Should we get Dental Insurance?

HI all.My wife needs extensive dental work. Should we get dental insurance? Ive heard both good and bad about dental insurance and not sure what we should do. Thanks for any tips.

Usually if you get dental insurance on your own, you must really need it because you know the amount of coverage and price of the monthly premium and you figured that you'll still come out ahead even with what you have to pay out. Insurance companies know that and they will charge a lot and put a lot of exclusions and limitations on dental work to make sure they make money off of you (remember, insurance companies are not charitable organizations). Getting dental insurance through a workplace may be cheaper than getting it on your own. That's because all the employees get dental insurance and insurance companies make money off of those employees who don't use their insurance. As a result, insurance companies can offer lower premiums to the employer. Insurance companies might offer a plan that requires dentists give discounts to their policy holders. The insurance companies don't lose any money because the dentists are the one giving the break for the referral in return.
