What does it mean when a severe toothache stops?

Ok, I had no dental insurance and an EXCRUCIATING, MIND-NUMBING, ALL_CONSUMING toothache for about a month and a half. Then, gradually over about a week, it stopped. Why is this? Is the nerve dead? Could there be an abscess? Will I need to get it removed? AHHHHH! Help! :! ?! Mozmuse
