Do you know why buying Dental Insurance is not a good idea ?

Me and my employer paid about $600 in premium per year. The Insurance Company (Pr__cipal Fin__cial Group) only allow $168 of the expense. Their net profit is $432.00 My health care preimum is almost $10K per year and the coverage is so limited. I even have to pay a $20 co-pay per visit.
--------------------
In order to stay in business, the company has to take more in from premiums, than it pays out in benefits. That's how the game is played. However there are some companies that are better than others and won't delay and deny claims.

what are the options without dental insurance?

my brother needs to get his teeth fixed but his job doesnt offer insurance. he has cavities that are years old that are black and decaying his teeth. he doesnt want to go to a clinic because they dont actually repair your teeth but just remove them. he also doesn't have a lot of money to pay out of pocket. what low cost options if any, does he have?
--------------------
If you live in an area where there is a University they may have a dental school. You could try there. The work they do is perfectly safe it just takes a long time because each step has to be checked by a professor. They usually offer a payment plan or some sort of sliding scale based on your income.

what is the difference between dental plans and dental insurance what is reguired to apply?

my husband has a steady job and i recieve disability and we both need major dental work done.any suggestions, might help... thanks...
--------------------
OK dental insurance is insurance what that means is that you pay a monthly premium which can be pretty costly and you have to pay a deductible ( deductible is the part of the insurance that you have to pay for before the insurance itself will pay anything) Deductible can be any thing from $500, $1000 and up depending on what the insurance company says. After the deductible you might still have to pay a co-pay, that is what your insurance deems you need to pay when you visit the doctor or have a procedure, then the insurance will pay the rest. But some insurances will not accept you with pre-existing conditions or work that was started by another dentist but wasn't finished, they will place a cap or limit on what they will pay for dental material and dental procedures and usually will not cover anything cosmetic. A Dental Plan is or a Discount Dental Plan is a membership plan where you can pay a low monthly fee or you have the option of paying the complete yearly fee for a membership. This membership allows you to see in network providers and get discounts on exams and dental procedures. Because this is a discount plan everyone is accepted regardless of pre-existing conditions and cosmetic services are covered. I myself needed dental work and the only choice was a medical dental discount plan because they accept pre-existing conditions plus for a low monthly fee my family was also covered under the same price. After much research I found one that was really good and had good history in the Better Business Bureau. Keep in mind a discount plan is not insurance it is a membership plan that provides dental, vision, hospital, prescription and medical discounts depending on the plan you choose. After the discount you will still be responsible for paying the remaining amount of the bill. I liked this plan so much that I am now a sales agent if you are interested you can email me annie_garza@yahoo.com. There are several plans that vary from 12.99 -29.99 a month depending on which one you need and choose. Not available for Montana and Vermont residents. If you decide to look for one on your own please make sure to research the plans carefully. Check out the company itself and look to see if it has any has complaints or has been sued. P.S If you do contact me I will explain the plans, help you choose one that suits your needs and provide you a brouchure and an application for you to fill out and submit to the company. Other than your first name I do not need any other information. I do not need your ss or financial info That is why i provide the application for you to fill out and submit to the company. Only you and the company see the application

My wisdom teeth are beginning to grow.. I need dental insurance, any ideas on where to go?

I have been looking for insurance and cannot find any that are a fair deal. Either they are pretty cheap monthly with HUGE payments (like 400 for the surgery) or they have low payments but I would be paying more throughout the months. Any ideas on good insurance in Cali?
--------------------
Do you live near a dental college? The University of Washington Dental School has need for patients the dentists in training can work on. They have a sliding fee schedule for folks like you. Other dental schools have the same set up. Check one out in your state. UCLA or UC Berkley or UC Davis.

Why are there no good dental insurance plans?

I can buy health coverage - but only "dental discount" plans that really don't help that much. I am not looking for plan names, etc... but the reason why it is hard to find good dental coverage. As a side note, What do you think of Brandon Jacobs?
--------------------
Good question. When you get an answer please let me know. It is a constant source of frustration for me. Medical coverage tends to be adequate, but dental is abysmal! It is usually not worth the premium you have to pay!

how does dental insurance work?

ok, here I go again, my insurance says : Type I dental expenses 100% no deductible Type II 90% after deductible *only one deductible applies if Type II and Type II expenses are incurred, Type III 60 % after deductible. It says I have 1500 dlls max. Now 10 points to whoever answers these questions: What the hell does this mean? I am new at this so please be gentle, what happens when the 1500 dlls are spent, what if I need more dental work and I don't have more insurance money?. Thanks.
--------------------
Well, this is worth more than 10 points because it is more complicated than Chinese arithmetic. Type 1 expenses usually include: cleanings, exams, x-rays, and other diagnostic and preventative services. Type 2 usually includes: fillings, root canals, extractions, periodontal treatments.. Type 3 usually includes: crowns, bridges, dentures. So, you visit the dentist twice per year and have cleaning, exam, and x-rays each time. If your dentist's fees fall within the insurance company's "usual and customary (UCR)" rates, you have no out of pocket. The deductible is waived. Also, in the same year, you need some fillings, a root canal and a crown. Your insurance will pay 90% of their UCR on the fillings and root canal and 60% of the crown AFTER the deductible. But once your insurace pays $1500 for the year, no more will be paid out for ANY service, including cleanings. If you need more work done, you are paying for it out-of-pocket. Your maximum is individual - that is, if you have others in your family covered, they each have their own $1500 and deductible to pay. That's a basic explanation, but there are all kinds of clauses and limits in your plan which I don't know about. Dental insurance is complicated stuff and after years of working with it, I still get surprised every now and then.

What are the pros and cons of dental insurance?

is it worth it?Is it something as useful as, say, medical insurance or life insurance?
--------------------
Yes, its definitely worth it and useful. But make sure you get the best or highest dental insurance possible. When my hubby and I got married I made sure he changed to the highest premium dental instead of the basic. That's because despite having the premium there were some things they did not want to cover like antibiotics and I had to wait a month before I got pre-certified. I just went to a Periodontist ( dentist that specializes in gum work & deep cleanings) for a perio-scale. My estimated total was $1,611 and out of that I had to pay $456 + my $75 deductible= a total of $531...ouch! My husband was not happy about that at all since they require you to pay the cost up front and lets face it dental work is very expensive but well needed you don't have a choice. The benifits would be to save more money but unfortunately there are some things that will not be covered...thats about it.

Where can I find affordable dental insurance?

--------------------
Ameritas Dental Insurance is my favorite. You can get $1500 per year PPO coverage which gets you all of the discounts of a discount plan, some vision coverage and it's generally $30/month give or take $10 or so depending on where you live.

Which is better dental insurance: Blue Cross Blue Shield or Delta Dental Individual Choice Premier?

I am currently looking at purchasing an individual dental insurance plan. Is Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Select Dental or Delta Dental Individual Choice Premier better? I am having a hard time deciding.
--------------------
Honey my job has had several dental plans through the years and none of them is very good at all. When I go to the dentist I pay my copay and then later they bill me for another $60 or so. As a rule Blue Cross is a better health insurance, but I don't know.

use a parent's dental insurance while living somewhere else?

I want to move in with my aunt for a multitude of reasons, but for now we're only arranging for the summer. If I go there, to Las Vegas, Nevada, could I get dental work done that I really really need, but using my mother's insurance while she's in New York? She only recently applied, and it goes into effect July 1st, but my aunt comes July 3rd. Is there any possible way it could work?
--------------------
You could still be covered under your mother's insurance, but her plan may have geographic limits. The only way to know for sure is for her to call the customer service number for her dental plan and ask them.

Is it possible to use two dental insurance companies?

Is it possible to use two insurance companies one covers half of the implanting and the other covers the second half?
--------------------
Usually doesn't work that way, would be nice if it did. Here's how it works. Say the implant cost $2,000.00 Say insurance company 1 will pay $1,100.00 and insurance company 2 will pay $1,250.00 for implants. You submit your bill to both. #1 will pay $1,100.00 and because of coordination of benefits #2 will pay $150.00.

Can they take out for medical/dental/disability insurance on a severance check?

I was recently laid off. I received my last paycheck almost immediately, but had to wait awhile to get my two weeks severance check. Are they allowed to take out medical, dental, life insurance, disability on my SEVERANCE check? I understood all that on my last paycheck, but it doesn't make sense to me on the severance check. Please let me know if this is legit. I really need to deposit this check to pay rent, but I don't want to if they are doing something wrong.
--------------------
Yes, they can. Severance is often considered time worked, so you are technically still covered during the severance period and normally will still be expected to pay your share. It only becomes an issue if you have a denied claim during that period (rare).

What should I go with, a Discount Dental Plan or Dental Insurance?

My fiance comes from a not so wealthy background or family and is having huge issues because her wisdom teeth have started to come in finally. She does not have Dental insurance and can't afford it but she needs the wisdom teeth extracted as they are impacted and causing severe pain in her jaw. I was looking at dentalplans.com and noticed these "discount dental plans" where it offers discounts on the costs of the procedures instead of just normal dental insurance. Are these legitimate? Or are they just not worth it?

By google to collect some related information or you may try using answer engines like yahoo answer or yedda.com to get some related ideas.nonetheless,If you prefer some direct resource, here http://www.insuranceidea.info/free-insurance.htm is a good one from my own experience.

on average, what is the monetary value of dental insurance to an employee compared to salary?

if i earn 200k with fully paid family medical but no dental, what would be the equivalent salary of someone that had a family dental package included in their compensation? should i go out and buy my own dental coverage for a family of four?
--------------------
Private dental coverage usually runs around $30 a month. Maybe it would cost your employer, $20 a month. Negligible, with your salary. Because of all the limitations, copays, deductibles, etc, I've never seen a private policy that pays out more than it costs. This is a good example of you being able to "self insure" for your family's dental coverage. It's not going to be worth it for you to pay, say, $50 a month for a family plan, that's going to actually pay out less than $500 a year.
