what can I do about my wisdom teeth, they are coming out and hurting.?

I'm 23 years old, unemployed with no dental insurance. I can't afford to go to dentist. My wisdom teeth are coming out, my gums are really puffy and the pain is excruciating I went to the dentist school thinking it would be cheaper to get them removed but it still costs about $1500 to do that. What can I do about the pain? Is there anything I can do to fix this myself?

Just got a job offer for 5 people co. starting out at 37yr with employer paying half of health bene's?

No dental insurance, but 401k and HMO Blue with only half being paid for my employer. I think the total a month would be $486 for health. Is that typical or alot. If I'm making 37,000 a year how much would come out of my check a month?
--------------------
It sounds like a good opportunity. My husband has a similar situation but a lower annual salary in exchange for full health coverage. Dental insurance isn't a big deal unless you have major dental problems in which case you can apply for supplemental insurance. I'm not exactly sure if you mean the $486 is the full amount or your portion of health insurance. If it is the full amount that is almost exactly what my husband's company charges for health insurance.

What happens if I don't get my wisdom teeth pulled?

Ok, well I can feel like a millimeter of one of my wisdom teeth starting to come in. i don't have dental insurance, so it would cost thousands of dollars to get them taken out. Well, I don't have that at this moment. What happens if I don't get them pulled right away? Anything? Will they ruin my almost perfect teeth? Also, I'm FREAKED OUT of getting them pulled. I would probably have a heart attack.
--------------------
Bad things that can happen from wisdom teeth are infections, pain, and making other teeth crooked. Also wisdom teeth are very far back and hard to brush, so you could easily get cavities in them. So often, the dentist will recommend that you get them removed. So, before you are freaked out too much, make an appointment to see your dentist. He/she will look at the wisdom teeth and tell you what to expect. Ask the dentist what your options are and also about how you can pay for the wisdom teeth. Many dentists and oral surgeons offer payment plans to patients. What to expect if you get your wisdom teeth removed: you may have to fast the morning of or evening before the surgery. You will either get a local anesthesia or full anesthesia depending on what you and your dentist decide is best for you. This means that you will either be "asleep" for the entire procedure or that you will get a small shot that will numb your mouth but you will stay awake. For either option, you will not feel pain when the wisdom teeth are removed. When they have finished the surgery, they will put stitches on your gums and make sure you are ok and everything. You will be given directions on how to care for your teeth for the next few days. Your mouth might be a little bit sore, and they will tell you which painkillers will be good to take. You should also follow the directions about eating soft foods and drinking plenty of fluids and getting enough rest and avoiding strenuous activity for a few days. (Cuz the body needs to heal.) Overall, getting the teeth removed is 100 times better than the pain and problems you could have if you don't. Ask the dentist any questions you have about the whole thing and you will be fine.

WIll Medicaid help pay for my dental implant?

I got a tooth pulled yesterday. the oral surgeon says I must replace the tooth or my teeth will begin to spread and tooth below the missing one will become damaged. He said mostly likely it will cost $3000. I have very low income and NY medicaid insurance. Will they help to cover some of the implant cost?

MEDICAID DOESN'T COVER IMPLANTS. FYI, NO INSURANCE COVERS THESE. WHY NOT? THERE ARE MORE INEXPENSIVE ALTERNATIVES.

How do you find a decent dentist that will accept your insurance as full pymt?

Need major dental work, & unable to find financing. Dental est. was aprox 3,000.
--------------------
To add to HeatherS above... Many dentist sign agreements with insurance companies which limit your out-of-pocket expenses. They may pay 50% or 80% of the cost of a procedure, but it will be 50% or 80% of a predetermined amount, and not what the dentist charges... you pay your share of what the insurance company allows, and the dentist writes off the difference... Example: The dentist charges $150 for a certain filling and you have 80% coverage. The insurance company allows only $100 for that filling. They will pay 80% of $100, and you pay 20%, or $20 of the $100... the extra $50 the dentist wants to charge is written off... To find a dentist who has made such an agreement, try calling your dental insurance... they may have a list they can send you. You can also call a dentist and ask if they are a PARTICIPATING PROVIDER with your insurance. USE THAT TERM, since most dentists will say they accept your insurance, but if they don't PARTICIPATE, they can charge that extra $50 I mentioned above to you... Be careful you don't go over the benefit maximum for your year... if you do, you make up ALL the difference... contact your insurance company's Benefits depaartment to clarify what is and isn't covered and what the % of coverage is. anybody got any idea when dental implants will be cheaper to have?

I desperately need them but I cannot afford the $12,000 I was quoted for the things and insurance does not cover it. I have such a shallow palat I was told that that is the reason I have to have such a long back piece on my top plate that gags me all the time so I wonder if anybody knows about a cheap way or when they might drop in price.
--------------------
Unfortunately, probably not anytime soon (in my opinion). Implants are a lot more complicated than having fake teeth screwed into place, and the associated costs are bound to be high. Even before the surgery itself, you will have to go through a number of appointments to have impressions and x-rays taken. Somebody then looks at these models and x-rays to figure out what size implant to use, and what angle it should be inserted at, etc. With the models of your teeth, they build an apparatus that will guide the surgeon. So part of the cost incorporates lab fees (which are sky high), cost of the materials used (also sky high), and a small portion goes toward the salaries of the people who are doing the work. (Hygienists, assistants, lab techs, etc.) Everything is done by hand. A large portion of the cost is because of the surgical nature of the procedure (including anaesthetic.) It involves cutting into the gum, then drilling upwards into the bone at the EXACT angle for correct placement of the implant. This also must take into consideration the location of your nerves, blood vessels, etc. The surgeon, in many cases, is also an MD, or at the very least an oral surgeon. In some cases, when there is not enough bone present, the surgeon will have to add more before going ahead with the implant, which adds another stage of surgery and a higher cost. (Even more so if you have it done in a hospital operatory). The implant itself is fairly expensive, as it is made from a material that is designed to integrate with your bone without causing bone resorption or infection. There is always research being done on dental biomaterials, and creating one that is "perfect" is not a cheap process. Consequently, they cost a fortune to the people making implants from them, and that cost is passed on to the patient. The crown of the implant is also expensive. The ones I have seen are hand made, starting with a wax-up and ending with painting on the "enamel" part, layer by layer and colour by colour so it matches your teeth perfectly. In between there are a number of steps that are a lot like jewellery making. (There is no computer that does this.) Unfortunately, because of everything that goes into the placement of an implant, I can't see the cost coming down a whole lot anytime soon. (Unless someone invents an expensive computer system.) Insurance companies may be more accepting of them though as they become more popular. I think I would be really afraid of anyone who says they can do it for $500...I would worry that they don't know what they're doing! But maybe I'm wrong, who knows. :)

I really want to become a teacher but I worry there will be no jobs when i graduate in 4 years and that i will?

Do dental schools perform anesthesia?

I need to have a dental procedure done that is going to require anesthesia and I have been told that if you go to a local dental school you can get work done for very cheap. I was just curious if they would even be able to perform the procedure since it would require general anesthesia. I don't have insurance so I am looking for a cheap alternative! Thanks.
--------------------
Most dental schools have oral surgery programs and clinics that administer general anesthetics. Call the school and they will give you a consultation appointment and will explain the procedures. Good luck

I'm changing the status of my job. What would be the best supplemental health insurance?

I'm a healthy female with no pre-existing conditions. Would it be best to get Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I do need medical, dental, vision, short term disability and long term disability.
--------------------
For medical I would go with a HSA compatible high deductible health insurance, not necessarily BC/BS. There are many available out there. HSA stands for health savings account. For dental and vision I would recommend http://e-healthplus.com

If you lose 1 tooth, do you have to get the rest pulled?

Tooth loss question: 1 friend says that the tooth that came out will require me to have the rest pulled out and then dentures, another says not true, that just because one decayed, the rest can probably be saved. Anyone have experience with this here, I am extremely fearful of dentist, this tooth came out a year ago, the one next to it, the top broke off today, now I'm getting freaked out, I have no dental insurance and am worried about not only finding a good dentist but one who will take pymts.
--------------------
First off, you won't have to have all your teeth pulled.. Second, you should obviously take better care of your teeth if they're rotting and falling out. Third, it'd probably be better if you got them pulled an wore dentures if all your teeth are rotting. Fourth, don't take offence.

I have serious dental emergency and no dentist will accept Ontario Works patients!?

I am having one HELL of a time finding a dentist who doesn't laugh when I tell them I'm on Ontario Works! They all tell me that getting payment from the OW insurance company (Great West Life) would require a full-time employee doing nothing else! They also pay the dentist next to nothing! $100 tooth extraction nets the dentist $22! Is there a dentist in the Brampton, Ontario area who will accept OW patients? This is an emergency!
--------------------
I do not know if this will help you but have you tried calling Ontario works and finding out where the heck you can go? Tell them what the dentists are saying about them and that you need to know where you can go that will take you. After all if they are that bad I would think about getting some other kind of plan if possible. Also not sure if you can do this or a afford to for that matter but might be something you can do. Call the dentist and if they said the same thing as stated above tell them you would be wiling to pay in full and file the claim yourself. That way you can get the refund due you back from Ontario Works.

Would my sons school have accident insurance to cover repairing the tooth he broke at school?

A boy at my sons school knocked him down and caused my son to chip his tooth on this boys head. As a dental assistant, I know what will need to be done to repair the tooth. Of course, my boss would do the work for free, but I don't feel that he should have to pay for the cost of the materials. I have been told that schools have accident insurance to cover things like this. Is that true?
--------------------
I don't see why the school should be responsible for something an individual child did. I would handle the situation with the other boy's parents IF the child knocked him down on purpose. Accidents happen (which I realize is why people have accident insurance), but if the school wasn't being negligent, I don't see bothering with getting the school to pay for it. Besides, can you imagine all the red tape you'd get tangled in trying to get the insurance to cover it?

Can anyone tell me anything about Dental Plus ?

My daughter needs braces. Our insurance does not cover this service. I read today that there is a program that costs about $20 a month and covers up to 50% of the cost of orthodontics. There are several participating orthos in my area. Has anyone else used this ? I am always leary of stuff like this, but braces are so expensive I'm looking at all my options.
--------------------
I paid only $2000 for my braces when I was originally qouted $4500, and then worked out a payment plan with the orthodontist. All because of this great plan I have: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago and they have saved me thousands since on all dental services. They even had my very affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. I believe prices may vary where you live, but the savings are incredible. Good luck and hope this helps.

Do you really need a second molar? Is it worth the money to have it replaced?

I had my lower right 2nd molar extracted last month and am going to have the lower left 2nd molar extracted as well. One of the uppers 2nds needs a crown, the other upper a filling. The dentist recommended getting an implant to replace the two lower missing teeth, but my insurance will only cover the crown and not the titanium post or ( will cost about 5000-6000 total for both which my insurance will cover at most 1000). My insurance also caps out at 1000 so my normal dental work will fill that anyway so I am really looking at 5000-6000. I am 32 and going to the dentist from here on out. Better late than never I guess. I have been eating just fine without it am wondering if it is really necessary. I don't have a gap as it is my furthest back tooth. I am thinking a more cost effective way to handle this is to have have the other lower pulled and let them be for now. no implants. When the time comes, have the uppers extracted. This would leave me with 24 healthy teeth.
