If I'm covered by my own insurance can my spouse add me to hers for additional (secondary) coverage?

I already have coverage. I recently got married and my spouses company allows me to go on her plan, which covers stuff mine doesn't (dental for example). Is it fine to go on her plan too? I've read stuff sounding like it's ok, and one is primary (my own) and the other is secondary. Primary pays first, then secondary. Is this correct? Do I need to contact my own insurance company when getting covered by this second plan, or is that automatic?
--------------------
yes you can be covered by two insurance companies hers would be a secondary coverage and would pick up where yours didn't. You will need to contact your coverage and let them know you are now under a secondary plan as well as advise your spouses plan that you have your own primary coverage. When you go for medical services make sure you advise them which coverage is primary and which is secondary. It sounds complicated but it's not so bad and in the long run it will help you out with medical expenses.

What are some of the best Orthodontic insurance coverage I can get?

My work does not cover dental in any sort. I know where I can get regular dental coverage thats no problem I dont need help with that. I need help for *****Orthodontic insurance coverage*****
--------------------
I haven't seen any plans that will pay out more than they cost. The best plan, through an employer, usually only pays HALF the cost, up to $1500 or some such, so you STILL end up paying at least half out of pocket. The private plans that have orthodontic coverage, are going to limit it to $500 or so, and have a one year wait before you can get braces.

How do you get some free or very low cost dental help?

A friend of mine, lost his teeth, about8 years ago, in a accident. He is in constant pain, and covers his mouth when talking to others of imbarrasement, he is only 38 years old, but dosen't know how to go about getting any dental help. It affects his life all the time. Can you please give me some information that I can share with him, so he can get his life back. He has no insurance. please help.
--------------------
Contact your local or state dental association and and see if there are any dentists who provide free or reduced cost care for low-income, disabled or senior patients. Call your local health department and ask about health centers that provide dental care for free or on a sliding scale. Your local United Way may also be aware of such a clinic. In some areas, you can reach them now by dialing 2-1-1 for "non-emergency information." Go to a dental school, if there is one near you, for reduced costs. Check http://www.toothwoman.net to see if low-cost or free dental services are available near you. Check http://bphc.hrsa.gov and choose "Find a Health Center" to see if there is a low-cost clinic near you. Check http://www.nfdh.org/DDS.html to see if your state has a "Donated Dental Services" program. D.D.S. is designed to locate dentists who will give free care to patients who are financially compromised due to medical problems. This is a process that will take a couple of months to get your information and then arrange for someone to see you. Not all states have D.D.S. programs.

What are the different forms of insurance a person should have?

Here's my list: 1. Health 2. Dental 3. Vision 4. Home 5. Life 6. Auto 7. Disability 8. malpractice p.s. how many people really have all these with adequate coverage and wat is credit insurance?????
--------------------
My husband and I have 1-7. We get health, dental, vision, and disability through his work and the rest we cover on our own. You can also get renter's insurance, flood insurance is also additional to your home owner's I believe. Credit insurance... if you are referring to the insurance you can pay monthly to protect your credit cards, it is a scam. There were several articles published and I think one by the federal government, stating this. I'd look it up online, and get some more informatin.

Should I get medical for my kids if we can get insurance through their dad's work?

Okay, so right now my daughter has ieph through healthy families, which covers everything. My fiance can now get blue shield through his work, but dental only covers 50%, and it's $75 a month per person. I am also 9 months pregnant with our next child, and I do not know if I should get medical or healthy families for him, or get the insurance through my fiance's work. Help? What would be the best choice?
--------------------
If you are happy with the services that you are getting from Healthy Families/IEPH, I don't think I would change. $75 per month for a child between 1-19 is pretty expensive. Insurance for children under 1 is often much more expensive because of the problems that arise at that age. Also, check to confirm that it is $75 per child and not $75 for ALL children. Most company plans are one price for ALL children, but some plans do a a per child fee. If it is $75 for ALL children, you can decide based on your income level if IEPH continues to be a good choice or you should move to the company sponsored plan. You may only be able to move to the company plan when the baby is born or during open enrollment. FYI = to all the people complaining about her being on medi-cal. She is NOT some deadbeat living off the system!!! Healthy Families is a program for MODERATE income families.

If you are seriously injured in an accident, will the insurance company still cover you after the settlement?

I was seriously injured in an accident years ago and settled with the help of lawyers. However, my dental work (due to the accident) needs to be replaced now due to normal wear and tear. (Basically bridge work that only lasts so long). Is the insurance company still required to pay for this?
--------------------
Nope..when you "settle" you'll have to sign a release for all future medical, psych problems, etc.

I need dental implants but don't have the money. Affordable dental implants...where can I get them?

I need 7 dental implants. My mouth is in bad shape. 6 implants are going to cost me $40,000 dollars. I don't have that kind of money. Any suggestions? Please help, I am desperate. I have no dental insurance, medical insurance.:-(
--------------------
you may need to settle for dentures (partials). if your credits good almost all dentists have Care Credit, which basically allows you to pay on your dental bills. do they want it all up front or immediately after? if not then maybe you can just pay alittle out of each pay check on them. they can't sue you as long as you do try and pay alittle. you should also look into dental insurance, although dental implants aren't generally covered because their usually more for cosmetic reasons. go to a dental school, depending on the state you live in, some states only have 1, while bigger states have several. but alot of dental schools will reduce the cost on anything they do to you just for going to them, mainly because your contributing your dental health for their students education.

why does insurance only cover catastrophic events?

I have a 2500 deductable before my insurance pays 80/20 in network shouldn't you have carte blanche style medical care $0 deductibles, paid prescriptions, dental, vision care etc you get sick you go to the doctor period thats what insurance is for right?
--------------------
i agree. that was the way it was 20 years ago. you went to the doctor for check-ups, flu etc, paid your copay and they billed the insurance who then paid the doctor. if you had an emergency, went to the ER, and if the insurance believed it was an emergency, they would sometimes waive your deductible. now everyone has high deductibles and co pays. so unless you get really sick, have surgery etc, you are on the hook for all of your medical bills. the only advantage of the insurance is the discount rate that you have to pay vs the full billed price. now you are stuck going to in-network doctors that may not be your preferred choice. or go to a hospital that is supposed to be in-network and find out that some labs or doctors are out-of network so you get stuck with the addtl cost that they charge. also the cost of RX is unbelievable. gone are the days of $5 or $10 copay. most of the new drugs, you get on the hook for up to 50% of the cost or a maximum they will cover. just like in medicare, many people found that after 4 or 5 months in the donut hole and owe 100% for their drugs, so they either eliminate them, take sporadically to be able to afford them. i had surgery a year ago. i also had $2,500 deductible and 80/20. i ended up owing almost $4K out of pocket and all of it was in-network. i now have a $5K and 70/30 co-pay and hope i wont need it since i am still paying off the surgery.

Dental costs, dental worries, Anne Arundel, Maryland.?

I live in Anne Arundel county in Maryland, and I'm having difficulty finding a dentist. I'm horribly afraid of the dentist. I have no dental insurance, and lots of problems with my teeth. Is there anyone out there that knows of dental practices that have decent prices and are good with intensely nervous patients?
--------------------
I didn't go to the dentist for almost 16 years because I knew I had cavities and I'm terribly afraid of needles. I began to think of it this way.... Either I can go to the dentist and have my problems fixed or I can, eventually, deal with the embarrassment and pain of having broken and rotting teeth. It sounds bad, but it would happen if you just let it go. I was soooo nervous, but the dentist I chose was so nice and understanding. I would ask your friends and family who they go to and how well they like their dentist. Call some select offices and ask if they have payment plans or just explain your situation and ask if there is anything you two can work out in the way of payment. And remember, dentists see all kinds of teeth: the pretty and the not-so-pretty. Don't be embarrassed about not having gone. They understand and they see it much more frequently than we would think.

--------------------
Try this: http://www.affordablecare.org/ or this: http://www.a2zmedline.com/dental.htm or call around to community health and service organizations to find out whether there are local plans available to you. This is a really difficult thing, I know. I wish you all the best of luck. We all need to advocate for dental care available to all. Why it's separated from emergency health care, Medicaid, and Medicare is a mystery.

So private insurance companies will now be required to accept pre-existing conditions?

And have no limits to coverage, cover all prescriptions, cover all doctor's office visits, cover dental, AND be cheaper and affordable for everyone? What is this Max Baucus guy smoking anyway? How is all of that possible without costing a lot more than what most people are paying now? They want to tax insurance companies for offering "Cadillac" insurance plans then require everyone else to have one too? Huh?
--------------------
Private insurers are already required to accept preexisting conditions on employer-based insurance. Even at the full rate, per person, employer insurance is cheaper than what an individual can get. If you spend more than 24,000 per person per year on health insurance, you have a "Cadillac" plan. Instead of taxing the individuals who have this type of plan, the Baucus plan is to tax the insurances that provide them.

can you tell me how a health insurance works? i need to get one.?

I am 18 years old, still in high school, only because i was not born here in Georgia and I just moved last year from Philippines. I've been trying to do a research on Health Insurance but i still dont get how it works. what do they mean by quotes? and what do you mean by file a claim? waa. and how am I supposed to find a doctor? will they find it for me once I apply for one? hm.. and actually,I really want to have dental insurance. but i know it is important to have a health insurance as well right away since anything might happen. can u suggest any cheap and affordable one? my family really needs it. and can you tell me how to find a doctor? =) thanks a lot ... =)
--------------------
This is long but it barely touches the surface of your question. Find a local independent agent and go talk with them. This person will be able to explain a complicated subject that we don't have enough room here to explain. They can also help you find a plan that is suitable for your situation. They don't charge you anything for the service. The quote is the estimated premium that you will pay monthly. The insurance company will not help you find a doctor. Depending upon the plan you will have to go to a doctor in the network. The agent will explain networks and may suggest doctors or can help you find one. Normally, you don't file a claim, the doctor's office does when you visit him. The agent will be able to explain this also. Dental is completely different and not included with most plans. Some companies will have dental as an option and the agent can assist there as well. You have three options with dental. 1. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 2. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 3. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

Im marrying a solier and need insurance?

When my solider gets home from Basic training for the army we are planning on getting married. Im trying to get everything in order before he gets home so its just that much easier for us but i was thinking today im still on my parents insurance. I am also 19 and still in college so i need the insurance. I know that it says on the army website family gets medical and dental health care but i just didnt know what all medical intaled. Any information would be a great help! Thanks!
--------------------
As long as you are in school and unmarried you will still be covered by your parents insurance. When your guy gets home and you get married, he can add you to his military insurance. It is good coverage, but you may have to go outside your local area for care. Do you plan to go with him when he gets his assignment (assuming it is not in a war zone)? If so, you will have military doctors close by. I would not try to purchase additional coverage until you decide what to do.

Does court ordered health insurance include vision in a child support case?

I am court ordered to pay child support and provide health insurance. It states I am responsible for one half of uncovered medical expenses. I have vision coverage but my ex took my daughter to get contacts and the provider was not covered under the insurance. Now she wants me to pay the bill for her contacts event though they would have been covered if she would have used and in-network provider. I have the insurance but she won't use it properlyAm I responsible for these bills? Am I required to pay for vision expenses if my court order does not specifically list vision and dental?
--------------------
The bigger question would be if you feel you are responsible for your child having these corrective lens. Not everything is about a court order....

Any AARP Members Using Delta Dental Membership?

If you are an AARP member and gotten Delta Dental insurance, did it work ok for you? There are two plans, A and B. Care to comment?
--------------------
First, I would check with your dentist. My dentist will not accept Delta Dental insurance, because of issues he had with negotiating fees. I'm not saying it is a bad company - my sister in law is an underwriter for them. Just saying to check with your dentist before enrolling.

has anyone ever gone to a dental school for dental treatment?

i am very short on cash and have no insurance but i need to have dental work done, i was thinking about going to a dental school..I need to know pros and cons of this.. any info would be greatly appreciated.. thank you.
--------------------
ive had 4 teeth filled at my local dental school. i do have a dentist, but its a lot cheaper and i always have him look over the work because i will have it fixed if done incorrectly. i think its worth it but it really depends on how experienced the dental student is. you wanna make sure hes not the one sleeping in class lol.

Will insurance cover my boyfriend and I?

My boyfriend and I are both young (22) and we recently got kicked off of our parent's insurance plans. We want to get insurance together, and were wondering if it is possible to do so? We are not married, but is there a way we can do it as a domestic partnership? Neither one of our offices that we work at offer a health insurance policy, either. We are looking for something affordable that preferrably includes dental, medical, and vision. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even names of reliable insurance companies would be great. Thanks in advance!
--------------------
This varies with companies, but it usually doesn't reduce your premium payment. Contact a local independant agent in your area to get many different plans and benefits. He/she will be able to help you choose the best plan for your particular financial and medical needs. Choosing your own plans will also cause no problems in coverage if at some point you both decide to go your own way. I am not saying this will happen, but just another point to consider.

Can you have two dental insurances and a dental plan?

My dentist told me today that I would be a good candidate for invisalign express treatment (this is not the first time this has been suggested to me by a dentist). However, delta dental insurance does not cover orthodontic treatment. My dentist quoted me a price of $3500.00 for the treatment. So I was thinking about purchasing another dental insurancethat covers orthodontic treatments and a dental plan to knock off the rest of the cost. I looked online to find a dental plan that discounts orthodontic procedures and I found this one: http://www.dentalplans.com/dentalplans/orthocarehome.asp?zipcode=46311. Now I just need to find a dental insurance that covers adult orthodontic treatments.
--------------------
I would encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars since. From cleanings, xrays, crowns..etc. My braces only cost me $2000 from the original quote of $4500. All though it may differ in the area you live, but the savings are great. I don't believe you will find a company(ies) that will cover the entire cost. Weather it is Invasilign or braces. Most will cover half. Invasalign is technically still new, and coverage for that is limited. hope this helps.

How about Universal Auto insurance?

Universal Dental, universal home insurance, universal life insurance, universal pet medical insurance, universal flood insurance, universal renters insurance. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have the government provide all insurance to everybody? There couldn't be problems with that right? ( please note heavy sarcasm )
--------------------
Bwahahaha so true! I will take Universal Auto Insurance! I love your sarcasm, the dental and pet ones you named made me laugh too! :)

if you have health insurance through work & you change to part time, can you still purchase the same insurance?

I am going to change my hours at work from full time to part time and I get pretty good insurance benefits as a full-time employee. However, my company does not offer this insurance to part-timers. Is there a way I could still keep my insurance by simply paying for it out of pocket? It is Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Metlife Dental. If so, how do I do this?
--------------------
There are two options. Pay to continue the health and dental insurance under COBRA. You will be allowed to do that for up to the next 18 months but understand that you can be charged 100 percent of the premiums plus a 2 percent administrative fee. "Pretty good" plans that are subsidized or paid for by your employer may be shockingly expensive when you are the one picking up the tab. The other possibility might be to see if the carriers offer a individual conversion plan. The benefits offered will not be so "rich" but you also won't have to be rich to afford the monthly premium.
