My boyfriend has dental pain stemming from the nerves in his gums. We have tried anbesol, clove oil, salt water rinse, we took him to the dentist and got antibiotics and pain medication, dentist says he needs a root canal but we cannot afford a root canal and we don't have dental insurance. Does anyone know anything else that will hold the pain off (that we can buy over the counter) till we can get the money for his dental work?

this is going to sound silly but rinse your mouth with vodka. it will burn for a minute but it will work for days afterward. you dont drink the vodka so you can buy the cheap stuff. a half pint bottle will last for months. my husband had the same problem and was amazed that this really worked. he was skeptical as he is a non drinker. you may also want to check with your local health department they will tell you where you can get dental work done based on your income.
