What does the average American make of the British NHS?

Health care is paid from taxes at roughly £1,980(roughly $3000) per person per year (this doesn't include taxes paid by businesses so actually contribution is lower). Some people chose private health insurance with BUPA being the most popular and some jobs will provide private health care as a bonus. All health care is free apart from prescriptions for adults, dental work for adults & optical work for adults. Would you like to see this sort of system? Do you think it's fair? How similar is this to Obama's healthcare plan?

I was treated at St. Thomas hospital in London. It sucked. Their equipment was broken and didn't have any back ups. And it was dirty. I wouldn't have taken a dog to be treated there. It's not similar at all to Obama's system. Obamacare is insurance, not care. Doctors can choose whether or not to see you depending on your insurance. If the reimbursement rates suck, you can't get care unless you go to an ER or a clinic. It's a false sense of security that you'll be provided with a doctor.
