Can someone who knows about dental insurance for someone who is self employed please answer some questions?

My husband is self employed. We have no insurance. I need a root canal. Is it possible to get insurance real fast and have the insurance pay for it? Is there a certain type of insurance for self employed people? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Root canals are not considered a preexisting condition on most plans. So if you could enroll now, on most plans it would be covered. I wouldn't think that you would be able to find an insurance company & enroll quick enough though. First I'd start by seeing somebody for an antibiotic. A lot of insurance companies offer plans for self employed people through a small business unit. You usually have to have at least 2 employees though. Some even have individual plans. You could also check with your state insurance commission or insurance brokers. To try & find an insurance company that works for you I would google "dental insurance companies" & call every company that is listed on at least the first page of the search. Ask for individual polices & if they don't have them, then ask if they have a small business unit. Good luck!
