Does Indiana Medicaid cover dental for children?

My daughter has Medicaid insurance and we live in Indiana. I have heard of a few child dentisry's that accept Medicaid and interested in taking her for her first exam. I am assuming if the dentists promote that they accept Medicaid then her plan (which is just the ordinary plan they give kids?) would be part of this. Unless there is a special dental plan I need to get her on or something. I of course cannot get a hold of anyone at the Medicaid office, and have been unsucessful in finding anything online about this. If anyone knows if her dental exam would be covered or any other info you can give me, that would help a lot! Thanks
--------------------
You could also start by giving the dentist of your choice that accepts Medicaid a call. Have your children's Medicaid numbers and cards available. The dentist office will be able to verify benefits and let you know faster than dealing with the Medicaid office. Good luck

chipped tooth how can i fix it?

i play hockey and i took a puck to the face now my tooth chipped how can i fix it at home because i dont have dental insurance i need to fix it b4 it causes me pain lol help me please
--------------------
You can't. Call the American Dental Association for a referral to someone who will fix it cheaply or is willing take payments over a length of time. If there is a dental school in your area, you may find their rates considerably less.

I haven't been to the dentist in almost a year...?

I feel horrible.I moved to Texas, and had sooo much trouble trying to get my dental insurance card so that I could go to a dentist there. I am back home now temporarily, and i really need to go. I brush everyday and night and I floss, but I have had a cavity that has now caused my tooth to break. Sometimes it really hurts bad. I have always had pretty teeth, and this one tooth (which is a back tooth) will need a cap.Is it possible to request a porcelain cap to match the rest of my teeth? Or will it have to be pulled? its HORRIBLE. I am just afraid of what my dentist will say and think since it has been so long. Serious advice would be nice...none of those ugly immature comments please? Thanks
--------------------
It really depends on how bad the tooth is. If the hole goes beneath the gum you might have to get it pulled out. If it really is THAT bad you should get it out. But if it dosn't go that far maybe you could get it fixed. You should really go to the dentist anyway and get their opinion. Don't worry, your dentist wont judge you. Just imagine what they have seen. I'm sure they have seen much worse!

does medicaid cover tooth extractions?

i need to get two wisdom teeth taken out and two teeth on my top row so i can braces but we don't have dental insurance. i know medicaid doesn't cover braces
--------------------
Not really sure where you're from, but in most states Medicaid does cover braces as long as they are placed prior to your 21st birthday (believe me, I work in an orthodontic office and do the billing every month). The problem is finding an orthodontist (and it must be an orthodontist, not a general dentist) that participates in the medicaid program. Same thing goes for a dentist or an oral surgeon for the extractions. And FYI, for the most part, wisdom teeth have no bearing in orthodontic work. Unless it's something really crazy going on in there. Doesn't matter if they're in or not. But if you're missing lower wisdom teeth and you have your upper wisdom teeth, they should come out in that situation. Good luck!
Source

Should i have wisdom teeth pulled? Pain in gums, which are receding...tooth coming in, in back.?

Don't have dental insurance, or money to pay for expensive opertation...
--------------------
talk to your dental doctor tell him that you need alternatives for operation if he think that he can control the situation without using operation he wont do any operation..But if the problem have increased very much that means you gotta do the operation...

Hard bump in my mouth...what could it be?

I have a hard bump on the lower part of my mouth sort of like inside my gums on my jaw bone. It's large enough that my cheek looks swollen almost like when I got my wisdom teeth out. There's not color to it or any little bumps just a hard mass inside my gums. What could it be? I'm really worried and I won't have dental insurance for at least another month!
--------------------
It can be a clogged salivary gland..you can have your dentist look and decide as to what to do, either he can burst it for you or wait for it to burst itself. It is possible it can reappear, chances are it may. Make a appointment to be safe.

Has anyone ever used dentalplans.com....?

for dental insurance? Can you please kindly share your experience with the website and your dentist? Thanks!
--------------------
Yes, they are a much better alternative to dental insurance. They have no yearly maximum (insurance max at $750-$1500), no deductible (insurance usually has $50 deductible), no waiting periods (insurance waiting periods up to 18 months for major procedures). This website http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… has the exact same plans available but you have an agent you can call to answer your questions at no additional premium. As a health insurance agent I'm very familiar with dental insurance and dental fee for service plans and my plan is Aetna Dental Access through Dental Plans. One word of caution. Before signing up with any dental plan or dental insurance look at the list of dentists. Call a couple of them to see if they're still accepting the plan and if they're taking new patients.

Can't get wisdom teeth out! What to do!?

I got my braces off a few months ago. I recently went to my orthodontist who told me to get my wisdom teeth out as soon as possible. However, I will not have dental insurance until January 1, 2011. My wisdom teeth already hurt now. Is there anything I can do? What would stop the pain? Will my newly straightened teeth be crooked, now?

Pregnancy: Really really bad toothaches & bleeding gums?? Whats safe?

Ever since I've been pregnant I've gotten the worst toothaches ever and my gums bleed like crazy... I can't bite into an apple without it hurting. I won't be covered by dental insurance for about 15 more days so I need to tough this out. Whats safe to take? I've been trying to go all natural and save the orajel and tylonal for the really bad days. But I also came down with a cold and simply need medication. I don't feel like a good mother to my unborn by taking tylonal every few hours and putting orajel in my mouth... but I can't take all the pain and now I have an unbearable headache. Someone help me please...
--------------------
maybe go in talk to doctor. maybe he will prescribe something safe for baby to help with the pain for the next week or so until insurance kicks in. some dentists are very reasonable about these situations.

Common Insurances?

Hi, i'm a young man who is about to move out on his own really soon, and i'm just curious to find out what type of insurances am i really going to need to survive with on my own. For example, health insurance, medicare insurance, dental insurance and i don't know the rest................
--------------------
You need to sit down and talk to the guy that writes your CAR insurance. Medicare is welfare health insurance for the elderly and disabled. Dental costs more than you get, you're better off without. Generally, you're going to need renters insurance, health insurance and car insurance.

Can I qualify for medicaid?

I am 19 years old. My parents do not have health insurance and I have nasal polyps and asthma. I need surgery to get rid of them and doctor visits are very expensive. I am a full time college student but I really need insurance and also need dental insurance
--------------------
Talk to the student services person or student affairs director at your college. There are low-cost options available for college students. You would not qualify for Medicaid.

Dental HELP PLEASE!!!!!!?

I am in soo much pain anymore. I have let this go to long. I just have not had any insurance to help me at all. Does anyone know of any full coverage dental plans? They all seem to have major restrictions. I would like to have major work done without big upfront costs. I am more than happy to pay it over a long haul but cant justify it all at once. I'm really at the point now where I would rather just get all fake teeth but can not afford that either. For about 2 years I have had to eat on my left side of my mouth due to my right side being extremely bad and a rotten tooth. Now my left side is in horrible pain as well. HELP PLEEEEASE!!! :(
--------------------
There is a full coverage dental plan from AmeriPlan USA. It is $19.95 a month and covers everything dental related. You save about 30-80% on all dental services, (depending on where you live of course). you can still get the great discounts, and only have the work done as needed. This plan also offers free coverage at no extra charge for prescription drugs, vision and chiropractic care as well.. so after the dental work, if you get a prescription for the pain, you can get 25% off name brand and 50% off generics!

Hepatitis C Transmission through dental tools?

Hi,.sadly the Hep C (the silent killer) could be contracted through dental tools but, after hours and hours of searching the net I couldn't nail a study or statistic about Heptatitis C transmission through dental tools, and I feel like such important aspect is not really covered. I really wish to know how often such scary incident of Hep C transmission happen in America and specially in a place like California. Does anyone know a link or website or share his own knowledge about Heptatis C transmission through dental tools. Also as a person who lives in the united states I know that there is some high level of dental sterilization at least for the majority of dental offices. but what's the safety net for any breach in such standards...I mean how often they are scanned or visited by health officials to check the quality of sterilization in a given dental office. Can anyone explain how the sterilization inspection happens and how often does it happen? Does the insurance companies send inspectors to report any violation? thanks in advance.
--------------------
the state board of dental examiners do check sterilization, but the thing is, its not a problem for us to sterilize instruments... its just a part of the job, we are trained to do it, its done with every instrument. the dentist is particular about it, we are particular about it. if a patient gets sick from a dental tool in our office, we could all lose our licenses, every dental assistant i know has the mentality of "would i put that in MY mouth, or my child's mouth?" ... so i hope this has put your mind at ease. all instruments are put into a sterilizer or auto clave, there is no chance of hep c.

Which Insurance Would Be Better?

I am trying to decide between a Blue Cross Blue Shield health plan with a $500 deductible and 30% coinsurance and an Aetna health plan with no deductible and 40% coinsurance. The Aetna Plan is $30 cheaper than Blue Cross and it includes dental. Most of the other policy details are the same. Which would would you choose?
--------------------
It depends. Deductibles suck but then again, so does a 40% coinsurance. If your copays are $30 and $40 (respectively) for the two plans, just try to think of what your healthcare needs are and see which plan works best. Have you thought about an HMO? They are a lot less expensive than PPO plans.

Dentist said they participate with my insurance, but they don't. Now I'm stuck with the bill. What options?

My husband has been going to one dentist for years. This past November he had to get his widsom teeth out. They said they verified payment, but they must not have. Wisdom teeth extraction falls under medical, not dental, and they don't participate with my medical insurance. Now we're stuck with a bill for $2300 and I already paid about $500 out of pocket before the surgery. What can I do at this point? I never would have gone to them if I knew it wouldn't be covered. Do I have any recourse??
--------------------
First $2300 for IV sedation and 4 surgical extractions is very reasonable. The big problem is which insurance, dental or medical, is responsible for the bill. Is the medical and dental insurance the same company? Is this an HMO or PPO and you can only see certain providers? Either or both insurances should be responsible for the procedure. They are probably saying that you did not use one of their providers. Call their offices and file a grievance with them. Also send a letter to your state insurance commission (along with a copy to the insurance companies). You may have to fight for the payment but you should prevail. Good luck

Is there a dentist out there that is willing to fix my entire mouth?

Ever since I was 5 yrs old I have been afflicted with tooth pain (due to spinal menenchitus my teeth came out mushy.) I am now 40 yrs old and on the verge of becomming a dental handicap. but even that's to costly. I have insurance. Everyday for the past ten years or so I have had toothache pain. I am willing to be a guinnea pig if thats what it takes to use my smile again. Currently my teeth are either missing, have incomlete root canals, abcessed or crazy glued back in. If there is a dentist out there that is willing to work with me because they care about teeth and is not in it for a whole lot of money, please here my cry.
--------------------
omg, that's horrible! for the sake of your health (you do know that crazy glue is toxic, right?) please go see the best dentist in your area and get the treatment you deserve! Go to this website to find someone in your area who can perform dental implant surgery: www.1stdentalimplants.com here an except from www.ada.org/public/topics/implants.asp : "Crowns and conventional bridges or dentures may not be your only options when replacing missing teeth. For some people, dental implants offer a smile that looks and feels very natural. Surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for individual replacement teeth, bridges or a denture. Implants offer stability because they fuse to your (jaw)bone. Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes. Candidates for dental implants need to have healthy gums and adequate (jaw)bone to support the implant. A thorough evaluation by your dentist will help determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants." "What is involved in placing implants? First, surgery is performed to place the anchor. Surgery can take up to several hours, and up to six months may be required for the bone to grow around the anchor and firmly hold it in place. Some implants require a second surgery in which a post is attached to connect the anchor to the replacement teeth. With other implants, the anchor and post are already attached and are placed at the same time. After the gums have had several weeks to heal, the next step is begun. The artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step can take one to two months to complete. Implant surgery can be done either in a dental office or in a hospital, depending upon a number of factors. A local or general anesthetic may be used. Usually pain medications and, when necessary, antibiotics are prescribed. Your dentist will give you instructions on diet and oral hygiene." hope this helps! ^_^

Dental system in US - is this how it works?

My wife had a bit of bad gum in her mouth and she got some deep cleaning stuff done. Since then when she goes to get her regular cleaning done, the dentist office categorizes her cleaning as Periodontal Maintenance which my insurance doesn't cover unless some sort of Periodontal surgery was performed before while she was covered by this insurance company. Like I said, she got some sort of deep cleaning done last year but we had different insurance company, so I am guessing my current insurance company won't be covering this Periodontal Maintenance. This much I can accept... However, when I called my dentist office and ask them to perform just a regular cleaning instead of this Periodontal Maintenance because my wife tells me she doesn't see them doing anything different from regular cleaning and since insurance doesn't cover the periodontal maintenance, but then the dentist office tells me that just because the dentist labeled her as someone needing Periodontal maintenence, they cannot just do a regular cleaning even if the regular cleaning is what we want! Is this how the US dental system works? Or are we getting ripped off? We are the one that's paying the money, so why can't we get the service that we want? I don't get that??? So I am thinking about switching to a new dentist and not transferring any of her record and start fresh, and if she gets identified as someone needing Periodontal Maintenance, I am hoping they will be doing something first so that the Periodontal Maintenance will get covered.. Does this sound like a good idea? So.. 2 questions here.. 1. Is his how US dental system works? 2. Does switching to a new dentist sound like a good idea?

If you tell them that your insurance will not pay with that designation, they will generally change it to meet your needs. If the receptionist is stubborn, talk to the Dentist.

Dental trade for massage?

I am a massage therapist in Dallas TX and I am in desperate need of dental work. Like most others in my profession I do not have insurance and I never know what my income will be. Are there any dentist in the area that would not mind getting massage therapy in trade for dental work? I have 7 or so years of experience as a registered massage therapist on top of a lifetime of study (my Dad was a therapist as well). I am experienced in swedish, deep tissue, myo-fascial release, soft tissue techniques and reflexology (for feet and hands). I do have clients that would be happy to give their opinion and a reference as well. If you are a dentist or know a destist that would work with me please let me know, I will be eternally greatful!

Medicaid application question- what to say on forms when you live with boyfriend but he doen't support you?

I'm a 28yo ft student that hasn't made a dime since Jan. I'm taking to way many credit hours to work. I got a little fin. aid and had to take out a student loan. I haven't even gotten the check yet, so I'm dead broke and in debt. It's not such a big deal, I've been broke before, I can do it again. The problem is, I need health and dental insurance. Every independent plan including student plans cost atleast $100 a month, I can't afford that. I've been told I would qualify for medicaid and it's free. But I know they will ask about who I live with and how much he makes. My boyfriend makes good money, but he doesn't support me. I haven't been paying rent but once I get that check he wants me to pay atleast a little. So, what do I say on the forms? If I say I do pay rent, will he have to mention that when he files his taxes? If I say I don't pay, will they he supports me and want to include his income? I truly am broke, can't work, am not being supported and need insurance. what do I say?
--------------------
I work as auditor for Medicaid. Just do this! don't put him in the application and he should write a letter of support stating the he helps you with meal you can submit your income and also a letter from your school stating that you go to school or college full-time. They don't count your income if you go to school full-time. If You have resources I mean money in the bank over 2,000 in the bank you wont qualify. You don't have to lie, just say the true you go the school and your boyfriend is helping you. If you have any other question send me an email, I'll be happy to help you.

Insurance clarity - need help!?

If you injured yourself, say a few of weeks ago...maybe twisted an ankle that you think is pretty much healed but still causes you some problems AND YOU DID NOT SEE A PHYSICIAN about it - and then recently opted to get medical insurance. When they ask if you have any pre-existing conditions, is this one of them? Or is pre-existing something you went and saw a physician about, or an on-going health problem, ie high blood pressure etc? I would like to see the doctor and ask him to check my ankle... Also, is getting your wisdom teeth pulled considered medical or is it considered dental?

Dental question?

first, I already know it's best to ask a dentist. It's 11 pm so that will have to wait until morning....Anyways, I need quite a bit of dental work done. I have a calcium deficiency and because of that my teeth will break without warning. I also have a cavity that needs filled, thanks to a tooth chipping where it shouldn't have. Okay, as of now and for the next few months, I am without any type of insurance. Would it hurt to wait a few more months to go to the dentist is would it be better to set up a payment plan and have them done now?
--------------------
In our area, there are doctors and dentists who help those for free. You may want to check to see if you have the same in your area. If not, see if you can work out a payment plan with a dentist. Sometimes if you make regular payments on time, they will give you a percentage break and you do not have to pay the whole amount, but you have to show an honest effort. In the meantime, start taking calcium supplements, drink more milk, and rinse with hydrogen peroxide. Also, get a little vitamin D by going outside in the sun for about 15 minutes a day. Stop drinking sodas and sugar-laden drinks, and drink through a straw.

Will Kaiser Permanente take out my Wisdom Teeth?

I haven't called yet but I don't wanna feel stupid when I do :/ My dental won't cover me anymore cuz I'm not a full time student so my next option is my medical which covers me regardless of student status. I know kaiser doesn't have dental will they take out my wisdom teeth if I need them to? they aren't going to sit and wait til someone takes them out I've already called around to other dental insurance and so far its a no go
--------------------
I would contact Kaiser and find out. If your wisdom teeth will create other health problems, then they might take them out. If it's for purely cosmetic reasons, ie it will mess up your smile, my guess they won't. As for all those people who poo poo Kaiser, let me state that you have to be forceful and assertive with Kaiser and take charge of your own health care. Be informed and educated. Kaiser is a "cattle" outfit; however, it does offer health coverage for a lot less.
