Is it considered cosmetic surgery if I get my front teeth properly aligned?

I don't have dental insurance and my front teeth are fairly crooked. Does anyone know if a dentist will consider it cosmetic surgery and charge me an arm and a leg?
--------------------
yes it is cosmetic UNLESS it interferes with eating, jaw alignment (TMJ) or another medical issue. Most all insurance companies consider it cosmetic if done for appearance, only.

How likely is gum disease at seventeen?

I brush my teeth twice a day but I have tartar build up because I haven't had dental insurance since I was fourteen. My gums are a little swollen right now and will randomly start bleeding when I brush them.
--------------------
You have gingivitis. Do you floss besides brush? You really need to have a professional cleaning to remove the tartar under your gums. Even if you don't have insurance it will only get worse and much more expensive.

How to get started with braces?

I'm a college student who just recently got dental insurance, and I need braces. What steps would I have to go through to get them. Should I contact the orthodontist first, or go to a random dentist or what? Thanks in advance!
--------------------
That depends on your insurance. So first check with your insurance to see if you need to be referred to an orthodontist by a regular dentist first. If yes, you will need to find a good dentist in your area, ask your friends and family for a good one. If you don't need a referral, then again, ask around to friends and family to find a good orthodontist. Good Luck

Some dental advise please?

A corner has chipped off of one of my front teeth. I've recently lost my dental insurance and am on a tight budget. I'm trying to research and see what might be able to be done, and what the average cost may be. Any advise or resources where I could look? Thanks.
--------------------
I had a similar problem happen about a year ago. My dentist had a technician fill the chip with a resin that has held up ever since. It took less than 5 minutes and looks totally natural. It cost $100. Your dentist might let you go on a payment plan if you ask.

Is there any financial aid available for someone without insurance, who is self-employed?

My brother is 23, newly married, baby on the way, just started his own business, and his wisdom teeth are growing in. He is in a lot of pain, but has neither the insurance to cover it, or the money to pay for the extractions. Do you know of any dental aid for people in his situation?
