Should I get dental insurance?

I need to go to the dentist for a checkup (it's been about 8 years). I just don't know whether to get dental insurance first? I don't think I have any serious problems except maybe a cavity or two. How much is the average rate for dental insurance, and where should I go to look for one? There seems like there are so many, and I have no idea where to even start. Any help would be appreciated, and I am a student on a very limited income.
--------------------
I would encourage you to visit this great website: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago and they have saved me thousands of dollars on all of my dental services since I was in college in Texas. From extractions to xrays, fillings, Cleanings, root canals, and even my braces had coverage. They even had my affordable benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and Hope this helps you.

Is it possible to get health insurance with dental and vision care?

Im sure it is, but most of the time the dental and vision care portion of the plan sucks. Is it smarter to get them seperatly even if you think you have perfect teeth and vision.
--------------------
Yes, you should buy separate dental, vision and health plans. Generally, dental and vision are auxiliary benefits which means they are not the main focus of the plan, which is the health care portion. Buying separate plans will, in theory, enable the plans to be more reliable. This is very much like buying anything else. For example, if you buy a devise that includes a GPS, iPod, and cell phone, you would think that the GPS aspect of the devise would not be as reliable as going out and buying the device itself. Perfect teeth and vision does not last forever, especially with increasing age, when health insurance no longer is an option, therefore I do not recommend that you let this affect your choice of insurance plan. Hope this helps.

If you can't afford dental insurance, do you think the dentist should give you a small discount?

If you don't have dental insurance, tell me how you can ask the dentist for a small discount or if he should give you a discount.
--------------------
Hey Jewel, I am a dentist and if a person pays for the service in full on the same day I render it I will give them an 8% discount (Only 4% with a credit card as I have to pay the 3-4% for credit cards used in my office). I don't do this for insurance patients because I have to collect the insurance payment directly from the insurance company and that takes a couple of weeks so I don't receive payment the same day. One person suggested Care Credit for financing treatment and that it a great suggestion. I don't work with Care Credit but I work with the Dental Fee Plan through Capital One which is very similar and I'm sure your dentist has some institution he or she works with- just ask them. I don't consider it tacky when a patient asks for a discount as long as they do it tactfully. Just say something like "Do you have a discount for cash patients?" Believe me cash patients are my favorite patients. Insurance companies are a pain in the butt to deal with and I have to take a discount when working with them, so I sure don't mind to do it for my cash paying patients. BUT...I DON'T GIVE THEM A CASH DISOUNT UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT. Dr. R.

Which (dental) insurance covers invisalign/invisalign teen?

I know that it depends on your dental insurance plan and etc, etc, and that it can be considered a cosmetic procedure, but if you have gotten Invisalign or Invisalignteen, or even tried to see if your insurance covered it, I would like to know if it did or even if it didn't (so i can rule them out) and which company it was, if that isn't too much of a hassle. Thank you for your time!

question about health and dental insurance?

i need major oral surgery.will my medical insurance cover the surgery or should i file under my dental or file for both...
--------------------
You have to file your claim with your dental insurance, as health insurance have exclusions for dental procedures. Before you do, check your dental insurance policy to make sure that they cover the surgery. With a lot of carriers, there are different levels of coverage. They'll pay for check ups, cleanings, and x-rays; but that's it. If you opted for the higher level of coverage (that covers fillings, extractions, etc), you will still need to check your coverage limits because there is probably a dollar limit per year that they will pay. A fair warning though, your dentist/oral surgeon's office should file the insurance claims and do that leg work for you, if they won't then beware. If the office staff is lazy and unwilling to do their job, that attitude might be shared by those performing your surgery. Good luck and take care.

Are there dental Insurance plans that can be activated in less than 30 days?

I've run into a situation where I need ti buy insurance asap and get in. I'm not so keen on the discount plans but that seems to be all I can do. I'd like to ask a dentist a few questions. I'm new to my state and do not yet have a dentist here. I've chipped a tooth and it has negotiated a crown. It's sensitive but not super painful. please help point me in a good direction.
--------------------
Only Discount Dental Plans seem to available. My Physician has refer ed me to a Dentist, who was willing to the the work without a discount plan. That saved me the over hundred dollars for the yearly fee,(for the Discount Plan) and for that price I had my teeth cleaned every 6 mos. However I only get the cleaning done. If you have time enough ask your Doctor, or inquire around if you can find a Dentist that will do the work at a more reasonable price since you have no Dental Insurance, and perhaps they can arrange some kind of payment plan for you. The advise above about the Dental University Schools is also a good source to try.Keep your mouth tongue and teeth extremely clean especially before going for a Dental Exam. My very best wishes.

If not, I would encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 3 years ago now for all my dental needs and they have saved me thousands of dollars. I need a free website for people looking for health or dental insurance.?

Or if anyone has questions about either so I can help them out.
--------------------
Many insurance lead companies will give you a certain amount of free leads (check into each lead co first to see if there is a purchase necessary on the back end). Also, with the lead companies, you can often times negotiate a deal with them - they want your business so you can sometimes get the leads at a discounted rate and/or talk them into 5 (or more) free leads. It never hurts to ask for what you want - the worst they can say is no. I actually market and sell discount plans - I have had good luck with Craigslist (advertising your plans for free) and local marketing, flyers, business cards, etc. I hope that this helps you.

Dental Insurance for college student?

I am a college student in Pennsylvania. I really need to get some dental work done because I know I have a cavity or two. I do live at home, but my father does not have any type of insurance. My school also does not provide dental insurance. Are there any sites where I could apply for some insurance? I really need to get some work done but I only have a part time job so I can only afford so much. Thanks so much!
--------------------
You have four options with dental. 1. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Den… 2. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With insurance you pay $460 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 3. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With discount plans you pay around $827. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 4. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

is there dental insurance/plans that pay for everything?

it seems like there are a million dental plans but for the services they offer they only pay like 30% of what it costs so it kind of seems stupid to pay them every month when you're going to be stuck with a huge dental bill anyways. Are there insurances that pay like how health insurance is, if I get a bill from the dr from something health ins didn't pay it's usually just for lab work and everything else was paid in full or close to it.
