What does this mean?

My filling fell out of my tooth and I was looking at my dental insurance policy and it says Amalgam one surface, two surface, three surface and so on what does the surface mean? does one surface mean one tooth and two surfaces mean two teeth? I'm confused. Does anyone know?
--------------------
The surface referred to is the surface of the tooth that needs repair. There are four sides and the top. Some fillings repair more than one surface. The larger ones would be repairing three surfaces and the smaller ones just one surface.
