Is this a trick or what? Oral Surgery Registration Clerk didn't include my claim from dental insurance?

Is this a trick or what? Medical registration clerk gave me a form of estimated treatment cost and under the "arrangements for payment" it says "amount to be paid on day of treatment of $____. It seems like she didn't calculate my insurance coverage. Then I was like hm... expensive. Then she said oh I will be writing a letter to the insurance company know that it will cover your cost. The thing was I signed the paper it said "I understand and agree to the above arrangements". I don't even know the exact cost of my wisdom teeth extraction. Before I signed the paper, the lady told me that oh you signed it to make sure that you've review it. I will call you in a week to let you know about it. I don't think it should take a week for it to complete, should it? I feel so stupid in a way that I signed the paper. Please advice!
--------------------
What the receptionist is trying to do or say is... She will be submitting a Pre-Auth to your insurance company. They will send you and the dental office a copy of what they will pay for your extractions. Generally, and I say generally they cover 80% of the fees that your dentist charges. Also, if the insurance company thinks your dentist charges too much, the ins comp will tell you what their allowance is for your extractions and then they will pay 80% of their fee schedule. You will be responsible for your deductible if it has not be satisfied as well as the 20%.I hope this has helped you to understand. Good Luck!

Average cost for dental bonding per tooth?

I know it depends on how much work needs to be done but say you already have good teeth and not much work needs to be done and you're just getting them to change the tooth shape or whatever... Like me I want to bond my four front top teeth... roughly how much would it cost in that case? I don't have dental insurance through my work yet... can I pay with cash or is that not allowed?
--------------------
About $350 per tooth is a rough guess. And you can pay cash. Some dentists will even give you a discount for doing so.

How can i claim from my insurance co for dental work required as a result of a broken jaw?

Hi - when on a trip to Bolivia in February '09, i was in a cycling accident which resulted in me breaking my jaw in 4 places and breaking a number of back teeth. I was in hospital for a week and had an operation to fix my jaw. Because i wasn't physically able to open my mouth for the dentist to repair the damage done this work was not carried out. The insurance company i am with informed me they would cover the costs of ALL work required. After a week they advised i travel back to Ireland (as travelling on would mean they wouldn't cover me for any additional damage i might do to myself) On travelling home i visited my dentist however as my jaw remained to be wired shut there wasn't anything he could do to help. He advised in writing that i should get treatment as soon as i arrived in Sydney. I visited a dentist on numerous occasions since arriving in Sydney and he drafted up a dental report stating quite clearly what work i require, all of which is as a result of my cycling accident. When i mentioned this to my insurance company they kept saying because i travelled home this ended the cover on my policy. I have been trying to argue the point i only travelled home becuase that is what they told me to do - but that they had already agreed to cover ALL costs (they were aware at the time that i required extensive dental treatment) The dentist in Sydney has estimated this is going to cost in excess of $35,000 to repair (broken roots etc...). What are my entitlements here? Although i travelled home - because of the nature of this case am i entitled to get the insurance company to cover my treatment?
--------------------
I've never heard of a clause that says you can't be covered because you returned home (although anything is possible and I'm not familiar with Australian insurance). I would have the dentist submit a pre-estimate of the work needed and be sure to include info that it was due to an accident (details and paperwork.) If you receive a denial then I would ask them to provide a copy of the exact wording in the contract that they are using to deny the coverage. Also see if you can be provided with a copy of the contract/policy. You might need to consult an insurance commissioner (if you have those) or whatever group oversees insurance. If you do so, be sure to have as much as possible in writing.

cheap dentist or good cheap dental clinics in south florida?

help! im in alot of pain i have 5 cavities. im 18 and i have no dental insurance! are their any free or cheap dental clinics or good cheap dentist in my area.ive looked everywhere i just cant seem to find anything
--------------------
Funding has been cut way back for free dental clinics in Florida. Along with everything else, it has been a victim of the recession. There are a few places left that will provide dental care for free (look up "Community Smiles") but the waiting list is unbelievable--over a year!!! If you have pain, you need to go to a dentist, and you need to do it now. Most dentists can work out both a treatment plan and a payment plan. They can fix the hurting teeth first, and then do the others later on. And for payment, many dentists will take payment over time, and others will work with someone like CareCredit, which will allow you to stretch out your payments. (See http://www.carecredit.com/) It really doesn't make sense to put off treating those cavities, or at least the bad ones. If you do, you may wind up needing a root canal, which is 10 times as expensive or more (literally). I wish I knew a terrific and inexpensive dentist, but good dentists usually aren't cheap, and cheap dentists (unless they are doing volunteer work for charity) usually aren't terrific. Just get recommendations for a dentist from friends, family, or coworkers, and work something out with him or her.

Chipped molar, no heath insurance what should I do?

My second to last molar on the left side of my mouth has been chipped for awhile, and today, while I was chewing gum, it chipped further. It creates a gap in between so food and such gets stuck in there sometimes, and now there is a sharp edge on one side. I don't have health or dental insurance. Is there anything I can do to fill the gap myself to at least prevent it from chipping further and getting food stuck in there? Or do I just have to suffer through and deal?

What is my primary insurance?

My company recently changed to Pacificsource for health insurance. But, we still use United Health Care for our dental insurance. I got a bill from my dentist, and on the back it says to notify them of changes in primary and secondary insurance. My question is this: Is Pacificsource now my primary insurance, and UHC my secondary? Or, is UHC still considered my primary insurance for the dental coverage, so that there's no need for me to specify in changes on the bill I will return? Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hello, by the statement you have written I can surely say that UHC remains your dental coverage. It seems that your company just changed who may be you medical insurance. The Dental and Medical are considered primary. Hope this helped...insurances can be very confusing!

--------------------
Dental Implantology is a fairly new area of dentistry and the costs are still high. As time goes on and more and more dentists are involved in these procedures, the cost will come down significantly. There has, in my opinion, been a tendency for certain practitioners to overcharge for dental implant procedures. There are two major costs involved in dental implant treatment. The first is the implant itself and the second is the restoration (tooth or teeth) that is anchored by the implant.

Dental insurance....?

I get SO angry at dentists and orthodontists. I have medical and dental insurance. Yet, it seems to me that dental insurance is a big rip-off. I can have extensive surgery and pay a $ 200 copay, yet to have a root canal, I have to pay over $ 1000. To have a simple tooth extraction, it costs (with insurance) around $ 100. For my husband to have bridgework, it is going to cost over $ 3000. Needless to say, I cannot afford for my children to get braces, even though they need them ($ 6000 a pop). Why are dentists so greedy - and/or - why is dental insurance such a rip-off? The only thing it really covers is free cleanings and a small percentage off of fillings. I mean, isn't it ridiculous that someone could have a leg amputated, a new prosthetic device put on, physical therapy administered, and it still cost LESS than a darn root canal? Come on! Anyone feel this way? Any dentists out there who would care to defend this position?
--------------------
Yes, It is a joke.....I couldnt agree more....But thats our government for you..USELESS... lets pay 14 yr olds $3000 to have a baby!!! .& wonder why the country is full of teenage dysfunctional families....Lets keep pokies, alcohol and smokes readily available even tho its destroying countless numbers of lives....Im not trying to defend anything.. merely point out a few things to those who may not be aware. To be fully covered for dental, you have to choose a certain plan. Chances are youll never get a full refund and you will end up paying 50 times more in insurance than medical work needed. They will always have some excuse not to pay you.... like having a 6 monthly checkup 2 days before your six months is up. Even though you are a prompt payer, pay thousands.. its 2 days?? but no....you lose. bad luck.... Why are you angry at dentists for not getting enough refund? Its not their problem. So many patients think its their god given right to get free treatment these days..why should a doctor, dentist or any other professional for that matter feel obliged or guilt tripped into dropping his prices cause you have 6 kids, are unemployed, or dont have insurance, (or do have insurance and they wont pay)? My dad always gets people saying ... Can you change the dates and item no's on my invoice so i get more back from my fund?.......No, thats fraud, and i will get struck off the register....If i pay straight away can i have it cheaper......NO, i expect you to pay now- you dont go to the supermarket and ask that! If i pay cash can i have it cheaper? No, it makes no difference to him if you pay cash, it still goes through the books and he explains its not fair on all the people out there paying to be in a fund.... (see someone is thinking of you!) Im sure they think hes a miserable tight old buggger , But its not his problem! They are there to provide an essential service to all those people out there, that cant be stuffed brushing their teeth properly! Then they have the hide to be upset they 'NEED WORK'...Dental funds are a mugs game! you are wiser to put the money aside. The funds wont even pay half of the treatment cost. It is not the 'solution to end all problems' its made out to be .Just like life insurance...after all you have to be almost dead before they will pay anything...You pay thousands a year to get piece of mind to receive jack shiit in return. Also it depends on who you talk to that day at the fund and what sort of mood she's in on how much you will get back. (believe me, Ive had many altercations on behalf of patients duped- with no joy whatsoever) When a fund says.. sorry that number doesnt exist!!! You ring us and say the number doesnt exist! did you put the wrong number on my receipt?......no,..... that means 'I'm sure the number exists, we just aren't going to re-imburse you for it.....sorry..... As for the dentists point of view..... most of them HATE the funds.. we spend the whole time with patients asking 'how much will the fund give me back'? (stuffed if we know, nor do we care...we want you to pay your bill and take the fund talk..to the fund! the funds are making it impossible for them and they lose patients everyday....because 'GB' fund says unless you go to their dentist of choice who is a 'GB' fund provider you will only get a minimum refund back. If you go to 'GB' dentist you will get %80 back.. so obviously most choose to follow "GB" fund.... little do they know......and as far as i have experienced the dentistry leaves a lot to be desired.. Most dental hospitals and fund clinics are full of new students from overseas... Theyll pull your teeth out before offering you the option of keeping it.. they dont do root canal, its too hard.. and youre getting it cheap, and you dont look after your teeth so why should they- thats the mentality.....if they do......hmm .. I recommend if you find a good dentist you trust?...pay his fee... happily! Its amazing how dumb some people are..... dont tell a dentist you hate him and hes a rip-off just before hes about to give you an injection..DERRRR.. Dentists on the other hand have spent 5+ years at university... thats a lot of fees, (most are still paying them off)a lot of hard work, alot of stress. The suicide rate in dentistry is EXTREMELY high. A very high percentage are HIGHLY addicted to their own happy gas tanks. I agree prices are high...(my dads a dentist, my grandfathers a dentist & ive been in it since 1994... I know how expensive they are. but did you know that dentist chair you sit in cost him about $75,000.00 YES that was not a typo. We wanted to move premises lately, he said...no I havent got $300,000 to do it. He had to be exaggerating. Surely... A syringe of tooth filling costs $156.00 The appointment book we write in costs $50 The rent is $3000 a month, wages are $2000 a week,min.. My boss doesnt know this yet, but this month I have ordered approx $8000 worth of stock. He will craap himself. I dont waste money either. I only get what we need, and i stock up on specials. Every order i do, I save $500 more for him compared to previous nurses. Those cheap plastic sunnies they make you wear cost $40.....why? because dentists need them, and the dental companies know they have the upper hand. If you want to blame someone for the high prices Id start with the suppliers. The nice man that comes to pick up all the sharps and syringe waste..... 2 tiny little plastic containers...$100+. Yearly autoclave tests and services $300..mandatory... Yearly electrical testing of all powerpoints $250. New carpet $3500. It costs us $30 per patient. Just with you sitting in the chair, not even opening your mouth..The plain plastic contraption on the bench that mixes the impression material, I wanted to get one... they cost over $2000.00... You want to complain about prices? Come spend the day with me looking through the product catalogues..$100 for a pair of surgical scissors...$150.00 for a bag of fluoride trays...you know the ones you all complain about having in your mouth..Every time you get a crown, we have to pay the nice man $400 to make it. Those fancy xray machines $60,000.00+ Mine pays $100,000.00 a year on wages. He works 6 days a week. He just wants to retire, but he cant afford it.... go figure! We dont have eftpos and everyone complains? How does 'me' manually swiping a credit card affect them? See they complain when we dont have all the fancy stuff, but complain louder when we do..All you patients that dont turn up, or cancel that morning... we had 2hrs put aside for your crown prep and you have a headache and dont think 'you're up to it today.' My dentist doesnt charge a cancellation fee, but im working on it.....Patients rock up 20 minutes late for a 30 minute appointment... oh sorry, couldnt find a park, had to get little johnny something to eat first.. he was hungry!...Excuse me? Then they are offended when i say with a smile.... 'Sorry, we will have to reschedule your appointment. The Dr cant see you now....What? horror, disbelief, do you know the hassle i went thru to get here? No.. I dont, and i dont care. Get a babysitter next time and be thankful i dont give you a minimum $50 bill for WASTING OUR TIME!!!! as for the mums that turn up expecting me to day care their kids! Hello? again....get a sitter! IM BUSY! My dad suggested i got my degree and took over his practice! I just laughed and said NO THANKS! he couldnt believe it.. what an opportunity for me? I Dont like being stressed. Dont like owing money, wouldnt like patients telling me they hate me and dont want to be here...everyday... how depressing! No wonder they are all committing suicide... all those years of stress and study? You can make more these days being a tradey....sparky...plumber... Its not the medical professionals you should be venting your anger at... sometimes its nice to understand & appreciate the 'other side of things'.

In the u.k, is private medical/dental insurance worth paying for?

Do you get a better, more efficent service?
--------------------
you dont necessarily get a better service cos lets face it the NHS at its best is hard to beat - ie I am referring to our hard working nurses and doctors. Unfortunately it is straped for cash. Private you often get the same specialist on NHS and private - but private means you can get treated immediately. My dad needed heart surgery and the waiting list was 18 months long, it took a lot of thought, and he still felt bad about it, but he had insurance and decided to go private. He was back at work well within 18 months, and they discovered a complication that could well have killed him if he had waited that long. Shame on the powers that be that have destroyed our NHS.

Question about which insurance should be billed?

My husband had a surgical procedure to remove a malignant tumor on the floor of his mouth. During this procedure his oral surgeon worked with the ENT surgeon and removed all his teeth as a precaution and part of his medical treatment. We learned that his dental insurance, rather than major medical, was billed for this service, maxing out the dental benefits for that year, and leaving us with a rather large bill from the oral surgeon. My question is should the oral surgeon have submitted this to the major medical insurance, as it was a medically necessary procedure that occurred during a surgery? The oral surgeon actually billed for each tooth removed as if it were a separate office call for each extraction, close to $150 per tooth. Another question, it has been over a year since this operation and billing, can I still ask the oral surgeon to request payment from the major medical insurance? Or am I stuck since I waited so long to take action on it? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
--------------------
Most services that are considered 'medical' should go to the medical insurance first and dental would apply as secondary (if at all). Sometimes they will cover all but the tooth removal. It depends on the exclusions of the plan. Has it been too long? Depends again on the exclusions of your insurance plan. You should contact your customer service and see what their timely filing guidelines are. Some have 1 year, 2 years or even specific months. Also, you can ask that because it was was sent into the Dental, if that could be considered timely filing (some plans may allow a filing with another insurance company proof of timely filing).

Does anyone know how I can get private health insurance?

I can purchase it through work but I was told to shop around a bit. I need medical insurance and dental would be nice. Anyone know of any websites?
--------------------
Contact a local independent agent. If you want maternity, chances are the group plan will be better. However, depending on the average age and medical conditions of the group, you may be able to cut the cost in half by going out on your own. That will vary from state to state and group to group also. A local agent can help you. Get the info on the group plan (outline of coverage) and the cost so they can see what they can do for you on an individual plan that is comparable to the group plan. You are making a wise choice by checking out your options. Keep in mind that the group plan is most likely paid in part by your employer. Compare what your actual costs will be.

As far as health insurance is it best to get the highest or lowest deductible.?

I trying to apply for health insurance but i can't find anybody that covers everything as far as dental and life insurance for a reasonable price.I also want to know if it's best to get the highes deuctible or the lowest ar far as health insurance. And does anybody know any good providers?
--------------------
Apply for health care insurance separately from dental insurance to get the best deal. There is no such thing as a combination health insurance/life insurance to my knowledge. If you are young and healthy, choose the high deductible plan because your premiums will be much less. Meanwhile, it's very important that you take the savings from the lower premiums and set these aside in a savings account just in case you need to pay the deductible. Check into a Health Savings Account (HSA). This is a tax-advantated savings account that you can use to pay the deductible. You must have a tax-qualified high deductible health care plan in order to have the HSA. Your contributions to the Health Savings Account give you a tax deduction, and your earnings are tax-free. You can also use the HSA to cover dental expenses, whether you eventually get dental insurance or not. If you are young and healthy and you take good care of your teeth, you may be better off just using the HSA to pay for your dental. However, one benefit of having dental insurance is that the insurance company negotiates a lower price with the dentist, and that will save you money. Regarding life insurance, apply with a highly rated company (you want them to be around for awhile) such as Metropolitan or New York Life. Choose "term" insurance for the lowest rates. The agent may try to convince you to choose whole life or universal life, which is just life insurance combined with an investment. If you have extra money to invest, keep that separate from your life insurance, and just choose term life insurance. Go for the longest term you can get - if you're young, that should be at least 20 or 30 years. Otherwise, you'll have to renew your term at a higher age, and your premiums will be rated to your age at that time.

Do I have to worry about the 63 days time limit for pre existing coditions for Dental plans

I recently left a job and my employeer warned me that I have 63 days to get an insurance policy otherwise pre-exisiting conditions clauses would kick in. So I diligently got my medical insurance. My question is how does Dental insurance work in this regard. Do most policies also have a 63 days no prexisting condition clause or do most have the usual "waiting period" regardless of the fact if you had insurance immediatly before, 63 days before or never before. I am trying to save some money and I had my teeth thoroughly checked right before I left my job, so I figure if it makes no difference why not wait at least 6 months until my next cleaning is due and THEN get dental insurance... But if it works the same way as Medical with the 63 days and pre exisitng condition issues and the health care crisis, maybe I should not risk it and get a policy ASAP. Any thoughts out there?

I have a chipped tooth on one of my two front teeth, and the partial has been on for 12 years. Needs to be fixed, it is turning a light shade of brown and decaying on the top corner. Willing to make payments! Want done ASAP!

Hi, i live just west of winston salem, near yadkinville and theres a dental clinic in yadkin county called WYO DENTAL CLINIC. Great people their. The only problem is they stay booked up! You have to call and ask the receptionist how long they are booked up. Tell her Melissa sent you!! I am having extensive work done there and i send both of my teenage kids there as well. We do not have dental insurance and they charge by a sliding scale fee, or they use to. I guess its still the same way. Hope this helps! Just don't miss your appointment!!!!!!

Will insurance still cover my braces?

I'm 18, just got braces and next year around June I plan to move a few states away to my mother's house. I live with my dad right now and his dental insurance covered what I believe the full amount for my braces. Once I move, will the insurance from my dad still cover the expenses of my monthly brace tightening? or will I have to pay for that myself?
--------------------
Honestly, you have to call your insurance provider. None of us know who you're provider is, and what their rules/regulations are. I don't see why they wouldn't. You're just moving... Ton's of people move. But usually, when you're 18, you're no longer covered under your parents insurance... At least where I live. Note: If your braces are already paid for at your orthodontist, than you will have a problem. You will have to pay your new orthodontist each month for tightening. I don't know how much it is where you live, because I don't know where you live, where you're moving to or your orthodontist.

I need a bridge for 1 of my teeth.Should I do it under a DHMO or a PPO plan under CIGNA dental insurance?

The DHMO plan has horrible dentists very far from me , but it costs only $800 vs a PPO plan which has great dentists close to me but it would cost $1,500 probably. What should I do? i cannot change to a PPO plan until next year.
--------------------
Remember you get what you pay for. an old dentist i knew once said "you can hide a multitude of sins in someone's mouth" I'd go to the "good" dentists and pay out of pocket, work overtime, do whatever it took. there is nothing more miserable than bad dental work and a toothache. There is a reason those people have the HMO plans, they can't get patients any other way!

well what i suggest would be knowing the office visit could be possibly between 80 to 300 dollars be prepared. Do understand every office is different i would call and ask them what the office visit would cost. Then usually a physician would know you are self pay and help you out with samples.

At what age should a person purchase Health/Dental Insurance?

I am a college educated professional who works within my very own corporation. As fabulous as that sounds It is pretty much ran by myself and one other member. I am young. In my early twenties and am trying to manage my life properly. I own real estate so I even have a will set up.....I do try to cut back on extra expenses whenver possible.....although I do have a passion for fashion.........now with all this un-needed information............what do you think a proper age would be to set up insurance for myself? I am unmarried....with no children. Do not plan on having any either. I do have minor problems such as problems in my lower back, knee, occassional cavities etc. Should I sign up? is this a waste of my money?????? ALSO: If I did have any medical problems..........that were costly......IE: 100,000.00----------IF i HHHHHHHHHHHAD TO...I could have it covered.......................... I believe they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... Please Help :)
--------------------
the best time for one to obtain health insurance is when you are young and have good health. it will be easy to get approved, the bills for the insurance is low... i would keep the insurance and maintain it.. once a person gets older and less healthy, the cost goes sky high and has limitations. i would also get life insurance when the bill is low. you will be glad to have it when you are older 50 plus.

Is there any way I can get dental work done in Iowa with no income or dental insurance?

I haven't worked for the past year. The local low-income dental clinic has been giving me the run around for a few months now. They need proof that I haven't worked for the past year, but the IRS and Social Security can't give me anything proving this until June or July at the earliest. The dental clinic is now telling me that I have to file taxes saying I didn't work. Then I have to wait for the IRS to send me back something saying they agree I didn't work. I've been missing a filling that is 1/3 of my tooth since October and now it's starting to hurt all the time. So how can I get this taken care of if the local low-income clinic won't help me?
--------------------
If there is a college with a dental school nearby you can get treatment for your tooth there without any paperwork or income qualifictions. The dental schools will take everyone without any qualifying and no or almost no charge. Make some calls and see what you can find out. Here is a link for the University of Iowa Dental School for patients: http://www.dentistry.uiowa.edu/public/pa…

What health insurance is recommended for a single dad with 3 kids, with a budget but have decent coverage?

I am a single father of 3 kids and looking for health/dental/vision insurance for my family. We don't really go to the doctor as much but still want decent coverage in case I need to do so. Any ideas? Am based in Southern California.

One through your employer. You can't get vision and dental that doesn't cost more than it pays, except through an employer group policy. Otherwise, just go to your local agent, ask them to give you a couple quotes on a private policy.

Does medical cover a bridge, porceline fillings? What other dental procedures will it cover? And where can i get this info/?

Medical insurance does not cover anything relating to teeth. You need separate dental insurance for that. (And if your regular doctor bills anything that is related to dental - it'll be denied.) Call member services (the number is on the back of your card) to confirm.

Long term unemployed...extremely depressed no medical/dental insurance?

Hi, I've been unemployed since October of 2008, when my company went under. I worked in urban development/commercial real estate. Because Im younger, 30, it is hard to get another role as the baby boomers are taking them in a small market. I already have a masters degree and dont feel like spending more money as Im already in debt. I apply for jobs daily online for about 5 hours, tried some networking. The places I applied for and got an interview with commented that I would just go back to my field once it picked up again, so Im kind of pigeon holed. I need shoulder surgery and to repair a cracked crown, but i have no insurance. Im on food stamps and my unemployment has stopped. I cant even get a Walmart job to get some income in. Can somebody point me in the right direction ? Thank you

I have an abscess tooth with no dental insurance plz help?

I get benefits in about 4 more months from my company but, I have an abscess tooth that is getting to the point to where its making my gums swell up slightly, I know i need to go to the dentist and have it pulled but i have some questions first! I know they won't pull it without clearing the infection up by giving me antibiotics, how would i get a prescription for that? Do i just go down there and ask the dentist? Would that cost me any money rather than the prescription itself? And how much does it generally cost to get a tooth pulled without insurance??? Thanks
--------------------
I'm in the same boat except I'll never get dental from work. The pain is horrible. My hub had an abscess tooth pulled. It cost $600.00 for his procedure which I can't pay. Anyway everyone will tell you to find a clinic. I wish you the greatest of luck. I've been actively searching for over a year. No one has yet to help me. If you are in pain, and like me can't find a dentist that is actually a caring human being, swish Vodka, take Motrin, and Sudafed for the pain. Sudafed might sound odd but I found out when I had a sinus problem it helped my toothache go away more quickly.

Can using a portion of my health insurance affect my dental insurance?

Well a few days ago i asked someone why they hadn't went to the eye doctor they told me the reason was their mother had recently had a root canal. She said she had to pay off the remaining balance of the root canal before the money would be available through her insurance to get him his glasses. Now we both felt that she just didn't feel like taking him to get glasses for other reasons such as saving her money to get a whole new tooth. Are we right to assume this mother is placing her needs in front of her child's or did her root canal really affect the chances of this young man getting his glasses?
--------------------
This is the first time ive heard about this situation. Most of the time, dental services are separate from your health insurance. In the 5 companies that i have worked for before, i had 2 separate cards - one for my health insurance and one for my dental needs. I can use as much of the benefits available on my insurance card and not worry about affecting my dental insurance and vice versa. I think it would be best if you contact your friend's mother and call her insurance company and inquire about it.

to see a dentist but have no insurance?

I have a terrible toothache but have no dental insurance and am broke right now. I think I will probably need an antibiotic as I am sure it is infected. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do for right now?
--------------------
Really the only way that you can get rid of a tooth ache is to visit your DDS. You can work out payment plans usually, but you really do need to get it fixed. If the tooth is infected, you will either need a root canal procedure or getting the tooth out, and it will be less and less hopeful for the tooth if you wait, so get there ASAP. It can really affect your health if you don't get it fixed, sorry. Good luck!

I'm looking for a BBB approved Dental Insurance plan--can anyone recommend one? I live in San Diego, CA...?

I am employed part time--EXTREMELY part time, so I'm not eligible for the greatest health benefits and I need a good dental plan. I am willing to pay a higher initial/annual fee to find a plan that will include lower co-payments and I would need them to cover or partially cover for sedation, as well. I know I need a lower bridge and I know I need a crown, too... I live in San Diego and I'm aware of the fact that Google would give me some answers. There are SOOOO many out there that I just wanted some opinions from people that have gotten a dental plan they're happy with so that I can make the decision a bit faster...
--------------------
I've never seen any private dental insurance policies that pay out more than they cost. And although they'll cover an anesthetic, for sedation, you need to file the claim on HEALTH insurance, if you have it. Anesthesiologists sedate. Dentists numb. Bottom line - your best bet is to find a dental school near you to get the work done cheap. You're NOT going to find private dental insurance to do that kind of work, without you waiting a year, paying 50%, and hitting a cap of $500.

77 Years old need help, No Dental insurance, No money to pay for tooth extraction?

I know a 77 years old male, he is a heart patient. All his teeth are rotten and he needs to have them removed. unfortunately, medicare doesn't cover it. He doesn't have money to pay for it. He lives in Fort Bend county in Missouri-city, Texas. Is there any dentist (individual or group) can help him? I have heard that Dental Schools in Houston area provide pro-bono services to low income families. Could anyone help him? any suggestion on this matter will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, You should call the health department in the area. They normally have a dental department that han help him with extractions and dentures. Medicare does not cover dentistry, but medicaid does. You may also want to look for dentists that are medicaid providers in your area. Hope this helps. Carlos Boudet, DDS http://www.boudetdds.com

Is this Dental Insurance any good?

Coverage from Genworth/Sunlife: 100% Preventive 90% Basic services 60% major Services
--------------------
Those percentages are based on 'usual and customary fees' and not the fees themselves. For example, if the visit for a filling was $100, you would expect the insurance company to cover $90, right? Nope, it would depend on the 'usual and customary fee' schedule they follow... it may end up costing you a bit more if the 'UCF' is $150.... Hope this helped.

Going to the dentist with no insurance?

I am almost positive I have a cavity :( But I have no dental insurance, what normally happens and how much do you think I will have to pay?
--------------------
As a dentist I can tell you that the cost of a filling depends on the depth of the cavity and the amount of decay associated. Talk with your dentist, he or she will usually be more than willing to help you set up some kind of payment plan. Another consideration might be to contact your local health department or department of family and childrens services, most county services in larger cities have a dentist on staff that provides dental care and little or no cost to the actual patient.

Why are there yearly limits on dental insurance?

Or rather... why aren't they higher? So my dental coverage is 1500 a year. I have at least 3 cavities, but i'm not sure. I'm also having my wisdom teeth removed (they cover 60% and I have to pay 600 still) If I have to pay 600 then they are paying more then that and that pretty much cut my yearly limit in half. Now I have a couple of fillings that i'm having some serious pressure pain. I'm sure there is decay underneith them and one is a very large filling. It's the one that hurts the most. My dentist at the time knew I was paying everything out of pocket so he made it a filling instead of doing a root canal, so i'm afraid that i'll need to get a root canal done at this point which means 1500 dollars worth of work and it'll hardly be covered because my limit is so little. :(
--------------------
They all have a limit on how much they will pay on a yearly basis. Their accountants have figured out the level they need in relation to the premiums they receive, so that the can make a hefty profit.

I chipped a tooth - no dental insurance - what do I do?

I just quit my job to go back to grad school and let my insurance lapse by less than 8 weeks. I just had xrays 6 months ago (full mouth) and everything was fine. Had a cleaning and a check up 10 weeks ago (because I knew I was quitting my job.) While eating a bagel a small piece chipped off the top of one of my bottom teeth yesterday. It doesn't hurt at all --- and it isn't even sensitive. I don't care what it looks like, as I have a slight overbite the covers it when I smile.....I just need to know if since it doesn't hurt if I will be ok --- at least for a few months until I can get myself "figured out" and financially on track. I am so annoyed, because this is the worst timing, my husband and I are in a transitionary period and we have almost no spare cash to deal with this. Thanks.

Medical Discount Plan ideal for those who cannot afford or qualify for traditional health insurance. The companies offer discounted health services for a quite low monthly fee. Benefits include a range of discounts for doctors, hospitals, dental, vision, prescriptions, vitamins, as well as other health services. Individual & Family Health Plans This is a major health insurance plan for individuals and families. If you are looking for comprehensive long term health insurance coverage for yourself and/or your family members who are 62 years old or younger - this is the plan to choose. Short Term Medical Plans This plan is ideal for individuals in transition. Maybe you have just graduated from college and are no longer covered under your student health insurance or you moved out on your own, and you're no longer covered under your parents' medical insurance plan. Or perhaps you're employed part-time, going to school, leaving home for the first time, or even retiring early. Maybe you've found a new job, but your new employer's group health insurance plan won't kick in until you've been with months. I have a question about dental insurance in FL.?

I'm currently 18 years old, I live in Gainesville and I have Medicaid. I have to have my front four teeth worked on and I have two choices: Having them removed and put a partial in, or having root canals done and have caps put on them. My problem is that I want the root canals done, but it'll cost $6560 at the dentist I'm seeing. I've had root canals done already that were paid for my Medicaid, but my dentist tells me that they won't accept Medicaid. =/ Is there anyone in my area that will do the dental work, or at least some of it, with Medicaid? Is getting a secondary dental isurance worth getting?

I have dental insurance through my work my wife also can get dental insurance though work for us my dentist told me i could get insurance through both and it wold help lower the cost of my bills is having two dental insurances worth it i have alot of work that needs to be done 2 root canals, 3 crowns, and 1 pulled one would pay 50 percent the other would pay 50 percent has any body out there done this before if so can you explain it to me thank you
--------------------
Just determine if what you will pay (premiums) per year is worth the yearly benefit the insurance company will give you. Make sure your dentist will accept it or you could be looking for a new dr to maximize your benefit. If it is affordable I strongly advise taking it. You can never have too much insurance. P.S. Make sure neither plan has a "non-dup clause" because if they do it means the 2nd ins won't pay if the 1st pays more than they allow and it will basically be worthless until you reach your max with the 1st ins each year

Received a letter in the mail about this insurance, which on the surface seems legit. You have to apply at their website (or by phone). I've never had to apply for insurance before, that's what has me wondering. They are a basic plan, thou cost is good, as is the deductible. Waiting periods between major services are lengthy (7 years between single crown/restoration after an initial 12-month waiting period). The company is underwritten by National Guardian Life Insurance Co. of Madison, WI. Has anyone had any experience with this company? Are they above board?

i currently live in CT and im looking for CT health insurance to cover dental, eye, hospitalizations, etc.?

i just want someone who lives in CT and has good insurance to kind of direct on what health insurance for ct i dhould use
--------------------
The best policy for your friend or neighbor may not be the best policy for you because everyone is different and most policies are different. You should visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can find the best policy for your situation and budget and you won't be charged any extra. Most health insurance has little to no coverage for dental and vision unless the treatment is medically necessary. Some do have dental and vision as an option but the coverage is generally poor or not cost effective. I'm a health insurance agent and I do not have the optional coverage even though my health insurance offers it. I use a fee for service discount plan which I got here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

What is a good dental insurance provider for a 22 yr old male in S. Illinois?

I live in Carbondale, Illinois. I live on my own. Work and go to school. I pay my own bills and tuition. Basically what I'm saying is that I don't have alot of extra money. All 4 of my wisdom teeth need to come out. And im looking for a simple, effective, and affordable insurance plan.
--------------------
You may be better off just paying cash. I have found that when a patient pays for insurance, they end up paying more for the insurance than what the insurance pays out. And they still have to pay the dentist what was not covered. That being said, it is not the insurance company that you need to look at, it is the individual plan. Insurance companies have many different plans to choose from. Pick the one that is the most affordable and the least restrictive. Also, make sure that there are not any waiting periods for major dental treatment or for surgical procedures. You sound like a very responsible and mature 22 year old. You should be very proud of yourself for doing what you are doing. Good luck to you

my wisdom teeth claim was rejected by my health insurance company my dental surgeons office appealed it not me?

why did the office appeal it and why would it be in the best instersts of the dental surgerys office to appeal
--------------------
It benefits the dental office to appeal a rejected claim because they have already done the work. If your insurance company verified that you had coverage for extractions, and then did not pay the claim, the dentist office has to resubmit all of the information with a narrative as to why the extractions needed to be done. Generally, if your insurance company still rejects payment for the claim, you will be liable for all of the charges incurred for that visit. It is wise to also contact your insurance company and inquire why the claim was denied so that you are clear on your benefits. You can also ask them to send you a copy of their fee schedule along with a break down of your benefits, That way you can also calculate what you will have to pay per visit, per procedure.

I got a root canal done on an abscessed tooth last year, about six months after I had enrolled, and had a crown put on it, and they refused to pay the dentist for it because it was a "pre-existing condition" when I signed up (for reference, the tooth had a cavity, but was not abscessed, when I enrolled). The dentist was very generous, and did not ask for me to pay the difference, but was not able to treat me anymore. I switched to another dentist, and it is about six months into my second year with Delta (continuously enrolled), and about three weeks ago, I had a root canal done on another tooth, which had some decay at the point when my first dentist looked at it a year ago, but was not even a cavity yet. I had a wisdom tooth extracted yesterday by a dental surgeon at the same office on Friday, and when I got home, there was a letter waiting for me from Delta, saying that they would not be paying my present dentist for the root canal, since there was evidence of decay reported by my previous dentist, and that these records had been passed on to my present dentist before they did the root canal procedure. Is this even legal? There was no way the tooth for which I received the most recent root canal was in any state of "pre-existing condition" when I initially signed up with Delta. Moreover, I waited to have the crown put on until I got the wisdom tooth extracted, and now I'm worried that the dentist will either refuse to finish the crown, or will do it, but that neither he nor the surgeon will get reimbursed for any of their work by Delta. Should I worry about Delta calling my wisdom tooth a "pre-existing condition" as well?

I need HELP- health and dental insurance won't cover me AFTER I asked and they said they would?

About 3 months ago I went to the dentist for the first time in about 7 years because I had been having horrible jaw pain and figured I had a bad tooth. Turns out, it was my wisdom teeth, which were fully impacted and developing cysts around them and deteriorating my jaw bone. My dentist told me I needed to get them out ASAP, and referred me to a maxillo facial surgeon. I called my insurance company first to make sure it was covered, they told me I would have to pay a $300 deductable and they cover the rest. So I went, had my teeth removed and went through the week of excrutiating recovery. 3 weeks later, I get a letter from my insurance company saying that it in fact will NOT pay for my wisdom teeth removal because it does not cover procedures done on NORMAL, HEALTHY, FUNCTIONING teeth (I do not understand how they were normal or functioning, but oh well) and that I owe this surgeon $1598. What went wrong and is there anything I can do about it? Who do I call? Thanks
--------------------
Yes, you can do something about it. Call your dentist office because apparently they coded the claim incorrectly. The insurance company doesn't know anything about your teeth; they just know what the dentist office tells them. The dentist will have to file the claim again.

What besides my insurance can save me $$$ at the Dentist?

Are there other plans for dental co-insurance that work WITH my dental insurance (EDS) to save my family money? Please leave links if possible.
--------------------
Some employers allow for money to be set aside from your check pre-taxed that you can use on any medical/ dental expense. This sometimes helps, but the best way to save money is to invest time in prevention and learning. Sonic Care or Oral B make very good brushes that seem expensive (~$100) until you think about how much you save by eliminating/ preventing one cavity ($200-$300 for a filling)

If you didn't have dental insurance would you...?

pay the $785 to put a crown on the fractured tooth, or just pull the tooth out?
--------------------
Pay for the crown. If you have the tooth extracted you may develop the followng problems: 1. the teeth beside the space may shift and lean into the void which will impact on their stability and your chewing ability and future options if you choose to replace the tooth with an implant or bridge in the future. 2. the tooth that occludes (bites) with the missing tooth may start to over erupt (grow up into the space) which will impact your bite and your options should you choose to replace the tooth in the future. 3. An implant to replace the missing tooth is probably 4 or 5 times as expensive as the crown 4. A bridge that crowns the teeth on either side of the hole and puts a "falsie" into the space is about 3 times as expensive as the crown 5. A denture is only 25% as effective at chewing as a natural or crowned tooth. Most dental offices will either offer you payment options or put you in touch with a financing company that can spread the payment pain out over a few months.

What type of insurance can help me save money on lingual braces/dental care? Please help

How would a 17 year old, almost 18 save a good bit of money on insurance that would pay for a good bit of lingual braces (braces behind the teeth) I know a lot of insurance plans only cover you until age 18, and if the braces would be kept from 17 until part of 18, they might not cover. Im thinking my braces will NOT be the average 1-2 year time. In fact its only about one or two teeth crooked, and the dentist said it might only take about 5 to 6 months before they are straight. But i would like braces behind the teeth instead of traditional braces, however they are more expensive. Is there any way an insurance plan can pay good amounts of money on the braces on a 17 year old? Please help Thank you

insurance policies are priced based on the assuption that most people will not claim. since you seemm certain to claim, it is unlikely to get anyone to cover you.

How the heck does dental insurance work?

I called my insurance company buy the lady I talked to sounded really confused. If she's confused, how is that supposed to help me??? I know it varies from plan to plan. Here is what I know so far: I have a $2500 maximum per calendar year. I have an "80%/20%" plan (???) My deductable is $300 (???) Here is what I don't get: I went to the dentist, my bill was $306, my insurance paid for all but $28 of it... if my deductable is $300, shouldn't I have to pay $300? I do not understand the 80/20 thing, if I have a deductable too. Anyone insurange brokers out there?
--------------------
You should pay the first $300, and 20% of the remainder. But with dental, there are some things that are covered, and some that aren't. Say you got a flouride treatment - that's usually not covere - you'd pay 100% of that. But usually the cleaning and exam is covered in full, not subject to the deductible.

Acscess tooth, no dental insurance, what do you recommend?

My husband has a back tooth that is broken and abscess. We know he needs to go see a dentist right away, but we dont have the cash to just walk right in and have it fixed. We have a dental plan but it doesnt go into effect until July 1st, 08. What other options do you think we have? I dont want him to keep suffering or something worse happen. And the detists that I have called wont tell me what it might cost because it depends on how bad it is....my husbands is bad. It is a broken tooth, they cant just pull it, they will have to cut it out I am sure.
--------------------
I just got a large, chipped molar right next to my wisdom tooth extracted and it was abcess as well. I have insurance, but it didn't cover much. The bill said the cost was $226 for the extraction, $30 for the novocaine, and $20 for the after care before insurance. Almost half of the tooth was missing and they were still able to pull it without cutting. They caught the abcess early but it was still abcess nonetheless. I live in Maryland, and I think your price might be much cheaper than mine even without insurance. If this still doesn't sound like it suits you, talk to different dental places about payment plans and I'm sure some of them will try to work something out with you. Definitely don't wait until July! I can only imagine what kind of pain your husband is in, I couldn't sleep for three days because of my pain and mine had only just started to abcess.

well i suppose you arent 18 yet so you cant apply for private health cover but it is really good for instances like yours, as if you need a whole stack of money to be paid relating to your health, its affordable and will pay it all for you.why are u paying for them anyway? well there isnt any possible insurance plan you can use at seventeen, period. to get it covered by insurance you would have to wait until you are 18 unfortunetely.

I will have dental insurance in two months, but I have a cavity now?

It's in my lower back left teeth. What should I do? My insurance will be activated in 2 months, (six months, but it's already been 4 months since I got my job). What should I do? I don't want to lose my teeth. My parents said they will not pay for it because it's too expensive. They said wait the two months, but I'm scared that the hole will get bigger and filled with more plaque which will result in root canals... I don't know what to do. Should I just stop eating or something?
--------------------
The best thing I advise is to make sure you are maintaining EXCELLENT oral hygiene. Brush your teeth after your meals, floss whenever you can, and use mouthwash. You can eat but there are certain food to stay away from. Don't eat anything to sticky or chewy, like taffy or gum. Sometimes teeth can survive years without turning into root canals but there are times that the decay inside the tooth is too sufficent and in that case the only way you can avoid a root canal is by have a filling placed in time. You need to maintain your oral hygiene as best as you can and wait until your insurance kicks in.

Is there any dental insurance that pays for crowns and root canals?

I went to a dentist to get a second opinion on my teeth. The first dentist, said I needed an implant where I now have a crown. The second dentist told me that this was not pressing at this time. However, the second dentist tried to tell me I needed 13,000 dollars worth of dental work including root canals, crowns and fillings. I have always taken care of my teeth, and gone to the dentist, twice a year. I am very upset and confused about this plan of treatment this dentist gave me. Any help from any dentists out there would be appreciated.

Where can a person go and find low cost dental services in North Texas?

I have a sibling who has no dental/health insurance (she works part time and goes to college), and she believes she has a couple of abscessed wisdom teeth. Does anyone know of a local dental professional or local health services (Denton or Collin County) which would provide low-cost (and/or payment plan) for dental care?
--------------------
You are asking the world when you should be asking around your town. Start by phoning your local dental school. They are always seeking patients for their students to work with. Ask at your local church. Call the county health services department. In the USA, counties typically manage health care services. And, of course, ask at the college! Students are always looking for low-cost health care (and not just contraceptives!), so the school will know who provides service in the community.

Dental Office Billing/Insurance problems...?

I had oral surgery in January 2009. The billing to me and to my insurance carrier has been hopelessly confused and confusing. Originally I was given and signed a "treatment plan" by the dental office that covered (and they acknowledged this) many possibilities for my oral surgery, most of which did not end up happening. At the time of the procedure I paid $244.60, my "co pay". What portions of my procedures this covered and how it breaks out has never been made clear to me. In fact, one person in the office today said that she wasn't sure where that amount came from! Over the next few months, I'd receive statements from the office with a large balance due, but none of these showed more than some small payments by my insurer, so I figured that the insurance payments just hadn't caught up. I called the dentist several times to ask what was going on, and was told that they still had to submit some documentation to the insurer. When I called the insurer, they would say that they were waiting for information from the dentist office. The Dental office put my account into collections in May, saying that I'd never contacted them regarding my account. This, however, is NOT the issue. I pointed out to them that I had contacted them several times, that at least part of my charges that had been denied by the insurer were being appealed and they ended the collection attempt. NOW, note that it's DECEMBER, the insurer keeps saying that they haven't gotten the documentation they need from the dentist, the dentist says that they have sent, again and again, the documentation the insurer is asking for and I'm at this point totally confused as to what I might actually owe. I have "account history" ledger printouts from the dental office that in one case does not agree with earlier copies of the same history (one amount has been changed). I'm not clear on what I'm supposed to be paying, since they've billed some items differently to me and the insurer. How can I get help sorting out what I actually owe? Thanks,
--------------------
I would say that it is up to your dentist to give you a complete brake down of the services and charges they are sending to your insurance company. Your insurance company is only going by what they get from your dentist. If your dentist is changing that all the time well I can see the confusion.. Tell you dentist you want the brake down it is your right to have it. Tell them you want them to list all the ADA Codes that they are billing your insurance company for and their cost. Knowing your ADA codes is the key to this mess. Number Do Not Change. How they may word things may. ADA codes tell everyone from the dentist to the insurance carrier what it is that you had done. Once you have that complete list call your insurance carrier get the name of the person you are talking to and try to only deal with one person. If they change people on you make sure you write down their name and any extensions they may have. Tell them you are going to fax the statement to them. And that you will be calling a back to confirm that they got your fax. That will stop them from saying to you that they did not get what the need. From there you can address what is and what is not getting covered under your plan. Address services listed on the billing by their ADA codes therefore there is no confusion on what it is you are talking about. If they say something is not covered like you thought it should be ask them were it shows that in your policy. (note make sure you have your policy when calling) Never raise your voice.. and try not to get upset. Showing them that you know what you are talking about will help you out 100%, Question your dental office if the billing does not look right have them explain why they are charging you for every line item if you have to. It sounds like they are totally messed up over there. Make sure you understand what they are charging you for so that you can address that with your insurance company. It is sad that you have to get in the middle of this mess but if you just go with the flow you are the one that is losing out.

I dont have dental insurance &?

my wisdom tooth is hurting bad. it has my ear, throat & whole left side of mouth hurting. Does anyone know whr i can go that has payment plans around Hagerstown, MD or Chambersburg, PA area?? I was told I should skip the regular dentist & go straight to Oral Surgeon Place to save money. But ive calld some places & no one has payment plans. Id really just like to get the tooth pulld cuz it's given me nothing but trouble since it came thru. Anyone have any suggestions please??
--------------------
Try going to www.carecredit.com you can search for dentists in your area who take carecredit, and if there are some then apply for the card, its basically a card for dental and other medical work. That way you can pay the card off and not worry about paying the dentist off since alot of dentist don't do payment plans.

Tooth stings??? - no dental insurance - what are my options?

It stings when I make a sucking motion....like to gather my saliva before i swallow type thing.... it feels like a big sliver....very stingy.....but I don't think it's a sliver cuz I looked....and the pain is also under my tooth it's such a sharp pain....not like a normal cavity. I can't afford to go pay some dentist hundreds of dollars....I've been so sick lately and missed work I'm only getting 300 on my next cheque and i need to pay bills what do i do??? and what could be the problem? It's the bottom left molar closest to the front....it's also a baby....I'm 21 yrs old....but Iwon't get an adult tooth there. They pulled the same tooth on the other side.

UNTIL YOU SEE A DENTIST START BRUSHING WITH A TOOTHPASTE MADE FOR SENSITIVE TEETH. TAKE SOME IBUPROFEN WHEN THE PAIN GETS BAD. BRUSH GENTLY WITH A SOFT TOOTHBRUSH.

If I have dental insurance under both my wife's and my own employer, is it possible for me to use both?

I have to have a few cavities filled and in addition, I need at least 2 crowns. I know I have a max per calender year, but what I'm wondering is if both plans have a deductible, and both pay 50% towards a crown, once I meet both plan deductibles...will the cost of the crowns cancel each other out...meaning both plan's will pay their respective 50%? I know I must find a provider that is in network for both plans as well...can anyone provide some advice?
--------------------
You can use one in conjunction with the other. If your wife's is a better plan then whatever your plan doesn't pay her's will pickup to their max. If yours pays 50% and hers pays 50% her's will not pay anymore on the crown. Where it will come in handy is once you reach your max for the year hers should continue to cover up to their max. Here's an example: You need two crowns. Say they cost $1,200.00 each. Your max is $1,100.00. Your's pays $600.00 for the first and $500.00 for the second (you've reached the yearly max). Her's will pay $100.00 for the second crown. If you need a cleaning or cavity later in the year her's will pay for that up to that max. This is how it worked for me. I have Aetna and Metlife as secondary. You might want to check with the provider or have the dentist do a pre-determination before starting work to be sure.

Does anyone out there have a dental discount plan/card. Are they worth it?

I work for a small company that does not offer dental insurance. I have a terrible toothache and one of my wisdom teeth looks grey.
--------------------
If you go with an internet/home-based discount dental plan, please be extremely careful. There are all kinds of ways this can go wrong. Recently, some of the Detla Dental plans have offered a discount plan called "Patient Direct." Since this is a well-established insurance company, their discount plan would be a more secure option than Ameriplan, or any of the other multi-level marketing plans. Do a search for "Delta Dental" and "Patient Direct" and it should come up.

Dental Plans vs. Insurance?

Up through my early 20's, I was on my father's state insurance (Aetna), and received amazing dental care. They were always thorough, caring, friendly, and did great work. You really can tell when they're putting in that extra amount of care, to get something just right. Once off his insurance, I bought a dental plan from dentalplans .com, and, despite switching dentists 3 times, received shoddy, uncaring work from ALL 3 (one Afghani, one from China, and one from India. Coincidence? I'm just saying.) They all seemed to be overloaded with patients, I felt like just a number, and the work done was not of high quality. Are dental plans only honored by crappy dentists? What's the reality about this? If you Google this topic, you can tell that most of the "reviews" are clearly written in favor of the dental plans. Is this nothing more than a massive marketing campaign for a low level product that caters to dentists trained in a foreign country or something? This couldn't be further from any sort of racist thing, I'm just going by my experiences and that's what it seems like. I don't care if my dentist is from the 5th circle of Hell! I just want a good one, who cares enough to do GREAT work. And now I need to go again, so I'd like to find out what the low down is, from people in the industry. Thanks, dentists?
--------------------
Dentist who are willing to accept dental plans as a forum of payment are, dare I say, despert for payment of any kind. With insurance plans, they'd usually get some cash and the rest of the payments later. With dental plans - they never know if they will be paid or not. If I were you, I'd invest in a cheap, basic dental package with a widely accepted pay base.

How much does it cost for a dental retainer in the US? (without insurance)?

I had braces back in 1999 (when I was in high school) and I think because I didn't always put on the retainer, my teeth started to fall back to the same patterns (nothing serious but it annoys me when I look in the mirror). Now I am in school in the US and would like to get one retainer (until I go back to my country and talk to my dentist). I've heard that the dentist cost here is expensive. ( I don't think my health insurance covers dental expenses). So, anyone can share me the expense ? Oh, can I get invisalign as the retainer also ? and how much ?
--------------------
It depends on where you are and type of retainer. The simplest retainer that I make (vacuum-form), in my office costs about $100 (but you'd have to add on the cost of an exam, since we can't treat without an exam and diagnosis, about another $75) That's the San Francisco area
