Corporate-transferring health/dental insurance into spouses name?

My husband and I have worked at the same corporation for the past 11 years. Our health/dental insurance is in my name since I make slightly more than him. I am thinking of quitting since childcare is becoming unaffordable and it make more sense for me to stay home with our child. My concern is health insurance coverage. How long would it take for the insurance to transfer into my husband's name? I don't want to be without it in case anyone of us becomes sick. It would be hard for me to speak to someone in our Benefits department since a buzz would start with my question and I haven't made any real decisions yet. Any information out there?
--------------------
No, you don't have to wait until November. Losing coverage, by you quitting your job, is a "qualifying event" for your husband, and he can change his insurance election. The link below is to the applicable law. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance

dental insurance and plans?

i live near houghton lake michigan, and i need to see a dentist badly!! i lost my dental coverage when i turned 21, and because of my age change, i am no longer able to get free dental coverage through my state. i have 3 children all under the age of 4 that need me, and because of the pain im experiencing it is extremely difficult for me to take care of them!!! i have 5 cavities, and 2 impacted wisdom teeth. i brush every day, but i keep getting problems with my teeth. i am on a very tight budget, and cannot afford to pay out of pocket fees to go to a dentist. does anybody know of affordable plans or insurance? or if anyone is familier with the area that knows of a dentist that accepts sliding fees? any help would be awesome! thanks in advance.
--------------------
You have four options with dental. 1. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den… 2. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With insurance you pay $460 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 3. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With discount plans you pay around $827. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 4. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

Dental Insurance not enough to pay for extractions and dentures...?

The dental insurance, $18.46 for 2 people, is paid weekly out of husbands earnings. This insurance only pays less than half of the dentists fees and has a $1000. yearly limit. This is leaving a deficit of almost $2500. for extractions and dentures that I am unable to come up with. Is there a possibility of purchasing a second policy from another company that will cover part of this? I can't find employment with no teeth and I need to get out of this abusive marriage. Is there help for me anywhere in Southern California? I will appreciate any helpful thoughts on getting my smile back.

Aetna has a co-insurance that pays for 50% of the balance. It's better than nothing.

Health and Dental Insurance for a Model?

Hello all. I'm a male model, age 23, who is looking to get dental and health insurance. I've been without insurance for a year now (ever since I graduated college and was taken off my parents' plan.), and I know very little about how health insurance works. Of the little that I do know, most health insurance is provided through one's employer, but due to the uniqueness of my occupation, I do not have an employer through which I can derive these benefits. I also travel a lot and am not in a single area for very much time. I know that most health care plans are regionalized, which is not good if I'm in Miami for 4 months, New York for 3, and then LA for 5. I'm assuming that I need a plan that will cover me wherever I go. So for me this is a very daunting task and I have no idea how to get started. Can anyone fill me in or recommend how I should go about this?
--------------------
You should go through a sales agent or broker if you don't know a lot about health insurance--someone who knows the business and can shop with you to find what fits your needs best. UnitedHealthcare covers you across the country--just one suggestion of a non-regional health insurance company. They offer dental too.

Dental insurance problem - am I liable?

My dentist advised me that I required two crowns. The office manager advised me that he had contacted my dental insurance company and they had agreed to pay a certain amount and asked me to pay approxinmately 30% co-pay. I agreed to this and the work was completed. In my belief I fulfilled my part of the verbal contract with the dentist to pay my co-pay. Some weeks later my insurers claimed they had not authorized porcelain crowns and refused to pay their portion. The dentist now expects me to pay this amount. I spoke to the insurers and they agreed that they had erroneously authorized the dentist ,and that they should resubmit the bill and it would be paid. the dentist did this, but the insurer still refuses to pay. I do not feel that I should be expected to pay this portion, due to a mix-up between the dentist and insurer. I fulfilled my part of the payment, and was not advised that I would have to pay if the insurance did not. How should I proceed?
--------------------
Unfortunately, you ARE liable for anything not covered by your insurance-even if the dentist's office was quoted a verbal benefit, this is not binding. It is your responsibility to know what coverage you have and what the insurance requires for that benefit to be paid. Your only out is to contact your insurance company and find out what the appeal process is. You will probably have to submit this in writing. If in the appeal process, it is determined that the dentist's office did not follow the authorization procedure required by the insurance, you may be able to request that the dentist's office reduce the portion you owe, but they are not required to reduce their charges, and chances are, you have signed something (probably the first time you were seen) that states that you are responsible for payment of services rendered, insured or not.

Dental Insurance keeps denying my claim, now I am in collections, what should I do?

I had a root canal performed, which my insurance paid for, however, when I got the crown put in, BCBS denied my claim saying Insufficient Xrays. I paid my portion of the services, but BCBS refused to pay unless sufficient xrays were sent. My dentist office tried five different times but the claim kept getting denied. I contacted BCBS and they said I needed to talk to the dental office. The dental office said they have tried five times and refuse to file the claim anymore and it is up to me to get the claim approved. Now I am being sent to collections for $350. I paid my part, I want them to pay theirs, but I am being blackballed into paying since no one is willing to cooperate. What should I do?
--------------------
You need to clarify with BCBS what they mean by insufficient X-rays? Was it that the X-rays were to blurry to see that the crown and/or root canal was needed to validate paying? Should there have been more X-rays taken to validate, and/or prior and current to prove dental work done was correct. Or it could be that the dentist sent bill, but NEVER SENT ANY X-RAYS at all? You also need to clarify what the dentist office sent to them 5 times? If all else still fails, then file a claim with the state insurance department where you live. When you talk to BCBS, make sure you have a pen/paper ready when you call. You need to ask the person you talk to, their name, ID # plus the date/time that you called. Many times they will deny that they talked to you and they will not note to your record. Also make sure you write down specifically what they need. good luck

If my dental insurance is covered through my mom's insurance do I have to use the same dentist as her?

I don't live with my mom but I'm covered under my mom's dental insurance company. I've made an appointment with her dentist but they can't get me in until September!!!!!! my teeth hurt so bad and are in bad shape. Is it possible to call around to other dentists to see who can get me in quicker as long as they accept my dental insurance?? My boss is giving me every other friday off with pay. I need to start going every other friday to the dentist to keep up my teeth.
--------------------
No .. all you have to do is call around and see who takes your insurance. Or if your mother has a copy of the insurance book... it should list all of the doctors and dentist in there along with their phone number and you can call and see if they take your insurance. As long as they take it you can see them. Others may get you in a little quicker. Just a suggestion I am not sure where you are from but I would not use a family dentistry if there is one in your area. I have had nothing but trouble with them.

My cobra for dental insurance is about to run out and I need dental insurance?

I've been paying $55 a month for 18 months to continue with my guardian dental insurance, however it is going to be running out. My husband's job does not provide dental and I stay at home now. We need a family plan. I've been told it is better to just keep putting the $55 a month away and pay out of pocket, but I worry when we have bigger bills just as fillings, root canals, braces, etc....We don't live near a dental school either to get the work done there.
--------------------
I would strongly encourage you to visit this great site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars on all services. From root canals, cleanings, xrays, crowns...etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. Even orthodontist, cosmetic surgery and dentures are included. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps.

i lost part of my tooth. it hurts and i wander if it could become infected? I have no dental insurance?

is it just because its sore or could it become serious... im willing to pay a dentist, but if it is nothing, then i will wait untill my insurance comes through
--------------------
If your tooth is partially lost your best bet is to have a dentist do an Xray and tell you the extent of the damage and whether the tooth can be saved or not. Chances are you will be better off trying to repair the tooth now instead of losing the whole thing later. If bacteria gets inside somehow you could get an infection then it becomes serious pain. Its better safe than sorry. True dentists are expensive but if its hurting now its best to get it checked. Good luck.

dental insurance copayment too much and i've got a toothache help!!?

I've gone to the dentist two months ago and he said anytime now i will need a root canal. I think the time has come this thing is annoying!!! I have dental insurance, "i'm a state employee", but i can't afford the co-payment fees right now! Comes to a total of 600 for the whole root canal service, cap, and lab fee. I went today to try and get them too finance me but the bank they work with declined me.. I'm really hurting right now.. I'm out of options on what to do for this... What a waste of having dental insurance. Can anyone give me advise on what to do please!!! thanks...
--------------------
Ok - I can really help you. I have given this site out before because its wonderful. Don't worry your problems will be solved. This dental insurance site is very affordable... but here is the kicker. It covers PRE-EXSISTING conditions. Your Root Canal would be covered under it. Most health insurance companies will not cover pre-exisiting. You can set up monthly payments or whatever you need. I had a gum problem and I signed up and it saved me a lot of out of pocket. This dental insurance will help you. My co-payment is very very low and my gums are getting the treatment they need. Discount dental and dental insurance question?

Okay I have dental and except for the ortho part its pretty good. I found out my son needs braces of which I was expecting. What I wasn't expecting was the 6 Thousand dollar price tag, Wonder if its cause I live in the Cape, nor was I expecting my insurance to say yeah we'll pay out only $1500 for that. What!?!?!?! Only $1500? So I get stuck paying $4500 outta Pocket that I don't have, but nor do I want to put off the braces cause I've been there done that. It only gets harder as you get older. Ok anyway time for question. I've been looking into secondary insurance to help out but found instead Ameriplan that discounts services. I found an ortho Dr in both my insurance and in Ameriplan. Before I sign up though does anyone know if you can use both in conjunction with one another? Like have the braces discounted the 25% then my insurance pay their portion then I pay mine? Any and all help appreciated and thanks ahead of time!
--------------------
I would encourage you to visit this great site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I paid only $2200 when I was originally quoted $4500. I think it depends where you live. It worked great for my braces and saved me alot. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my very affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. My rep is very knowledgeable. hope this helps.

Need help with dental insurance!?!?

I recently posted a question for who was the best dental insurance to go through, and I was given this website www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com. I went to the website and was really interested in it but in my town there is no regular dentist that accepts it. Only one orthodontist and one special dentist for special surgeries and what have not. Where can I go to find out what insurance my dentists in my town accept? I have one dentist in mind, but everytime I look to see who the providers are in my area it's always the shittiest ones. Also what are some good websites to go to for dental information in the Roseburg, Oregon area? I have looked at many websites but I don't know a lot about dental insurance or what is the most common for most dental places to accept. This dentist is a pretty big dentist in my town.
--------------------
If you are not insured right now, I would suggest get a dental plan instead. There are no premium, no deductible and no waiting period. Most dentist participate in the plan network. Check the link below to see if your dentist participate.

Does dental insurance seem like a rip off?

I don't know what to do. I try to get these insurance policies but they are like $45 per month and then they will only cover up to $750 per year. I can get get a dental discout card through aetna for $105 a year and i get the aetna pricing. I had dental insurance once before and they actually priced some services like filligs at 40% off wha the dentist charges. I also looked at a university dental school. However, the charges aren;t really a whole heck of a lot lower and you get rookies doing the work. what should I do?
--------------------
Healthcare costs in general are a rip off IMO. Under our current system, the only cost-effective way to get dental insurance is through your employer. People who are self-employed, or work for companies who don't offer dental insurance, often go without routine dental care. You could set aside the $45 per month in the bank and use it when you see the dentist. Some community clinics see dental patients at a reduced or sliding-scale fee, but they are not fancy or state-of-the art places. Just don't neglect regular visits if you want to avoid expensive and painful emergencies in the future.

Legal issue and dental insurance?

So here is my question, I have a PPO dental insurance and went to a participating provider, the dental office charged me 99 for a tooth extraction the negotiated amount with my insurance company is only 64. this was done several times in excess of 1,600. also the dental office just did not submit for prosthetics that I am to receive. I have contacted my insurance company and they have agreed that the amount is do to be refunded but dental office has ignored both their request for reimbursement and mine. My question is what options to I have to receive my reimbursement. Any help would be appreciated.
--------------------
If they are truly " in network" with your insurance and there are no loop holes, like different levels of insurance or something like that, get a lawyer!! good luck!

I'm interested in purchasing additional dental insurance but don't know where to go now. I've researched on the internet and heard about Dental Discount Plans, but I don't think these will work b/c I already have primary coverage. Does anyone have any additional information on this topic that would help? I'm looking for assistance on the expenses that my primary insurance does not cover. Thanks!!!

Exactly how does Dental insurance coverage work? Never had insurance before. Had medicaid, no insurance though?

I work at Wal-Mart and recently enrolled in their Dental Insurance. It doesn't kick in until January, so until then, I'm uninsured. Anyways, I get paid Bi-weekly and every pay check they take out $6.20 for the insurance, which isn't too bad at all. Anyways, I had Medicaid up until I was 18, then of course it was discontinued. How does dental insurance work? I know for certain things, it says you have to meet your annual deductible before coverage kicks in. What is that? On my handbook, it says the annual deductible is $50 for associates. So what if I have to have teeth filled or anything and the bill is like $800, what would my portion be? Also, with insurance, is it like a discount plan where you would have to pay your portion BEFORE the work is done or how does that all work?
--------------------
Typically most dental plans work as follows: If there is a deductible, you must pay that amount once a year before the plan will pay a part of the remaining charges. The plan usually has a maximum per year that it will pay towards your dental care. Usually that is between $2,000-$4,000 per year depending on the plan. Usually the plan will cover a certain percentage of your normal dental care (cleaning, fillings, etc.). That percentage is usually about 70%-80% of the cost. Usually plan will cover a smaller percentage of orthodontic or crowns (typically 50%). Usually the dentist will directly bill the insurance company for their share. Example: Plan has a $50 deductible, pays a maximum of $2,000 per year, pays 80% of normal dental work, and pays 50% for crowns. You have the following bill for work done at the dentist over a period of several days. Exam: $40 Cleaning: $100 Filling: $300 Crown $900 Deductible: $50 Plan pays 80% of $390 or $312 Plan pays 50% of $900 or $450 Plan pays a total of $762 Your cost to the dentist is $578 ($50 + $78 + $450) Plan will pay up to $1238 more towards your dental treatment during the rest of the year. The dentist may bill you before you leave his office after each visit or may bill you later. If you can't afford to pay your share when you receive the bill, you should find a dentist that will accept payments. If you have normal work (cleaning, fillings, etc.), the amount you pay will be relatively small but when crowns are down, you generally pay quite a bit. Some plans also pay 100% for the exam and cleaning.

In regards to dental/vision insurance, do they have pre-existing condition clauses? Is it worth it?

I am thinking about getting dental/vision insurance (I'm working a temp job right now) but I'm not sure if it's worth it for a few months until I find full-time employment (with all the benefit goodies). Do they also look at gaps in insurance (I haven't had dental insurance in almost a year; long story) or pre-existing conditions like health insurance does? I haven't visited my dentist in a year and I have mulled over the low-cost/no cost clinics vs. getting dental insurance and paying insane amounts of money just for some guy to irrigate the quadrants of my mouth. Anyone have any information on this?
--------------------
Take care of your teeth, anyway you can - wait and suffer the consequences! No, Insurance companies do not refuse or penalize people for preexisting conditions - that would be nuts. Start with a teeth cleaning appointment, and pretend to be shocked, yes shocked that your teeth are in such a deplorable condition, and require work.

No Health & Dental Insurance?

Hi, I am a 21 yr male living in TX (Houston area). I live alone, apart from my parents, I work part time and go to school part time. I'm basically a poor struggling college student. Anyways, I know I need some dental work and also it would be nice to have health insurance. I was on medicaid but and went to like a poor peoples clinic where they offered limited dental and medical services but they wont do root canals and crowns, which im pretty sure i need one. My work only offers insurance to full time employees and i hear its really not that good. What in the world can i do??? I'm broke as it is and dont have alot of money for expensive plans but im willing to take out loans. What do poor people like myself do when the need dental work and dont have insurance?

Can I have 2 dental insurance with the same insurance provider?

Hi, I'm currently under my wife's dental insurance plan since her company pays 100%. I went to the dentist last week and my doctor told me that I have to replace my super old crowns and the total cost will be approximately $3,800. So I have to pay almost $2,000 out of my own pocket since my insurance will only pay the first $2,000. However, my co-worker told me that if I have another dental insurance policy through my own company then my extra insurance will cover the rest of the cost. Both my wife's company and my company have Metlife dental insurance plan. Has anyone tried such thing? Or is there some sort of restriction to do such thing depending on the companies? Thanks in advance.
--------------------
Yes you can. Both insurances will pay on the same procedure up to the allowable amount. For example, a filling costs $100. Insurance #1 (Primary - yours) may pay 80% ($80). Insurance #2 (Secondary - Wife's) may pay 80% too but would only pay AFTER primary has paid and will pay the remaining $20. You will probably have deductables for both and will have to pay both. Another thing to consider is that getting a new insurance may have a waiting period for major work such as crowns for a year or so. It may not pay anything.

How much are dental crowns in the midwest after insurance coverage of 60%?

I need to have 3 crowns made for 2 molars and 1 bi molar. My insurance is covering 60% of each crown. I had 3 root canals totally around $500 after 80% insurance coverage, done by a endodontist. I gave my dentist $180 when I had the perm filling put in and will be giving him $540 when i am fitted for the crown. He had to insert a post into the molar. Is this about the correct costs after the 60% insurance coverage? This is only for 1 crown and Ill have 2 more to cover. I have yet to see any insurance claims on the insurance company website for the dentist but saw them for the endodotist.
--------------------
700 for the root canal and around 350 for the crown. I have had several and this seems to be my average out of pocket expense with 60% coverage. It sucks but it's better than the toothless option. Even people with dentures have to have alot of care so take care of what you have for as long as you can whatever the cost. Once you catch up with the other teeth you will be happy. I know I am. Nothing worse than a real painful toothache or the smell of a rotten tooth. Get er done.

--------------------
I've never actually seen a private dental insurance policy that pays out more than it costs - they have deductibles, coverage limits, and waiting periods, because pretty much only the people who buy it, want to file claims. You can buy a "plan" that isn't insurance, and won't actually PAY anything, and kind of promises you a discount - but you can also negotiate that discount yourself, with your dentist. Your BEST bet for cheap dental work, is finding a local dental school

Check to see if your school offers dental/medical benefits to their students.... There's got to be a dentist in the area that treats the students that go to your school... ask around. He probably gives some kind of a discount plan, or reduced rate, for local students... Good luck~
