Why would my gums be swollen. Mouth healthy otherwise?

I think i have something stuck in there like a seed for about 2 weeks. it hurts to eat on that side. my gums are really swollen. if i left it would it go away eventually. would it make my tooth fall out. i dont have dental insurance. would a water pick help
