is there any way, other than you telling them, that one dental insurance company can find out about the other? is the dentist office allowed to disclose that information?

When they submit the bill to the primary insurance they will then submit to the other and it will show what the primary insurance paid. That's how they find out. EDIT: Then what's the purpose of having a secondary insurance then. Because if you plan on submitting to the secondary insurance yourself, they won't pay until they know how much was paid by the primary insurance.
