the dental hygiene program, and have to have 65 before graduation. We have to find our own patients. The clinic offers a 50% discount to all college students as well as takes just about any insurance plan. However, I am new to the area and do not know very many people. How can I find patients?
--------------------
Advertise. Place an ad in the newspaper. That's what my classmates and I did. At least we had a receptionist in the college who took messages for us. We also had access to voicemail. Approach strangers in the college and ask them. I found it was a very effective way to find patients. When I was in school, I had to pass a provincial practical exam in order to obtain my license. I paid both of my patients (the selected patient and my back-up) $75 to show up for that appointment. I didn't need to use my back-up patient because my first patient showed up, but someone else used my back-up because her patient was a no-show. If your patient doesn't show up you don't get your money back for the exam fee. Then you have to make a second attempt a couple of months later and pay the fee again. It was worth it to pay patients who were willing to be my exam candidates. I also did something sneaky and I don't regret it. The college just started charging patients for a cleaning and the system was unorganized. I used that to my advantage. They never checked up on who paid the fee and who didn't. All you had to do was sign their chart claiming they paid. I signed all of my patients charts even though none of them paid and I was never caught. It's easier to find patients when they get a free service.

Good dental plan that covers oral surgery?

My boyfriend needs his wisdom teeth pulled plus some other teeth removed. He has no dental insurance and lives in Pennsylvania. The dentist estimated him a cost of about $1945, but if his other teeth that need removed have to be removed surgically then thats another $900. His credit isn't that good and I don't think that Care Credit will apporove him. He won't go to the dental school b/c he had a bad experience with a previous dentist and is afraid. Any suggestions on a good dental plan?
--------------------
He probably doesn't have the time to wait for regular dental insurance. The premium for a good dental plan in PA will be around $40 per month. The waiting periods on dental insurance for major treatment such as oral surgery and wisdom teeth extraction is 18 months. This means you have to wait until the 19th month to get the procedure done and then the insurance only pays 50% of the bill. Plus you have yearly maximums and yearly deductibles. I'm an insurance agent and I don't have dental insurance. I have a dental discount fee for service type plan. You can find one for your boyfriend here: http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… The premium for the plans in PA is around $100 - $130 for 15 months coverage. They will only give you a discount of around 20% - 25% but there are no deductibles, no yearly maximums and no waiting periods. One word of advice before getting on any dental plan. If your current dentist is not on the provider list you'll need to find a new one that is. Before signing up for the plan call some of the dentists that are listed to make sure they're still in the plan and are taking new patients.

Where do I find dental coverage that will cover major surgery at minimal cost?

I have to get dental surgery and it is now a matter of life and death. However I do not have much income or health insurance. I need to find out if there is a government program that can help me or if there are any plans that will help me at a reasonable price.
--------------------
For major oral surgery in the USA I recommend the Oralsurgeon4less membership. I would definitely not go for governmental programs if it is a matter of life and death. Instead, sign up for the membership online and get the surgery the next day.

What is the difference b/w employee benefits (ie health & dental) and finding your own or through a broker?

I know it really depends on the company, but are employee benefits necessarily cheaper than if you have health and dental independently? Do people prefer one over the other and why? I am a new grad and have no clue about benefits, etc. I have a great job right now that I love but it is a nonprofit and they cannot afford benefits. I am currently under my parents' insurance but in a few months I will no longer be covered because of my age. Help? Thanks!
--------------------
On an employer's group policy, you're much more likely to have maternity coverage, and pre-existing conditions are not excluded. They have to take you, no matter how unhealthy you are, and charge you only based on your age. On a private policy, they don't have to take you, they're allowed to exclude anything you have wrong with you, and they're allowed to "uprate" you if you've got health issues.

If I live in a different state from where I originally filed, where do I go now to modify the orders?

My child has been with me her entire life (7 years) I have supported her all by myself financially (health and dental insurance included), emotionally and physically. Her biological father has not been in her life for 6 1/2 years. My original custody orders were from California 7 years ago but I currently live in North Carolina where do I need to file to get full custody instead of joint? and is not seeing, talking and supporting her enough to get full custody?
--------------------
Most lawyers give you a free hour of consultation - you need to call one in your state and find out if you need to petition the court in CA for full custody.
