suggestions instead of dental crown?

Had horrible experience w/dentist. New crown, improper fit. Bite off, couldn't eat. Tooth abscessed, root canal done. Need new crown. Insurance won't pay for another one. Wondering what I can do? Any suggestions please?
--------------------
You shouldn't need a new crown. They should have just gone through the crown to do the root canal. And then placed a filling in it. There is no way to have the insurance pay for it because it is not past the five year mark. If it was the same dentist who placed the crown and did the root canal, you should not be charged for the replacement crown. He/she should be doing it for nothing, since he/she damaged the crown in the process of the root canal. At least, that is the way we do things in our office. The tooth did not abscess due to the crown being ill fitting, and if the bite was off, it could have been adjusted. Did you complain to the dentist about the bite and not being able to eat? If you did and it was never fixed, then you may have recourse with the insurance company. Call them and ask for advice from them. Good Luck, I think you may need it in this case.

questions about my gums and teeth.....?

Okay first I have no health/dental insurance so keep that in mind when you answer my question. I have noticed the last few times I have brushed my teeth my gums hurt really bad. And then today it hurt even worse and I even spit out blood. I have never had teeth or gum problems before. Any idea or suggestions? Could it be a certain food I am consuming or not consuming? Please let me know....my gums still hurt and I brushed my teeth a couple hours ago.
--------------------
Bleeding gums do signal some trouble. I think you may have gingivitis. Best thing to do is brush and floss after each meal. Rinse with some warm salt water and no matter how bad it hurts, keep up the routine. You should see some improvements. Check to see if there is a dental college near by that can offer you a cleaning for a very low fee. They will do a good job and you won't be out a hundred dollars. If nothing else, try to save up for a trip to the dentist for a cleaning. It will save you money and teeth in the long run. Good luck to you.

Wisdom Teeth need to be pulled?

I'm 25 yrs old and I need to get my Wisdom Teeth pulled 1 is really bugging me its all nasty lookin and chunks of it is missing from when i was younger I got hit in the jaw but I never got it pulled even after.I have no Dental Insurance but anyway long story short does anybody have some kind of information about getting Wisdom Teeth pulled for cheap in Knoxville Tennessee
--------------------
Listen to kaylaxbug, not Sabrina N. Dental colleges could do it for low cost if there's one near you but you may want to check some reviews and see if there's anyone who has a lot of experience with wisdon tooth extraction before you confirm the surgery. Last year I had all four of my widom teeth not pulled, but CUT out and the only pain I had afterward was my throat from having my mouth open so long during the surgery.

unexplainable chipped tooth?

I woke up this morning and as I was laying in bed, the bottom of my front tooth felt rough and like the enamel was flaking off. I looked in the mirror and a little piece of it was chipped off. How could this have happened as I don't remember hitting my mouth or anything. Is it important to have this fixed or anything? I don't have dental insurance, and the appearance doesn't bother me as much as the worry that it could cause something more serious.
--------------------
Here is what happened. You had stress cracks in your teeth (or that particular tooth). When you bite on something hard - even things like raw carrots or an apple, as an example - could cause the stress crack to break away the enamel. Perhaps you were eating peanuts or someother hard items. It does not take too much to cause a break off if it is already cracked. Some people get these cracks. This is not normal, however nothing to be alarmed about either. You SHOULD consult a dentist and have this one fixed. They have a plastic cure with ultraviolet that is placed on this crack (or cracks) and prevent it (them) from causing further damage. What will happen if you do not fix this? The bacteria will find room in the broken tooth and it will cause further serious damage like puss, bleeding etc.. The break is a warning that you have to attend to it right away. Do not put it off any longer for the sake of better oral hygiene. In life, some unexpected expenses like this do occur.

Tooth question?

I have a toothache on my wisdom tooth and i cant go to the dentist because i dont have dental insurance and i cant afford it right now. How can i make it loose in a couple of hours. I tried pushing it with my hands but it hurts. Is there anything i can do. My whole cheeck hurts because of it and i really need to take it out. HELP SOON P.S plz dont tell me to go to the dentist my question is how can i make it loose.
--------------------
you can do WAAY more harm trying to pull it outyourself, including hurting your nerves and other teeth. It's insanity that you think you can just knock it out yourself and everything will be ok. check in your area for a dental clinic. They often have something like that for those that can't afford to go to the dentist. Do you have regular health insurance? If so, and you have a medical reason for needing the tooth out, they'll probably end up covering the cost.

i have a weird little thing growing from my gums......?

i have been having some pwin in my gums by my wisdom teeth for a few days and this morning i thought i better have a look and there is this weird looking thing growing streight out of my gums it looks like a tiny little worm but it is not it is skin or something cuz i tried to cut it off and failed i brush my teeth 2 times a day floss and use mouth wash so it is deffinately not from bad oral hygene has anyone had this before? what do i do i have no health or dental insurance so i need as much advice before paying out of pocket at the dentist only serious answers plz thanx!
--------------------
When your wisdom teeth come there is a little piece of skin or like a little flap of your gum that comes up. It falls off in a couple of days. And then you will be able to see the tooth. If not then something else is going on. If it white like puss you should see your dentist. Also try gargling with salt water it help with soreness.

What does this mean?

My filling fell out of my tooth and I was looking at my dental insurance policy and it says Amalgam one surface, two surface, three surface and so on what does the surface mean? does one surface mean one tooth and two surfaces mean two teeth? I'm confused. Does anyone know?
--------------------
The surface referred to is the surface of the tooth that needs repair. There are four sides and the top. Some fillings repair more than one surface. The larger ones would be repairing three surfaces and the smaller ones just one surface.

serious TARTAR question?

i dont have any type of dental insurance and i have bad tartar on the backside of my bottom front teeth. how long before they fall out due to the tartar buildup?
--------------------
Good question. Make sure you brush your teeth when you wake up and before you go to sleep. Also, if possible, brush after you eat. Additionally, floss and use mouth wash. If you do all these things, you should be fine. I would save up some money and get your teeth cleaned that way you can start off fresh and clean. Use a good tooth brush Brush and floss correctly and regularly Keep regular dental appointments, it is not that expensive to clean your teeth professionally I hope I have helped. Good Luck

I chipped my tooth on a beer bottle..help!!!?

So last night I was at the bar w/ my friends and we were being crazy....a little too crazy. My freaking tooth got chipped from someone's beer bottle. Its not that bad...but I know it happened..and I can feel it with my tongue. What should I do?? I love my perfect teeth..now they are all jacked up. I don't have dental insurance at this time either...
--------------------
I chipped my tooth while I was rollerblading once...I hated how it felt and looked, so I just went to the dentist and they smoothened out the chip and filled it in and now my teeth look like and feel like they were before the incident ever happened. It cost around $300, but it was definitely worth it. Just go to the dentist if you want it fixed.

I need braces but I can't afford them.?

I need braces but I can't afford them neither do I have a job or dental insurance and I really need braces what should I do.
--------------------
First I want to say sorry to you for all the stupid answers you received from these jackasses. Answers is for help not worthless comments. You probably won't find anyone to give you braces for free. My child needed braces and I was stressed because I could not afford to pay for them. I researched and found a orthodontist in my area that took affordable payments. Research online and see if you can do the same. Good luck and I hope you find a great orthodontist that will take payments!

wisdom tooth question?

Does anyone know whether most dental insurance cover for general anesthesia when putting us to sleep? to take out our wisdom teeth?
--------------------
I just got mine out 11 days ago and I don't know if mine is covered or not. It depends on the company. It was worth it to me though. I am a chicken. I didn't want to know what they were doing in there! lol. All I know is I went in, he asked me some questions and that is the last thing I remember until I heard them calling my name and telling me to wake up! It was only about 250 to be put to sleep by IV. It was great! lol. In my opinion anyway. Good luck!

Nerve deadening medication?

Mu husband has a really bad tooth ache due to a rotting tooth. He does not have dental insurance. He will get to the dentist as soon as he can. So please do not tell me to have him go now. Pulling a tooth is very expensive. But for now he needs to ease the pain. I have heard that there are medicines that kill the nerve thus making the pain stop. What are these medications and where can we get them?
--------------------
I had an abscess tooth one time, didn't know at the time that it was abscess untill I went to the dentist. I had a doctor tell me one time when my youngest son was cutting five teeth at one time to take childern advil ( liquid) kind, dip your finger in it and rub it on the tooth. it made a difference in him day and night. I tried everything with mine and nothing worked untill I tried that. The liquid advil goes right to the pain, so have him try that and let me know if it works for him too. Good luck,

Why can't pop, candy, and deep fried cooking be illegal?

Diabetes, obesity, tooth decay, and heart attacks--yum those taste GREAT...can I have another? These also lead to an increase in Health Care costs/Health-Dental Insurance and laziness--which hurts the economy. Heck obesity has even been known to break up marriages, social rejection, and low self esteem. And what diabetic likes carrying around their 'crap'?
--------------------
Thank you! I have been quiet for soooo long. The words "morbid Obesity" is the first line under secondary causes on my mothers death certificate. Do you remember when there was that rediculous lawsuit against the fast food chains? Here is my opinion on that. I think that if a bartender can off a drunk from drinking in his bar after he's clearly had enough and if something happens he can be held liable, maybe the clerk at the 7 eleven or the fast food place can refuse to sell a candy bar or extra large french fries to someone who "has had enough" "I am sorry Ms., I can't sell you that Burger with extra french fries, We can clearly see that you have had enough. You might develope severe health problems and then try to sue us later." Well unfortunatly its not going to happen.

Bridges vs. partial dentures - thoughts?

My dad lives near Memphis, TN. I've noticed that he has trouble eating because of tooth pain. My brother says that my dad needs a new bridge or partial dentures. I'm trying to look into this procedure to decide which would be more cost effective (he doesn't have dental insurance) and I can't find ANY information about this. Does anyone have any idea how the costs compares between bridges and partial dentures?
--------------------
I'm not certain of the exact costs of a bridge or a partial as they vary from dentist to dentist and the area in which you live. I'm having a lot of problems with my teeth right now and a partial is my best, most cost effective option. When they put in a bridge, they have to "shave" off part of the crown on the two healthy teeth on either side of where the bridge will be placed, this usually results in getting a root canal and crown to save those teeth, which have to be fixed every 5-10 years. A bridge, depending on the size, can easily cost up to, if not more, than $2,000. A partial CAN be considerably less, depending on the dentist. If your Dad is older and doesn't mind getting a partial denture, that might be the way to go. That way, he never has to worry about having to get those teeth fixed again, and if the opportunity presents itself in the future, he can have dental implants, although those are very expensive. Getting a partial or full denture can be very mentally taxing because we're concerned about our looks and how people will react. Today's partials are much more realistic looking and can be made to match the teeth and can even have imperfections if the patient wants them, to take away from that "fake" look that the old dentures had. There are a lot of websites out there that can explain both procedures and some even offer a rough estimate of what they cost. I don't have dental insurance either, but there are options for people like us. If his local Health Department has a dental clinic, they have discounted prices, so he can at least get his x-rays, exam, and consultation for a lowered price. You can also look into dental schools in the area. They offer their services at 2/3 the cost of the private sector. And then there are free dental clinics, but they're hard to find. I lucked out and found out about one in my area today. I arrived at 5:45 am and there were already 100 people in line, so it took me 7 hours to finish up, but then again, I also received $1,000 in dental work for absolutely free, so it was well worth the wait.
