is dental insurance worth the money?

I need to have a 2 teeth bridge put in and some other work done. I went to Queen Elisabeth Hospital today because my surgeon reffered me ( have got facial paralysis on left side) . I went to the dentistry dept and was told every thing I need doing, and then the dentist told me that they can't do it and my NHS dentist has to do it. Problem being is that my NHS dentist won't do the work on the NHS!! I want to know if dental insurance is a good idea or whether because it is a pre existing condition it wont be covered. Please help, beside myself as my smile is shocking anyway, just want to make it as good as it can be. I have had this problem for 12 years and am 'only' 35!

I would encourage you to visit this great site healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 6 years ago and they have saved me thousands of dollars over the years on all procedures. From root canals, xrays, exams, extractions...even my braces were covered. They even had my very affordable benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and hope this helps.

Help with dental insurance?

My wisdom teeth are starting to come through, and i will need them removed. My job does offer dental, but from what I hear it's crap, and aflac is way too expensive. I'm not too great at choosing insurance, I don't know a thing about it; So looking for some help here. What would be my options as far as dental, something not too expensive, but also something that will cover a good portion of any oral exams or operations. I know I have to keep a plan for a while before I can receive benefits towards operations, and that's fine, my teeth aren't going anywhere and growing in painstakingly slow.
--------------------
I have a terrific dental plan that I found after months of searching and comparison shopping. Try to avoid dental discount plans or indemnity plans, they cannot guarantee what kind of discount you will get and they are usually a sham. Mine is a comprehensive plan that offers the same coverage for groups as well as individuals. It has no network, so you can see any dentist you want, and it has NO WAITING PERIODS for services, diagnostic, preventative, basic, major, etc. You can get it for under 30 bucks a month, and you can apply online at www.BestForLessDental.com~ another cool thing about the plan is it has a 100$ deductible that you only have to meet once, not every year, and it has an annual benefit of $1,250 bucks. much higher than anything else I found.

How does dental insurance work?

I am interested in getting my own dental insurance through Delta. Im covered under both my parents. However neither one of theres covers ortho after the age of 18. Im 19 and a full time student. Delta has a individual PPO plan in Cal. It has a prepaid annual premium of $100. There are also NO waiting periods. My question is if I pay the annual premium, what else would I have to pay to receive the ortho coverage? It just seems too good to be true, that I only have to pay a $100 a year and Delta would pay over a thousand dollars towards my braces. Is this true? Please help! Please dont tell me to call. I have and I guess Im just not easily trusting. I dont want to pay the hundred bucks and then have them try to get out of helping me. Then Ill be stuck with THREE standard dental plans.

Corporate-transferring health/dental insurance into spouses name?

My husband and I have worked at the same corporation for the past 11 years. Our health/dental insurance is in my name since I make slightly more than him. I am thinking of quitting since childcare is becoming unaffordable and it make more sense for me to stay home with our child. My concern is health insurance coverage. How long would it take for the insurance to transfer into my husband's name? I don't want to be without it in case anyone of us becomes sick. It would be hard for me to speak to someone in our Benefits department since a buzz would start with my question and I haven't made any real decisions yet. Any information out there?
--------------------
No, you don't have to wait until November. Losing coverage, by you quitting your job, is a "qualifying event" for your husband, and he can change his insurance election. The link below is to the applicable law. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance

HELP!! Explain my Dental Insurance? w/ details?

Ok so I have an dentist appointment of Thursday for a regular check up, I havent been to the dentist in a couple of years (no more than 3) the dentist I use to go to closed or moved - so i'm going to a new dentist on Thurs. I have only asked for them to do a regular check up to see if I need my wisdom teeth extracted (which I will) and to see if I need any other work done (which I do) but right now the main thing is to remove my wisdom teeth.. so I spoke to the dental assistant and she said they will do X-Rays & etc. due to me being a new patient Anyway just on Thursday according to my employers insurance policy below how much will I be paying that day?? and how much will I pay when I do return to have my wisdom teeth extracted?? what is the $75 deductible fee for? and when do I pay? I am the only person on my dental insurance and like I said I have only asked for a check up on Thursday so that the dentist can tell me what I need to have done.. and hopefully set up an appointment for next week to have the wisdom teeth get removed...... thanks for your help Coverage Type: Type A: Preventive Cleanings, Oral Exams, Fluoride Applications, X-rays, Bitewing X-rays Type B: Basic Restorative Fillings, Extractions, Oral Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Periodontal Maintenance, Sealants, Space Maintainers, Anesthesia, Emergency Palliative treatment, Injections of antibiotic drugs Type C: Major Restorative Consultation, Implantology, Relining and Rebasing, Bridges & dentures, Crowns/Inlays/Onlays, Repairs of dentures, crowns, inlays, and onlays, Prefabricated stainless teel crown. Type D: Orthodonthia So the company pays: In Network: Type A: 100% of Fee Type B: 80% of Fee Type C: 50% of Fee Type D: 50% of fee Deductible applies to type B and C services only. Individual - $75 Family - $225 Annual Maximum Benefit Per Person - $1,000
--------------------
According to your description you should not have to pay for the first dentist visit, it would be covered under the type A . Then when you go to the Oral Surgeon (if that is where you go for your wisdom teeth) your deductible will apply there. When you go in for your consultation they will know exactly how much you will have to pay and it should be 20% of the fees plus your $75.00 deductible. That means the insurance will pay the Oral Surgeon $75.00 less than the full 80%. You should not have to pay anything until you go in to actually have your teeth pulled, unless your dentist does anything that is in the type B category (like fillings). But they will tell you before they do anything that will cost you. Hope that helped. And make sure that any dentist that you see is in your network. It is a lot cheaper. I am sure they asked you about your insurance when you made the appointment. Also remember the $1000,00 limit per year. Get the most important things done first and keep tract of how much you still have available, you can call your insurance company to find that out.

Need dental work, but I don't have insurance?

I haven't been to the dentist in a few years and now I really need to go. I probably have at least a few cavities and may need some crowns and/or root canals. I don't have any dental insurance so I would like to pay as little as possible while at the same time getting quality care. Can anyone recommend a good dental discount plan or dental insurance plan that I could buy that would take effect immediately? I also need to find a good dentist locally (Austin, TX) - so can anyone recommend a dentist or tell me a good place to look for one online? Thanks.
--------------------
you can actually check with your local university, If they have a dental program you can actually save big bucks with opting for this alternative. its the same type of treatment you would get at a regular dental office but the catch is you are being treated by a student. the students are carefully supervised by dentists so rest assured! you wont be some lab rat :o) I would call asap b/c they do have a waiting list and sometimes it will take a couple months before you can go in. You can also check your state dental page they may have recommendations. I found this website http://www.fcresidents.org/index.php?opt… they have offices which offer sliding scale. they base it off your income. these also tend to be pretty booked so if you go that route remember to call asap :o) I too dont have dental insurance and I know how much it sucks to pay full price for dental work.

His insurance only covers half of the work needed... Can I add him to my dental insurance after the diagnosis?

My fiance just went to the dentist. His dental insurance only cover's half of the cost of the work he needs. If we get married through the court this week, and I am able to add him to my dental insurance, will my insurance cover the other half? Or will they deny it because it has already been diagnosed making it a "pre-existing condition." Anyone have any answers or advice? We're trying to save for our wedding in just a few months, and I'd MUCH rather get married sooner and save the $1000 we'll have to spend to get his dental work done with his insurance alone.

does tricare/united concordia insurance dental insurance cover oral surgery and orthodontics?

i am 21 and my husband is joining the army sometime next month. when i was a kid, my dad was a staff sgt (E6) and i was under the impression tricare paid for EVERYTHING. but now i am hearing otherwise. i need a lot of dental work done soon. i have cavities that need to be filled, i have impacted wisdom teeth and i need oral surgery for that, and i need braces (dentist said they are necessary, not cosmetic). will i be able to immediately be on his insurance when he leaves for basic? will the insurance pay for any of my dental needs. i need all this done asap. thanks.
--------------------
Sadly the Tricare United Concordia dental insurance doesn't cover everything, you actually do have to pay a pretty big cost share. I signed up about a year ago, if you do it online you have to fill out a lot of info bout your spouse and wait for them to mail you a confirmation after they check your info. I think the cut off was like the 20th of the month, if you sign up on the 21st or later you have to wait until the next month til your coverage can take affect. They might not approve you until he gets out of basic as a graduate (just in case he purposely went and fails just so you could of got that coverage for those 2 months.) My husband is active duty (E6), I had oral surgery done (wisdom theeth removal), United concordia paid 40% ($600), I had to pay 60% ($700). As person said above, they do pay $1500 for braces MAX. Doesn't matter how necessary they are. I got braces put on and its pretty much purely cosmetic, they are paying the $1500, I had to pay the rest ($1900). I heard though that if your over 23 they wont pay any orthodontist treatment, so just make sure you visit an ortho asap to get started before then! Have fun being a military spouse :) It gets hard, but don't worry, there will always be other spouses around to help.

I don't have dental insurance and need gum tissue graft!?

How safe and common is this procedures? From what l've read,it's scary ...stitches,pain killers, swollen. What are the side effects? What's the best options for me? I had the assumptions that dentists that participate in insurance plans/dental groups are not going to be very decent. They charge at a discounted prices, why would a good doctor charge less. What about groups like Western Dental? Are they dependable? How are the dentists going to treat me if they find out l don't have insurance? Dental school is out of the question, the closest one is 6 hour drive.
--------------------
I was going to mention dental school until I saw your last sentence. I had 5 gum tissue grafts done at a dental school for $300 each. I had dental insurance, but I'm a healthcare teaching assistant and I enjoy having students practice on me. In the gingival graft procedure, tissue is excised from the roof of your mouth and stitched onto your gums. My thoughts on my 5 procedures: 1. Even after the "numbing shots", the excision of tissue from the roof of the mouth burns a little during the procedure. 2. The "numbing shots" themselves, of course, hurt. 3. The grafts feel bulky. You must fight the urge to stick your finger in there and clear all that bulky junk out. 4. The gums around the donor site must be flayed raw so they will accept the tissue. 5. My grafts were done one at a time. 6. One of my grafts failed. A student broke off a stitch in my gums and had to dig it out, causing swelling and lack of circulation to the graft area. 7. Painkillers are your friend. There is much pain for about 24 hours afterward. 8. Depending on the cause of your gum recession, the grafts may need to be redone after a period of about 10 years. If the original cause (i.e., crowded teeth, bad hygiene) isn't resolved, the gums may simply recede again. One source for your questions about which dentists to choose and what prices may be is the American Dental Association http://www.ada.org/public/index.asp. This may save your having to call dentists to find out their prices and whether they will even accept a noninsured patient without payment in advance. Yes, dentists who participate in insurance plans/dental groups have discounted prices. They even have to "write off" some of their charges. Some insurance companies say, "We will only pay (this amount) for (this procedure)" and the dentist simply has to accept that amount. I have always had dental insurance and have never had bad care from any dentist. Please try contacting the American Dental Association.

If I started a plan with Western Dental already then get dental insurance would it help out?

I started a plan with Western Dental when I got my cavities filled and have been paying $120 a month for it (no thanks to my Mom) because I have no insurance. Now that I got a promotion at my job I can get some dental insurance. Would getting dental insurance at this time help take out a chunk of my current bill with Western Dental? If not, should I still get dental insurance since I will be needing braces? (Defiantly won't be going back with WD though.)

no. it will not cover any service done prior to getting the coverage. most plans do not cover braces. check with your benefit rep or h r department.

13+ Cavities. I have dental insurance, but no money. HELP.?

I've been suffering from tooth decay since i was little. I brush and floss constantly but i always have cavities. My family is deep in dept and we have no money to take me to a dentist. I have dental insurance through my dads work, but no money to pay what it doesn't cover. I have over 13 cavities and i've recently started experiencing pain in one side of my mouth. Is there any place that i can go? Most places that offer low income or free dental care require you to have no insurance. Which i have. Or require you to have a low enough income, which my dad may exceed. Like i said, we're in deep debt. I may need one or more root canals along with fillings. Please, someone help. I'm in pain. Dental schools wont work. I can not arrange a ride to get there and back and i don't even know if they'll accept me. They also require you to submit an application, which can take up to THREE months to be looked over. I don't have that kind of time. I live in Cartersville, GA. I'm willing to drive to Atlanta if thats what it takes.

idk how old you are, but either you or your parents can get CARE CREDIT card. its a kinda like a normal credit card, but with higher limits, no interest, and VERY LOW monthly payments. i got it for my braces and i have horrible credit. and i mean horrible. my braces cost 4,500 after insurance, and my monthly payment is only $60.00. heres a link to it. www.carecredit.com

I have no money and no insurance ***DENTAL***?

I had two teeth that were both in need of a root canal. I could only afford to have one tooth taken care of, they put me on Care Credit and I am paying that off gradually each month. Now the other tooth is acting up and this morning I woke up with some swelling around the face. This tooth also has an abscess, I have no money and I also have no insurance and I don't know what to do now. There are no dental schools in the area, 1800Dentist acctually told me that they have no idea what I should do, and when I try to sign up for dental insurance I get the run around pretty hardcore. I was in the military, but the VA says that they will not work on your teeth unless that was the reason you were released from duty. Which it wasn't, i served my full time. Shouldn't it be easier for a veteran to get dental coverage! Anyway, no one will help me and I am this close to just preforming some sort of dentistry on myself. What should I do?

How much does dental insurance cover for wisdom tooth removal?

How much of the total fees will my dental insurance cover for getting a couple wisdom teeth taken out? I know it can vary, but I would like a ballpark estimate. I know it's 150 per tooth for a normal extraction before insurance, which isn't horrible... but it's twice as much if it requires a surgical removal. Which leads me to another question. When do they do surgical removals? Do the teeth have to be impacted? Mine are not impacted, but they are party covered by gums in the back (which is causing the pain that makes me want them removed). It still looks like they could get a grip on them though.
--------------------
Your medical insurance may also cover the costs of getting them out. It would say, "surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth". It sounds like you fall in this category. Good luck.

Where can i find cheap dental work in Southern California?

I'm under the age of 18 and my parents have horrible dental insurance. Their dental insurance covers less than 10%. I need to find a place that has rather cheap dental work, but not at a dental school. (I need a lot of work done). Thanks.

I would also recommend Mexico because ive been, although like anywhere else you must do your due dilligence. and get recommendations before you decide.I managed to save around 90% of what it would have cost me. I had 28 top quality porcelain caps/crowns at a cost of $2400 Quite a saving on the $36,000 i was quoted at home. For more info see below. Hope this helps

Will my dental insurance cover the cost of fillings for my cavities?

I have a couple cavities and will be going to the dentist this Monday. I have Tricare as my dental insurance. They cover: diagnostic and preventative services, basic restorative services(fillings) and other surgeries. This is what it says on their site and I just want someone to make this clear for me. Do I have to pay 20% of the cost or is is that only for requests? Resin/Composite Fillings Cost-Share Under the TDP program, basic restorative procedures (fillings) have a cost-share of 20 percent for the member with United Concordia paying the remaining 80 percent when the care is received from a TDP network provider. The most common materials used for fillings are amalgam (silver) and composite resin (tooth-colored). What is Covered? Under the TDP, the covered benefit for posterior (back) fillings is amalgam (silver). If the dentist and member select resin for back teeth fillings, the member must pay the difference between what the silver fillings would have cost and how much the resin costs. Resin fillings are covered for anterior (front) teeth only. For example, a family member needs a filling on a back tooth. The dentist places a silver filling at the allowable reimbursement rate of $100. Under the TDP, United Concordia pays 80 percent or $80 cost-share and the member pays a 20 percent cost or $20 cost-share. If the dentist places a resin filling on a posterior tooth at the member's request and bills $140, United Concordia still pays only $80 (the 80 percent cost-share for a silver filling). The member now pays $60 (the $20 cost for the silver filling and the additional $40 in billed charges).
--------------------
Yes you pay 20% unless you get a white filling on a back tooth, if you decide to get a white filling on a back tooth you will have to pay 20% plus the difference in cost between the silver filling and the white filling.

Is a root canal considered "dental surgery" according to dental insurance companies?

I'll try to make this short. I was covered by my mom's insurance when I was in school and had to get a dental onlay because I had a major cavity that came on in a very short time between cleanings. I went through a period of being uninsured then I started coverage on myself through my work as of January 1st, and in the time that I was uninsured like late in the last year, my onlay became loose. It doesn't bother me at all but I'm going to go back to the same dentist that did that procedure because luckily I can do that with my new insurance. However, I'm afraid that if the cavity progressed to far I may need a root canal. My insurance says it covers 80% on the following: fillings, minor restoration, endodontics and dental surgery. It covers 50% on crowns, dentures and partials. In general is the root canal treatment included in dental surgery? (I know the crown is separate/not included) Thanks... I'm asking because I'm having issues with the website and the 1-800 automated line only gives me basic info on my coverage, like what I told you above.
--------------------
My insurance says it covers 80% on the following: fillings, minor restoration, endodontics and dental surgery. Ok to answer your question quickly, you already answered your own question since a root canal is known as endodontic therapy it is not surgery but is part of endodontics which your insurance company stated it covers 80% of. So be prepared to pay about around 150 to 200 dollars depending on how much your dentist charges for root canals and the difficulty of the case. Also even if the decay is deep it might not need a root canal only a dentist can confirm such a diagnosis and until then I would not worry too much. hope this helps, 3rd Year Dental Student, Future Endodontist

Dental Problem and No Insurance!?

I have an impacted wisdom tooth and it's causing me extreme pain. The tooth itself isn't, it's the gum around it. I can't eat hardly and it hurts to open my mouth. I live in Sumter, Sc and none of the doctors will take me because I don't have dental insurance or a large amount of money to pay at once. Also a few of the have something call carecredit, well I've been turned down by that. I will go to Columbia, SC if I have to. Can anyone give me advice? Only serious people please answer, I'm in pain and do not feel like reading dumb answers. Thank You.
--------------------
It's infected. To help relieve some or all of the pain I would suggest the following: 1 teaspoon of baking soda + 1 teaspoon of salt + small amount of water = paste you rub that on and around the gum area where it is infected. You can also try swishing warm salt water around your mouth a few times daily as this will help as well. If you are not allergic to bananas I would also recommend eating those as well since they are a natural form of penicillin which will help kill your infection. I hope this helps you out a bit until you can find a better solution to have it pulled. I don't live in the US to offer any valued dental referrals on your current situation although I did come across this : http://www.discountdental4u.net/ASAP2.htm?source=SP_aetna I thought it may help your situation. Is there a really good dental insurance out there that covers implants and bridges?

My current insurance only covers $1500 a year of dental procedures... I think. It's Delta Dental and provided through my employer. I pay about $2 a week for it. As of right now, I am going to need either implants or bridges to replace four teeth, all molars. I do NOT want any embarrassing dentures or obvious dental work that everyone will be able to pinpoint. My dentist is regarded as one of the best in the area from what I hear, and offers all the state of the art procedures. Unfortunately, from what I've been reading, it seems that to replace four teeth, I might be looking at a dental bill in the neighborhood of $10,000. I could afford that, if it's in a payment plan over a few years... even at 4 years, that's like $200 a month... very expensive.

Is there ANY insurance that will cover my particular dental work?

I am 23 and have had crooked teeth all my life, I finally saved up 5-6k to get braces started, but the orthodontist dropped a bomb on me and said I needed oral surgey, 30,000 dollars worht of it. I got a second opinion and it was about the same. My insurance is Aflac and they won't cover it because they consider it cosmetic surgery, but I have never been confident about my smile and it has always held me back in everything. I was so excited about finally getting them started and now I am back to square one. My teeth are not mildly crooked, they are very very out of place and on top of that I have a severe and uncomfortable overbite, to assume this is just for cosmetics is retarted to me. Someone please tell me there is an organization or insurance or something anything that can at least help me get started, I'm a college student so going into more debt is not a fun idea to me, Thanx for any answers.
--------------------
Yes there is. I paid only $2000 for my braces because of this great plan I have. www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now when I was in college and they have saved me thousands on all services. From my braces, cleanings, xrays, exams..etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. My benefits were even active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day.
