I have unison insurance and am not covered for dental?

I am livid, I am four months pregnant and scared as hell! I have medicaid and was told that they do not cover dental. How in the hell am I supposed to get my tooth checked(hurts from pregnancy) if I have to pay an arm and a leg? I will not be able to work for about a month and I don't have that kind of money. What the hell is insurance good for? If not treated my child could have a low birth weigh or I could miscarry what can I do?
--------------------
Try calling Medicaid and asking them about the dental thing.. they told me there was a certain number of theirs I could call and possibly get approval for it.. in my local area there is a string of community clinics and one is a dental clinic.... try looking for one in your area... they are for low income based families... I had the same dilemma during my preganancy and just waited till after my baby was born.. no big deal my baby was healthy and turns out all I needed was my wisdom teeth pulled. Good Luck and congrats!

Experience with Blue Cross Dental Insurance?

I got a quote for just dental insurance from Blue Cross, has anyone used them before?
--------------------
I have a Blue Cross plan and my particular plan covers my regular check ups and some dental work very well. However, you need to be aware that each company has several different plans with different levels of coverage so check out the plan you want to buy. You need to think of more than just the monthly premium but also the deductables and what percentage you will be responsible for and also what level of coverage you will need ie: if you need extensive work or if you are more mature and may need dentures/fixtures soon. You should get a complete layout of the plan before making a commitment. I know its a long process..good luck!

I am a college student in Pennsylvania looking for health, dental, and vision insurance.?

I don't want a high deductible and I don't want to pay several hundred dollars a month. With not much money, I need my insurance to cover the majority of my expenses. What's the best major insurance provider I should go with?
--------------------
OK, you want 100% coverage for $1 a month. It doesn't exist. You're actually looking at THREE DIFFERENT policies here. If you're 20 and perfectly healthy, nothing wrong, not overweight, a good, low/no deductible plan should run you around $225 a month. SO. If you want to cut that in half, you have to take on a $5,000 deductible. Your dental coverage will run around $26 a month, with waiting periods for anything except cleanings. And the vision coverage will cost about the same - $20 a month, with a six month wait until they pay for an exam or glasses. You can't exchange $50 now for a known $500 you want to incur in the next month. Insurance companies would go out of business. They don't WORK that way. If you have no insurance now, any "expenses" you have now, are going to be excluded under a new policy. Just like the lottery, you have to buy the ticket BEFORE you number comes up.

I am running out of dental insurance soon, so I had found a dentist and had work started - a crown, and...?

some fillings. Well I have not had good luck with this dentist. We started with the crown because that takes time. Well I have been going back every week to get the fillings done. I just feel like the fillings are not being done right. There were three large fillings that he just had to re-do a second time a week later. I just don't have a good feeling about him anymore (I really liked him at first). Can I go somewhere else to have the crown put in or am I stuck here because it is already being made. I am supposed to go back in a few days for the prep. work - insterting the cast post, etc....and then some time in Sept. for the final appointment. Can this dentist office send it to another dentist or do I have to go to this Dr. because he started it?
--------------------
Where I am from, when you are doing a crown for a patient on their insurance, the crown must be preauthorized or approved in advance by the insurance company. If this dentist has submitted a preauthorization and it has been approved and he has already done the crown preparation and sent the impression to the lab, then there is a lab bill that must be paid as well as the dentist's fee for the crown prep. I suppose you could pay all that and then ask to take the crown to another dentist for cementing. However if you do this, and there is a problem, the dentist responsible could be questionable. For instance if the crown comes off at a later date, was it the crown prep or the cementation that failed? Hard to say and both would argue the point that they were not to blame. Also, where I come from, a dentist is given the first chance to fix a problem. That means if I did a crown prep and there was a problem with it, I should be given the chance to correct the problem or to refund your money and have you see someone else. If you chose to see someone else before letting me decide what I want to do, then you effectively let me off the hook. It is somewhat muddy, but I hope this helps. I believe your best course is to let the dentist do his job. If there is a problem, seek a second opinion and then go back to the dentist to see what he says about it.

Eye and dental insurance question?

Hi i currently have health insurance through my dads job. I really like the plan so i denied my jobs insurance. I am 19 years old but my question is where can i find eye and dental insurance not related to my current insurance. My job does not offer them so i was considering a separate plan for this coverage. Are there any plans that will do this? And if so how much will they really save on contacts and dental visits. Thank you so much for the help.
--------------------
You can buy individual dental and vision care coverage, but consider the cost vs. the benefits carefully. Sometimes you're better off paying out of pocket.

Dental Insurance Plans in North Dakota?

I live in North Dakota and I am looking for a Good Dental Insurance Plan. Can anyone help me. Thanks
--------------------
hey Anna, I am on a really great dental plan that has no waiting periods. You can see any dentist you want, and there is a $100 deductible that you only have to meet once, not every year. It is a REALLY good plan, and I did a lot of research on indemnity plans and discount plans, which turned out to cost more than they were worth. This is a very comprehensive, major dental plan and it is CHEAP. you can check it out at http://www.BestForLessDental.com and see for yourself. If you decide to sign up, you can do it right online! Good luck to you!

Can disability and life insurance be filed under medical and dental expenses?

Can disability and life insurance paid with tax dollars be filed under medical and dental expenses?
--------------------
Dear Krax: See IRS Pub 17 page 241, disability payments do not qualify. Page 143 says life insurance payments are not deductible either. Life ins paid by a corp on key employees is deductible. any reccomendations for a good dental insurance??

i have health insurance through my job, but they do not offer dental.
--------------------
You have five options with dental. 1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance. 2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. 3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

What does it mean when your insurance lists "dental vendor" as part of your benefits?

This is kind of an emergency-I need to hurry up and see a dentist, today, but I do not know if dentistry is covered with my plan. I tried calling, but the recording said they were closed for the holiday. Online it says in the "other benefits" section, that "dental vendor" is included. Does this mean that it will cover my check up at the dentist's office? Please help!
--------------------
If it is a medical plan, most do not cover dental unless you were involved in an accident (ie. your teeth got knocked out or broken). You need to read you policy, maybe got to their online web page and seek out the "definitions" section to see what is covered. ps. your not going to get to see a dentist on the holiday without going to an emergency room.. thought dentists are not staffed in hospitals. You need to call you regular dentist (they should have an "incase of emergencies" part to their recording... if it is pain... I would suggest going to the ER and see if a doc will get you a script until tuesday.

Should we get Dental Insurance?

HI all.My wife needs extensive dental work. Should we get dental insurance? Ive heard both good and bad about dental insurance and not sure what we should do. Thanks for any tips.
--------------------
Usually if you get dental insurance on your own, you must really need it because you know the amount of coverage and price of the monthly premium and you figured that you'll still come out ahead even with what you have to pay out. Insurance companies know that and they will charge a lot and put a lot of exclusions and limitations on dental work to make sure they make money off of you (remember, insurance companies are not charitable organizations). Getting dental insurance through a workplace may be cheaper than getting it on your own. That's because all the employees get dental insurance and insurance companies make money off of those employees who don't use their insurance. As a result, insurance companies can offer lower premiums to the employer. Insurance companies might offer a plan that requires dentists give discounts to their policy holders. The insurance companies don't lose any money because the dentists are the one giving the break for the referral in return.

has anyone ever used Ameriplan dental, health, and vision insurance before?is it legit?

they supposedly give you fat discounts on vision, dental, and health, and even life insurance.even though they are not an insurance(they send you a card looks like a debit card in the mail and you have coverage the very next day) just a company that works with doctors and other companies that are willing to give you discounted prices.does anyone know of any other insurance that is very low-cost?websites?thanks!
--------------------
You should read the Federal Trade Commission warning on my site about discount companies. If you end up in a hospital you'll still be responsible for the majority of the bill which could run many thousands of dollars. Buy health insurance. A high deductible plan is cheaper than most discount plans and covers more of the risk. Discount plans for dental are fine because nobody has lost a home having to pay for a root canal (in other words, most dental issues cost less than $1,000...a heart attack can run in the hundreds of thousands). For vision...go to WalMart. $85 gets you a full exam and contact fitting. Oh, and most importantly, you should keep in mind that insurance usually ALREADY gives you these discounts and in some cases the discounts are greater than many discount plans.
