Can someone tell me stats about living in Chicago, IL?

I would like to know the following: Cost of (per month) -Food -Gas/fuel -Electricity -Telephone -Water -Clothing -Personal care (including haircut, toiletries etc.) INSURANCE -life -health -dental -auto I would really appreiciate it! Thanks in advance.
--------------------
It varies by area for a lot of those things. Food is expensive at most chain places (Jewel, Dominick's) usually. Places like Aldi or local grocery stores are cheaper. So is shopping for clothes. If you want to shop by brand that's a little more expensive but places like Filene's basement and TJ Maxx have decent stuff if you're willing to look. Toiletries and what not are pretty much the same anywhere. There's a lot of Walgreens and CVS stores in most places. Gas and water are usually included if you're living in an apartment. I don't know how much they are if you're buying a house. I don't know how insurance is compared to other cities. Hope some of this helps

Canadian Dental Procedure Code?

I'm a CDA in British Columbia and I'm now living in California working as an RDA. We have a patient who is visiting and needs insurance forms for her canadian insurance (manitoba to be exact) I'm looking for the canadian procedure code for a porcelain fused to metal crown with a porcelain butt margin. (can't remember if different margins have a different code) If anyone can give me a hand it'd be greatly appreciated :)

cavity problems?

Does anyone know the end result of not pulling out a tooth with a cavity in it (apart from the pain)? i dont have dental insurance and i guess its better to die than pay what dentists usually ask for... the prices are crazy, and i cant really go to india right now for the cheaper dentists...
--------------------
if you can, pay the $100-200 to get it filled...if it's infected already, you need it extracted - maybe $120-180. If you just "Live with" the infection, it could affect your immune system and make you sick in other ways. Worst case scenario - the cavity becomes an infection, the infection abcesses, the abcess becomes a cellulits (swelling) which can theoretically, if ignored, swell enough to close off your airway. Take your pick... along w/ calling welfare, try finding a dental school; this will be cheaper than private dentists...also non-profit clinics exist - i work at one in New Hampshire. I'm amused by the guy who answered "go see your doctor." A lot of people who can't afford a dentist don't have insurance - dental or medical, so they can't do that either. At least in the US....

How should I manage my money?

Ok. So currently I work at Macy's for $7.25 for 8 hours every saturday (in summer I worked 30 h per week). I go to full-time college studying enlglish for foreigners (non-degree program). I will have this until nov 17. I will have 1 month gap before I enroll in regular -degree computer science program. I have balance on my checking account only $1616 left. Now I have obligation to pay $418 on credit card (more than half balance for school supplies and little dining on, transportation). What bothers me a lot is that I do not have healh insurance. I would like to buy it. There is a temporary insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shield for $255 for 6 months - $1500 deductible, $1000 out of pocket limit, 20 % coins. hospitl admision $85. dental discount plan would be included and I do not have this but soon I have to go to dentist to clean my teeth from cavity on 10/20. I calculated if I spent for insurance I will have only $943 left. with no insurance $1198. are the money worth spending for BC?

Packing a lunch can certainly be nutritional. Just pack two sandwiches if necessary. As long as you are filling yourself up, and as long as it's not junk food and contains different food groups, it's nutritional. You could cut your lunch bills in half by packing lunches every day. Trust me, I've done it and done the number crunching. I used to spend $5 on union lunches, then switched to lunches consisting of a sandwich or two, an apple, and a soda. Never buy stuff from vending machines at school. You can buy snacks and sodas in bulk for like a third of the price, then just keep stuff in your backpack for when you get hungry. If you have the time, you should shoot for more like 3 or 4 work days a week, but only if you can maintain your grades while working. As for the health insurance, many colleges offer discounted health insurance through the school, so you should look into that to see if it's a better deal than the Blue Cross Blue Shield.

False Tooth?

I need a pricing variation on false teeth. I need a molar. Either a bridge or a tooth I don't have dental insurance. I have some cash in stash, though.
--------------------
i went to the local dental college, and i found that to be much much much cheaper. you might want to check to see if there is such a critter where you live. the dental college cost me less than half of what a regular dentist wanted even using the dental insurance i had.

Cheap/free dentist in NJ?

Does anyone know where I can find one? Even a dentist that allows payment plans? I think I have a cavity on my top left front tooth. I cannot even brush them without having the worst pain. I do not have dental insurance, and the base of the tooth is kinda black and caving in if that makes any sense. Thanks!
--------------------
You might want to try and see if there are any dental colleges in the area as they will do work like that for free or for a small fee. Contact your public health department as well they may be able to help.

Dentist in Atlanta?

My husband and I are looking for a dentist either in the 85-Clairmont area / Norcross near the perimeter / Vinings (ie near our work or home). They don't need to be cheap just reasonable since our dental insurance covers a lot. They just need to be good. And I don't want to get pushed to cosmetic treatments, just cleanings and fillings and such.
--------------------
You can use the yellow pages or http://www.switchboard.com to find ones in the area and then call the office and discuss fees and philosophies. There is also a GA Dental Assn http://www.gadental.org/ which has a referral service that may be useful,

Filing teeth?

Has anyone really got their teeth filed? How much would it cost average? i have "rabit teeth" and i wanna know if itll hurt and how mcuh it would be? i do have dental insurance if that covers it?>\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
--------------------
i would suggest calling a dentist and asking them the price for the procedure-if you give them your insurance info they can give you an estimate, some dentists can just file them and others may want to do a simple nerve test- its really not too bad ..... as for the filing itself itll be similar to other dental procedure you may have had minus the pain...the dentist just uses an istrument to smooth the teeth down until they look appropriate and maintain your bite sometimes for a day or two you may experience mild sensitivity to hot and cold but nothing to ail over its because even though you have always had the same nerves in your teeth the are suudenly "awake" by the procedure but it wont last it ll partly be becaue theyll feel new and different to you too...Good luck and keep smiling!!!

Teeth feeling wierd?

Ok about a week ago I was telling my g/f that my gums bleed. She said not good and told me to start brushing, flossing and using listerene twice a day, I have followed this regiment and now my gums don't bleed when I brush anymore, but lately my teeth have felt very tight and some of the teeth feel kinda loose. it isn't much but it moves like less then a millimeter and cannot always repeat it. I was just wondering if my gums are kinda of retracting after being swollen all though it was never really bad to begin with. Any idea what maybe going on? I know most of you will say go to a dentist but I do not have dental insurance.
--------------------
Warning signs that you HAVE to see a dentist: *gums are red, and/or noticeably receeding back from teeth *drainage of pus around any tooth *tooth changing color (gray or brown) *pain in or near a tooth that is worse when you drink hot or cold liquids *obvious cavity (dark spot) Otherwise - you might be brushing too hard, try either using an electric toothbrush, or only hold the toothbrush with your thumb and two fingers. Some people are sensitive to listerene (all the alcohol), try a different brand with less/no alcohol. Also, use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth for 2-3 weeks and see if that helps.

Re-Filing Every Claim!?

My famiy has dental insurance with a company that has done us really well until the last couple of years. We have a regular dentist and a pediatric dentist whose offices are having to re-file every single claim submitted in order to get paid. It's really getting to be a pain. Who should I contact of write about this?
--------------------
Contact the number on the back of your card, for member services. Ask them if there's a problem with the dentist - like, are they getting BOTH sets of claim forms, but maybe the first one isn't signed? Or they're forgetting to add procedure codes? If they're only getting one set, perhaps the offices are mailing to an old claims address, and there is now a better mailing address they should be using to submit the forms . . .

Permanent crown fell out! Help!?

My permanent crown fell out after 7 years of having it. How much will it cost to cement it back on with no dental insurance?
--------------------
As long as it can be re-cemented. If there is a problem with the tooth under the crown you may not be able. But if you can then it is around $75. At least that is what it costs at our office.

Gum Odor please help!?

I am having a bad breath odor which seems to be coming from my gums. Nothing I can do will take the odor away. I would see a dentist, but I'm disabled and do not have dental insurance. Is there anything I can do? This is becoming unbearable!
--------------------
Sounds like you have gingivitis. It's caused by plaque build up under the gumline and unfortunately it has to be removed by your dentist.

Question about teeth?

my mother's teeth are very yellow, thats not the biggest problem though. I'm sure she has tons of cavities, but she has one tooth that has broken off a little and she says it feels like its about to fall out. Does that mean its rotten? We do not have enough money to go to the dentist, or no dental insurance. Is there anyway we can prevent it from falling out, or her getting that horrible disease, periodontitis. Please help
--------------------
It may be hard to search for, but try checking your area for local dental schools, as they usually run free clinics. In the meantime, I would recommend to her listerine, and if possible, some peridex (an oral mouth rinse that is generally prescribed to patients with abcess in the gums, usually its prescribed, sometimes not), and brushing and flossing twice a day.

fafsa, change to lower income parent...?

i applied for fafsa since i started college three years ago, and have NEVER been eligable. thing is, i dont even live at home with my mom, i live with my boyfriend, and i live off $500 a month from stipend i get from my scholarship. here's my problem. i want to do "corrections" on my 07-08 fafsa and put that i'm living with my father, who gets low income. i know that if i just use only his income, i will be eligable to get some fafsa. is it ok for me to just put my father's income on the fafsa, and not my mom's and stepdad's, if i dont leven live with any of them and live on my own, to get any amountof financial aid? is it considered illegal to not report my mom's income, even if i'm not living with her? other than medical and dental insurance, i don't get anything else from my mom, no money, nothing, i support myself in every other way. so, can i just make corrections to fafsa and only put my father's income?
--------------------
When your parents divorced, was your mom or dad awarded custody? If it was your mom, then you must legally use her information when completing the FAFSA. If your parents were awarded joint custody - who provided more than 50% of support for you? Again, if it was your mom, then you must legally use her information. At this point you cannot make corrections and change from your mother's income to your father's. You could try and complete a special circumstances appeal with the financial aid office, but unless there are extenuating circumstances as to why you need to change, then it will most likely be denied. Sorry! Talk to a financial aid officer at your school for more information/guidance. Good luck!

my teeth are crooked..?

my mom doesnt have dental insurance and i need to go to the orthodontist because i know i need braces and my parents will never be able to pay for it. what should i do? is there a way to get free braces and consultations? in hendersonvill nc
--------------------
Unfortunately, I do not know anywhere that offers free braces. Most offices offer a free consultation. Dental colleges offer cheeper orthodontic work because the residents are training to become orthodontists. (Don't worry these residents are already dentists going back to school and they work under the supervison of a Orthodontist.) There are also financial assistance programs that are like medical credit cards. Our office uses CareCredit, and we have many patients who use it. It has no interest for a year as long as you make the minimum payments. Many offices also have their own financial systems. Hope I helped! :)

What happened here?

I met a man and we proceeded to know each other. He told me G-d had answered his prayers with me, promised to spoil me,make me blissfully happy and as soon as I agreed he changed gears and proposed friends with benefits. I did not agree and did not sleep with him(still havent) and we remained just friends but talking as if we were bf/gf even about real state we could share as a couple. I had some money left over from a loan and he started telling me about his lack of dental insurance & other financial problems. I said I could not help because I lost my job and need the money to survive until I get a job but maybe we could live together/share expenses to help each other out. He e-mailed me to back the F--k off that I was never his woman and since it is obvious I feel I am being led on by his calling or picking up the phone, we will not even speak and he has not answered not returned my calls. What happened here? How did I go from dream girl to nightmare?
--------------------
Just a case of smooth talker. A guy will tell you anything he can just to get what he wants, not all guys of course, you will find the right one, most likely when you are not looking. Notice his reactions, all he wanted was sex and/or money. I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone else. Sorry honey. I myself have been caught by one of these men, but don't worry they all get what's coming to them.

No money, wisdom tooth infected?

and I do have Medical AND Dental insurance, great health care my work has huh? What in God's name can I do, short of having to pay $1400 to completely fix it? I don't have the money, and I can't bear this pain any more. It's awful. I am nearly sure it is infected
--------------------
Your health coverage won't cover the removal of a wisdom tooth? Why "Fix" it when it is better to just yoink the unneeded tooth? Where are you located? (City) You could always call up a clinic I go to here in chicago and ask if they have any recommendations for community clinics in your area... I go to Howard Brown: www.howardbrown.org I'm in Chicago but there has to be a national number they could recommend... Either find a free clinic in your area or go to County and see what they can do for you... Any chance you can work out a payment plan with your dentist?

Help!! I see my wisdom tooth coming in?

Geeez I'm 20 years old I thought I was done teeth growing in.. Why is this one coming in now? Is this normal? What should I expect when it grows in? I don't have any dental insurance..
--------------------
Your at the right age for wisdom teeth to come in... I didn't get mine pulled till I was 24. What to expect.... Hmmm.. Depends on how they are laying in your jaw... All 4 of mine were on thier sides, and when they came in, my mouth didn't have room to accomodate, so they pushed forward on my molars causing discomfort and MAJOR swelling of my gums back there... No biggie though, when they start to hurt is when it's time to get them pulled... My mom's came in perfectly straight and she's 55 now and still has them... So it just depends.... As far as insurance goes, I have a really good dental plan that saved me a TON of money when I had to get mine pulled.... Check them out, maybe they can help you too... www.savondentalplan.com

Root Canel or pulled tooth?

hi guys..heres my story. I went to the dentist a couple months ago for some work. Now they want to do a couple root canels as well as crowns. One tooth is so bad (tooth # 15, upper left molar tooth) they want to pull it. Another one is tooth #4 which is a bicuspid. Another one is tooth #6 which it says its an anterior. Tooth #11 (anterior) tooth #21 (bicuspid) tooth #30 and #31 (both molars) I don't have much money. In fact, I have really bad dental insurance, and I have only a $1000 CareCredit Card, which is maxed. Difference between root canels/crowns and a pulled tooth is literally a thousand dollars or more. I want to get this done as soon as possible but can't due to the money. I want to get braces asap. Would the dentist be willing to pull any of these teeth like the back molars? any input would be greatly appeciated thanks!

get some second opinion, your teeth may not need all of that procedures.

My son is married, currently doing BCT at Fort Sill, OK and he's asked me to help him get his wife set up with?

Medical insurance. We are going for her DEER ID tomorrow. What do I do after that? The paperwork he sent from the base gave a # for personnel at Fort Sill, but they NEVER answer. There's no # included for the insurance-(only TriCare Dental). How do we go about getting her medical ID? I don't even know the name of the insurance carrier. Thanks.
--------------------
Once her information was entered into DEERS she was automatically enrolled into Tricare Standard. With Standard she goes to a civilian provider that is approved and there is a co-pay and yearly deductible. When she gets her ID card she can then go to the base hospital and change to Tricare Prime. With Prime there is no co-pay or deductible, but she is seen on base with her PCM (Primary Care manager) for any other appointments she can need a referral from the PCM. She will not start with Prime until August 1st unless there is an emergency because she is enrolling after the 20th of the month. She will receive her Tricare card in the mail http://www.tricare.mil With Dental that is separate through United Concordia. For that she must sign up first and pay the first month, after that it is deducted from his pay. http://www.tricaredentalprogram.com/tdpt… It is $13 for 1 dependent or $31 for a family. This coverage includes 2 free cleanings a year, then a co-pay on each visit when work is necessary.

Help: Root Canal or Tooth removal?

I am scared and broke....but I have dental insurance...
--------------------
~Your dentist will decide which one is best. They usually try to save the tooth in as much as they can. Root canals and the subsequent crown you'll need are expensive even with insurance, I had one 6 months ago and my out of pocket was $500.00, the rest was covered by insurance (which was close to $1,000 - insurance covered 80% of the surgery and 50% of the crown) I have had 2 in my life, and fortunately did not duffer any pain afterwards, but some people do have a horrible time of them. Some dentinst do not allow payment plans either... I had to fork $100 deposit when I made the appointment, and the rest right before the surgery. Don't be scared, you will not feel a thing when they do whatever it is you'll end up needing, and you'll get good meds for afterwards, Good Luck!!

Cracked tooth..now what?

I went to the dentist yesterday for the 4th time about the pain in my tooth when I bite. Part of the pain was being caused by a filling that was too high. The tooth on the top however is a different story. After much searching the dentist said she could see a crack in my molar! That's what has been causing this pain! I asked her if it was really bad and she said that if I wasn't having problems with it, that it probably wouldn't have been treated. Here's the problem, I have already used up my plan allowance on my dental insurance for the year. I need a crown and I'm broke! Is this something can can be left untreated for at least 6 months? Or, should I suck it up, take out a signature loan with the bank and have it done right away? In the mean time, what can I do to help with the pain until I see my dentist for the crown prep?
--------------------
IF you wait you could lose the tooth all together. I would get the tooth done right away. However, if the crack is not that bad it could make it. But all it takes is biting the wrong way or on somethig to hard and the whole tooth could just fall apart.

Wisdom teeth and Jaw clicking ??????

HI im 21 years and and never realy had any wisdom teeth problem untill one of them got inpacted well with out dental insurance i got that one removed........ that others seem to be strait but my dentist keeps on telling me that i have no room in my mouth for them and i should get them all removed.... about a year ago i noticed my jaw started click something when i eat and it dint realy bother me but now its getting worse and worse does it have somthing to do with my wisdom teeth that i have no room for in my mouth??? Thanks
--------------------
I have a jaw clicking problem too, but they said I did not have TMJ. I ended up getting braces to cure the problem, but it's still a work in progress. My jaw was clicking for a while, until finally it just popped out of place - twice the same night! There are things you can do to not aggrevate it and prevent it from popping out of place. I had to give up chewy things like gum, tootsie rolls, and even certain types of jerky (not the kind that's shaped like a stick). Anything that's super chewy like the things I mentioned are foods I'd try to avoid. I also have a habit of just biting my teeth together, which also causes the popping noise. If you have a habit like this, I'd try to break out of it, because this also leads to your jaw popping out of place. If you don't want braces, then I definitely recommend getting your wisdom teeth pulled.

sudden toothache?

i don't know if it's a cavity, because i have been to the dentist in january and they said no cavities, but yesturday afternoon my tooth started to hurt....REALLY bad. then it was only when I drank something (cold or not). I know that I have sensitive teeth..and I also have braces, but a tooth has never hurt like this....I have no dental insurance either :( what do you think the problem could be, and will it just get worse?
--------------------
If the dentist gave you the all - clear in January then I doubt anything serious could have developed in that short time. Sometimes wearing braces can make teeth extra sensitive and flare up very suddenly ( I wore braces) or it could be a bit of broken off filling, or something stuck between braces, teeth or food under your gum. See if you can locate the pain and have a look in the mirror in a good light. It would be best to return to the dentist as soon as possible to rule out anything more serious.

W2 vs 1099?

I am a proffessional who is looking to go and start contracting on an independent basis. I was employed until now and was payed a fixed salary annually. My question is abt 1099 vs W2. Though i understand the basic diffefrence between them how do i compare a job paying me $50/hr on a W2 vs a job paying $50/hr on a 1099. Keeping other considerations aside such as contribution to 401(k), employee/contractor status, medical/dental insurance etc. , which of the 2 is a a more lucrative contract to take up. PS: Can anybody point me to a website/blog/url that can help me in understanding the market rates for a project manager in the it field.
--------------------
Keep in mind - as a contracter who is receiving a 1099, that 50/hr is much less. One of the biggest reasons is that you have to cover your entire Social Security and Medicare taxes. Normally as an employee receiving a W2, you and your employer split the cost of those taxes down the middle with each paying 6.2 % for Social Security and 1.45 for Medicare. Now that you are self-employed contracter you must pay the whole thing - 12.4 and 2.9 respectively. Also you must foot the bill for your own medical insurance, etc... often times employees are unaware that their employer subsizes up to 90 percent of these costs as well.

root canal crown/WISDOM TEETH question! :)?

hii, i got my root canal done in march and its STILL not crowned! my dentist hasn't told me ANYTHING about even getting it done? is he trying to wait for my tooth to break so i pay him more or something lol :P acutally i asked him about it when i went for my followup about a month later and he just said, "eventually". my next appointement isn't even until february 2008 for a regular checkup :S why hasnt he told me anything??? he put a filling in it so it looks like a regular tooth... when do i need one? my parents own their own business and so we don't have dental insurance so its going to cost them SO much money :( and i also need 4 of my wisdom teeth out and that will be like 1000$ he said too! whats the worst that can happen if i leave my tooth uncrowned for like 5 months so i can earn some money myself. alsoooo for my wisdom teeth.. my bottom front teeth are kinda butterflied together, they point inwards. will my wisdom teeth like push them in more???

I'd get it crowned as soon as possible. I made this mistake. The dentist didn't tell me to come back and get it crowned so i left it. About 5 or six months after i had the root canal done, the tooth started breaking away in little pieces. What happens is that the nerves are removed during the root canal hence why you have no feeling in that tooth. It becomes what they call a "dead tooth." No nutrients are going to the tooth to keep it healthy thats why they have to crown it. Anyways what happened was my tooth cracked to the point of not being able to repair it. I had to get it pulled in the end, so make sure you get it crowned as soon as you can! Good luck.

root canal crown/WISDOM TEETH question! :)?

hii, i got my root canal done in march and its STILL not crowned! my dentist hasn't told me ANYTHING about even getting it done? is he trying to wait for my tooth to break so i pay him more or something lol :P acutally i asked him about it when i went for my followup about a month later and he just said, "eventually". my next appointement isn't even until february 2008 for a regular checkup :S why hasnt he told me anything??? he put a filling in it so it looks like a regular tooth... when do i need one? my parents own their own business and so we don't have dental insurance so its going to cost them SO much money :( and i also need 4 of my wisdom teeth out and that will be like 1000$ he said too! whats the worst that can happen if i leave my tooth uncrowned for like 5 months so i can earn some money myself. alsoooo for my wisdom teeth.. my bottom front teeth are kinda butterflied together, they point inwards. will my wisdom teeth like push them in more???

Getting Braces? help?

I'm getting Braces in a couple weeks and I was wondering the price of Braces? I have dental insurance... My teeth are not completely bad I have a over bite but its not bad and a slight gap on the side! Just looking for answers.. Thanks!! :))
--------------------
If you have dental insurance, you should be fine. Braces are VERY expensive. Its like, thousands without insurance. But most insurance companies will pay for most of it. You'll have a deductible. Probably $100 or $200, then they'll pay the rest. Just check to make sure there is no maximum amount that they will pay out. Can you answer mine next? I could really use a girl's opinion, and I think you'll have fun answering it! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

part of my tooth broke off!!!!!!?

the 2nd molar from the back broke off so when i eat food gets stuck inside the tooth and i need to use floss, fingernail, toothpick to get it out. it doesn't hurt but it's irritating to have food stuck in it. so can the dentist fix it and what will they do? but how much does it cost as I dont have dental insurance!
--------------------
Yes, it can be fixed, and you should have it fixed as soon as possible before the tooth decays or gets infected. Unfortunately it will probably be expensive. Probably you will need to get a crown - they will grind your tooth down and fit you with a cap that goes over your tooth - it will feel like a normal tooth. There are clinics that will be cheaper or even free. You should not wait to fix this!!!

Need braces or DENTURES!? 26 years old...?

SO my teeth are pretty bad. I have all of them, but they are rather crooked. I have dental insurance, but I dont know if it covers braces, and everytime I go to the dentist they say they "cant do braces with the condition or straightness or whatever of my teeth" Should I just get all of 'em pulled and get dentures?
--------------------
i would defiantly go to another dentist or even better an orthodontist for a second opinion. there is not much out there that braces cant do. it may take several years, but it can be done. in my opinion, that dentist probably has limited knowledge on braces and fixed/removable orthodontic appliances. Maybe you need a RME or twinblock appliance prior to braces, and the dentist just doesnt know how to work with them. Hence the reason why i think you should go to an orthodontist. i work directly with patients who wear dentures and they shouldnt even be an option for someone of your age who just wants a better smile.. Dentures have about 10-15% of the chewing strength as natural teeth, and many problems arise from it. Once you pull your teeth out, your gums and bones will start to shrink (and keep shrinking forever), and eventually you will have problems with stability (especially on the lower jaw) unless you get implants to retain the dentures, and even then, you will have problems with food getting stuck under them, bad breath, cracking the dentures, tooth wearing out on the dentures over time.. if you dont get implants (because they are expensive) and just get dentures made to your mouth, you may not have a problem with the upper, but the lower will surly give you problems with sore spots, instability, no retention, and it will be extremely difficult to eat food such as steak and other harder food.. if possible, take a photo of your teeth so we can see how 'bad' they really are.. Maybe cosmetic treatment is all you need on the front 6 teeth to have the appearence that they are straight. A few crowns or veneers may be enough to give you a nice natural smile. in my opinion, do not pull your teeth out and get dentures (not even partial dentures)

Help. Root Canal, Antibiotics?

I was told I need a root canal. I was having some pains in a tooth where a filling had came out. I saw a dentist and he said I need a root canal and put some meds in my tooth with a temporary filling. How long will the antibiotics help with pain after the infection is gone. How long will it stay infection free if I have a temporary filling protecting the nerves. I know it needs done but I currently have no dental insurance and plan on having it in the near future.
--------------------
The problem is that the longer you wait, the more risk you have of losing this tooth.Eventually bacteria will get under the filling and cause more decay in this tooth. If the decay goes into the nerve then the tooth will need to be extracted. You also are running the risk of a cracked or fractured tooth. I wouldn't wait more then a month or so.

What's up with this? Everyone please help,ok?

My boyfriend James & I broke up 9 months ago. This was our 3rd real break-up. Anyway,it seemed like we were very much in love with each other, but we had a huge fight one night at the lake.I was in the process of getting a divorce but I needed the dental insurance for awhile. The man I am divorcing and I don't sleep together at all,and we are trying to help one another with our children and adjust to everything and all the changes. My mother told my boyfriend James that I was happily married and that I have done this before, and that I wouldn't ever leave my husband. He started believing it finally, and we broke up,then it seemed like we were getting back together when he takes his ex girlfriend back whom he had a son with, and she got pregnant again by him she says, and the child is due any day now or they already had the baby? Anyway,he spies on me and watches me,yet won't talk to me or anything, but he spies and he stalks me. I don't know why he's doing it? He knows that I am a nice woman

Why are Doctors and Dentist more worried about money than there patients?

I went to a dental college to check to see if I could get a discount on dental work. First of all I work everyday and I have dental insurance. The work I need is very expensive and insurance will only pay a little. Every dentist I have seen wants 2000.00 up front to start the work. The dental college does not accept insurance and there fee's are right up there with the other dentist's I have seen. The student I saw at the college told me up front that they would need the money before anything could be done. I don't want free dental work. I just can't pull that much money out of my hat. What single working mother could?
--------------------
Because some people won't pay and you can't repo the work. Dentist cost money for staff and equipment and to pay off student loans. Dental schools need people to practice on so should be a little cheaper so look for people without insurance so they need a bargain. Since you have insurance go to a practicing dentist so you pay less there.

My tooth is loose...?

I was eating a sandwich and bit into a hard little plastic thing. I deno what it was but it cracked my tooth and now it's loose! What should I do? I might be able to pull it out because it's sooooo loose or maybe I should wait till it falls out? I don't have dental insurance so.. yeah. I know that a tooth wont grow back but soon I'll be able to pay for a bridge just not atm cause of some financial situations I'm in right now. So what can i do right now?
--------------------
If the tooth doesn't hurt, I would recommend one of the two following options; 1- Wait... leave it alone and see what happens. Do not try to pull it out yourself! You will just end up hurting yourself, or breaking the tooth further and needing a surgical extraction to remove the root tip rather then a simple one to get the whole thing out! 2- Call your local dentist. Ask them how much a "Limited Exam, X-ray, and a simple extraction" cost. It is pricey but not WAY pricey. If you still don't think you can afford that, ask if they do a payment plan, or if they know of a Dental school in the area or a free clinic you could go to. They will be full of info for you! Good luck, and keep brushing the loose tooth until you make up your mind.

Gums-Swollen with pics Any suggestions?

Every since I can remember, I've had swollen gums to varying degrees. Sometimes it isn't so bad and sometimes it is. The main complaint I have is that there is an extra "piece" of gum right over the middle point above my two front teeth. My last dentist had no suggestions or explanation. I don't currently have dental insurance. But I really don't understand what is wrong with my gums-- the extra "piece" has always been there since I was a little kid. Here are pics just look above the two front teeth thanks!! http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i106/p…
--------------------
Gums are like fingerprints- no two alike. No dental insurance. Try 1 800 dentist- they may be able to direct you to a dentist in your area that is reasonable- or contact your own State- many have help for those unable to pay for a dentist. Now... For the swollen gums : in a small cup put a teaspoon of baking soda and a cap full of hydrogen peroxide. add about 1-2 ounces warm water. Apply this concoction to your teeth and at the the base of your gums with a Q-tip. Gently massage into the gums. Then rinse thoroughly with arm water- swishing it in your mouth. Do NOT swallow the mixture. Repeat this no more often than once a week. Good luck.

broken tooth...oh god it hurts!!?

I have a broken tooth, it hurts like hell. It had a silver filling put in it a while ago and now its broke but the filling is still hanging in there. the enamel has been eaten off on the side of it too. I swear I could just rip it out right now, it hurts so bad. I am dirt poor, no dental insurance, how much do dentists usually charge for extractions....and yea I know it depends on the dentist..obviously, but ballpark figure here...
--------------------
which tooth are you talking about? it sounds like after your tooth broke you may possibly have some nerve exposure. an extraction may be less costly but if this tooth is one that you do alot of chewing with then perhaps having it fixed may be better. it's hard to say ballpark depending on your location. where i live, an extraction, without doing a surgical (difficult) extraction, it would cost about $90. or the filling may only cost you $120 to save the tooth. but thats where i live. good luck.

You can get your dental problems addressed by going to a local dental school or a community health care center. However, that will not take away your problems altogether. You need to see your PCP to get your medical condition taken care of. Good luck !!

sensitivity?

Is tooth sensitivity around the gumline normal? I have always gone to the dentist 2 times per year for cleaning, but have not been able to go since August 06 because I don't have dental insurance now and can't afford to go. It is just along a few teeth (not in the same area). It doesn't hurt when I eat, but is bothersome whenever I touch it with my fingernail or rinse with cold water. Not something that hurts, but has concerned me for the last few months.
--------------------
It sounds like you have some tooth abrasion. This may be caused by the way you brush. Always use a soft toothbrush and light pressure. Take note of where you are starting when brushing(we usually start and end in the same place by habit), then try to start somewhere other than were you are sensitive. This is not something that can be reversed, although you can keep it from getting worse. Try a sensitive toothpaste for 2wks. and see if that helps also. Good luck and see a dentist as soon as possible. This is for JFK - I'm surprised that your dentist didn't mention that you have slight recession. You might want to give him/her a call and talk about it--and how to stop it now before it gets worse.

--------------------
if you need a temporary fix until you get to your dentist you can go to any drug store and get some temporary cement that will last for a day or two. its by the dental stuff, its easy to use. it should cost you less than fifty dollars to have it re-cemented, if you go to the dentist that put it in it may cost nothing, just call and ask.

Wisdom Teeth?

I think I am just starting to get my wisdom teeth in. I can't really tell for sure, but I feel that my teeth are more extended than they used to be and I am constantly biting my inside cheek. We don't have dental insurance so I'd like to be able to be sure before I have to go to a dentist. If there's a way to tell, please let me know. Also, it seems that this is only for the left side of my mouth. Is that likely to happen? Would it be something else? Thank you.
--------------------
If there is enough room for your teeth, you won't even necessarily have to do anything. You are allowed to have wisdom teeth! You could keep biting your cheek because it got swollen by the first random accident - try and suck on some ice and be extra careful for a few days. You can get free dental care often at dental schools. Good luck, I hope it's nothing :)

i want my teeth fixed!!?

My teeth are straight and all aligned, but i have so many gaps between them! my parents don't have dental insurance, and it costs like 4000 dollars to fix them... which we can't afford. but i want my teeth fixed more than anything! are there any alternative plans?
--------------------
There are a few options, such as a going to a dental university to be a guinea pig for graduating dentists to work on you, but these waiting lists can be long, and if there are mistakes, you will have to come back to get them corrected. They will redo the work, but you will have to endure the pain all over again. You can try looking south of the border in Mexico. I started www.mexicandentalvacation.com because I had dental work done in Mexico, and was not very happy with the results. I figured, why not set up a US style dental clinic in Mexico, with excellent quality? It has been 4 years now, and we have a Seattle dentist, Dr. Stephen Mackey working with us, and we charge Mexican prices, about 50% less than what you would pay in the US or Canada. We have a long list of satisfied customers, and can provide these references on request. This may be a great way for you to take care of it. No offense, but given the choice, I would rather have an American dentist work on my teeth than a Mexican dentist.

I need a root canal....?

I need a root canal on my 2nd molar on the top right side. I live in St. Louis MO. I was just wondering if anyone knew the approximate cost of it because I don't have dental insurance. I'm hoping that I can afford it after my income tax refund comes back.
--------------------
Now a days root canals are pretty much painless. You take the medicines they give you and you'll be fine. Here in NJ it costs about $600-$800 on average for a root canal. Then you will need a crown. They run from $800-$1450 that I've seen. Hope you get this taken care of. You'll be fine. :)

go to the dentist and go as often as he or she tells you too the reason they hurt and bleed after going is the neglect......also make sure to brush your teeth at least 2 times a day and use mouthwash good luck

I need veneers on my top 6 teeth.?

I have tooth decay and such and I was told $6,000 for the 6 veneers. I'm too young to get dentures LOL and I can't really afford the $6 grand for my teeth! I do have dental insurance but I don't think they cover cosmetic dentistry. Are there any other options? I live in Canada!!

FYI, although porcelain veneers are the nicest, these are the most expensive and no insurance will pay for elective cosmetic work. Resin bonding is a wiser alternative.

braces questions?

are braces really that bad?? and do they hurt? and about how much do they cost without dental insurance?
--------------------
All your questions vary on different things. The younger you are....the less pain you will have. I have brace and am in my mid twenties....honestly, they hurt the first 2 -3 weeks. But then again, my teeth have been in my mouth for many years as opposed to a younger child. My niece who is 8, got her braces put in Feb 27, and she had mild discomfort for about 2 - 3 days, mainly it was just a matter of getting used to something that wasn't there before. IMO, brace are not really that bad. I've had my brace for 10 months now and my teeth look 90% better. I still have quite a few months to go...but still I am so excited. In the long run all the discomfort, and mild pain is worth a beautiful smile. As far as the cost, that will vary from person to person. I have referred my two close friends and my niece to the orthodontist and no one is paying the same. I had a lot of crowding at the bottom and a bit on the top, I had clear braces, not the invisalign but the ceramic bracket, I paid $5000 without dental insurance and I pay it month by month $156/month with no interest which is pretty cool! My niece was quote $1800 for upper and lower she pays (her mom actually) $88 per month however, she only got brackets on 8 teeth cause she hasn't lost all her baby teeth. My BFF got quoted $4200 for upper and lower and she pays about $125/month without interest My other Friend paid $4000 for upper and lower and she paid it up front with her income tax refund So to be honest, the amount will vary greatly on how bad your teeth are, crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, will you need headgear, teeth removed to make room, etc Sometimes people need two phases. Like my niece, she is only 8. Her braces will be removed when she is 9 1/2 and then once the rest of her teeth fall of she well resume orthodontic treatment when she is 11 1/2. Sorry my explanation was so long...hope I helped.

Wisdom Tooth Pain....................................…

My boyfriend is having his wisdom tooth come in. He doesn't have any dental insurance and we have very very little money (going to the dentist is out of the question) is there anyway he can remove the tooth himself? Can he slice his gum to relieve the pressure?
--------------------
No, he can't and he shouldn't. That could cause a life-threatening infection! There are dentists out there that do charity care or set up very low monthly payment plans. Get out your local phone book and call EVERY dentist! Chances are, you will find someone that will help. It is very dangerous to try to do any dental work yourself. Your boyfriend needs to see a dentist. Make it happen!

Florida child support guidelines.?

My wife and I are coming up with a settlement for child support, she's ready to get this divorce over with. The amount the guidlines say we both are responsible for is 1384 a month. So my half monthly would be 692.00. Is it normal for the judge to order me to pay half the medical/dental insurance and half the daycare expense too, in addition to the 692?
--------------------
this is the way it works.. the only way its cut in half like what you are saying is if you and her make exactly the same amount every month.. if not they go by the difference in percentages.. for example.. lets say you bring home 4000 a month and she brings in 2000.. they would say your responsible for approx 70 percent of that 1384 a month so basically if your income is more then hers expect to pay over the 692 .. and yes they will order u to pay half of all medical and dental bills, if u have medical / dental through your company they will have u put the kids on your insurance .. now lets say they figure out your child support is 700.00 a month and u have insurance through your job.. and lets say you pay 200 for your insurance and lets say you have 1 child.. a family plan would cover insurance for you and the child so they would divide that 200 in half.. 100 for u, 100 for your child.. then the 100 for your child would be divided in half cause your half responsible for the insurance and your x wife is half responsibile so that would leave your spouse owing u 50 dollars a month to pay towards that insurance, so they at that time would drop your child support payment to 650.00 to give u the 50 dollars your entitled to for the insurance from your x wife.. .. now if your x wife carrys the medical insurance on the kids and then your child support would go up the 50 dollars that u'd owe for your share of the insurance premium.. and yes you would be responsible for atleast half of the day care expenses as well.. and depending on how much more you make then her, they could actually make you pay for a higher percentage.. my husband had to pay 75% of my childrens day care Ok if you make pretty much even amounts.. then expect it to be pretty much 50/50 acrossed the board other then who carrys the insurance, depending on the medical insurance .. if you carry the medical insurance, figure out how much u pay a month in insurance divide it by how many people are on the plan, then divide only the childs / or childrens share of that insurance plan in half to figure out the difference .. and either subtract that from your share of the child support or add it to hers depending on who carrys it.. but just so you know.. its mandatory now in florida that all child support payments go through the florida child support depository now..

What can I do about my teeth?

So my wisdom teeth are starting to grow in and the pain is ten times more excruciating than I thought it would ever be. I haven't been able to eat anything solid for two days now and I almost want to cry. Obviously I need to go to a dental clinic, but I'm currently unemployed and I don't have the insurance to cover the work I need done. Help, please?
--------------------
Until you can get some funds to see the dentist (and you need to work on getting there ASAP because you can get infections, abscesses, etc), try taking ibuprofen (Motrin works wonders) for the pain. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth at once and they grew in impacted (touching other molars, pushing teeth together, did quite a bit of damage). That may be a big reason why you're experiencing the pain. Wisdom teeth come so late in age and at a time when your mouth is, basically, out of room. So they force themselves in there. It is CRITICAL that you get to a dentist. Perhaps you should check your local listings for a free dental clinic or places that make provision for people with no insurance and little or no funds. But get some ibuprofen for the pain and try to endure. EAT. Soft foods...applesauce, cheese, cream of wheat, oatmeal, peas. And stay away from straws. Hope this helps...

Analyze my BUDGET!!!???!!!???

OK, so I will be starting my first full time job in about 5 months, and I will be making $40,000 dollars per years. What do you think of this budget? What am I missing? Gross Monthly $3,333.34 Fed Income Tax ($350.50) State Income Tax ($134.00) Social Security ($194.26) Medicare ($45.44) Health Insurance ($52.00) Dental Insurance ($25.00) Vision Insurance ($7.82) 401(k) (6%) ($200.00) Net Monthly $2,324.32 Expenses: Rent/Mortgage ($550.00) Utilities ($70.00) Cable/Internet ($65.00) Cell Phone ($50.00) Food ($250.00) Car Payment ($115.00) Gas ($100.00) Spending Money ($160.00) Remaining for Savings$964.32 My biggest short term goal is to save for my own house. I currently have about 18,000 already saved up for that.
--------------------
I think you are shorting your plan on utilities and vehicle fuel, also, I don't know where you live, but 550 for a mortgage or rent is pretty cheap. The car payment might be a little low, unless that is your current payment and you are content with your vehicle. You better allow more for spending money... You are missing clothing (new job, promotions, events), life insurance, IRA funding (401(k) and Soc. Sec. will not be enough), vehicle repairs, maintenance, tires etc., home-owner assoc./condo fees, home improvements, unreimbursed medical expenses (co-pays etc. ), vehicle insurance, existing debt (student loan or credit card), haircuts etc. I am not trying to burst your bubble, but these thing are the items that have popped up in our life recently, that were not planned on 3 years ago. It is good that you are thinking like this though. Keep up the good work.

afraid to take hiv test :-'(?

Health insurance and scared of HIV testing? I need to find a good dental insurance that would cover braces, teeth cleaning and and x-ray. I'm married (only 22) and I'm a full time student and part time worker. My husband is a full time worker, but he quit his old job, meaning that we lost our health and dental insurance. My husband has been accepted to a job that pays him really well, but no health or dental insurance. So i need to find a good dental and health insurance that will cover my braces, and it must be inexpensive. Another question, lately I've been so scared, I can't sleep nor eat. My body is trembling with fear thinking that I might be HIV+. I want to take the HIV test, because I'm afraid that I might be positive. two years ago, my husband and I got married on April '07 so we had intercourse. Then on June '07 my husband went to take the HIV test and he came out negative. Now two years later he is going to take an HIV test again just to make sure, but I'm so scared to take it. I'm afraid to tell my husband that I want to come with him to the doctor so we can both take the test, and I'm afraid to talk to him about it. I'm afraid my husband will leave me, if I positive with HIV. When I was 19 years old, I lost my virginity to my ex boyfriend, but we broke up. Then I had sex with a friend of mine, thinking we can make this relationship work, but it didn't. Overall I had sex with 3 guys in my life including my husband. The friend and the ex boyfriend had sex before i knew them. My husband has never slept with any woman before me, so basically i was his first. .I regret losing my virginity at 19, because I'm the first girl that my husband had sex with. My husband is a awesome guy and very well conservative. My husband knew about the two guys that i had sex with before we dated, but I'm afraid he will leave me if i take the HIV test and it comes out positive. I'm also afraid that if I tell my parents and family that I'm HIV positive they will cry and yell at me. In the past I have done horrible things to my parents: yelled, rebelled against them, and etc. Now I'm trying really hard to fix my broken relationship with my parents. what should i do? i want to have kids with my husband one day, but i feel like i might be HIV positive because i had sex with two guys before I know him and if i am, my dreams of having a family with my husband will be broken into pieces. :-'( please help ... 13 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. gosh i'm so scared. i can't stop thinking about it all day. I wantt to go to the clinic and get test tomorrow, but i work tomorrow. My only day off is next Tuesday and Friday
--------------------
Aren't you being a little melodramatic UNLESS one of the men you have slept with has test positive for HIV? Tell hubby you would like to prove beyond a doubt you are negative before considering a child in your near future. You are a grown up with grown up issues so you need to act like it.

Dentist denying forwarding my records/x-rays due to unpaid bill?

When I lived in Seattle, I saw a dentist once, and his son (also a dentist with his own practice) twice. Once for routine, again when I was sure I had a cavity, and again when the tooth with the cavity had pain. I was told it was not a cavity, and that it was "just decay" and that they would "put a watch on it." Now, my insurance was giving them hell about paying, even though I had full dental insurance. They had to resubmit for each visit many times. The last time, though I was still covered and verified this with insurance, the office claims insurance denied the claim, and that I owe them $240. I have not paid this due to current financial strain. (You know, keeping electricity and water on.) Anyway, just recently, this tooth I was having issue with BROKE. Now, I take insanely good care of my teeth, to the point of where strangers compliment my 'beautiful smile.' Now that I'm back in Massachusetts, I went to my family dentist, who's great, the day after the tooth broke, and was told I needed a root canal and a crown. :( Cue a bill of almost $3,000. My dentist wants those x-rays and records. *I* want those X-rays and records because if this was caused by negligence on their part, of their not finding an obvious cavity and ignoring my pleas for help and a filling...I will be getting an attorney to insure these dental bills are compensated. :( So my major question is, do they legally have the right to deny me access to my dental records due to a bill being unpaid? I *was* insured and do not know why the insurance was denied (we had separate dental, not just supplemental) for a routine checkup. I thought that under the Freedom of Information Act, any records they had on me could be obtained at any time, regardless of financial standing, since this impacts my oral health, and so, overall health. Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for the long-windedness; I just wanted to cover all bases.
--------------------
Almost all State laws say that a dentist cannot refuse to forward your records or copies of them for any reason including an unpaid balance. I don't believe the Freedom of Information Act has anything to do with this problem but almost all State Dental Boards have it specifically written into the dental laws of their state. Google the dental board of the specific state to find it.

OUCH!!!!! My tooth!!!!!!!!!!!?

Part of my molar (2nd from the rear) broke off and now it feels very sensitive like cavities. It broke off last year and I couldn't do anything because I don't have dental insurance. Food used to always get caught in there and since the toothbrush can't reach inside I guess I got cavities. So should I just let the cavities do away with the tooth? I let it eat away my wisdom tooth that way and it came out. Or should I try to save it even though I don't have dental insurance.
--------------------
You will have to go to the dentist for this no matter what anyway. You don't just yank out a molar or wisdom tooth, those things have some pretty serious root systems attached to your head. If you ignore it and continue to let it rot away, then you will be much worse later on. These things NEVER get better, only worse. You can also do severe damage to your jaw if you don't treat it. Find yourself a dentist, get the work done, and figure out a payment scheme that works best for you both. Few dentists will expect full payment up front.

Any one work in the Dental Field?

I have had 2 wisdom teeth come in on my left side. It hurts soo bad. I was given some pain medicine which only takes some of the edge off (Vicodin 5/500), but not much, I'm also taking an antibiotic. I don't have insurance and waiting until I can save up the money to have the two teeth pulled...will this pain stay the same until then? If so, what else can I do to stop the pain? Help!!
--------------------
A. I have never heard of a dentist who will pull teeth for free if they are really hurting, the dentist after all runs a business as well. If he/she was giving out free dentistry to all the people that needed teeth pulled than they would be out of business. B. You need the services of an oral surgeon, not an endodontist. A endodontist is a specialist that does root canals The pain should subside after the teeth come in fully. They may not be able to come in all the way if they are angled a certain way, then they will just get stuck behind the last molar that they are coming in behind. Make sure that you keep this area very clean. I know that the last thing that you want to do is to brush and floss this area but you must. The more bacteria that is allowed to accumulate the worse things will get. Add 600 mg of motrin, or advil along with your vicodin. Alternate the two meds every six hours and this should help with some of the pain. Also stay away from any hard foods, or spicy foods. Swish all through-out the day with warm salt water and make sure to brush your teeth after every meal so the food does not sit on your teeth. Wisdom teeth are known to come in a little and then stop. Then you will feel sore again, and then it will stop. This could go on for many weeks to months. The most important advice is to keep the area as clean as possible, use warm salt water rinses, and swish at least twice a day with listerine if you can tolerate it. Keep taking that Motrin (as long as you are not allergic to it) on a regular schedule so it can stay in your body. Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflamm. which can take away some of the pain associated with the teeth coming in. BTW I went through this my senior year in high school right before prom and I can remember that it was not fun. I went through so much ora-jel that I thought that I actually became immune to its effects. The warm salt water really helped me with the discomfort.

Questions about braces?

Ok so I'm going to be getting braces this summer but I have a few questions about the cost. My mom's job offers dental insurance and she's going to get that but its gonna take like a few weeks for it to be finalized and stuff. Anyways yeah I want to know about how much it costs for your braces each month, if you have dental insurance, and if you go to a local orthodontist or one by a bigger company (sorry if that doesnt make sense)??
--------------------
The cost of braces varies. If you go to an orthodontist, you'll pay more than if you just go to a regular dentist (but it's worth it to go to the orthodontist, believe me). And various orthodontists and dentists have various payment plans, so it's tough to say how much it would cost per month. I think mine were about $2500 Cdn (from an orthodontist), give or take a couple hundred. My orthodontist had various options in terms of how you could pay for it (i.e., there was some flexibility in terms of the number of payments). Your mom's dental insurance may or may not cover the full cost of the braces. My parents' dental insurances (from their two jobs) didn't fully cover mine. If you want to know how much your braces will cost, your best option is to call the orthodontist him/herself. Then you'll know.

What is the hole in our health care system that needs fixing?

I hear there are millions of working americans and their families that have no health insurance..due to employers not offering it.....which sounds like a very bad situation. But I also often hear that everyone in this country has access to free health care if they need it. I also know that in politics people will exaggerate things to make their case so they can have their way. Which is it, are millions of americans not getting health care? Are millions of elderly gettting healthcare but its not really adequate, and their prescriptions unaffordable? Is health care too expensive? Maybe we dont have a problem at all as others say.. Which is it? If your positions is that everyone has access to good free preventative health and dental care, then please be kind enough to explain how it works...does it vary from state to state? Are some states not providing adequate free health care for those who need it? So many questions....but I think you get the idea, please give good information
--------------------
A record 47 million Americans did not have health insurance last year, while the percentage of children without insurance rose for a second consecutive year, according to US Census Bureau data released yesterday, leading Democrats to charge that the Bush administration has ignored a growing, more vulnerable population. The census data found that, compared with 2005, the number of uninsured Americans rose 5 percent last year to 47 million, due in large part to cutbacks in employer-sponsored health coverage. It also found that 11.7 percent of US children under 18 lacked health insurance, compared with 10.9 percent in 2005. In a CNN poll this spring, 64 percent of respondents said the government should "provide a national insurance program for all Americans, even if this would require higher taxes," and 73 percent approve of higher taxes to insure children under 18. Those results track New York Times and Gallup polls last year, in which about two-thirds of respondents said it is the federal government's responsibility to guarantee health coverage to all Americans. Such polls allow Kucinich to joke that, far from being in the loony left, "I'm in the center. Everyone else is to the right of me." More seriously, in a recent visit to the Globe, he accused the other Democratic candidates of faking it on healthcare reform. "One of the greatest hoaxes of this campaign — everyone's for universal healthcare," Kucinich said. "It's like a mantra. But when you get into the details, you find out that all the other candidates are talking about maintaining the existing for-profit system." Kucinich quoted the 2003 study published by the New England Journal of Medicine that found that 31 percent of healthcare expenditures pay not for actual care but for administrative costs. That compares with only 16.7 percent in Canada. Administrative and clerical employees make up 27 percent of the healthcare workforce in the United States, compared with 19 percent in Canada. "With 46 million Americans without any health insurance at all and another 50 million underinsured," Kucinich said, "isn't it really time to look at the other models that exist that are workable for all the other industrialized nations in the world? When you think about it, the only thing that's stopping us is the hold that the private insurers have on our political system . . . corporate profits, stock options, executive salaries, advertising, marketing, the cost of paperwork. . ." The hold of the healthcare industry on the top candidates is already apparent. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the top recipient of campaign contributions so far from the pharmaceutical and health products industry is Republican Mitt Romney ($228,260). But the next two are Democrats Barack Obama ($161,124) and Hillary Clinton ($146,000).

Wow,how doe's it feel to have something taken out of context and a joke taken seriously.?

What is a refundable 5000 dollar tax credit for health? To get any half way decent health insurance it will cost upwards of a thousand to fifteen hundred dollars a month. I pay 150 dollars a month for two, and that's with a group discount, and no dental, and my wife pays 100 dollars a month for medicare.

Hes out of touch. I bet he does not know how much health care cost because he doesn't have to pay for it. If he did, that's pocket change to him.

Math Word Problem come one come all to help please :)?

Ink Inc., a publishing firm, offers its 899 employees a cafeteria approach to benefits, in which employees can enroll in the benefit plan of their choice. Seven hundred thirteen employees have health insurance, 523 have dental insurance, and 489 have both health and dental insurance. (a) What is the probability p that one of the employees has either health or dental insurance? p = (b) What is the probability p that one of the employees has health insurance but not dental insurance? p = if you can get this write i will give you best answer if you could show how you got the answer that would be really cool to. thanks for the look and maybe the help
--------------------
489 have both health and dental insurance, therefore 713-489 = 224 have just health insurance and 523-489 = 34 have just dental insurance. Therefore 899-489-224-34 = 152 have neither health nor dental insurance. (a) The probability that one has either health or dental insurance is (224+34+489)/899 = .831. (b) The probability that one has health insurance but not dental insurance is 224/899 = .249.

Can a damaged crown be repaired?

Recently, a gum drop pulled off a back molar dental crown. On the top of the crown, there is a small hole. Can this hole be repaired somehow and replaced on my back molar? I would just like it to last about 6 months until my insurance kicks in to get a new cap made. Thanks.
--------------------
If something like that is broken, I would think it would be more likely that the dentist would replace it. Repairing it might be harder to do and possibly leave places where particles of food might get in and cause problems.

low or no cost dental help?

I have a bad toothache on my left bottom molar. It started about 4 days ago and is just getting worse. I have a dentist but I owe him on a bill that I am paying on and he has refused to treat me further until I pay of $2700 which I am trying to. Does anyone know of any resources in North GA I can use to get this tooth taken care of? I have a new job and insurance hasnt kicked in yet. I am in alot of pain
--------------------
You could try a dental school near you. The students there could do the work on you, and it would be cheaper. You could also sign up for a dental discount plan and use that until your insurance kicks in,( or use both). With my company's plan you can use it the same day that you sign up. What city in GA are you in?

1/3 of $700 is 700/3 = $233.33. So yes you did.

Would you stay or leave this marriage?

-He hasn't kept any of his promises. -He lied about having money in savings (none in savings, no retirement, no life insurance, owned nothing, he & his adult son were living with his mother when I met him). -His son's behavior changed drastically after we were married. I now know enough about this lazy 20's something kid to know he did lots of bad things (hurt animals & elderly relative) as a teenager & is likely a sociopath. -He blames his son's criminal activities on our government (He is naturalized US citizen, his son is here on a green card). They both say our laws are wrong. -He works his own business, sleeps in afternoon, no regular hours. -I work 2 jobs, do all housework (groceries, dishes, laundry, cleaning, etc) plus all outside work (mowing lawns, shoveling snow, the trash, auto maintainence, etc) -He sits in his lounge chair watching TV while I do all the housework. -He earns 13-15,000 a year. I earn 4 times as much. I carry all our medical & dental insurance. Stay OR Go?
--------------------
I would go. A marriage is a unity and should be done together if you are not getting any support I would leave as fast as I could. There is no reason why you should put up with the crap that you are putting up with. This is the U.S. and if his son cannot follow our rules then he needs to go. If he is in his 20's why is he still at home and not working and living somewhere else? Good luck. Stand up for yourself as a women. You already know that you do not need a man to survive. I am going through something similar.

Price of wisdom teeth removal (Canada)?

I need to have my wisdom teeth removed, and I don't have dental insurance. I know it will likely vary between dentists, but could anyone give me a ballpark price (CDN) for how much it would cost without insurance? (I live in Greater-Toronto-Area, Canada).
--------------------
Try contacting the Canadian Dental Association. Ask for the name of your local dental society. Contact the dental society to see if you can get the names of dental clinics or dentists that provide free or sliding scale services. You may also want to look into receiving dental from a local school of dentistry clinic.

Sealants for your teeth...again?

When I was in maybe 2nd or 3rd grade my dentist had put sealant's on my adult teeth to help prevent cavities. Now that I'm 30, I just got my first cavity. Since my sealants have gone away to nothingness over that last 20 years or so, can I get sealants put back on now as an adult, and will my insurance cover that? (military dental insurance "Concordia")
--------------------
Im a receptionist @ a dental office and i know that most dental insurance companies have an age limited as to what age they will pay for to get sealants put on what i would suggest you do is call your insurance company and ask them if sealants are covered and if they are to what age. Hope that helps.

false teeth?

Im not on welfare, so I cant have it done for free, yet i dont make enough at work to have any serious work done. Is there any kind of program or lower cost dental insurance out there that I can turn to that would help someone who is stuck between the income brackets to get the dental care I need?

shady dentist?

Sometimes I feel like all dentists are shady. I have a 2k maximum that my dental insurance will cover (100 percent). The dentist said I need to do 3 crowns, this will take up all the money. My teeth don't hurt, I take really good care of them. I may have a few cavities here and there, but I don't see why I need so many crowns. When are crowns necessary and when are they just cosmetic? Hopefully someone in the dental field will be reading this.
--------------------
It's hard to tell if your dentist is "shady" without looking at xrays and doing an actual examination of your mouth. Sadly, it has become the norm now-at-days for the dentist to try to "sell" you treatment. Most dentists are concerned more with making more money rather than proper treatment. Let me start off by saying that I am a dentist. However, because of an accident I am no longer able to practice dentistry. I am very saddened by the state of my profession. For example, my wife went to a new dentist the other day becuase of where her new insurance has coverage. The dentist came into the room after all her xrays were done and started to tell her she was going to need a lot of work, and 4 appointments of deep cleaning. She then said to the dentist, "Before you go any further, my husband is a dentist." The dentist then told her that she could probably "get away with only doing 2 fillings and a simple cleaning." I just found so odd that the amount of work my wife needed changed in mere seconds because of the occupation of her husband. I can't say if your dentist is doing the same thing, but I can advise you to do the following, if it doesn't sound right, get a second opinion. Some things to avoid in looking for your second opinion, or new dentist, is to avoid any place that operates a large number of facilities all over the place. Avoid an office that has MANY dentist working under the same location name. Finally, I would avoid any office that looks like Donald Trump owns it. There is a reason why an office looks like a million dollars, and it is not because the dentist is only doing the work that NEEDS to be done. Thanks
