Tooth stings??? - no dental insurance - what are my options?

It stings when I make a sucking motion....like to gather my saliva before i swallow type thing.... it feels like a big sliver....very stingy.....but I don't think it's a sliver cuz I looked....and the pain is also under my tooth it's such a sharp pain....not like a normal cavity. I can't afford to go pay some dentist hundreds of dollars....I've been so sick lately and missed work I'm only getting 300 on my next cheque and i need to pay bills what do i do??? and what could be the problem? It's the bottom left molar closest to the front....it's also a baby....I'm 21 yrs old....but Iwon't get an adult tooth there. They pulled the same tooth on the other side.
--------------------
UNTIL YOU SEE A DENTIST START BRUSHING WITH A TOOTHPASTE MADE FOR SENSITIVE TEETH. TAKE SOME IBUPROFEN WHEN THE PAIN GETS BAD. BRUSH GENTLY WITH A SOFT TOOTHBRUSH.

If I have dental insurance under both my wife's and my own employer, is it possible for me to use both?

I have to have a few cavities filled and in addition, I need at least 2 crowns. I know I have a max per calender year, but what I'm wondering is if both plans have a deductible, and both pay 50% towards a crown, once I meet both plan deductibles...will the cost of the crowns cancel each other out...meaning both plan's will pay their respective 50%? I know I must find a provider that is in network for both plans as well...can anyone provide some advice?
--------------------
You can use one in conjunction with the other. If your wife's is a better plan then whatever your plan doesn't pay her's will pickup to their max. If yours pays 50% and hers pays 50% her's will not pay anymore on the crown. Where it will come in handy is once you reach your max for the year hers should continue to cover up to their max. Here's an example: You need two crowns. Say they cost $1,200.00 each. Your max is $1,100.00. Your's pays $600.00 for the first and $500.00 for the second (you've reached the yearly max). Her's will pay $100.00 for the second crown. If you need a cleaning or cavity later in the year her's will pay for that up to that max. This is how it worked for me. I have Aetna and Metlife as secondary. You might want to check with the provider or have the dentist do a pre-determination before starting work to be sure.

Does anyone out there have a dental discount plan/card. Are they worth it?

I work for a small company that does not offer dental insurance. I have a terrible toothache and one of my wisdom teeth looks grey.
--------------------
If you go with an internet/home-based discount dental plan, please be extremely careful. There are all kinds of ways this can go wrong. Recently, some of the Detla Dental plans have offered a discount plan called "Patient Direct." Since this is a well-established insurance company, their discount plan would be a more secure option than Ameriplan, or any of the other multi-level marketing plans. Do a search for "Delta Dental" and "Patient Direct" and it should come up.

Dental Plans vs. Insurance?

Up through my early 20's, I was on my father's state insurance (Aetna), and received amazing dental care. They were always thorough, caring, friendly, and did great work. You really can tell when they're putting in that extra amount of care, to get something just right. Once off his insurance, I bought a dental plan from dentalplans .com, and, despite switching dentists 3 times, received shoddy, uncaring work from ALL 3 (one Afghani, one from China, and one from India. Coincidence? I'm just saying.) They all seemed to be overloaded with patients, I felt like just a number, and the work done was not of high quality. Are dental plans only honored by crappy dentists? What's the reality about this? If you Google this topic, you can tell that most of the "reviews" are clearly written in favor of the dental plans. Is this nothing more than a massive marketing campaign for a low level product that caters to dentists trained in a foreign country or something? This couldn't be further from any sort of racist thing, I'm just going by my experiences and that's what it seems like. I don't care if my dentist is from the 5th circle of Hell! I just want a good one, who cares enough to do GREAT work. And now I need to go again, so I'd like to find out what the low down is, from people in the industry. Thanks, dentists?
--------------------
Dentist who are willing to accept dental plans as a forum of payment are, dare I say, despert for payment of any kind. With insurance plans, they'd usually get some cash and the rest of the payments later. With dental plans - they never know if they will be paid or not. If I were you, I'd invest in a cheap, basic dental package with a widely accepted pay base.

How much does it cost for a dental retainer in the US? (without insurance)?

I had braces back in 1999 (when I was in high school) and I think because I didn't always put on the retainer, my teeth started to fall back to the same patterns (nothing serious but it annoys me when I look in the mirror). Now I am in school in the US and would like to get one retainer (until I go back to my country and talk to my dentist). I've heard that the dentist cost here is expensive. ( I don't think my health insurance covers dental expenses). So, anyone can share me the expense ? Oh, can I get invisalign as the retainer also ? and how much ?
--------------------
It depends on where you are and type of retainer. The simplest retainer that I make (vacuum-form), in my office costs about $100 (but you'd have to add on the cost of an exam, since we can't treat without an exam and diagnosis, about another $75) That's the San Francisco area

Will forcing insurance companies to accept all pre existing conditions, dental, prescriptions & Dr. office?

visits lower the cost of health insurance or raise it? Why do Democrats think forcing insurers to provide all of these things will lower the cost of insurance? Is it just wishful thinking or pure ignorance?
--------------------
Yeah damn the government for trying to make corporations treat their customers with basic human dignity and respect.

Medical Insurance, Does anyone feel the way I do that dental should be included with all medical insurance.?

Oral health is part of our overall medical health. I just don't agree with the majority of insurance carriers that ignore this fact. Some offer an "Optional Dental Policy", but I still think it should be in the basic health insurance policy without additional charge.
--------------------
I totally agree with you, but that is how most insurance is set up. To help you save money on your procedures, I would suggest using a dental benefits plan. Any dental work is expense, so it is wise to go with a plan that will save you money. I have a dental plan that is very affordable for my family. They have been around for 15 years and are the #1 Provider Access Organization in the U.S. It is only $19.95 for an entire household. If it is just you, then the cost is on $11.95 a month. There is no deductible or co-pay. Cosmetic procedures are covered. All specialists and even braces are covered. There are no caps or limits utilizing the benefits. The providers within the network are of high quality and value. So this plan actually works better for me than dental insurance. If you want, do your research at http://Stacie.OneSimpleCard.com . This plan may be of good use for you or someone you may know. I hope this info is helpful for you. Have a good day.

Can ONE have more than one health care insurance?

For example, can I have two health care insurance. Will my secondary health care insurance pay off the SOME of the cost my primary health insurance did not thoroughly cover? I'm specially talking about "Dental Insurance."
--------------------
Yes, you can have more than one, but the benefits COORDINATE. Will the secondary plan pay for some of the unpaid costs of the primary? Maybe. Maybe not. It will depend on how the policies coordinate. I've NEVER seen a case where it's "worth it" to buy two policies. It will cost more than it will cover.

Dental school tooth extraction cost and experiences?

Im in need of several back teeth upper and lower to be extracted no dental insurance. people have told me i should use a dental school to save money. closest to me is BU dental school or Tufts Dental school anyone ever use these or others please let me know?
--------------------
Years ago I had work done at the Uof M dental school and the prices were very reasonable. They did alot of dental work.even using some gold for fillings. The only downside was that it takes alot longer and you are in the chair for quite awhile as these are students and the teacher must approve all the work before it is approved,

Medical and dental deductions - are they always pre-tax?

Question for those out there who are experts on payroll deductions: Deductions taken from my paycheck for medical, dental insurance, long-time disability, life insurance, etc...do all companies deduct this money from bi-weekly paychecks on a pre-tax basis or are there employers who do it on a post-tax basis? I have a full-time job as an engineer on a fortune-500 company. Thank you
--------------------
Well...it's more common for disability to be offered as post-tax (because then if you collect, the payments are tax free), but is *is* possible for a company to allow you to request that all benefits be deducted on an after tax basis. (I have co-workers who plan to retire in 3 years doing this.) The difference is that you will pay more in fica/mc and income tax. In exchange you *might* qualify for more ssa benefits when your retire or a higher pension....

Dental plan / insurance in Vancouver, Canada??

I want to know of any recommended companies that offer dental coverage in Vancouver. Prefer one where we can sign up for short amounts of time, and where there is no-stand down period. Any additional information would be much appreciated also. Please recommend Canadian companies!! I'm not interested in any that are only available in the USA! Thanks

i have a freind that needs dental work done they have insurance?

but the insurance wont cover all is there programs that might help them with payment . like a payment plan or some service they are such a nice person but very lonely and has no self esteem i know this would boost it
--------------------
Tell them to try something called "Care Credit" it is kinda like a credit card but only for health care and if you pay back within 6 months there is no interest. Im doing it right now and love it. It came in handy at the right time. Look it up on Yahoo to find out more info.

what are some good dental insurances?

so i need braces, and it seems like ive been looking for a dental insurance for my whole life! its so frustrating and it just seems impossible to find a dental insurance that covers braces extractions, cleanings and fillings. thats all i need. any any help at al?? I live in portland, OR idk if that helps for anything. um thanks in advance.. ANYTHING will help
--------------------
Unless you can get a group policy through work or some organization you belong to, I don't think that any of the dental insurance policies are worth the money. The problem is that once you pay the premiums and the co-pays, you aren't saving very much. But having said that, I get Metlife Dental through my work. They are pretty good, all things considered. They pay for a lot of stuff (like implants) that other policies won't cover. But again, try to get some sort of group policy. Good luck.

Dental insurance....?

What dental insurance can you highly recommend that is reliable and at the same time affordable?
--------------------
Delta Dental is really good, mostly covering 80%. Aflac is also an option. I'd say look for an independant contractor, they are all over the place, ask around...They offer low monthly payments for reasonable coverage. Go for either Capital One or Care Credit...it'd be like paying a credit card bill each month for your dental care/costs. Dental insurance is a supllement, not meant to pay for everything you'll need to have done. We were just discussing this at work. If dental insurance coverage increased with inflation, everyone would be covered at about $5,000.00 each year! It hasn't been changed since 1976 in the U.S. Very sad considering all the people that could use it.

dental insurance?

what dental insurance company do you use if you had to buy on your own, not through work?
--------------------
When I didn't have dental through my work, it was none. I couldn't find a plan that made sense - they have so many copays and exclusions and waits, for the premium they take in, it was cheaper to pay out of pocket. Including getting a crown during that period (which cost me $900). Oh, that was for me AND A CHILD. So fillings, exams twice a year, xrays, crown, and braces for the child. Out of pocket was cheaper. Before you buy a plan, run the numbers.

Can I Get Dental Insurance?

I have suffered from gum disease for most of my adult life. I have a bridge for my front 2 teeth. Now I have an abscess in my lower jaw and lower front 4 teeth feel loose. There is a lot of receding gum showing. I have (NHS) appointment next week. I am anticipating dentist will want to extract the 4 loose teeth. Is it too late to take out private insurance cover so I can get private treatment or will insurance companies say no - pre-existing condition etc etc.

Embed Claim in my dental insurance claim?

I am allowed to two teeth cleaning per year with no six month interval requirement which the insurance customer service reps confirmed at least on two occasions. However, after getting my 2nd teeth cleaning for the year, they dug out some mysterious "EMBEDDED CLAIM" for some service rendered back in January of this year. They claim that EMBEDDED CLAIM contained another teeth claim so I can't have 3rd teeth cleaning covered. They added that EMBED CLAIMS do not show up online on my insurance account. Had they shown the EMBEDDED CLAIM online I would not have gone for the cleaning, and I seriously have doubts about embedded claim as I never received the EOB. However, the submitted cost for the cleaning is $80. Do I just swallow it and pay because it may not be worth the process of appealing and writing bunch of letters to BBB and making phone calls and keep explaining? There was no mis-communication. The insurance company's customer service reps clearly misinformed me, and they should have listed this embedded claim online under my account. What do you think I should do?
--------------------
I'm not sure what an "embedded claim" is. I work the front desk at a dental office and I'm confused about what you told me. What I suggest you do is pay the bill for your dentist (it isn't their fault that your ins didn't pay.) Also, you could ask the front desk to help you send an appeal to your ins company. They have experiences and resources you don't. It's part of their job to help you with ins. Also, once you pay your bill, they will be more inclined to help you and your ins can reimburse you or the dental office if they end up paying for your cleaning. Good luck!
