Is dental insurance covered under the Canadian Health Plan?

Medical coverage is free in Canada but what about dental work? Is that covered also?
--------------------
No unfortunately not. Medical insurance is provincially mandated not federally mandated. So the rules may be different between provinces. But in my province dental bills are not covered. I am unsure as to whether or not you get a tax break if you submit your dental bills as a medical expense. Companies in Canada offer dental plans to their employees as part of a taxable benefit. I have a dental plan and my husband has dental plan which usually covers 100% of our expenses. In the rare cases that there is no coverage we pay hundred percent of the bill. And to correct the misconception that our American neighbours have concerning free healthcare, it is definitely not free. We pay for it via our taxes. It's just that everybody is entitled to medical coverage. It's not up to the individual insurance companies to decide whether or not they will decide to cover us. Everybody is covered.
