Cavities w/ no dental insurance?

Unfortunately, I have a cavity (despite brushing 2x per day + rinsing with fluoride mouth wash). I do not have dental insurance either. What's my best option?
--------------------
I would encourage you visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands since. From root canals, cleanings, xrays...etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. Or, maybe try a dental school to see if you qualify for their treatment.

Dental insurance ..... ???? Goods and Bads ...?

What dental insurance company is the best (good service/reasonable prices) nowadays? What are the most important moments? What are the most important "hidden stones" I should care/worry about? Thanks for your advices!
--------------------
They can all be good if you're willing to pay for it. There are options for deductibles, and maximum amounts paid in a year. Remember, an insurance company isn't going to lose money on you. You'll pay for the service sooner or later. The higher your premium, the better coverage you'll receive. So it's not always the company which is best. It's the plan you purchase.

I don't have dental insurance.?

I don't have dental insurance and I haven't been to the dentist in years. Anyone know of any good dental discounts or insurance. I really want to go and get a cleaning and check up. I think i'll need some work done considering my jaw hurts and the gap in my teeth seems to be getting wider. Anyone else not have dental insurance? Thanks for the help
--------------------
You have five options with dental. 1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance. 2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. 3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans. 4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… concerning these plans. 5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404. I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

Dental Insurance reimbursement?

My ex has been providing me with copies of dental bills for my daughters dental work. I have been reimbursing her for half of the bills each time. I do not currently provide dental insurance for my daughter. I noticed a box on the bottom of the bill that showed previous charges, current charges, etc. and estimated amount insurance will cover, which showed the full previous amount. I began wondering if the ex has dental insurance for my daughter and is receiving reimbursements for the bills in addition to me paying her for half of the bill. Being the type of person she is, I wouldn't put it past her. Is there any way I could call the Dentist myself and ask if insurance is being provided for my daughters dental work - or am I going to have a problem because of HIPAA regulations? Any advice is appreicated.

Make copies of all the bills you received and give it to a lawyer to review.

Dental care without insurance...?

My fiance has had a tooth ache for the past week, he says "it doesn't hurt when he takes pain killers." (duh) but lets face it.. it's probably not going to fix itself and just being ignored, it'll only get worse. He has no dental insurance and dental care can be very pricey.. and we, of course, don't want to just go anywhere for it, because even if it cost us next to nothing, if it's not good dental care, it's a waste of money. any sugguestions? We're in upstate NY.
--------------------
call around...i used to work in a medical clinic and if asked we would give a good discount if they didn't have insurance but it had to be paid right then and there...many have payment plans with no interest

Dental w/o insurance...?

Ok, so I was told health insurance is required to get dental insurance, but my current job doest offer health or dental, and i dont see any around my area that offer it, with my work experience. I have major misaligned teeth (i cant chew w/o biting my tongue), and need quite a bit of dental work. Is it possible to get dental work without insurance? and if so, can i expect this to be a very hefty price?
--------------------
Go to the Department of Health in your state and they can help you with this one. The social workers will have a list of clinics and universities or dental schools in your area that offer discounted services. Also, tell them about your insurance situation and you might be able to apply for some sort of assistance or medical help from the state. My state (Washington) has a Basic Health plan that people can get at a discounted or very low price. It isn't the best and there are some docs out there who might give you worse service than if you were someone who was able to pay out of pocket but there are bad docs everywhere so it's a chance you'll have to take. Good luck on this.

Does any dental insurance cover Invasalign?

How much will you normally pay for them?
--------------------
Not true that Invisalign is considered "more cosmetic" than traditional braces. If y ou have an orthodontic benefit, it will pay for Invisalign just like it would for braces. More and more plans are paying adult orthodontia. Crowding and misaligned teeth cause many problems and correcting them is not cosmetic only. Prices may be less than regular braces. Find a general dentist with experience in working with Invisalign. This could save you money.

should i change dental insurance?

ok i went to the dentist and main things i need are scaling, root canal and a precious crown. total amount with insurance is $2325. why does my insurance only cover $490 of this money? i have cigna dhmo.
--------------------
Cigna dhmo is like an hmo medical plan. Your dentist has agreed to accept your insurance (your insurance is one of the weakest plans there is) but is not contracted with Cigna. This means that your dentist is willing to file a claim with your insurance and will accept their payment as partial payment for services rendered. Some insurance payment is better than nothing. I have a different Cigna plan, it is a pretty standard PPO, it pays 50% of major (precious METAL crowns, not precious crowns) which includes all prosthetics, 80% of routine (fillings, scaling) and 100% of routine (x-rays, cleanings). Yes, change plans. Met Life and Delta Dental have plans that are pretty standard/ Whatever you do, don't seek out less expensive dental work, the average fee for scaling is about $350 a quadrant (4 quads in your mouth), $900-$1200 per crown and $600-$1200 per root canal. Your dentist is right in range with good dentists. I really don't want to contradict anyone but insurance companies pay 50% for crowns because that is what they contract to pay for, some pay 100%, it depends upon the plan you have. Crowns are not cosmetic, they are vital and insurance companies will pay to replace them every 3-5 years, that is how necessary they are. Also, crowns are placed to preserve the integrity of your bite. If a space is allowed to remain, the surrounding teeth will eventually close inward, creating a terrible bite which leads to many other problems.

DOS- Delta Dental Insurance?

I just got white fillings today. I was told that delta dental doesn't pay for white ones just silver. I asked the lady if I will be paying those and she say's yea but they gonna have to wait for the insurance etc. but I still had to pay out-of my pocket today but my question is this..did they charge me for the white fillings today and will I have to pay them again if the insurance doesn't pay for white fillings..I'm confused please help!!!
--------------------
Most dental insurance plans pay out at a "least expensive alternative benefit" level. In plain words: "we'll pay for the cheapest way to fix your tooth." On a back tooth, most plans will only pay for silver or amalgam fillings. Your dentist may prefer white or composite for many reasons other than how they look. Your dental office will make a good faith effort to estimate what your portion will be, but it is impossible for them to be experts on every plan. They will collect part of your co-pay at the time of your appointment, but there may be a balance due after insurance pays. Some offices are familiar with your plan and may be about 95% accurate, but they can't know exactly what your plan will pay.

if i dont have dental insurance can i still go to dentist?

i have a real bad infection in my gums can i go to any dentist and how much will it cost
--------------------
You can still go to the dentist. Its probably going to be considered a deep cleaning (American Dental Association Code 4341). That procedure has a cost per quadrant, so when you ask the dentist for a price be sure to check if the price he quotes is for the whole thing or just for a quadrant. The price for that is usually $255 or less per quadrant. Now on options to make it affordable. Definitely call the dentist and see if they have some ways to make it cheaper. But another thing to check out will be something called a Discount Dental Plan. Those plans start right away, do not have a deductible (which means you dont have to pay a certain amount before on dental before the plan kicks in), and those plans are fairly inexpensive (some are just about $7 a month). Now they usually have a start up fee between 20-40 dollars, but again some of them can cut your costs significantly on that procedure right away. The best plan in my opinion is the one available at 1Dental.com. It cuts the price generally about in half if not more at a general dentist. I know for a fact that it does start immediately and they do have a monthly membership option for 7 dollars a month. If that one doesn't work though check out the Aetna Dental Access Plan. Its not as strong on the savings, but it does have quite a few dentists that take it. The only downside to those plans is that they dont have a payment plan for the procedure themselves already fixed in, so given your situation, i would find a dentist on one of those plans and ask them if they would accept the discount plan AND work out a payment plan for you on that procedure. I hope that helps. ***edit: i found this coupon online for aspen dental. http://www.aspendental.com/coupons/freee… It will get you a free exam and x-ray.

is there any dental insurance that pay for cosmetic oral surgery?

i have blue cross/ blue shield dental and health insurance, i recently been to the dentist because i need to have dental implants put in, i was told that my insurance wont cover the the putting in of the dental implants because it's considered cosmetic but would cover some of the restoration, the accounts lady also said its hard to fine any dental insurance to cover any cosmetic surgeries, but she did say that some percentage of the restorative part would be covered so my questions is that is this true that most all dental insurances won't cover the cosmetic part? i had a friend tell me that her dad had dental implant surgery and his dental covered it all, i also told the accounts lady this at the dental office she laughed and she please give me the name of that wonderful dental insurance i need that, anyone knows of any insurance company that pays for dental implants?? if u do let me know..
--------------------
I never heard of any that pay for complete coverage for implants especially for cosmetic reasons. I would believe the dental person more than I would believe your friends story. Simple solution, ask your friend to show you the receipts and payments from the insurance co.for proof

Ran out of dental insurance... Now what?

Earlier this year I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled. Now I also need to get 2 root canal's (both of them are re-work) but my insurance wont cover it because I've reached my max for the year. The total procedure will cost me at least $3k and I'm in really tough pain. I have two questions... 1.) What options do I have? 2.) What the hell is dental insurance for anyway?

I need to get either one or two implants or bridges on my front teeth (according to one dentist), one of my crowns may fall out before my next 6 month appointment. So any recommendations for dental insurance in Nevada.

Individual Dental Insurance?

I'm looking for individual dental insurance. Does anyone have any recomendations...
--------------------
There are basically two kinds of individual plans that are fairly affordable. Dental discount plans (like Ameriplan or Assurant) but they're discounted plans. Usually free cleanings and diagnostics, but you'll be out of pocket about 70% for expensive procedures, because they have limited annual caps on total payouts. Most other plans are cost sharing plans (like Delta, Guardian, and Aflac). They pay some, you pay some. Some have deductibles, some have elimination periods. Do you need a procedure RIGHT NOW, like a root canal? NOTHING out there, no carrier will insure someone who needs it right now (so don't believe it!). Just like trying to buy car insurance after a wreck, or life insurance after a terminal diagnosis. I haven't met a decent dentist yet that wouldn't work out a payment plan when you are forced to "self pay" or "cash pay". Also some credit card companies like CAPITAL ONE actually finance costly dental procedures (if you have good credit).

I am in serious need of major dental work, and I have no insurance. What can I do?

My job offers NO insurance, and I dont make that much money to pay for any dentist visits.
--------------------
See if there is a dental school in your area. Their fees are greatly reduced from licensed dentists. There are drawbacks however. There is generally a waiting list to be approved; the procedures take longer since you are primarily being worked on by students, but the teachers do work alongside them; if you miss more than one appointment, you are booted out of the system. You could also try the health unit. Some areas are setting up dental clinics as well as medical.
