How does dental insurance work?

I need to get my front teeth fixed by probably root canal/replacements. If I get dental insurance, like $150 per year plan, does the contract say something like I have to pay for 5 years minimum? Can I immediately stop my insurance plan once getting my teeth fixed?
--------------------
I think the waiting time is usually a 6 month period, but it depends on the plan. If it is through your work, usually the waiting periods are shorter than longer. I am pretty sure that you do not have to continue to stay on it...again, depends on the plan. Another thing to look at is how much the plan will actually pay for... Take care.

How do I obtain health & dental insurance while living & working in the UK?

I'm a US citizen. It's always been my dream to live and work abroad. I just found out that my military health benefits & dental insurance won't extend beyond the common wealth's/territories of the US. I can comfortably afford to pay for health & dental insurance out of my pocket. Does anyone in the UK deal with international health & dental insurance? I really could use some help in finding the right company. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
--------------------
you cold just buy health insurance when you get over to the UK, plenty of companies offer this. If your living and working here, and paying taxes you may be eleigible for treatment on the NHS. This is free, and dental NHS is subsidised, an NHS dentist check up costs around £16....i think that is around $30. I checked on line and found this; It focuses more on marraige but if you read it it does actually say Americans Living in the UK... Free NHS medical care is not routinely offered to tourists who need emergency treatment while they are away from home. That is what their private medical insurance is there for, which will cover them in an emergency situation. Without private medical insurance, tourists must pay upfront costs to be seen by British doctors. However, American expatriates who are living in the UK are eligible for NHS medical care, as long as they can prove that they are eligible. American expatriates who are married to UK citizens can prove eligibility very quickly and be registered in next to no time. How to Register Once you have a permanent address, take along proof of your address, such as a recent utility bill, to your local doctor's surgery. It is also a good idea to take a copy of your marriage certificate in case the doctor or nurse wishes to learn more of your eligibility for free NHS medical care. If you have access to your American medical records, take these along with you, so that they can be filed away for future reference. At the time you register with a GP (usually the same GP as your spouse's unless you make a special request otherwise) you will be able to apply for an NHS medical card, that all NHS patients are issued to prove NHS eligibility. This card does not need to be hand carried to each doctor's appointment; nor do patients need to remember their NHS medical card number. New patients must fill in personal information and complete a medical questionnaire that will ask about a family history of heart disease, cancer and other diseases and hereditary conditions. Be prepared to undergo a brief, non-invasive medical to include a blood pressure check, weight check and other simple procedures. Otherwise Bupa and AXA PPP offer healthcare cover. AXA is the best one though!

How much does it COST to get a cavity fixed without dental insurance?

I have a cavity that has been hurting and I am going to get it fixed. I have insurance with AETNA as part of my dad's HMO plan but I don't think it covers dental. How much is the estimate cost to get this cavity fixed---with cost of x-rays, etc.? And, if you live in the San Marcos California area, where would be the best dental office to go in the San Marcos California area?
--------------------
Cost vary from dentist to dentist. If you live near a dental school a lot of time you can get your dental work done there at a reduced rate. I think your parents should make you an appointment to see the dentist and make arrangements for payments with the dentist. Have you spoken with your parents about it yet? If you are still in school talk with your school nurse and she might be able to help with you with where you might get some assistance.

Can I have a PPO Dental Insurance and buy an HMO dental insurance to cover remaining expenses?

My job offers a PPO dental insurance plan through Blue Cross / Blue Shield (Not sure which). Anyhow, I was told by a dentist once that if I have PPO dental through my employer I could purchase an HMO plan separate from my employer and as long as the dentist takes both it should pretty much cover any expenses over which the PPO itself wouldn't cover. Does anyone know if this is true and could anyone recommend insurance plans that this is compatible with? Thanks.
--------------------
This is possible, though both are still limited in their yearly coverage (total $ pay-out), and you will still pay deductibles on both policies. A possibly better (and definitely less expensive) route would be a dental plan. Advantages? No pre-existing condition exclusions, no yearly limits. A great trick I learned from my research reference, is to find out what plans your dentist takes first and then check those out. You can also research dental insurance companies there. Wish you the best...

I only have health insurance. Is there any way to get work done on my teeth without dental insurance?

My two front teeth feel extremely sensitive right now to the point that it stings. I do not have dental insurance, but I have complete health insurance. Because I'm not worried about my teeth's aesthetic issues, is there a way to get this billed at the hospital under my health insurance?

I really doubt it. I would call your medical insurance company and ask them. Or I would encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars since. From extractions, xrays, fillings...etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps.

How do you get dental insurance?

It's like it's impossible to get dental insurance without going through your employer. My teeth are in bad condition and growing up, I don't recall my parents ever taking me to the dentist even once. I'm twenty years old and I want and need to start taking better care of myself. I can't get any kind of insurance through my employer because they simply don't schedule me for enough hours to be eligible for something like that. So where am I supposed to go?

What is the best dental insurance company in Melbourne?

Given that people in this country are not entitled to free public dental work I have no choice but to get some dental insurance Can you recommend some good companies/plans? thanks!
--------------------
No such thing...dental insurances are not worth the paper they are written on. Unless your employer is purchasing and providing, avoid self purchase. Start a savings account and use it for dental expense or use Care Credit for emergencies and pay it off in one year interest free!! Good Luck

Does anyone know of any dental insurance you can obtain yourself in Missouri?

I really need dental insurance because I am in need of some work. Does anyone know of some legitimate dental insurance companies in Missouri? Thanks!
--------------------
Here is a whole search-page about Dental Insurance available in Missouri.....just click & read whatever interests you http://www.ask.com/web?qsrc=2417&o=10188… You could do a similar search for 'free dental clincs' and 'dental schools' in Missouri but I think you'd find the free are quite busy and treatment charges or no charges depends upon your income. Dental Schools charge less but the work is done by supervised students & a appointment that would normally take 45 minutes could take 3 or 4 hours.

what independant dental insurance company should i get with my circumstances?

im self employed and have not had dental insurance for 10 years. im ready to purchase some becuase i know i need some work done. nothing too extreme but enough that i know it might be expensive. i dont even know where to look or who offers independent insurance that has little to no waiting period with good coverage. anyone have a good indie dental plan? if it helps i am located in ohio.
--------------------
Long story short--it is almost never worth it to purchase dental insurance as an individual. Without getting technical, it works worse than medical insurance, because you are attempting to insure against an expected expense, not something unexpected. Dental insurance generally only makes sense when an employer purchases it for a group. And don't be taken in by dental "discount plans" that are really not insurance--most feature unsupportable fees, and there is a strong temptation for participating dentists to "bait and switch" you into other services. How much does it cost for the removal of wisdom teeth and no dental insurance?

I have 3 wisdom teeth that are through the gums and 1 that is still impacted. I have no dental insurance, and no part of my medical insurance covers any part of this procedure. I was wondering if anyone knew the approximate cost?
--------------------
We had really good dental insurance, and it still didn't cover the cost of my wisdom teeth removal. I had two that were impacted and two that were broken from the surface. I think it cost a little over 1300. You only really don't need to get rid of the wisdom teeth unless they are causing you trouble. But i would try the dental school for a lot cheaper.

I am looking for a good dental insurance plan?

I am in my 50's and have dental insurance but it doesn't cover some of the major things. I am looking for a supplemental insurance program that might help with the major expenses I might incur in the future. Does anyone out there have any suggestions of any companies I should look at?

The above 2 posts are TRUE! However, there is still hope for all. There is a way to receive up to 80% off of your dental visits no matter how many times you go. What I mean to say is. Say you get a cleaning in June and are covered up to 80% you pay about $25 then you want another cleaning in July, Yep you pay $25 again. Try to do that with insurance. What about Braces, you ask. You can receive up to 56% off on braces. Most insurance companies only give $1000 a lifetime for Ortho work. Let's see there is more... There is no age limit, all on going dental problems are excepted. Excluding Braces that are already in the mouth. You could get all this and FREE prescriptions, FREE Vision Care, and FREE Chiropractic Care. You say why do you need all that. Well let us look. Your medical insurance is good and covers vision, say you get a pair of brand new glasses today and someone sets on them next week or even 2 months from now. Will your insurance company, buy you new ones? NOPE! But, you can receive up to 60% off on all lenses and frames. There is so much more!! You want that info contact me. ccarr@ameriplan.net
