We're losing the house, and finally "calling it quits" ... what's the best way to handle the health insurance?

Wife and I have been married almost 11 loooooong years ... she's a "serial cheater" that I can't trust in that respect, so "working it out" is not an option, having FAILED more than once. We're one of the many people that tried to "get in on the housing ROCKET" and bought a house we couldn't afford with an ARM loan in December of 2006 ... JUST before the housing market started falling back to Earth like Skylab! We can't juggle the bills around anymore ... we haven't paid the August payment, and we're heading towards the "foreclosure/short sale" horizon. NOW, TO MY QUESTION: There's ME, my WIFE, and my 9-year-old DAUGHTER. When the bomb drops and we move out of this house and live separately, my wife will most likely have physical custody (a child's natural place is with her mother, I think, unless that mother is a crazy beeyotch ... she's a terrible wife, but a good mother). Should we wait for a while to get the actual "divorce"? Like, if we're just "legally separated" ... can they still be on my health insurance? After a divorce, can my daughter still be covered by my policy at work, or would I have to be able to claim her as a dependent to do this? My wife could get coverage from them from HER work, but in some aspects my coverage is better. Also, I'm covered by HER vision and dental (because that's where MY insurance SUCKS ...) ... and I need a new pair of glasses and a crown to replace a tooth ... should I get this stuff done before the divorce, obviously? Or am I still covered during a "separation"? (we may wait until spring time/next summer to actually "do" the divorce ...
--------------------
Most states don't recognize legal seperation. After the divorce, your wife can't be on your work policy, but she must stay on the policy until the divorce, or open enrollment. Your employer might require you to claim your daughter on your taxes as a dependent, to give her coverage on your policy. You'll have to check with your HR department about that.

How does my insurance work? Aetna SRC?

I signed up for my insurance through my employer (cvs), which I work part-time with. I got offered insurance, so I chose dental, which has been taking $4.45 out of each paycheck for almost 4 months now. HOWEVER - It says exams, panoramic x-rays and prophylaxis, which I hope means cleanings, have NO waiting period. They each have next to them "limited to one procedure every 6 months". I just got back from the dentist, I had a $145 panoramic x-ray which has been submitted to them, and the first part of a cleaning that was NOT covered by insurance (paid out of pocket), and I am going to the 2nd and final part of the cleaning which is covered. How does the company pay for this? Around $120 or so has been taken out of my paychecks total since coverage started , maybe less. Are they going to reject the claims? Because during one call to my insurance company, they said that my coverage was terminated; but another call AFTER that said my coverage was still on as usual, which I would hope to be the case as $ is being deducted from my paychecks.
--------------------
you most likely have a deductible to meet and they will normally pay 80% of covered until your max. check your plan benefits for the actual coinsurance and plan max.

Retainer tightening question?

my teeth are starting to shift! i have no dental insurance and i need my retainer tightened asap! do you think there are any dentists who would just tighten it for me without insurance and just charge me for it out of my own pocket?
--------------------
no i dont think any dentists would do that. but if you have a plastic retainer you should just wear it as much as possible to get it back to the original position, dats what i do. but idk if you have the wire retainers

Are dental plans worth it?

I just graduated college so my insurance dropped me. I don't start my job until May. Working a crappy job right now with no benefits. I need a root canal and just wondering if dental plans are all they make out to be?
--------------------
Hi... I was looking an answer for the same question, but in my case I think is a little late... I have a Dental Plan attached to a Medical "Insurance" Plan, and I went to the dentist with a confidence to have some treatments (refered by the list the "Insurance" company provided to me) assigned with "no cost", but in the real world that is far to exist, because the dentist office always charge for something, even in those so called "NO CHARGE" treatments (ej: profilaxis, extractions, etc.), what they do is just simply change the CODE NUMBER assigned to a any of those "no charge" treatments (example: if you did a extractions they will say that treatment was another different (more complicated) to the one insert in your list, if you did a profilaxis they will say that was a secuel from a "root scalping and planning" and no a profilaxis, if you needed a crown (at $ 300 to $ 450 in the list) they will extracharge you with $200 more due "LABS FEES", so you never will paid or no paid the same price they tell you, and (that is the worse) your Provider will agree with those dentist and will never give to you the reason and never wil talk to you about any reimbursment if you though you must deserve it. PD: I will put a link to a one page about this matter.

Can I keep COBRA coverage and use my employer's insurance as well?

I left my job a few months ago and I accepted the dental coverage offered from COBRA because I have braces. I'm now starting a new job soon and I would like to know if I can accept the dental coverage at my new job and keep COBRA...
--------------------
Yes, but: 1. You will have to pay full price for COBRA. You will no longer qualify for the 65% federal subsidy. 2. If you have coverage from two places, you do not get to pick which coverage pays for something. Only one does, and there are complicated rules that decide which one, so it is usually better to have only one.

I chipped my dental crown (molar) and can't afford to have it repaired.?

I don't feel awkward when I eat or when I clench my teeth. The crown was chipped in the porcelain outer covering and part of the metal inner side is showing. No pain or sensitivity. Will it hurt me in the long run if I leave it like that for 3-1/2 years until my insurance covers for everything? They only cover crowns every 5 yrs!
--------------------
Call the dental office that sold it to you! They might have you come in for a free exam so the dentist can decide whether he/she thinks it can wait. Also, if you kept up on your cleanings, it may be under warranty especially if it has been less than 5 years. If not, they may appeal your insurance for you or replace it at a huge discount. The people who sold it to you will have the best answers.

Dentist Japan? Have you gotten a filling replaced in Japan?

With no dental insurance for another 6 weeks I have to pay full price. How much do you think 1-2 surfaces will cost? How many visits to the dentist? I just need this filling refilled so I don't go around with a hole in my tooth that could get infected. I have been down that road.
--------------------
TokyoE is right. If you have a health insurance, that will cover your dental care too. If you just remove plaque and clean your teeth, it will take only a couple of days. It will cost... roughly about 2,000yen, I think... I don't remember. If you have your decayed tooth filled, it will take a month or so, and will cost ... 1,500yen to 3,000yen at least, and if you have a really, really bad tooth, it will cost 7,000yen and up. http://cost.ha-channel.net/musiba.shtml Oh, before they start fixing your teeth, they usually take a X-ray of your mouth (teeth). For one tooth, it will take for a month (once a week visit).

Dental plan coverage?

Just a quick general knowledge question. Someone at work here is questioning our dental plan becuase she needs a root canal. I personally rarely use the health or dental coverage. I was under the impression that most dental plans paid a percentage of the cost of dental work up to a predetermined out of pocket amount for the insured. For example, the insured may have to pay 60% of the cost of dental work during the year up to a total out of pocket expense of $2,500, after that , all is covered. Someone else at work is saying it is the opposite. The insurance co. will pay their percentage up to a predetermined amount and then it's all on the insured. How are most policies structured?
--------------------
O.k.,this is how dental insurances work.Usually they separate the services on:Preventative care(usually covered at 100% with no deductible);Basic care(usually covered at 80%) and Major care(usually covered at 50 or 60%).If you need any services that fall under the Basic and Major category then you will usually pay yearly deductible and on top of that the percentage that it is not paid by your insurance. There is a certain amount the insurance will pay per year, for example from $1000 to $2000 or more.Once they pay all that it means that you have reached your yearly maximum and if you decide to have any more dental work done after that ,the cost will be out of your pocket, but if wait for your new benefit year ,then you will have another 1000 or 2000 dollars available. This information is general, because I have seen insurances with no deductible, who cover everything 100% or some who have unlimited coverage.Very important is also to make sure that the dentist you are going to visit is in the network with your insurance, cause if he is not,you might not be covered or might have to pay more out of pocket!Well,I hope I was helpful,I deal with dental insurances all day at work,so you can trust me!:))

Does TriCare insurance cover eyecare?

I know dental is seperate, and I have already set that up but now it's time for my eyecheck and I have no idea if my eyes are covered or not. If not HOW do I get them covered? Any advice would be great.
--------------------
TriCare Prime covers one general eye exam per year. This is the same kind of exam you get for $40 at Lens Crafters. It will also cover glasses (not contacts) to a very limited extent. If you need specialized eye care that you can't get with one of these exams, you can get a referral for an eye specialist. This is covered under your family practice health care, not vision, and you should contact your PCM. But for regular things, like exams for glasses and contacts, you can go to the eye clinic on a military base, if you live on or near one. It's usually located somewhere in the vicinity of the BX. Just call and make an appointment. Be prepared to wait at least two weeks for the appointment because they're usually very busy.

Dental problems during pregnancy?

I was reading another question and someone answered something about "untreated dental problems can cause serious complications during pregnancy".. Can someone tell me some more specifics about this? I quit my job to be a SAHM and am pregnant again.. I had insurance through my company and now I am on my husbands insurance but won't be available for dental coverage for 6 more months.. My teeth aren't in total dismay, but I am having some issues.. and I worry about everything.. so now after reading that answer I am worried about this. Thanks.
--------------------
Dental problems should be solved before pregnancy to prevent infections that would require treatment and drugs unadvised while carrying a child. As you are already pregnant, and your dental problems aren't very serious, a dentist would probably advise you to wait until you give birth to take care of your teeth. There is, however, one thing you should do right away: start with a calcium supplement. Calcium tablets are cheap and can help prevent many teeth complications. Babies consume a lot of calcium while they are forming their bodies, and if you don't put it back on your system you may end up with weak teeth.

What dental problems can be harmful during pregnancy?

I am 23 weeks pregnant, I live in Ca, and I have medi- cal insurance, along with another insurance through my work, my work insurance Anthem blue cross doesn't pay for much for dental and I am maxed out for dental with them right now. Medi-cal on the other hand will pay for extractions, and when I went to the dentists office Saturday I was told that medi-cal will also pay for procedures that can potentially be harmful to a pregnancy. I know that my dentists want to do a deep cleaning on me, and I know that if I don't get this procedure that the bacteria built up can cause preterm labor. I am also wondering if anyone knows what other procedures would be covered and considered possibly harmful to a pregnancy. I have quite a few dental issues, so I would like to get as much as I can covered by medi-cal, other wise with the anthem insurance I have to pay mostly all of all dental procedures, and I owe so much right now that there is no way that I could possibly get any more dental work done unless it is covered by medical, for the next year or so. Thanks for the answers in advance, and God bless you all.
--------------------
Honey, this is a subject you should definitely raise with your obstetrician as well as your dentist. Don't trust the opinions of the people on Yahoo Answers. All of them are strangers, and some of them are REALLY strange. lol!! Seriously, you should particularly ask about the effect of anesthetics (like novocaine) on your baby. I don't know the answer for sure, but I would be very hesitant about something like that. (To be fair, it might be okay, since it is just local to your mouth and doesn't affect your whole body, but leave that question to the experts who are responsible for your health care.) I would also be very dubious about any sort of x-ray, unless the shielding is done super-carefully. On the other hand, I think any sort of "mechanical" work, like scraping for cleanings, should be okay. But again, get the advice of your obstetrician first. I know this is not the definite answer you may have been looking for, but I hope it is helpful. Good luck, and congratulations on your baby.

Insurance Question?

My husband works for a company that does not offer benefits. We are covered through my employer. His income is enough for us to live on - I am simply working to give us benefit coverage. However, I am wanting to have a baby....and even be a stay at home mom. My question is: what does someone in our situation do? I mean, can we just BUY our own insurance? What are some good companies? I know I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Delta Dental now....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
--------------------
Yes, technically you can buy health insurance for your entire family but it would be very expensive. A policy would cost you well over a $1000 a month or more. I suggest you look for a part-time job that offers benefits. Many companies that need people to answer phones for customer service outside of the regular 8-5 business day will pay benefits to part-time employees. We have a large bank in my area that pays benefits to employees who work only 20 hours a week. Or, check with your current employer. Maybe they would arrange a work at home position for you. Good luck. I wish you well.

In two days i will be going to the dentsit and i need to know what to expect?

In two days i will be going to the dentist and i need to know what to expect. I'm only going for a regular dental check up and cleaning but, i have two teeth each with one hole in them. When i go to the dentist will they do an emergency extraction , or a root canal , or give me a cap? Even if they don't do this during the same day that i come in for a regular dental check up, will they do this eventually. Plus i may need braces. How do you think this will work out? And If you have EHP insurance are you covered for caps and dental cosmetic surgery?
--------------------
The first day they will probably just evaluate you and take x-rays and see what all will need to be done. As far as holes in your teeth it will depend on how bad they are. They may be able to just fill them. It also depends on where they are located in your mouth as to whether they do the root canal or the extraction of them. The brace thing is mostly up to you since it is a cosmetic thing. As far as the insurance it probably will not pay all of it. Most of the time the cleaning and x-rays are a 100% covered as well as the exam. But the comestic side of it will probably be 50%. All insurances are different. Best advice I can give you is try and keep your teeth as long an possible because dentures is no joke.

In need of some Dental suggestions..?

I live outside Memphis TN and in need of some dental work. I have a cavity in my front tooth, and have for awhile. I have no insurance, so have been putting it off. I really need to get it taken care of, as I'll probably need a root canal now. I don't qualify for most of the payment plans such as Care Credit. Any suggestions on what I can do? I know it'll be pricey, and I don't make a ton of money.

Many areas have free dental clinics. Call the TN state dental association and see if they can tell you of any in the Memphis area. Good luck

Wisdom tooth extraction cost?

So, my Dad decided to go ahead and skip dental insurance this year, since it would be cheaper. He decided that about 2 weeks ago, and in the past 3 days, my wisdom teeth have been starting to bother me. I'll probably need to get them pulled before the year is out... and was wondering: How much will it cost without dental insurance? Thanks guys! :D
--------------------
It is going to cost a lot. Tell your dad to get a Discount Plan Go to www.medicaldentaldiscounts.com You can save up to 80% on all Dental needs including braces You also get Vision,Prescription,Chiropractic benefits at no additional charge. The Family plan cost $19.95 a month for up to 20 people under one roof. There are no limits No waiting period So you can sign up today and use the plan tomorrow. Plus on the website you can locate a dentist in your area and if a certain dentist is not on the plan, then you can request a dentist to take the plan. So have you dad and yourself look at the plan, or on there they have a request for you to have someone call you and talk about it!

Naval dental care question?

I recall when I was in the navy, ( I was stationed at the MTF in Portsmouth.) my wife just went to her dental appointments at the hospital. Now Im out of the navy, she is in, but when i go to the dentist, we have to pay now. Does that seem right? I mean insurance of course covers part of the cost. But it's not exactly that good of insurance compared to just going in and not having to pay a dime. United Concordia. We're in oak harbor now and the navy hospital dentist center does not treat dependents. that just doesnt seem right
--------------------
When you were in the Navy you were paying for the dental care of your spouse through United Concordia, it was automatically deducted from your pay. Just like it is now. The same thing back then as well for when you saw a civilian dentist. The dependent can be seen on base if the base itself allows it, but not all do and if not then the dependent goes to a civilian dentist. This gives 2 free cleanings a year, 1 free xray every 2 years and then up to 80% coverage on all work done. It is the same program that has been around for over 15 years. The base where you are at now does not have the staff to see dependents especially as it is not a major base compared to Portsmouth which is.

am i still covered under my parent health insurance?

I'll be 19 this month and I'm not going to college but I was wondering under the new obama health plan would I still be covered under my parent they did claim me as dependent on there taxes. I was wondering bc I went to my dentist and found out I wasn't under the dental plan anymore sense I had turned 18 even though I was still in school I wasn't elgiable for it anymore
--------------------
That portion of the bill goes into effect when the policy renews after 9/23/10. If you don't know when the policy renews it is generally right after open enrollment. At that time you can get back on if you desire. Until then apparently you are not covered.

any condition like cavity or abscess causing severe pain can lead to premature delivery.... ...abscess will also have the potential for the infection to spread throughout your body and pose a threat to both the mother's and baby's health..... ..periodontal / gum disease can lead to premature delivery and low birth weight of the baby...

Becoming an Insurance clerk (doc's office)?

I'm not sure what the exact title would be but does anyone know what kind of schooling is involved or what kind of money the insurance people in doctor's offices make? I am torn between becoming that or a dental hygienist.. looking for good salary/quick school! What are the pro's and con's of each, anyone work as an insurance clerk (?) by chance? Thanks for any help.
--------------------
If I were you I'd probably go to school to be a dental hygenist. It's more specialized training and I would think the salary would be greater than that of an insurance clerk. Some medical offices will train you on the job for insurance billing. Wages definitely vary depending upon where you are.

some county health dept.s have a dental clinic. Other areas have free or low income clinics. Also, Missions of Mercy have a traveling volunteer dental clinic. If you qualify for medicaid, they have a dental benefit included with the medical benefits.
