Is dental insurance a good option?

I am a college student, I work part time and have no medical insurance at all. I would love to go the dentist but with the current prices I can't even think about it. I've heard about dental insurance, but I have no idea what's the best one out there. I need a root canal and regular cleanings so it has to be something that can cover that or at least a good portion of that. Are you guys familiar with dental insu do you know any good options?
