TMJ & Night Mouth Guards- OTC?

I have tmj and it's pretty severe. (it gets really bad whenever i'm pregnant and im currently pregnant with my 3rd). ANyways I don't have dental insurance and I checked into getting a night guard for at home from walgreens or CVS.. but on all of the packages they all have warnings that say if you have TMJ don't use them? Why? Everyone keeps recommending I get one---

You need the mouth guard specifically fitted for your mouth and your specific needs. This might shift your jaw into a position that will make it worse... I had/have TMJ, so I know what you are going through...it sucks....I would get an estimate from a specialist on what it would cost for appts. and such...see if that do a payment plan, which I think they do, mine did.
