Is this what tooth decay is?

I think I have tooth decay in one of my teeth. actually im pretty sure since there is a hole there. but it dont hurt when i eat or anything so Im guessing its not that bad. I admit I havnt taken good care of my teeth in the past but since I found this problem it has scared me into taking better care of my teeth. But My question is if i keep brushing my teeth 2 to 3 times a day will the hole get worse? I dont have dental insurance and dont have the money to pay to get it fixed.

my mouth is so sore somebody please help?

OK first off it's not a tooth ache...My gums are swollen but not real bad and I believe it is from my wisdom teeth coming in....I'm not going to lie and say that dont have any teeth problems or that I never have...but I have never had pain last like this I have been hurting on and off for 3 days...more on than off....Its not always hurting but the most annoying part of it is that it feels like my jaw is really tired and I cant relax it..like when you chew for a long time.....my point is anyway is there anyway to ease the pain...i have tried orajel...tylenol...and warm salt water.....nothing seems to help.....my other problem is I dont have dental insurance anymore plus Im pregnant so they cant cut my wisdom tooth out.....Please help??
--------------------
You need to find a dental school around you or a community clinic that is low cost. Many people think they can't go to the dentist when they are pregnant, but that is not true. They can even take your wisdom teeth out with just a local anesthetic. (not put to sleep) Tooth pain will not go away with anything until the problem is taken care of. (example-take the tooth out) How far along are you? Most likely if you ask your OB you can take antibiotic and tylenol 3. Use half warm water and half peroxide rinses and you can even brush with it. Use warm compresses on your face 10 mins on 10 mins off. (These instructions are all for wisdom teeth pain) So hopefully that is what it is.

Can I get my chipped tooth fixed free because of their mistake?

I went to the dentist on Wednesday (6/2/10) to get two cavities filled. After the dentist was done drilling the person who fills the drilled wholes came and started working on my teeth. I didn't know what she was doing because the most she said to me was you need to start flossing better. I notices she was filling because I figured she was just trying to get the rough edges from where it was drilled. I couldn't feel anything so I didn't know any better. When she was done she said she took the liberty of filling in a small practically unnoticeable chip because it bothered her. Never bothered me mind you. I was thankful for the gesture though I didnt no I had a chip anyways, she told me not to tell and also told me that the filling might not hold. She however did not tell me that if the filling didn't hold it would be larger and sharp. My filling fell out today a week later, I don't have dental insurance and paid out of pocket for my cavities and I am not sure what to do but I need my tooth fixed. Any advice? For the record I would have told her no if she had asked to fix my tooth because if I didn't notice it is not a big deal...

Yeah, but the tricky thing is getting them to admit that it was their fault. Good luck with that!

I just found out I have to get a tooth pulled by an oral surgeon. Anyone know how much this would cost?

Yesterday, my dentist told me that one of my back molars will have to be pulled by an oral surgeon. She gave me a couple of referrals, but before I make the calls, can anyone out there tell me an approximate cost? I do not yet know if it can be done with a local or general anesthetic, and I (sadly) do not have dental insurance.

Is Nadya Suleman AKA "OCTOMOM" is going to make a porno?

Vivid Entertainment, the world's largest peddler of adult flicks, has just fired off a letter to the serial mom asking her to consider becoming a contract "Vivid Girl" (like Jenna Jameson) and starring in a few X-rated flicks, TMZ.com reports. Who knew stretch marks - after a whopping 14 kids - were sexy? Abcessed tooth while Pregnant?

I've had a troublesome wisdom tooth for quite some time now. Eventually it broke off and is now decaying. Or should I say, all the way decayed. Gross I know :/ I didn't previously have dental insurance and it cost too much to treat. Now the tooth is pretty much all the way gone but my whole mouth is KILLING me. and it's very sensitive to touch. Also, there's a nasty taste I get in my mouth, and food gets stuck back there all the time. It's so disgusting. I am now 6 weeks pregnant, is there anything I can do?! Or did I wait to long? Are these, in fact, symptoms of an abcessed tooth? If so, what needs to be done since the tooth is already gone?!
--------------------
Call your dentsit ASAP, first treatment is antibiotics for the infection then the tooth will need to be removed. Only your dentist can assess exactly what needs to be done and when.

--------------------
Brushing, flossing daily and rinsing with mouthwash daily will all help. However, it's likely that you've developed calculus beneath the gum tissues around the teeth. This is plaque that has formed into hard deposits over time. The only way to remove it is to have a dental professional clean your teeth. Leaving it there will continue to irritate the gum tissues and the rough surface it creates will make it much easier for additional plaque to build up... eventually also developing into more calculus. You're in a caught in a cycle. The best solution is to get a professional cleaning done, then continue diligent home care to prevent a recurrance. Since you have no insurance, consider looking into local colleges that have dentistry or dental hygiene programs. They often need patients for their students which the services may be free or at a highly discounted rate. Good Luck!

I'm having pain in just 1 tooth....?

Ok so, this morning while taking a shower, one of my teeth on the bottom just started hurting really bad. Then right before I got out I spit some blood out of my mouth, I went and looked in the bathroom mirror and I couldn't see where the blood was coming from but it wasn't the tooth, but I spit blood about 3 more times. My tooth is really hurting right now. I haven't been to the Dentist in years, because we can't afford it (and I don't have dental insurance) and I'm 19. What could it be? A cavity? Thanks, Cory
--------------------
hey not fun, I agree with the other poster, you really need a dentist. It could be evidence of gum disease, an abcess in the tooth/gums, sign of cavity and it also could be evidence of something more sinister. You should def. get it checked out, You probably need a check up and possibly most likely need a course of antibiotics. Don't let it get any worse, please go and get it looked at ASAP.

How can I help my horrible toothache?

I have had the worst toothache since 8pm, and it's now 7 in the morning. It woke me up when I was napping, and has been hurting since. I've tried everything from brushing my teeth, to make sure nothing was caught in there, to using mouthwash, swishing salt water, taking advil, and using a numbing gel. Nothing is seeming to help. The pain will die down for a bit, but then it comes right back. I don't have enough money for a dentist appointment right now (no dental insurance), so I am kind of screwed. The pain is so excruciating that it's making me feel a little dizzy, and I was having a mini-panic attack. Any suggestions as to what I could do to at least sooth this thing until I get a hold of some cash for a dentist appointment?
--------------------
Well it sounds to me like you have done everything! But you can try one more thing and that is applying heat. Sometimes that can work wonders! Also if you don't have a heating pad you can use a washcloth, wet it, and put it in the microwave. Usually 20-25 secs will do it, but be careful to not burn yourself because they can get really hot really fast. Hoped this helped!

Whitening A Chipped Tooth That Was Filled?

When I was younger I chipped the corner of my front tooth and had it filled by my dentist, it was when I was younger and my teeth were yellower so he matched the color. Now that I want to whiten my teeth, and the filling part won't whiten, what can I do? Will my dentist be able to recolor the filling part to match my whiter teeth if I whiten it? How much would it cost typically? Would dental insurance cover any of it at all? Thanks for reading this long question and I hope an expert will reply. (The chipped part is pretty small, but is noticeable up close).
--------------------
its very easy the dentist will remove the old filling and replace it with a whiter composite to match your other teeth , because its small it wont cost alot probley around $130 im not to sure if dental insurance would cover it would depend on the fund your in but its a very easy and simple thing to get done.

Fillings in baby teeth?

I Need Opinions!! My son just turned 3 and we went to the dentist for his first check-up and found out the he needs a filling and they want to cap his front two teeth because there is a huge cavity between them. Along with a few other things, the bill will be $1,700 for teeth that will fall out in 2 years. We don't have dental insurance (you bet though I will be taking it out by the end of today). A lot of people I have spoke with have said I should just leave his teeth since they are baby teeth, but I am not sure I am comfortable with this. What do you think if it was your child?
--------------------
My six year old son had to have his top four teeth pulled out when he was two because of cavities. He had a partial to keep his teeth from shifting and we have had to have this put back in several times. Some children just get the short end of the stick when it comes to the teeth which is caused by hereditary genes. If you do not have the caps put on he will end up with a major cavity causing the tooth to need to be removed and a partial put in. In fact my now 3 year old had two silver caps on his top front teeth.

Want to get braces, but am not sure exactly what to do?

Hello I am 22 years old and have a slight overbite and a gap between my front two teeth. And I would really like to correct this feature about myself. Honestly this problems stops me from smiling or laughing in public. The problem is not bad at all, but I know its there and most my friends never notice and others were surprised when i mentioned I had a gap or space ect... So anyone know the cost ect.. I have dental insurance and would like to get this taken care of soon as possible. I live in the state of Maryland if that helps. All advice is great hope to get some thank you very much. You can help make me smile :)
--------------------
In America most dental insurance don't cover braces because it's considered cosmetic. I think the traditional metal braces are about $3500 all together and the clear ones are about $4500, so I'd check your bank account if I were you. It also comes with the retainer package. In my opinion, braces is totally worth the money. A bright smile goes a long way man =D.

I want to try a different lifestyle?

quit my job, gather all the money and credit cards that I have, and move to Las Vegas, where I will live in a hotel in a casino. Under God's watchful eye, I plan on quadrupling my money, and then quadrupling that money. Then perhaps I will get a bank account and let the money sit in there and collect interest. Cocaine is too expensive for my minimum wage job to pay for, and I don't want to have to use crack instead of cocaine, because I don't want to damage my veins. Also, I found out recently that I am pregnant with triplets, and I will need to support them, so I'll probably dilute some of my cocaine with cornstarch and sugar so I can sell it to a lot more people and make enough money. Since I won't have a job, I'll also probably file for income from the state to help me support them. My teeth are rotting, and I have horrible breath and sometimes I have a hard time breathing, and have occasional seizures, and I have no medical or dental insurance to cover myself, I'm going to need to be able to pay the medical bills somehow, so don't judge me. When I get enough money from gambling, I am going to buy a large house on some property in Nebraska, where I will have a farm and be able to openly use whenever I want without worrying about police being everywhere, or neighbors watching me. So, I guess what I need to know is, is there some way to achieve this new lifestyle? What are some secrets to gambling to ensure success? And how can I hide my cocaine addiction better from the security in the casino until then?

Home remedies for tooth/gum pain?

My back teeth on the left side have been throbbing for three days now. I'm six weeks pregnant, which rules out any major pain relievers, and my dental insurance doesn't kick in for another month. My doc gave me permission to use ibuprofin, but it only works for an hour or so. I've tried salt rinse, baking soda, ground clove, vanilla, heat, ice - nothing seems to work. I'm going on less than two hours of sleep a night. Does anyone have ANYTHING that might help? I've got a husband who works all day, a six year old with a thousand questions, and an eighteen month old - I have to get some relief. Any suggestions, no matter how strange, would be a great help. Thanks!
--------------------
whoa-first of all i would not use ibuprofin! it can cause bleeding while pregant! and i would also go see a dentist for sure-if you are in this much pain you probably have a tooth that is infected-get it checked soon! other than that- it seems that you have tried just about everything! you probably need antibiotics and a root canal treatment or extraction. good luck, and im sorry your in so much pain.

i need help finding a dentist?

My mother is a great mom and a wonderful Grandmother. It kills me her youngest daughter to see her in pain. She has bad teeth and some of them and have even broke off. She cant eat certain meats because of this, and unfortunately she cant afford any kind of dental insurance. I was wondering if someone could suggest some kind of service like medicaid or something to that nature,a free clinic, she needs a substantial amount of work done and my older sister and I can help with payments or something, I don't know and cant stand to see her in pain. PLEASE any suggestions will be Help. Thank you
--------------------
You didn't say where she's located but there are dental schools in almost every state. They do excellent treatment and the fees are reasonable, as the students do the work. This may be your best bet although the treatments take time to be accomplished. There are also clinics, usually privately funded with donations, that do treatments at reduced rates. Each large town usually will have something like this.

What is the cheapest way to restore tooth enamel?

I'm looking for a relatively low-cost way to restore tooth enamel. I know that all of those toothpastes and mouthwashes out there simply strengthen tooth enamel. So, what's the cheapest way, preferably safe and/or through a dentist, that I can restore tooth enamel? I only have minor wear on the ends of my eight front teeth. Generally, veneers, caps, crowns, etc. are thousands of dollars to get. If that's my only option, can anyone give me a price range, per tooth, for any of these options? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical and Dental insurance, so if you do too and have had similar procedures, I'd especially appreciate your advice. Thanks!
--------------------
tip: try to drink from a straw as much as possible. this will help to refrain from losing tooth enamel. find some time and go to your nearest store; try finding a toothpaste and a mouthwash or anything else you can find that says they help strengthen your tooth enamel (Crest has some). look for 'fluoride' in them. there are 3 types and all 3 are good. refrain from using whitening toothpastes; they don't work and weaken your enamel. hope this works! :]

I will be 25 tommorow and should've had them removed at 16 like most ppl, but they weren't impacted or anything just wanted 2 get rid of them.
--------------------
No, sounds like you did the right thing to me! Numbness is more bearable than pain...besides it will be over soon, had you not gotten them removed, they'd still be causing you pain and you'd have no insurance to cover it! Have a great Birthday :)!!!!!!!! p.s. I would stay away from the high dose meds, they can leave you too groggy and aren't recommended while breast feeding.....Tylenol is still you best bet! Doctor or dentist for this pain?

Here's the story... I went to the dentist last Wednesday for a filling. This time it was for the 2nd to the last molar, about 3 weeks ago I went for a filling for the last molar. Thursday morning when I woke up I felt this horrible pain on the gum-line of my last molar and it looked redder than the rest of my mouth. I took motrin for the pain and brushed my teeth after every meal & rinsed with Listerine and it works as a temporary fix but the discomfort comes back. I was hoping it would go away by doing all these things. Well, it's Monday now & the pain feels weird. It feels like the pain goes down my throat and my ear aches a little. When I touch that part of the gum with my tongue it burns. My question is, should I go to the dentist or can I go to my doctor? I don't have any dental insurance.
--------------------
You will need to go back to the dentist. You should call them and explain what is going on. They may agree to look at it for free since they did the work on it. I had problem with a filling I got a while back and my dentist agreed to see me and fix the problem at no charge.

Would you be upset with ex if....?

My ex is very much a control freak. I have taken my children (boy 8 , girl 12) to my dentist the past 3 years and have not requested for her to pay her portion (52%) of the bill. I took them the other day, and have to take them back to have cavaties filled. My son may require seeing an orthodontist in the future. I carry their dental insurance. My ex is upset with me because I took them without her knowledge. She told my son that it was "her job" to take them to all appointments. My question is: Would you be upset if your ex took the kids to the dentist and did not ask you to pay your portion?..
--------------------
You said it right Jeff, it's just a control thing with her and she may be mad still about the divorce or by who you're dating now etc..I think it's great you take them to the dentist and spring for the bill. Keep up the good work my man. I'm a child support paying dad too and I got ripped off in court but who cares. I can look my kids in the eyes and know I've been there for them. Take care...

Root canal question...?

I saw a dentist last week and I was told I need a root canal on my top left front tooth. I had my front teeth knocked out when I was 16 and I've had an abscess above the top left front tooth ever since! It never caused me any problems, so I didn't think anything of it and never had it looked at. My husband just got dental insurance, so I decided to go in and have it looked at. The dentist said I needed a root canal and that it would have been draining this whole time, but in the 8 YEARS that I've had this, I've never once seen it drain. I think I would have noticed this. It only hurts when it's pushed on and the tooth can be sensitive at times. Also, I'm pregnant, so I would obviously love to avoid having a root canal if at all possible. Besides, I'm a wuss when it comes to pain. ;) What do you think? Help! Thank you.
--------------------
It could have drained when eating, drinking, sleeping, pretty much whenever and it's possible that you wouldn't notice. It does sound like you need a root canal if there is an abscess. It's not good to be pregnant with an abscess either. Having infection in you is bad for the baby so you really should have it done to get it cleared up.

What are your daily job duties and responsibilities? What is your favorite part of the job? Least favorite? Anything you would change? 2. Did you choose this job? If so, what influenced this decision? Does anyone else in your family do this work? 3. Did you at any point consider a different career path? If so why? Do you see yourself doing this work until you retire? 4. What were hardships, difficulties you had to face getting the job you have now? Such as school, money, etc. (If there are any) 5. Did your family support your decision to do this work? 6. Is the job what you expected it to be? Is it better than you imagined, or not what you hoped for? Tell me why? 7. My favorite part of my job is when I get to really talk to the kids, especially one on one after school/ at recess, etc. Very rarely do I actually get to know them because the school day is so busy. My least favorite part of my job is the grading and report cards, etc. We don't get paid for all of this extra after school stuff. 2. I did choose this job. I told my mom I wanted to be a teacher when I was in the first grade. I really admired and looked up to my teachers and wanted to be one. No one else in my family does this job. 3. I have considered other career paths and may still try them out one day. I believe teaching is a very stressful job with very long hours. Sometimes I just want a job that I can leave at work. 4.

--------------------
I would encourage you to visit this website: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online about 3 years ago now for all my dental work and they have saved me thousands throughout the years. From Extractions, xray, exams, cleanings...etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use the same day. Good Luck.

Hoped this helped!

another wisdom tooth possible?!?

i had a wisdom tooth pulled last august. for about a week now, i noticed that part of my gum really sensitive and recently becoming painful and swollen. i put my finger in the back of my mouth and i felt the top part of a tooth poke through. now, a week after i noticed that, u can actually see a tooth there, i had my mom and husband look, and they can see the tooth half way out of my gum. i thought once they get pulled its done...i didnt think it was possible to get another one, is it? i have new dental insurance, so its going to be at least 2 months before a dentist can see me, anything i can do for the pain of the tooth? orajel helps a little, but not long enough
--------------------
Prior to removing the wisdom teeth, your dentist/oral surgeon would have taken dental x-rays to ensure they removed the teeth successfully. It's highly unlikely that they left a tooth behind. What it sounds like is a sequestrum - a remaining fragment of bone that was dislodged when the teeth were extracted which is now working it's way out of your mouth. I'd call the office just to let your Dr. know what's going on - he'd definitely have some recommendations as to how to handle the discomfort.

Are under bites so bad?

I'm 16 and have had an under bite for as long as i can remember. i went to the dentist for the first time ever about 3 months ago (We weren't able to get dental insurance until then) and after taking an X ray he automatically starts talking about how I have to get jaw surgery. But is this really necessary? Nothing in life is hindered by my under bite, so whats the point in spending all that money on a surgery that seems pointless? it seems like he just wants to suck more and more money out of my parents!
--------------------
Let's put it this way....no one has ever died because their teeth and jaws didn't line up perfectly. However, in today's world, people strive towards perfection a lot. Who knows, perhaps you are the next Heidi Montag or Spencer Pratt (God help you and us!). So, if your teeth and jaws don't line up perfectly, you can have surgery to line them up. Teeth are meant to interdigitate in a certain way. If they don't you can develop things like Temperomandibular joint problems or abnormal tooth wear. Some people would like to prevent such problems down the road if they could. So it really isn't a matter of your dentist trying to "suck more and more money out of my parents!". It is more a matter of, jaw surgery is possible, and it is his or her job as your dentist to present you with your treament options.

gap between teeth, looks prominent after scaling.also overbite problem.?

My cousin has her tartars removed for the first time in her life, it is clean now. but the front 2 teeth on the lower jaw quite not straight and aligned parallel to each other , causing a big gap in between. the gap became so prominent after scaling, she feels very shy and depressed.her denist said that he would just lace another tooth in between!! I guess he was talking about artifical removable tooth. she is just in her mid twenties, is it really a good idea? what kinna orthodontic treatment she needs to fill the gap for years or to implant a tooth.she is on budget now and can't afford any expensive procedure.please suggest some good methods for her with cost.she is in India, no dental insurance. Secondly what kinna procedures are required to fix gaps between all the frontal teeth and also reducing overbite to make both the jaws proportionate.
--------------------
The overbite can only be corrected with braces. However, the main problem is the huge gap, which had been there all along. You just couldn't see it because it was covered by the tartar. Unfortunately, she has a lot of bone loss already, which is irreversible. It is also harmful to go for the braces with existing gum disease. So, the best thing will be to treat the gum condition first and then decide the course of action.

(my) left canine on the top is still a baby...?

i am sixteen years old. i have most of my very back teeth, too, no wisdom teeth, and my top left canine has never came out. it looks SO small in comparison. no dental insurance, otherwise i'd go to the dentist to see wtf was going on up there, but i was just wondering if there might be anything wrong with it? like is there a possibilty that there just... is not an adult tooth to push it out, so its been chillin out up there for the past decade and a half? i think that might be the case with a few of my molars, too. they had to extract the two back molars last year because of cavities. any advice?
--------------------
Oh I totally know what you are talking about. My lateral incisor (tooth one over from the cannine) is like that. I was unlucky enough to get really crappy teeth genes and so I never had an adult tooth to push out the baby tooth. Also, the baby tooth's root resorbed, so it was just hanging by a thread by the time I got it out. My pedodontist knew about the problem from the time I got my first panorex, because it was obvious that there was no adult tooth bud. So I was like 4 or 5 and my parents allready knew to start saving for my implants (ha, the've gone down in cost so much that you don't really need to save like you did :) So yeah, that is totally possible. The most common tooth to be missing congenitally is both lateral incisors, and all the anterior teeth are pretty commonly missing too. I'm getting an implant for my tooth. I've just had a bone graft because I didn't really use my baby tooth and the bone under it resorbed, and after that settles I will get the implant! I reccomend talking to your dentist ASAP, because your bone can resorb and then you will have to go through another surgery and cost before you are able to get implated. Or, you can go with a bridge. There are two types, one is not as invasive, but the traditional bridge makes the two teeth enxt to the missing one have to be cut down dramatically and crowned. I think it actually costs about the same to get a bridge or a implant (simple case, no grafting or anything). Good luck!

My teeth are horrible....?

Ok I am 16 and I basically have horrible teeth. I haven't been to the dentist in over a year because I guess its not on the top of my family's priority list. Yeah I also really really need braces but I have only been to the orthodontist once and that was 3 years ago. I also have a horrible time with brushing my teeth too, I am lucky if I brush them once a day but I have gone without brushing them for 2+ days before. This is beacuse brushing my teeth makes me cough and gag really bad... Ugh I feel horrible and I know that I what I am doing is terrible. Any suggestions how I can talk my parents into taking me to the dentist (we have dental insurance) or how I can talk them into how important braces are or with brushing my teeth in general?? I have already talked to my parents and I have even printed them off articles but they are just like yeah ok eventaually we will get to it...
--------------------
owch they look painful, i had a tooth sticking up in the middle of my mouth and i thought that was bad before they removed it. My advice would be to talk to them again, just tell them how much it means to you, and mention that once you have been to the dentist and orthodontist and they have signed the papers they don't have to come with you any more (once you get the appointment for the braces and they have signed everything there's nothing that they need to do) Tell them that it ill take about a hour of their time and then you will be happy. (i didn't go to the orthodontist for about 6 years as first time i went they told me i couldn't be treated as i had too many baby teeth left) just keep on at them until they give in and tell them that it is impossible to brush them as they are (i know how you feel cause i found it hard to brush before i got my braces) With the coughing and gagging is it because you have to push the tooth brush in too far (if so i can't help that only a dentist can) or is it because the toothpaste if horrible and gets down your throat (if that's the case just ask your parents if you can try a different brand, even if it is just for you to use)

I had filling in my left molar and the filling came out a while ago. At first the pain was unimaginable for ab?

out a week. I just took the pain the best I could and took Tylenol because I didn't have dental insurance nor knew what to do. The tooth started to cause bad breath and eventually started breaking off. Well now the tooth has broken off completely but the roots are still in. Some of the tooth is visible but not enough to grab for pulling. There has been no pain in the tooth for a while, probably the reason for me letting it go for so long. I have a dentist appointment at a free clinic now, is it worth going? What will the dentists do? And I can still smell the smell from the tooth, will it go away?
--------------------
It no longer hurts because you have killed the root. I would go to the denatl appointment as you will need the root removing as that could get infected and you really dont want that. You could end up with an abscess. Good luck :)

Tooth trauma question?

This weekend, our very large dog (80+ pound German Shepherd mix) got really excited chasing our daughter, and jumped up on her back, knocking her down face first onto the kitchen floor. She definitely hit her mouth, and we are concerned that one of her teeth may have been damaged - has anyone else had experience with damaged teeth in an infant/toddler? It bled initially, and we couldn't tell whether the blood was coming from around the tooth or from her lip (her lip was definitely bleeding, but couldn't tell if the tooth was, too). It looks fine now, and she doesn't seem to be experiencing any discomfort - for anyone who has had experiences, was the child in pain afterward? What should I be looking for? We don't have dental insurance on her yet (honestly didn't think we'd need it until she was a bit older!), so I'm just asking for any input from people who have had similar problems, and anyone who cares to give some advice. Thanks! Also, please note: This question is not intended to start a debate as to what we should do to the dog - I am just looking for information on teeth!

Hi! My nephew Did this over the summer although when he fell it was on the back concrete patio and it actually chipped his tooth in half. We we concerned about the same thing tooth trauma. When his mother took him to the dentist all they said to look for was for the tooth to start turning black or an akward color ar swelling around the tooth and to bring him back because we was a bit youngto hold down. Needless to say the tooth didn't turn black and they took him for a follow up not to long ago and the tooth is fine. Since there is no initial damage to the tooth itself I would say that she is fine. BUt if it makes you feel better you can always take her to the dentist.... Good luck i hope i help you a little

Don't let it get any worse, please go and get it looked at ASAP.

gap between teeth, looks prominent after scaling.also overbite problem.?

Big decision to make. Any advice?

I am almost 18. I have been living in Germany with my family since last August. As soon as I turn 18 I can either move home to America (without my family) in March, or stay here with my family until next December. If I move back I will be flying home alone, living with my older sister, working, and attending a local community college If I stay here I have 9 extra months to be a kid with very little real responsibility. I'll be on my parent's health and dental insurance. I can save up more money. I can travel more. I could take some basic college courses here on post (military post). I could better prepare for the transition into adulthood. And, I'd be flying home with my family. Really, it makes so much sense to stay in Germany for 15 months. I'd be very happy doing so. The thing making this decision so hard is my desire to be where my other loved ones are. Sister, nephew, boyfriend, friends, etc. Also, I already told people I would be home in March. It's been my plan for a long time. I don't feel like bumming anyone out by telling them I'm not coming back for much longer than expected. And I really don't know how much longer I can be away from them. I'm not asking anyone to decide this for me. Just wanting some words of wisdom. Some words of advice. Just anything that might aid me in choosing the right path.
--------------------
Hello there!(: what I would do is stay in germany because even thought you miss your loved ones and they miss you too they will understand this is what's best for you. Hope it helped!

Here are my criteria: What branch is for me? ..and other misc. questions about the military?

I am a freshman in college but I want to get into the military for 2 years and be done. ( I might do 4 if I really like it) These are my reason: To serve my country GI Bill Able to get college credits and take classes as you serve Health, Dental Insurance for life Military Discount Job Preference after Duty TRAVEL!!! I do NOT want to kill anyone, or be responsible for a death, as it is super against my religion. Oh and I'm not trying to die either. So, I plan on getting a good score on the ASVAB, and working in the IT field. I don't want to be in infantry. Here are my questions: 1- Which branch will let me travel and see new cultures the most? 2- If I just serve for only 2 years, will I get the above benefits? 3- How long do you have to be in the military before considered a veteran? 4- Is it true that I may be called up for duty even when I have completed my 2 years? If so, when will I truly be done? 5- Which branch is least discriminatory towards Muslims? 6- What is life like for Muslims like me in the Armed Forces, and will I be able to perform my religious duties (pray 5X/day, etc)? 7- Is it true that you get 1 free cosmetic surgery ( such as lasik, etc.) ? I don't really care about promotions, rank, or getting into a military career. Feel free to correct any assumptions that I have made above.I tried to do as much research as I could before I got bored. I'm leaning towards Airforce or Navy, but everything is still in the air. If you could tell me your experiences with one of them, I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot for any input you can give me.
--------------------
I honestly think you may not like any service based on what you have said, but let's take the questions on one at a time. 1. The Navy tends to travel the most, but shore leave is short. The Army has the most bases worldwide offering a longer time to experience other cultures. 2. You enlist for 8 years, period. All enlistments are for 8 years, they can be split between active duty, reserves, and IRR (individual ready reserve, means you are still under contract and can be called back in, but you don't do drill like in the reserve). Most branches are only doing a minimum active duty of 3 years for first time enlistments, but different MOSs (army talk for jobs) have certain minimum enlistment times based on training time and other factors. As for the benefits, you will get them while you are active duty, a more restricted form if reservist and none while IRR. 3. Normally, you need to finish your first enlistment contract to be a vet, but that can change if you are discharged for medical or other reasons early. It sounds like what you want to know about is VA benefits. Those are based on your type of discharge first off. Some benefits are available to most people (VA home loan program for one), but the majority of them are limited to those with a disability rating of 20% or higher and military retirees. 4. As I said above, you enlist for 8 years and can be called up at any point during them. 5 & 6. All branches are open to all religions; I can only speak for my experiences in the Army though. There will always be bigots, no matter where you go. Too many people have no understanding of beliefs outside their own and don't want to learn. I know several Muslims that have served, and as long as you can understand that your mission and job comes first, most units are willing to work with you on prayer times. Will you miss prayer times, yes, and often, but I have been told the Koran allows this by other Muslims before. Otherwise, you are free to practice your beliefs as you choose, and the chaplains can help you make any arrangements. 7. No, you don't automaticaly get free cosmetic surgery. Some military hospitals offer some types. I know the hospital where I am at (Fort Bliss, TX) is now offering screenings for Lasik surgery for active duty only. Just a bit more here, so bear with me please. Your chances of being killed in the military sit around .02%, which is far less than the chances of being killed in a car wreck or plane crash. Most soldiers don't have to kill, you will be trained to but that doesn't mean you will. In fact, the majority of soldiers never fire their weapons outside of target practice. Of course you will need to avoid jobs like infantry and Cav to do that, they have a greater chance of facing combat than most. I was able to take a lot of college while I was active, finished 4 degrees actually. It will often depend on you though, how hard you are willing to work, how much free time you are willing to give up (got mine by taking classes at night, on weekends, and online but still had plenty of free time to have fun). The simple fact is you will have to make some sacrifices if you want to reap the benefits the military offers. You need to decide if those sacrifices are worth it to you as an individual, but for me, I wouldn't trade my time in the Army for anything.

Bridge vs Implant?

One of my tooth got cracked! Unfortunately, it has to go. My dentist suggested me to have a bridge; but my husband's dentist recommended an implant to my husband. (He also had a problem with his teeth.) Even though I could pay for an implant, it is a huge bill so I don't want to pay. (of course) But I can use an implant screw forever, right? On the contrary, I don't know how long a bridge lasts. And I have to sacrifice 2 of my tooth to make a bridge. (1 has a filling, another is a healthy teeth) My dental insurance covers some for a bridge, but it is still expensive... I would like to hear your experience for both a bridge and an implant. Problem(s), No Problem(s), some Problem(s)...Please tell me your story! Thank you for your help.
--------------------
Bridges can last up to 10-15 years if done well, and placed on good, strong teeth. They are less expensive and don't involve surgery. Implants involve drilling into the bone and putting in a little screw. This site should then be left to heal for 3 months before making a prosthetic tooth to go into that implant. There isn't as much long-term work to prove the longevity of implants as they are a new thing compared to bridges. The only way to decide is to talk over both options with your dentist and make sure you understand the pros and cons before you decide for sure

Is My Husband Crazy or What?

My husband got fired from his job 'cause he fall drug test. Anyhow, we live on one income which is not much 75K yr for that last 10mo. He doesn't even want find a job he says he is not going to take a job unless is something he wants. However, he has a child from previous marriage who lives in another State and I talk to his ex telling her that I can't offer to pay the child support anymore all I can do is to keep the child on my health and dental insurance and till her dad gets a job we won't be paying child support so I stopped the automatic payment starting the first of this mo. I also told her that we can't have his daughter this summer like we mostly do 'cause I can't offer to hire a full time baby sitter 'cause my husband said won't watch her while I'm at work. Now my husband is so mad saying that we could offer to do all that and I'm doing this 'cause she is not my child which is not true. What should I do I don't want look like the bad guy when I'm not.
--------------------
You're not the bad guy! It's not your responsibility to pay his child support for him - to be honest, I think you're being generous in continuing to pay for the insurance. He needs to man up and face his responsibilities, even if it means taking a job he doesn't want. Stick to your guns - if you give in on this, he'll walk all over you.

Is it a Spider bite?

On Tuesday, I was running a mile on a track [pe class] and it was foggy (really cold!). I noticed that my left hand hurt and I found my skin ripped a bit and I thought it was just a scratch, no big deal. When I got home to take a shower, it hurt to put water on it, and I washed it with soap. Until it started turning red and it looked more like a spider bite. It's a little smaller than 1/4 of an inch. It hurts when I touch it. And it's very near one of my veins, it's like right beside it. Then I was watching a movie on Friday night. And my sister spotted a spider near me, I was sitting on the carpet. The spider wasn't that big, it was a littler smaller than 1/2 inch. It was like a light tan color. My sister took it outside. Should I just leave it for it to go away on its own? I don't think my parents want take me to the doctor because we don't have medical or dental insurance. I don't think it hurts that much anymore when I touch it. The holes are hard red. I live in California.
--------------------
If the wound gets significantly larger, or gets really hot or swollen, or gets red streaks around it, you HAVE TO get medical care. Otherwise (IMHO), the doctor probably won't know for sure what it is either, and will tell you that it will go way on its own. P.S. It is a tragedy that kids in this country can't get medical care. And I am NOT a liberal. I don't think everyone deserves free medical care, but we have to take care of our kids!

what can i expect dentist/cavities./10 points?

I HAVE NO DENTAL INSURANCE HAVENT BEEN TO THE DENTIST SINCE I WAS 7 OR 8. Well I remember the last time i went to the dentist was before i came to american was about age 7 or 8. I'm currently 17 and I havent been to the dentist ever since. I'm kind of imbarrased all my teeth are straight in the front but if you look mostly in the back there are cavities with the plague thing not that much.. I have 7 cavities... 1 which just started its a tiny no color or nothing just a small tiny hole.. 6 other cavities which i can play in with my tongue (lol) not most of them i got as cavities but all of them have the blue decay thing except the 7th one which started. on the left side of my mouth i have 4 cavities 3 of them have a good not quite so big hole but i can fit my tounge in a little and feel the meat. and the other one just has the plague. on the right side of my mouth i have 3 2 which are very open like the rest and 1 tiny one with no plague on it. There are so many bills in my family right now from all the buying and stuff and its just hard to ask my dad to get these filled...as it might get him mad.. Can who ever is reading this tell me what to expect if i go to the dentist. like how much approx will this all cost to fix? most of the openings are on the top and a couple/few have the decay on the side..its hard to smile sometimes since ppl might recognize... but my teeth are white its just the cavities. I dont have a job going to school still...and im planning to get these filled before next school year. 10 points read here: but how much do you think it will cost to get all this actually done 6 not that big openings and 1 small tiny opening to get filled/cleaned with the compost filling that actually looks like you had nothing done to your teeth since i dont like the silver fillings. How much and what will they do will the dentist be mad?
--------------------
Bottom line is it doesnt matter what it costs you need to get them done or they will just get bigger, which can lead to an infection. then instead of fillings you need root canals and crowns(more money). Noone can tell you exactly but your denstist. every area has different prices. my area a small filling can be about $150 a tooth to a larger one closer to 300. Dentist aren't mad for doing white fillings, but fyi they cost more! they should be ble to work out a payment plan or capital one has a credit card specifically for dental work. here's their application form online: https://secure.capitalonefinance.com/form.asp?plan=DFP&currPage=0&refer=www%2Egoogle%2Ecom%7Ccapital%2Bone%252C%2Bdental

How much do teeth implants cost? And does anyone have experience with them?

So for awhile now the look of my teeth have been really bothering me. They are not straight at all and some are pointy, just not straight at all! I am so insecure about my teeth I never even smile with my mouth open or when I laugh I feel the need to cover my mouth. So I am looking into teeth implants ( at least I think that's what there called). How much are they? With health/dental insurance and all would it be cheaper? Have you ever had them? I hate my teeth! and I would love some feedback. BTW I am 19 years old.

I had Dental Implants in Cancun, only $1,600 each for the post and crown. Saved a lot! and changed my life. I eat better and chew better. Good luck!

Is it ok to ask for a Mercury poisoning test?

I broke a tooth with a silver filling about a year and a half ago. It didnt hurt and I dont have dental insurance so I didnt go to the dentist. 2008 was the worst year of my life as far as panic attacks, anxiety, depression, death of a friend, extreme fatigue (that the doctor cannot help me with it seems) My memory is getting really bad, and my ability to function normally is like dissappearing. I get tingling sensations. My eyelid twitches. my back feels kinda like its tingly numb. I leave out letters and words when I write sometimes. Im having hard time comprehending things. And learning new stuff or problem solving is like so hard I cant do it. Im trying so many things to help w/ all of this diet, exercise, thinking positively, going to therapy and talking about crap I never had to talk about before to see if that is the problem. Some things are a little better but this extreme fatigue and like my cognitive abilities are getting worse. I went to the dentist he said I have mercury amalgam fillings and the broken one is leaking. Well mercury is very toxic. The more I read about it I cant believe they put it in peoples mouths. But there are still people who say its safe. I don't know what to believe. I want to have my blood or urine tested for mercury levels just for my peace of mind. I get extremely tired after eating inspite of trying very hard to keep my blood sugar within safe levels. Could it be that eating aggravates the fillings and Im sensative to mercury? Could it be intensifying my mood swings and making my memory go bad? I have this constant metal taste in my mouth but mercury is odorless and tasteless I hear. If I tell this to a doctor will they just laugh at me or will they give me a mercury test? Im 29 years old and I feel like Im losing my mind and going to have dementia and extreme exhaustion where I wont be able to leave my bed if I dont get to the bottom of this.
--------------------
Just ask him to do it. He should. I had mine test me for lead. You are the one paying him. He shouldn't have aproblem with it. Don't be afraid to ask him. I've thought about doing the same. But most of my dental work has come apart and gone.

Back tooth broke off when eating.?

For a few years my top left, back tooth has hurt when i eat sweets. It would only hurt while eating candy and never bother me at any other time. Yesterday morning i was eating breakfast and about 1/4 of my tooth chipped off. Since it chipped off i can now see there is a light brown spot on the top around my gum line. I dont know what the best options would be for getting it fixed. I dont have dental insurance and i was wondering if someone could give me some ideas on how much certain procedures for the tooth would cost. Thanks :-)

Can I delay my root canal temporarily?

I have major pain and swelling on my pre-molars (both) and went to the dentist today, just to find an periapical abscess at the bottom of the root. She suggested a root canal to save them. Currently, I am a student and cant scrape out $800/tooth for a root canal, and unfortunately dont have dental insurance too. Is it possible to just clean the abscess, stabilize the pressure, take the antibiotics and get a temporary filling for a few months? So, I can go back to my country and get the whole she-bang done there without spending too much now? thanks!

Wisdom tooth problems?

I only have 2 of my wisdom teeth, top right and bottom left. it feels like one is under the gums on the bottom right and it seems like its been this way for a few years. other than that I have 2 problems I don't know what to do about. my top right one frequently hurts and I think its too close to my cheek because I constantly have a sore there and I think it has made a really big scar around the sore area. My bottom left one seems deformed and is still partially covered by gums and has been in this state unchanged for 3+ years. It doesn't hurt but it is rather uncomfortable. both teeth are very hard to brush properly because they are against the back of my jaws where the jaws meet. Should I have them removed or is there something I or the dentist can do about them. If I have the removed about how much will that cost per tooth without dental insurance coverage? If the other teeth come in will I need them removed too? And last of all, exactly what all does tooth removal entail?

The wisdom teeth need to be removed. hgo ot the dentist.

Should I screw over my boss?

Background info: he has bounced our paychecks and is now paying me in money orders. I was hired and told i would recieve med and dental insurance, yet I can never utilize it because the ins company says he never pays.I suspect the money he is taking out of my pay money orders.. err i mean checks is not actually going to my taxes ss etc. I also feel sexually harassed. I have been promised for a year a different position yet there is always an excuse. now one catch is that he loaned me $2000 when i needed it the most (car problems) however we are square on that and most. This is also a job in which i have to wear a bikini to work so not something i will ever put on my resume or use as a reference. Now my question is, should i give him 2 weeks notice leaving him with the satisfaction to tell me not to come back or should i drop off my key after work and not say a word and never come back or answer his calls? (thats what id like to do)
--------------------
Normally, I'd say it's good karma to do the right thing and act professional according to your own standards, not based on the actions of others. However, if you feel you have good reason to believe he's going to tell you to not come back after quitting or hassle you with your final paycheck, then it's perfectly justified to quit with zero notice.

my dentist has literally screwed my tooth up.. now what?

1 of my molars required a rootcanal and a cap. i got the root canal done and they put in a temp filling. then after that they NEVER gave me the cap and i went back multiple times. then my tooth finally split and they just kept giving me temp fillings and temp fillings. now im at the point where the filling is still in my my tooth is crumbling a part. it split off on 1 side and now i feel my tooth (half of it) shaking around. WHAT THE HELL DO I DO. i feel like i should just get this thing pulled out instead of these assholes jerking my money. and btw i have dental insurance. and money isnt a problem. and i had another cap done. on the opposite side of my mouth successfully.
--------------------
Hello..Ok..Assuming the information you have provided is totally accurate here is what you do. You file a formal complaint with the your "State Dental Board"... they should place you in contact with a neutral dentist who is part of what they call the "Peer Review Board"...If the peer review dentist agrees with your accusations the Dental Board will and can take a number of actions . One would be to have the tooth in questions properly dealt with by another dentist and the offending dentist will have to pay the cost. The Board may also call him in for a disciplinary hearing that could result in his license being pulled for a period of time and he could also be required to take continuing education courses and retested ...You would also have the option of filing a mal practice suit. Good luck and I wish you well. The Denture Pro.

What procedure do I need to go through to have several teeth "replaced"?

It's an embarrassing problem - but I have several teeth (molars) that are broken and need to be replaced. Two are basically gone, and two are like half gone. I also need two wisdom teeth removed. I have dental insurance, but I think it only covers up to $500 per year. I don't really have a lot of money to pay up front for a major procedure, but could afford monthly payments of some nature. Is this usually an option? Whatever procedure I have done, I want it to be subtle and kinda secret, as it is kind of embarrassing. My front teeth are fine, so it's not like I need dentures... Can anyone tell me what I need to go through, what it'll cost me, and how much time off from work I will need to get this fixed?
--------------------
I will try my best to address all your concerns. I would sit down with the finance person in your dental office and prioritize what has to be done right away and which tooth can wait a few months. Once that is clear..you can pick to do 2 teeth/year. Unfortunately, your ins doesn't cover much. An average crown can cause upwards of $800-1500/tooth. Depending on your treatment, a crown typically req'd 2 visits. Most dental procedure does not req'd time off from work. i rec for you to plan your extractions around long weekends so you have some time to rest afterwards.
