How do I get Dental Insurance when I don't have a job?

My girlfriend was laid off from her job about months ago. She was only there for about 4 months. So she wasn't able to get health or dental while she was there because you had to work so long. (just crap job anyways) well now I want to get her some Dental Insurance because we need to get her teeth checked up. So where do I start on this? Is it really expensive? Do you make monthly payments or is it all up front. Thanks for all the answers Ben

Hi there, I might help you. Have you looked on a dental plan before? They are way more cheaper than a dental insurance. They come in individual and family packages. You pay around $100 - $200 per year for a dental plan. If you want more info about them you can visit this site. http://individual-dental-plans.weebly.co… Now, the site they recommend have dental plans both for families like you and your son and for individuals. I hope you get some more alternatives. Take care!

What to do with no dental insurance?

My friend has a rotting tooth in the back of his mouth. About 4 years ago he got a temporary cap put on and has not been to the dentist since. He has no dental insurance and the tooth is infected and starting to rot. What does he need to have done and how much should he expect to pay?
--------------------
Prices vary by location. It is really hard to say how much he could be looking at. He should try to contact the dental society in his area and ask them about low cost dental care. They should be able to help him.

How can I purchase dental insurance for myself? I'm having a hard time understanding how!?

I want a dental insurance that will pay a good percentage toward fillings, root canals, extractions, and crowns. I am self-employed. Please help! I have never purchased dental insurance and the web search confused me. I also want to make sure there is no waiting period before I can use the benefits, because I need dental work as soon as possible.
--------------------
You have three options with dental. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. $50 deductible, annual maximum of $750 - $1500, waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$10 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

If one out three Americans have no dental insurance, what are we going to do to change this situation?

Yes, folks, this includes Republicans and Conservatives going without dental insurance. It means that 100 million out of 300 million Americans have no dental insurance, according to the American Dental Association.
--------------------
Fortunately, dental care is not as costly as medical care..... Most dental insurances do not cover 100% and only cover basics..... So.....considering the average cleaning is between $50-$100 total, a yearly cost for most people can run under $250 a year for check-ups and cleanings..... If you take care of things while they are small, dental costs are very affordable........ Prevention is the key......

Who offers the best dental insurance plans?

I dont want to have to pay out of butt for my insurance. I need it just for myself.I dont really want a high deductible. I am going to need quite a bit of dental work in 2010. Extractions and such. I dont even know where to start.
--------------------
Both answer are good. However If you are looking at Delta Dental PPOs you may have a problem with there max limit and their waiting periods. Since you Stated you need Major work done in 2010 the waiting periods will be an issue to consider. Dental Discount plans are great they normally do not have waiting periods and start if not in the next business day from sign up then within a few working days. The problem you may feel you have with a discount plan is that you have to chose one from one of there providers nothing is free you pay for everything but at a reduce or discount rate. There is another plan yet to be talked about this is an HMO. HMO is an insurance plan where you also have to chose a dentist in their net work but normally the cost for services render are cheaper then a dental discount plan. The down side is that they may not cover for you to see a specialist you need to read the policy terms. All the plans I talked about you can find depending on the state that you are in at http://www.insurancecompany.com I hope I have helped

Can I get a outside dental insurance plan?

My step Dad's insurance company dropped me under his dental insurance plan. So far I still get medical and etc... Because of my age I'm about to be drop out his insurance plan all together. Is there any way I can get an affordable dental insurance plan?
--------------------
You should definitely make sure you're continually covered on health insurance, but dental insurance is somewhat less important, and less cost effective. That is to say, health insurance is important, because it's entirely possible to at any moment get into an accident or develop a serious illness, etc, and it's important to be covered just in case, but any given year, most people do not require serious medical care, which is why your costs are relatively low compared to the amount of care that you could potentially get for that investment in insurance premiums. In dental insurance however, there aren't really pricey emergencies in the same way, and so you do just about as well paying for care when you receive it, as if you were paying an insurance company a monthly premium. That being said, I used ehealthinsurance.com to find a private dental insurance program that costs me about the same over six months as I would pay the dentist for the every six-month check-up, so I did sign up for it, just because that's motivation for me to actually make the appointment.

Can I get dental insurance if I'm on disability and get medicare/caid?

Can I get dental insurance if I'm on disability and have medicaid and medicare (which don't cover dental procedures)? Would if be cheaper to just pay for to get my cavities fixed without getting insurance? I have like 4.
--------------------
If you already have medicare/medicaid I would think you could qualify for the dental aspect of that insurance as well. As for paying out of pocket for your four cavities, you don't know if you may need a crown, or a root canal which could add up really quick. I'd apply for the medicare/medicaid then I'd address the dental problems you may have. Good Luck :)

I'd like to know where my son who has no dental insurance can get treated at a minimal cost?

My son is 46 yrs old. has a steady job but has no dental insurance. He needs teeth pulled and probably a full upper dnture made. what are his options?
--------------------
Go to the dental school nearest to you and book an appointment. That's where you'll get the cheapest price possible for any procedures that need to be done. It'll be done by students, but always with the guidance of the teachers and demonstrators and other dentists working at the school. The students are always taught very well, the only issue is that sometimes you have to go for a few different appointments whereas at a regular dentist it could be done quicker. However, if you're concerned about the cost, it's definitely worth it even if it means going for a few longer appointments.

You need to look up a local dentistry school and call them, they most likely will do the work for either little or nothing since they are "students". You can trust them as well because their instructor will be present and able to make sure they are deep cleaning you correctly.

Solutions for inadequate dental insurance coverage?

I have the standard Delta Dental insurance that is common for many employees, and am finding that I will still have to pay a lot out of pocket for work that is needed, especially since I may need a potential root canal and crown in a cavity the dentist identified. Does anyone have information regarding additional help for dental financing/insurance? My plan maxes out at $1,200 per person per year. It seems like I must simply pay for the rest of the costs myself, but wondered if anyone is aware of any other solutions?
