Keeping in mind that I understand that dentists may charge different things, I'm just trying to see how much I'd have to pay if I didn't opt for dental insurance. I usually go for a dental check up every 6 months.

It probably depends on where you live. Generally, the prices where I live are $60-$80 for a cleaning. You should probably call dentists in your area and get price comparisons.
