Does dental insurance pay for braces?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia

Most insurance companies will cover some of the cost, up to age 18 (like if you're on your parent's plan). After age 18, you are usually on your own. I think they assume that if you're over age 18, you are choosing to do it for cosmetic reasons (b/c it wasn't done when you were younger). In fact, even the coverage before age 18 doesn't cover that much of the cost. My hubs works for a very large insurance company, and our dental coverage covers up to $1000 yearly, for up to 3 years, if you're under 18. After that, it's not covered (straight out of pocket). Call the member services number on your health care id card, and they will give you your plan's specific coverages. Good luck.
